Michigan, a traditional stronghold for organized labor, is currently engaged in an all-out struggle to become the Rust Belt’s second right-to-work state — and some people aren’t taking it very well.
“We are about to undue 100 years of [labor progress],” said Rep. Douglas Geiss (D-Mich.) on Tuesday. “And there will be blood.”
“We will relive the Battle of the Overpass,” he added, referring to a violent 1937 incident involving union workers and Ford Motor Company security guards.
Needless to say, Rep. Geiss’ choice of words has raised a few eyebrows. And considering the fact that President Obama on Monday threw himself headlong into Michigan’s right-to-work struggle, a few reporters felt it was necessary to get the White House’s take on the Michigan lawmaker’s “blood” vow.
“The president believes in debate that’s civil,” said White House Press Secretary Jay Carney during Tuesday’s press briefing. “I haven’t seen those comments and I’m not sure that they mean what some would interpret them to mean. I just haven’t seen them.”
Meanwhile, back in Michigan, a mob of alleged union protesters attacked a tent owned by Americans for Prosperity, a group that supports the right-to-work legislation.
[Warning: Coarse language]:
“They had knives,” AFP’s Annie Patnaude told The Washington Examiner. “They cut all of the ties (holding the tent up) and then they started slashing the tent itself … I remember them saying, ‘We’re going to destroy these people.’”
Activists also attacked a conservative commenter. You can see that video and our interview with the person who was punched here.
As TheBlaze reported yesterday, President Obama warned UAW employees on Monday that right-to-work legislation would threaten their ability to make a decent wage.
“What we shouldn’t be doing is trying to take away your rights to bargain for better wages,” the president told an enthralled audience in Redford, Mich. “These so-called right-to-work laws, they don’t have anything to do with economics, they have to do with politics.”
“What they’re really talking about is to give you the right to work for less money,” he added.
However, as we also mentioned yesterday on TheBlaze, right-to-work laws have nothing to do with so-called “collective bargaining rights.” It is unclear why President Obama would suggest that right-to-work laws infringe on a union’s ability to engage in collective bargaining.

Dec. 11, 2012 at 7:10pmThe labor guys will not want to “have any skin in the Game”. The non-Union people in this Country are all suffering, and the Union guys are making back room deals with the Administration to save their own butts. They fail to realize that this system is unsustainable, and they will end up in the same position as the Unions in Greece, throwing tantrums in the streets when they find out they have been lied to, and their Banks are empty. They are being played as patsies just as the Wall Street protestors are, and they are not intelligent enough to realize the reality of their situation. Unfortunately, they will resort to violence, and that is what is meant by “Blood in the streets”. It is not a metaphor. Just watch videos of Greece to see what the Unions resort to.

Dec. 12, 2012 at 7:29amPeople seem to forget that Sweet Old Barack was a community organizer before he ran for office. His job was to encourage strikes, demonstrations and even riots to accomplish whatever they wanted to achieve. He would never have been elected or reelected without the union support and union leaders are the most frequent visitors to the White House.
Sweet Old Barack will ignore the violence and if questioned by a reported with some cajones he will stall and avoid answering.

Dec. 11, 2012 at 10:06pmUnion workers saved America. Yep, as proof, men caught using drugs and alcohol are arbitrated back to work because of the Unions. (Did you buy an American car put together by a man/woman/transgender person under the influence?)
A Detroit union EMS worker who refused to dispatch the police bec she believed a child caller reporting his mother’s seizure was pranking. A union official blamed the city for supplying poor quality telecommunication equipment in her defense and when a tape of the call was released to the public in which the 911 operator and the child were clearly heard to be arguing over whether the call should be taken seriously, the same union official defending her said the call had been enhanced.
And on and on it goes…
Ya know, over time there are a lot of hard working Americans who have been helped by unions. Yup, they did a lot of good, but like the killer of the golden goose, they need to reminded that getting “more” hurts us all.
Distrupting the peace, yelling, stopping others from expressing their views, taking time off at full pay, closing down schools, yeah, this is something to be proud about.
I wonder how many of those in attendance will stop paying dues once this is done? If unions are so great, why do they need to have employers and governmental units withhold dues? If unions are so great, why do their numbers continue to fall except in the gov’t sector where they fund the candidates who slather other people’s money on unio

Dec. 11, 2012 at 5:09pmYes Benghazi Jay, he meant exactly what he said.
Most likely, Congress will make it illegal for States to be, “Right to work”. They need the Unions to continue ensuring the U.S. of A is not exceptional and not competitive against places like China and Sudan. They need the Unions to continue doing what they do best, putting business out of business.
Unfortunately, Progressives are inherently violent. I do believe they vowed after Wisconsin, if this ever happens again, they will ensure people are hurt. Kind of like Morsi showing off and touting his torture chambers in Egypt. Let the people know you are willing to be ruthless and people will back down.

Dec. 11, 2012 at 5:07pmObviously Obama knew he was talking to useful idiots. I can negotiate with whoever will negotiate with me, of course a liberal would think that I have a right to make whoever negotiate. I know, the government extended a right to collectively bargain back in … 1930′s? for private companies.
Right to Work means I can’t be REQUIRED to join the union to work for a company. I have encountered some liberals who think that it means I can’t be fired without just reason… wrong.
This is what conservatives do when they lose a political battle just look at all the rioting in the streets when Obama won the election … yeah, I missed that too. Par for the progressives/socialists/commies, they agree with Mao, you know the at the end of a gun quote!

Dec. 11, 2012 at 5:03pmIt means what it means – a call for violence and use of force to harm and maybe even kill anyone who is in the unions ways. Obama supports the unions and instead of using this to defuse the situation, such a statement as this only heightens the flames that are building.
Hopefully nothing bad will occur, but I have my doubts, for one stupid move by a union thug and all hades will break loose. Obama will probably come down on the side of the unions in such a case.
