Chavez-Loving Harry Belafonte’s Advice to Obama About GOP: ‘Work Like a Third World Dictator and Put All These People in Jail’

Harry Belafonte, known most prominently for being the “King of Calypso,” and for producing such well-known songs as “Day O” and “Every Little Thing Is Gonna Be Alright,” has a long track record of credibility-straining, Left-wing activism. He’s especially notable for his outsized admiration of Venezuelan dictator Hugo Chavez, who Belafonte commended in 2006 for taking on the “greatest terrorist in the world,” namely former President George W. Bush.

And apparently, Belafonte thinks his other Left-leaning idol, current President Barack Obama, could stand to learn a few things from Chavez’s example (or someone like him). Speaking on Al Sharpton’s show on MSNBC this week, Belafonte made a strange suggestion about where Obama might want to go with his Presidential powers.

“What fascinates me is that in the face of millions of Americans expressing their desire, the whole political establishment defining its game, that there should be this lingering infestation of really corrupt people, who’re still trying to dismantle the wishes of the people, the mandate that has been given to Barack Obama, and I don’t know what more they want. The only thing left for Barack Obama to do is to work like a third world dictator and put all these people in jail. They’re violating the American desire!” Belafonte said.

Granted, the tone Belafonte took during the final section implied that the comment might have been a joke, but with a supporter of actual third world dictators, one never knows. In any case, it is less than clear what Belafonte means by the “American desire,” though his “infestation of really corrupt people” seems an obvious reference to the “right wing” Sharpton mentions when setting up the response.

  Harry lives in wealth and luxury from the money gained from the individual citizens of this country, and has for decades. He has been loved by millions for as long as I can remember. His reward to us is to repay our good with evil, to work for the destruction of the nation which allowed him his fame and wealth. The Word clearly spells out the future for people like harry and I for one am glad. How dare harry live in wealth and luxury while joining forces with the enemies of freedom and prosperity.   I agree, but I’m thinking we’ll go into civil war first, maybe into the community organizer’s eighth year as do millions of people. And, from the way the situation is developing now, it will first begin as riots in the streets, then ethnic clashes, then armed political/ethnic fighting……. which will devolve into civil war.
  
  At that time, it pretty much looks like there will be demands for secession in many parts of the country, and the government itself will break along lines of politics and ethnicity to the point where they will be so weakened from mass defections into various groups they will be literally overwhelmed and will have no alternative but to allow secessions without challenge.
  
  I hope I’m wrong and a miracle occurs that will bring us back to prosperity and stability, but the situation just keeps getting worse and worse and has reached the point where there is open, undisguised hatred for America and the people who built the country.

  One mans revolution is the governments insurrection. And they have tools to deal with that. No, I’m afraid the revolution will not be televised. Any insurrection will be put down easily. They have so many tools to deal with such a situation. Media propaganda, a military and don’t mistakenly think the military would automatically be with the people.
  
  This must be dealt with in a different way. The machine has to be broken and that will not be easy.
