Democratic Senator Vows to Reinstate Assault Weapons Ban

The Newtown shooting in Connecticut has prompted an explosive, albeit predictable, reaction from supporters of gun control. With such anti-gun luminaries as New York mayor Michael Bloomberg loudly trumpeting the need for an assault weapons ban, it was just a matter of time before legislation was introduced to push the concept.

That is precisely what California Democrat Dianne Feinstein has just announced her intention to do, telling NBC’s “Meet The Press” that the plans to introduce a new assault weapons ban in the new year, with Democrats in the House prepared to support her with their own version of the bill at the same time. The Huffington Post reports on Feinstein’s stated intentions:

In the wake of Friday’s mass killing at an elementary school in Connecticut, Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) said Sunday that she plans to introduce an assault weapons ban bill on the first day of the new Congress.

“I’m going to introduce in the Senate, and the same bill will be introduced in the House — a bill to ban assault weapons,” Feinstein said on NBC’s “Meet the Press.”[...]

Feinstein called for the ban to be renewed after the mass shooting in an Aurora, Colo., movie theater that killed 12 people and injured 58 others.

“Who needs these military-style assault weapons? Who needs an ammunition feeding device capable of holding 100 rounds?” Feinstein wrote on her campaign website. “These weapons are not for hunting deer — they’re for hunting people.”

On Sunday Feinstein laid out details of the bill.

“It will ban the sale, the transfer, the importation and the possession, not retroactively, but prospectively,” and ban the sale of clips of more than ten bullets, Feinstein said. “The purpose of this bill is to get… weapons of war off the streets.”

Feinstein apparently also believes that President Obama will be prepared to support her in pushing this bill through, as she has said that this will be the president’s bill “to lead on.”

This is not the first time such a bill has been part of a Democratic president’s agenda. President Bill Clinton signed an assault weapons ban into law in 1994, in a politically risky move that many blame for costing his party the House of Representatives that year. That bill, however, expired in 2004, and attempts to revive it have been stymied. Whether Feinstein’s bill will be an exception is an open question, though the Democratic Senator did claim that her version had improved on the original concept by exempting many popular weapons.

  Are you serious. Feinstein and the word patriot in the same sentence? She is not a patriot in any sense. She is an unabashed hater of free people.   This shooting is yet another tragic example of the failed, grotesque insistence on helpless victim zones where any crazed gunman can be assured of a large number of disarmed, undefended, helpless victims, all crammed into one place, where he can kill many children before an armed defender arrives from elsewhere. It is disturbing and sick that the federal government so hates the right of the American people to bear arms, and so hates their natural right to self defense, that the government insists on making them helpless, disarmed victims for anyone who cares to kill them. And in this case, all of the teachers and staff were willfully disarmed by the Federal Government, by force of law and threat of prison, to ensure that they would be disarmed and incapable of saving the lives of the children entrusted to their care.
  
  That makes the Federal Government complicit in the deaths of these children, and in fact an accessory to their mass murder, by forcibly disarming (with the very real threat of prison) all the teachers, all the staff, and any parent who may have been on school property. That stupid law guaranteed the shooters would meet no immediate armed resistance, which is exactly what is needed to stop such an attack.

Why must teachers wait for the Government? Are they slaves? Don’t they have a personal right to defend themselves? You can’t win without ignoring the real issues, and resorting to myths about how if we all were unarmed the world would be all jolly and gay. Mexico prohibits all guns to its citizens.   AR-15 rifles are being used more often by hunters. These rifles are lighter, weather resistant, waterproof, easier to clean, better for customization, replacement parts are cheaper, and serve more than one purpose. Hunting, target shooting, competition, home defense, and homeland security. It’s a multi-purpose, all weather, all terrain, firearm. Only a novice or ignorant liberal wouldn’t know of its useful value. Hey, and they come in many calibers. You can switch the upper for a lighter caliber like for varmint, or switch it to a higher one for deer season. It’s more affordable in the long run. Feinstein doesn’t know jack..

  we should all ask – how the bushmaster found in the car outside is now the weapon used by Adam Lanza in this senseless act. Police reports stated 2 handguns found inside of the school and 1 – bushmaster AR-15 found outside the school located inside the car.

