Police: Indiana Man With 47 Guns Arrested After Threatening to Kill People at Elementary School

CEDAR LAKE, Ind. (TheBlaze/AP) — Authorities say an Indiana man who had 47 guns and ammunition in his home has been arrested after allegedly threatening to kill people at an elementary school near his home.

Cedar Lake police were called to the home of 60-year-old Von I. Meyer early Friday after he allegedly threatened to set his wife on fire. A police statement says Meyer also said he would enter Jane Ball Elementary School, less than 1,000 feet from his home, and “kill as many people as he could before police stop him,” according to the Chicago Tribune.

Authorities found 47 guns and ammunition worth over $100,000.

Prosecutors filed felony intimidation charges against Meyer on Saturday, one day after the massacre at an elementary school in Newtown, Conn. A known member of a motorcycle gang, he is being held without bond.

Cedar Lake is about 45 miles southeast of Chicago.

In CONTROL, Glenn Beck presents a passionate, fact-based case for guns that reveals why gun control isn’t really about controlling guns at all; it’s about controlling us. Find out more HERE.

Hmm how many times is “Chicago” mentioned in a story about an incident in Indiana. And, naturally, the mention of an “elementary school” in the story – as well as a handy dandy shout out and link back to the Connecticut story.

Wondering the background of this alleged gun toting threat to society – might turn out he is a liberal whose bank account just got padded with our tax dollars.

    Discernment is a beautiful thing.

Therein lies your problem. You lack understanding and discernment. You have no ability to engage and accurately process information. You live to over react – all emotion and no reason – and all done out of some vague yet persistent sense of being offended. It’s how young teenagers act.

Sorry, but I don’t take anyone seriously who uses the word “dude”…my point was that people of differing races commit large scale murder all over this country…indeed, the world. Race has nothing to do with it. It is just coincidence. There are virtually no black people who play hockey, most basketball players are black…as are most track runners…most people who bowl are white…on and on…race has nothing to do with it.

My gangbanger comment was, that where in one instance we have many children killed in a matter of minutes by a criminal, in yet another we have thousands killed by gangbangers either killing themselves or recruiting children into their ranks who wind up dead or in prison.

The death of children by intentional criminal activities is all around us, committed by varying races…does 1 set of deaths weigh more than another because of a shorter time frame?

If you want to believe that mass killings in schools is a “white person” crime…go ahead. I respectfully submit, that since time has not ended, at this point it is merely coincidence. Serial killers were thought to be white only as well…tell that to the Green River killer.

There are problems with this report. If the man actually made these statements, he needs to be investigated. Until then “innocent until proven guilty”. The math is funny here. 47 guns worth $100,000? This would be $2128 per weapon average. $2k is a lot to pay for any gun much less an average for 47 of them. I think we will find many more errors in this report.

They are after the guns. I believe that that the Aurora shooter, the mall shooter, and this man in Connecticut have been recruited and given mind control drugs. Look at the eyes. Judge Jeanine showed a later picture of the Ct. Shooter with the same deer in the headlights eyes. An autopsy should be done for drugs. Of course They may be using undetectable drugs. I am not a paranoid person, I am just hearing too much stuff that can be backed up. This massacre was planned and this kid did not do it without help.

I’ve been thinking the same thing. Each shooting took place at a location where people feel safe, by individuals with metal illness. These individuals were also loners, detached from society. Each shooter had body armor or military type clothing, a handgun and AR-15. There is a pattern. Look at Obamas fake emotion. Remember this is the same admin that sent guns to Mexico to change minds here in the USA. Holder said that we must “brainwash” people into thinking that guns are the enemy and Obama has a strong anti-gun past. I feel that the mall shooting didnt go as planned, it wasnt big enough, so they pushed this one to happen sooner than planned. Progs are very Machiavellian in their thinking, “the end justifies the means.” To them it doesnt matter how many people die, as long as their goal is attained. FDR knew that an outpost in the Pacifc was going to be attacked, yet he did nothing to get us involved in WW2. Obama views himself as an FDR type figure. Im not the paranoid type either, but I cant get this theory out of my head.

Get the thought out of your mind. These shooters didn’t even own the guns they stole. Unfortunately this stuff is going to happen whether guns or any other type weapons were banned. The answer is constant alertness to what is going on around you and taking responsibility for what you become aware of and then acting on the data.

