While the goal of elections is to come to a conclusion and establish a mandate, American politics and government seems divided as ever at this year’s close. In Washington, Republicans and Democrats appear at a stand still on taxes, debt and the Fiscal Cliff, and in Michigan this week we’ve seen the wheels in motion again for major protests from big labor– like Wisconsin last year–as the Republican-controlled legislature and governor have pushed through “right-to-work” laws. This past November Michiganders opposed a proposition by 18 points that would have made public and private sector union collective bargaining rights an amendment to the state constitution. As Republicans have now passed and signed right-to-work laws that no longer force workers to pay union dues or lose their job, Michigan Democrats say “there will be blood” and big labor says expect “civil war.”
Deep political polarization and divide amongst Americans looks to be repeating itself in Obama term two, like term one. On ‘Real News’ Wednesday the panel was joined by Glenn Beck to discuss how we can find common ground on issues and avoid further political animosity.

Dec. 13, 2012 at 10:13amYour assertion and premise is without factual support and incorrect. Wages and employee benefits are lower in RTW states. Let’s not fall into the Rick Perry fantasy world where minimum wage jobs are considered a victory towards reducing the unemployment rate. The mistake was in trade agreements which does not establish a reasonable minimum wage, employee benefits and working conditions in developing countries. The economy of the developing country and economies of the world would all do better if the slave labor ($1-2 dollars per hour) were paid enough money to actually buy things and thus increase overall demand.

Dec. 13, 2012 at 8:48amSome how I don’t see a “deep divide among Americans” when 17% are radical union members making all the noise they can like a two year old. That means 83% of Americans mind their own business and go on with life and actually do their jobs.

That’s why he killed the pipeline.
If they were out there working he would have no one to protest.
Thousands of union and non union jobs would
exist. And there would be no one there to push his idiotic agenda On the unions part stupid followers, and irresponsible.

Dec. 13, 2012 at 7:21amStrip away all of the workers rights B.S. and unionism is quite simply socialism in it’s early phase. When socialism arrives (and it seems likely it will) unions will be disbanded as they will be deemed unnecessary. This false sense of power they feel will become numbness because emotions are counter productive in a socialist utopia.

Dec. 13, 2012 at 7:12ami can see the dilemma, States who have become Communist States are in constant battle for power against its people and workers.
Unions were not set up to fight Capitalism…….they fight for whoever gives them he most stuff….Which Communist States love and need…..and why Union Heads use the dues to keep the fight going…..
Unions have BECOME like Communist regimes ONLY because they are constantly fighting those same regimes…..in each State Assembly. Because Government always wants votes, they give Unions things the State cannot afford or pay for OR ONLY through raising “revenues” hence stealing through taxation.
GOVERNMENT caused these problems…..NOT the Unions!

Dec. 13, 2012 at 5:04amWanna-be-racketeers unions only want total control, and couldn’t care less about anything or anyone else. Decent people do not want to be placed in such a stranglehold and will resist. Those union characters remind me of those lowly types who watch re-runs of ‘The Godfather’—then put on their polyester suits and fake diamond rings to play ‘pretend’ in front of their neighbors.

Dec. 13, 2012 at 4:54am“Divide”? To hell with that they are the enemy plain, and simple. I’m waiting for Obamacare to kick in for the revolution to start. I say revolution because at that point all the people with the money, guns, cars, and real power will have finally had enough. You know damn well these welfare junkies don’t go anywhere unless the union buses them there. Also we get up in the am, they are more like late afternoon. So Obama I hope that civilian army of yours is coming along because ours sure as hell is.

Dec. 13, 2012 at 3:36amIf people would only wake up, all this is a Trajan Horse for what the commie in chief is doing while keeping our nation distracted by evil. His little announcement today Al Qaeda and the Taliban are our friends now shows where his allegiances are and we as a nation are being thrown under the bus and ripe for a muslim take over. I cannot believe the American people are really accepting this bull s h ! t and not speaking out more. I can’t believe our corrupt politicians are sitting on their fat greedy but and not speaking out. This just shows how much they are bought and paid for. Florida just hit the 1 Million canceled permit , permits. If everything is so good, why are so many people wanting guns to carry, probably the same reason I have a permit and why I pack.

Dec. 13, 2012 at 1:41amKeatonc33: Did you read the story? It clearly says that Michigan Democrats stated: there will be blood. And big labor is calling for civil war. So why are you jumping on ScaryDave for joining a militia? Seems to me he’s preparing to defend himself. Whose the idiot?
It amazes me that people don’t understand the concept of right to work states. Unions force people who are not union members to pay dues because unions claim that they set the table for pay scales and working conditions for all workers. Bull#%^t! IF I told everyone in Michigan that they had to pay dues to a church organization even if they didn’t belong to the church or are even religious, there would be anarchy in the streets. The beloved ACLU would be there in a heartbeat filing a suit. But because it’s a union, it’s OK? Oh please. That is a prime example of political pandering for votes.

Dec. 13, 2012 at 6:41amI see the usual trolls are rolling out the usual boring Alinsky tactics of accusing your opponents of exactly what you are or are planning on doing.
In this case, when labor unions and Demicrats publicly call for “civil war” and “blood”, any reaction is seized upon as “violent” or “advocating violence”.
Pure twaddle.
But, then again, Liberalism/Progressivism is pure twaddle to begin with, so more inane twaddle spilling forth from their mouths should not be of any surprise to anyone. They won’t do squat but run their mouths in any case. They’re the real-life equivalent of the internet tough-guy. They know they’re outnumbered at least 20-to-1, and most of _US_ are armed! It would be the shortest “civil war” in history!