  Some people don’t realize WHY we have a constitution. It is to limit the power of an intrusive government, and the 2nd amendment is our only enforcement mechanism.   Let’s follow this logic….THIS particular incident is what sparked the “dialogue” on banning assault weapons, right? This madman used a Sig Saur and Glock, while leaving the “assault rifle” in the car. Does this idiot realize these are hand guns? Or is it more sinister and they are now going to label hand guns as assault weapons? You realze, a while back, they dropped the RIFLE, and called them assault weapons, right? I think I’ll save my money and buy a hand gun before it’s illegal. I wouldn’t know where to go to illegally get a gun.

  From 2000 – 2011 – over 400,000 people where killed in automobile accidents. I do not see anyone crying about banning automobiles.

  Feinstein is a hypocrit of the highest order. She has a concealed carry permit and has on several occasions stated that she herself carries a handgun for protection after she received death threats. Now she wants to take away everyone else’s rights to protect themselves in the same way she doe She like other dems will and are trying to use the CT shootings to justify their stance on this. One dem I never thought I’d see do it but now has is lifetime NRA member Joe Manchin from WV. I’m just glad to say I didn’t vote for him.
  
  Let’s not forget as well that gun control laws don’t stop mass shootings. One of the worst, if not the worst, mass shootings in history took place recently in Norway, a country where guns are banned.

The real question is what made this disturbed young man into a murderer of children. Where is the outrage at the violent video games he played? A piece of plastic and steel doesn’t have a will Mr. President. Evil is not law abiding, and Adam Lanza stole those guns after failing to buy one legally. it is America’s law abiding gun owners who would have died with Victoria Soto and Dawn Hochsprung defending the children with only our bodies on December 14th, because it was already illegal to bring a gun into that school.   If Senator Feinstein is sincere,about protecting children she will include a FULL ban on ABORTION in her legislation and also ban all “assault weapons” used to carry out abortions. I encourage everyone to call or email her office and insist that she include a ban on Abortion in her legislation intended to protect children.

  Liberalism is mental disorder ~ Dr. MS…Do these fools forget that Columbine took place at the height of the Clinton AW Ban. After 9/11 the US Congress passed regulations to allow pilots to volunteer to carry firearms on aircraft to protect the aircraft from a hi-jacking, now for the question.. did they do this because 19 hijackers killed 3000 Americans or was it because they realized that two aircraft were assigned to attack the pentagon and the US Capital. The fact is if the WTC was not hit first, then the US Capital and Pentagon would have been successful. AND they…the politicians would have been dead. And so the only way to protect themselves was to arm the pilots. They did not do it for the sake of the people killed in the WTC. Politicians thrive on “helping” people and making legislation, it is the reason the Drug War is never going to end and the reason they will not work to have trained teachers and administrators armed in a school. You can’t just have one security guard to protect a school. Most times it will deter, but look at NYC, Detroit, Chicago, they all have security, yet they all have massive violence in their schools. And if did work then the killer will just find another soft target, play grounds, private day cares, stores, sporting events. Cost saving option is to have teachers volunteer and trained to deal with the attack. Police are always minutes away. God Bless those children killed by this fool and those who sacrificed to try to save them.

  The term “assault weapon” is a political construct designed to blur distinction. By definition, and assault weapon is a fully automatic weapon. The last time we had a major incident involving automatic weapons was the North Hollywood bank shootout – in 1997.

  Rep. Ron Paul (R-Texas) has introduced a bill in the House that would allow teachers to carry firearms onto public school grounds. Gun-control groups call it an “extremist” bill.
  
