South Korea Officials Say North Korea Has Fired Its Long-Range Rocket

SEOUL, South Korea (AP) — North Korea fired a long-range rocket Wednesday in its second launch under its new leader, South Korean officials said, defying warnings from the U.N. and Washington only days before South Korean presidential elections.
South Korean defense officials said the rocket was fired from a west coast launch pad but there was no immediate word if the rocket was successful. North Korea had indicated technical problems with the rocket and extended its launch window. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity, citing office rules.
North Korea’s Kim Jong Un took power after his father Kim Jong Il died on Dec. 17 last year, and the launch also comes about a month before President Barack Obama is inaugurated for his second term.
The North says the Unha rocket is meant to put a satellite in orbit. A similar launch in April broke apart shortly after liftoff, and the condemnation that attempt received is likely to be repeated. Washington sees the launch as a cover for a test of technology for missiles that could be used to strike the United States.

FILE – In this Sunday, April 15, 2012 file photo, a North Korean vehicle carrying a missile passes by during a mass military parade in Pyongyang’s Kim Il Sung Square to celebrate the centenary of the birth of late North Korean founder Kim Il Sung. Analysts sifting through information on North Korea’s failed rocket launch say it suggests Pyongyang has learned little about spaceflight since its last flubbed attempt three years ago, and that it’s a long way from being able to threaten the United States with a long-range missile. (Credit: AP)
Rocket tests are seen as crucial to advancing North Korea’s nuclear weapons ambitions. North Korea is thought to have only a handful of rudimentary nuclear bombs. But Pyongyang is not yet believed capable of building warheads small enough to mount on a missile that could threaten the United States.
North Korea has spent decades trying to perfect a multistage, long-range rocket. Experts say that ballistic missiles and rockets in satellite launches share similar bodies, engines and other technology. This is the fifth attempt at a long-range launch since 1998, when Pyongyang sent a rocket hurtling over Japan. Previous launches of three-stage rockets weren’t considered successful.
Washington sees North Korea’s pursuit of nuclear weapons and ballistic missiles as a threat to world security and to its Asian allies, Japan and South Korea.
North Korea under new leader Kim has pledged to bolster its nuclear arsenal unless Washington scraps what Pyongyang calls a hostile policy.

Posted on December 12, 2012 at 10:44amThe successful launch of a North Korean 3 stage rocket is nothing to take lightly. The probability of an crippling EMP attack against mainland North America and or or it’s allies; are greatly increased.
North Korea has a long relationship with Iran. Ostensibly, if North Korea has a viable delivery platform, so does Iran.
As disclosed in a March 2012 blaze interview with Gen. Boykin, http://www.theblaze.com/stories/general-boykin-to-beck-i-believe-iran-has-a-nuclear-warhead-now/ Iran may indeed already have atomic weapons. However, without evidence of a actual Iranian test; the viability of any arms they may have produced to date is still highly speculative. Conversely, North Korea has successfully tested it’s warhead design and proven they are functional, and now they have a delivery system as well.
If North Korea and Iran were to share designs and one player had successful test results, the other wouldn’t as a necessity, have to conduct similar tests as they have already done so by proxy.
After 25 years of joint efforts and partnerships pursuing nuclear weapons, any “If “is best viewed through the lens of the affirmative.

Posted on December 12, 2012 at 12:17amA prophecy, December 4, 1987: “We also said to you, the threat of nuclear war is still before you − the reality, and the greater possibility, for there are those who think that the Eagle and the Bear have grown weak and weary. As they have already taken advantage of both, they shall continue to take advantage. They shall bring distrust where there should be none.
We say unto you these things. But we also say unto you the greatest of all things, the fulfillment that you have celebrated for so long, the birth of the Messiah. Within the joy of all things and all times, is the greatest joy of walking with one’s God, walking with the Father of us all − He who cares, He who loves, He who is the giver of all. For in the awesome twilight for all disaster the Lord shall spread His mercy upon the land. For those things we can tell you of, only of those things we know. Yet we know not fully the full plan of the Lord….
“We say unto you, combine your thoughts, your minds, and your strength, and your energies. Tune yourselves as though you were fine machines, and put your faith in the Lord, thy God, [that] He is with you. Let the glory of the Lord reach out to you.” http://www.angelfire.com/in4/aup_messiah/1987December04.audio.html

Posted on December 11, 2012 at 11:47pmLook, I’m about as anti-war as a person could be. Still, there is going to come a day where we would see it beneficial to cripple the nuclear ambitions of North Korea and Iran, and act on it appropriately. I think it’s best to take action now. When we know what’s in store if these apocalyptic regimes grab hold of apocalyptic weaponry, why wait? These regimes seek death, so why not give it to them and limit casualties as best we can. The people of North Korea deserve freedom. They are slaves kept quiet under pain of death, starvation and torture. They are the Nazis of our time and yet we do nothing. So much for the “global force for good.” The US is nothing but a stooge for Israel, these days.

Posted on December 11, 2012 at 10:48pmYES! Update to the story is the test was a complete success resulting in putting a satellite into orbit. I can’t believe we didn’t take the oppurtunity to test our own rocket and shoot it down! When they complained about it we could of just said we have the right to test ours just like you.

Posted on December 11, 2012 at 10:19pmHere’s an update to the story: N. Korea’s rocket apparently was a success as all three stages functioned properly but are unable to confirm if it reached orbit or not according to Fox News. I understand letting it proceed to see how far along they are with rocket technology but I don’t understand why we didn’t shoot it down afterwords! I guess I expect to much of O’Bolshevik!

Posted on December 11, 2012 at 10:29pmSo it looks like they got one to finally work right; I know Japan was prepared to shoot it down if it encroached upon its territory.
Look for one or two more test launches to see if they can reach orbit; and once two succeed, then its only the portion of mounting a nuclear warhead upon it for the level of terror to upscale substantially.