We will never know. If an underground gov’t “conspiracy” is at work, a million autopsies can be done on a million atrocities, and all will come back “Negative”. Conspiracies, whether you believe in them or not, or even half-and-half, remain conspiracies because there is either nothing to them in the first place, or because those behind the conspiracy are smart enough (and powerful enough) to prevent anything to ever provide proof of one.
There are many things going on in society and in politics (and not just in ours) that enable such things as this horrific event, all of which, unfortunately, are being put forward as “solutions” to various social/legal “ills” by those in Power.

If one can argue that poverty is a cause of crime and Obama is making us poor, then you could argue that Obama is causing this. Secondly, Obama is playing a game of chicken. Last September Boehner negotiated with him in secret & came 1/2 way. When that happened Obama doubled down & wanted Boehner to go 75% of the way to Obama’s Position

For example, if you are negotiating to buy a house listed for 100K & you start by offering them 90K. & they come back at you with 95K, well that is normal negotiations.
But lets say you agree to 95K, and they turnaround & say 105k, you walk out of there & call them psycho.

Obama is doing just that. He is playing chicken during a bad economy and it is scaring the HeIII out of people.

      Yup Obama is to blame.

@edgeofsanity who said…”BTW there were some 56 million gun owners over the weekend who did not do mayhem.”
Agreed. Sometimes society paints everyone in a group with the bad acts of a fraction of the group.
It is what the right has been doing to muslims, hispanics and blacks for years. Don’t like it much when it happens to you, do you?

That’s what I was thinking. I bet we’ll start hearing more of these stories not because someone intended to do harm but because someone else fears gun collections or has a vendetta against the person who has the guns. See: Randy Weaver (Ruby Ridge)

Sounds like your defending your own kind (old right wing NRA member). Typical right winger that would assume a muslim as the person who did it. But as soon as its your own kind you draw skepticism.

      @ Rachael
You are so right…let’s not forget that Randy’s troubles started when an informant working for the “authorities” bugged Randy for a long time to cut down a shotgun for him until he finally did it for him (below legal lengths) …they created the crime in order to get to him.

I think a healthy bit of paranoia these days would be advised when dealing with new people in your personal and professional lives.

Too much missing data as to how long has he lived there, have there been other threats from him? Shouldn’t even be publicized until the facts are known……..what happened to innocent til proven guilty?

      Forgot to add:

What will happen if some terror group, domestic or foreign, decides to use this kind of chaos and social disorder to strike and strike hard at the nations people? I keep thinking of the Anthrax scare and the beltway-sniper matters as to how much chaos can all so easily be inflicted on all of us.

IT should be a federal crime for anyone to threaten schools. They have it on airplanes… no jokes about bombs… they should have it about schools…also I’m all for gun ownership, but 47 seems very excessive unless you own a gun store or it’s a collection on display … but 47 stashed guns is an arsenal and it’s not believable that anyone would need that many different guns. JUST like the Lanzo mother didn’t need 3 guns and should never have been given them with her son having access (being on psyche meds or whatever) – no one should have an arsenal. JUST like we won’t compromise on the private ownership of guns, we also have to be reasonable about the number of guns, don’t we? WE no longer live in a country that is free, because we’ve eliminated all the elements which insure freedom for everyone. When we put GOD back in schools, Teach that ALL life is Precious; Teach right vs. wrong then we can get back on track. What is happening now is the result of being an UNGODLY, IMMORAL nation. (PS: The same “celebrities” who are grousing are the ones who have contributed greatly to the decline of our morality)

5 more days until the solstice. I can’t wait for this madness to be over. Holdouts will take another 2 or 3 months. The Fiscal Cliff is not helping ain’t helping. either.

At this point I wonder If Obama would hold out on a fiscal deal just to get gun control to fall in his lap be squeezing the American people with uncertainty until enough nuts pop off.

Be careful what you wish for. The solution to everything is not more laws…especially Federal laws…for everything. We have endless laws covering endless possibilities, none of which ever really stop anything. It just gives Gov’t another excuse to arrest, prosecute, jail and/or take money from someone who probably didn’t do anything at all. More laws are never the answer, it only leads to Rule By Law, which is the ultimate form of tyranny. We are already half way there, why would you want to speed it up anymore than it is going?