  H.R. 2613, the Citizens Protection Act of 2011, would repeal the Gun-Free School Zones Act of 1990 and remove all federally created criminal safety zones.
  
  The Gun-Free School Zones Act makes it “unlawful for any individual knowingly to possess a firearm at a place that the individual knows, or has reasonable cause to believe, is a school zone.” …….
  
  In a news release, the group argued that the Gun-Free School Zones Act protects criminals, asserting that such attacks as Columbine, Virginia Tech and Fort Hood “all occurred in government facilities where the private possession of firearms was prohibited.”
  
  “It’s time to say NO to criminal safe zones,” the release said. “And a great place to start is the blatantly unconstitutional Gun-free School Zones Act.”

We all knew this was coming back in 2008. It’s sad the way a few abused their 2nd amendment right. That’s all many Americans see. I can’t blame American citizens for wanting them band. They don’t understand that there are millions of them out there not being used in a massacring way. Seems like the few dictate what rules the majority. I hate that these recent events have transpired. I hate to also see the loss of freedoms. Americans use to own Automatic weapons too. Sadly that right was taken away because of the mob. It’s the heart of the American people that needs to change. Not the laws. Laws just give a way to condemn the accused. They do nothing to protect.

Take all the guns away, and you still have not changed the human heart. Only God can do that and only when the human heart lets Him in.

We are trying to explain a theological problem w/science and psychology. This man was not mentally ill, he was no more inherently evil than any of the rest of us. He was demon possessed. I have seen the mentally ill and worked with them for years. I have seen a few souls that were possessed of “unclean spirits.” There is a qualitative difference. Human evil kills its mother. Cosmic evil flattens school house roofs on top of children. Pair up cosmic evil with human evil, this is what you get — mass carnage committed by one or more human agents. It did not take Rwandans long to kill one MILLION of their fellow countrymen. They also did not need guns to do the job. They need machetes and fire.

You cannot out-think cosmic evil. Neither can you legislate cosmic evil out of existence. The best you can hope for it to mitigate its effects. In this case, the sound of police nearing ended w/the demon pointing the gun back on its host.

While you are at it, look this guy up too, Paul Harold Orgeron. Killed fewer but a similar assault. Where there is a will, there is a way.   She doesn’t even know that ASSAULT weapons are FULLY automatic, which I think have been outlawed since the Tommy Gun in the 1930s (an excellent military weapon BEFORE it was used by gangsters). Anything that you pull the trigger once for each shot is semi-automatic (guess maybe a revolver qualifies, as does a 9MM). MAINLY, technology can NEVER be rolled back – so modern guns will NOT disappear.
  The problem needs to be dealt with by countermeasures. See John Lott’s message that Europe (contrary to recent politician’s opinions) has nearly the same amount of such mass murders as we do despite stringent gun laws). He points out that mass murderers CHOOSE GUN-FREE ZONES. e.g. in Colorado, the killer did NOT go to the nearest movie theater to him nor to the largest movie theater (equidistant from the theater he DID go to). He went to the ONLY 1 of 7 theaters that was posted as a GUN-FREE ZONE. Concealed Carry for teachers could help.

This is so stupid…more gun bans will not help, they will only divide the country even more.
The Sandy Hook shooter could not get a gun legally because of the strict gun laws that are already in place, so he killed his mother and took her guns.
I don’t think that it will be possible…not easily at least…for the government to take away our guns. But if they do take our guns, then the only people that will get guns will be criminals like this one.

What the government needs to outlaw and regulate are the violent video games that are available to our kids. These games teach youngsters how to kill and they remove any sense of morals…no remorse for killing people. These video games ingrain a mentality of disassociation in the minds of those that play them. It is not guns that cause the crime, it is the mentality of the shooter.

  We are entering the Communists end game, they move with absolute boldness and do not bother to conceal their real intentions. Too many people know now what is coming, and are afraid or are in denial of that truth, and will not do anything to stop it.
