Kuwait Passes Law to Execute Those Who Slander Islam and the Prophet

Kuwait Passes Law to Execute Those Who Slander Islam and the ProphetOn Thursday, TheBlaze brought you the story of Alber Saber, an Egyptian Christian sentenced to three years in prison for producing a video critical of organized religion. Since Hosni Mubarak’s ouster and with the rise of the hard-line Muslim Brotherhood regime, Egypt has steadily increased its crackdown on those who slander Islam.

Following suit is Kuwait, where members of parliament just this week approved a law issuing the death penalty for Muslims who curse or slander God, the Quran, all of the prophets, and in particular the Prophet Mohammed and his many wives.

Non-Muslims who engage in these verboten acts may not meet the gallows, but they will be remitted to prison for no less than 10 years, according to the bill.

The National Secular Society (NSS) reports that defendants who repent in court are meant to be spared suffering capital punishment but will still serve five years in prison, incur a fine of $36,000, or both. Repeat offenders, according to the bill, will not be given any lenience but handed down the harshest sentence.

“We do not want to execute people with opinions or thought because Islam respects these people… But we need this legislation because incidents of cursing God have increased. We need to deter them,” Kuwaiti MP Ali al-Deqbasi said.

According to NSS, in March authorities arrested a Shiite man for allegedly slandering the Prophet Mohammed among others in a message posted on Twitter. He is still be detained pending trial later this month.

Shiites in the country meanwhile, think the bill doesn’t go far enough and insisted that capital punishment be extended to those who also condemn 12 highly regarded Shiite imams. The only marginally less hardline Sunnis, however, dominate parliament and rejected the opposing sect’s demands.

Interestingly, one Shiite MP, Abdulhameed Dashti, opposes the bill on the grounds said the bill, claiming its provisions go against the teachings of Islam.

“Why are we trying to show Islam as a religion of death and blood when it is actually the opposite of that,” he asked.

NSS reports that the bill is expected to go into effect in one month’s time, after it goes through an official approval process.

None of the above, however, should come as a shock. Immediately following the anniversary of September 11, American embassies and diplomatic outposts in Egypt and Libya came under vicious attack. The alleged catalyst was a low-budget YouTube video critical of Islam.

While the amateur movie was of course not the real motivation, Islamists have used it to drive home a point: When one slanders Islam, particularly the Prophet Mohammed, there will be a steep price to pay. What’s more, those same Islamists called for the maker of the YouTube video to be prosecuted for inciting violence with his production.

Nothing is a coincidence. Upon investigating the real catalyst for the embassy-sieges, TheBlaze learned that the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) — a 56 (57 if one counts the Palestinians) Islamic member-country organization that sets the standard for the Muslim world — has enacted a ten year plan to ensure that Islamic slander laws are enforced on an international level. While this might sound far-fetched, and indeed it may never come to fruition, Islamists’ goals are very much out in the open.

UN laws, my foot they have NO Right to impose laws on any country, the U.N. has over reached it’s original mandate and is meddling in other countries personal affairs
UN laws only apply to Western Non Muslim countries the Muslim countries only believe in their own laws the shariah laws and want to bring them to bear in ALL countries and the U.N. don’t and won’t do nothing about it.
I think it’s time Westerrn Countries, Christian, and Judeo Christian countries start pushing back and calling for Laws to punish Muslims and others with the same punishment for crimes against God, Jesus, the Holy Spirit and Judeo Christian Profits and forefathers.
What’s good for them should work the other way also, they come to the Western Countries for a better life, but try and tear the countries apart with their push for Shariah laws etc.

OK, I agree that you are The (or A) Jerk, but this is no reason to insult yourself. The old saying “What happens in a Muslim country stays in a Muslim country” seems to have become invalid since the day Islamic terrorism took over the world’s entire Muslim community.

On the other hand, one must admit that Kuwait is right. Since without such laws the entire planet laughs at them, their ideas and their so-called prophet, something had to be done in order to avoid Kuwaitis laughing all the way to the Christian churches on Sundays. Specifically, avoiding the mass conversion of Kuwaitis to Christianity.

From a Muslim point of view, nothing can be worse than Kuwaitis converting to Christianity except, God forbid, seeing them convert to Judaism.

      @Jerk,
You’re right about it not being our business, depending upon what you mean by our business. If you mean we should not be telling them how to run their country…maybe. We can say anything we want to another country. I don’t think we have an obligation to attack them militarily just because we don’t like their traffic laws.

If they begin killing their own citizens who do not comply with the law…messy situation. When they are isolated cases, such as scattered executions it is difficult to say we should do more than complain. People can get out of the country or try to change their government if they’re unhappy.
If wholesale atrocities are committed I think something should be done. I didn’t like the fact we sat out Rwanda when humanitarily most people would agree something should have been done. It wouldn’t even have been for our benefit that it was stopped. Are we obligated? Probably not but I doubt most people would have objected if we had lost a few troops over it.
Looking back over history, there are many cases where intervention would have been for the benefit of everyone. Stopping Hitler from invading pretty much anything would have prevented WWII. He was emboldened by our inaction. Of course Kuwait is not Nazi Germany but I’m only using that as an example to demonstrate how foolish harcore isolationism can be.

Which also leads credence as to why we even helped free Kuwait from the invasion of Saddam Hussein of Iraq in the first Persian Gulf war of 1991. Just like we helped Afghanistan in 1980′s, both appear to have been failures on are part. In other words “A snake may shed it’s skin, but remains a snake”. While I agree Obama’s foreign policy is terrible, is it any different from Bush, Clinton, or Bush Sr.? Romney was the same also. We have a failing foreign policy that is bankrupting us. So many are worried about Israel’s safety yet ignore us supporting countries that hate Israel.

Rand Paul was on the floor of the Senate the other day trying to convince people to no allow us to give Egypt 20 F-16s. He went on to say that he wouldnt be able to get 15 members to support him in trying to stop us from doing it. This is not a Democrat or Republican issue. This is both sides.

Progressives want religion and religious dogma separated from civil law and policy. That’s the opposite of a theocracy, which is what Kuwait currently has. When fundamentalists insist that ‘god’s law’ influence or supercede Constitutional law they are driving us toward theocracy. Don’t like Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Iran and their theocratic legal systems? Better tell the fundamentalist christians to keep it in their church.

You don’t need to be a “Christian” to be moral… but you need to be moral to know the difference between Islam and American values of individual liberty and freedoms….

Islam is the precursor to Marxism, complete Authoritarian state control of all aspects of the Individual… Islam is the borderless State…. THAT is why the Progressives, socialists and Communists have aligned with the Islamists, they are all derivatives of Statism which subvert the individual and reward the elites.

How can you teach “don’t take the name of God in vain”, then kill people in his name? If God was born and raised today as a human and had no idea who these people were, would he ask himself as he grew older if these people were mentally hallucinating?

This is not surprising at all. Islam is evil. Period. The OIC has been trying to institute the world wide ban on insulting their nasty religion and even nastier prophet for a long time now. It will be easier for this to happen now that Obama is in the White House for his 2nd term and is probably there for good. Remember he can be more flexible with his friends now.

No, not surprising, but very scarey. And as OBlamo does more and more to liberate our liberties from us, the folks that elected him won’t squeak until their free stuff is in jeopardy.

Makes me wonder if an assassin of Obama would be considered a villain or a hero….
