‘Friday Changed Everything’: MSNBC’s Scarborough Goes on Epic Rant, Says He’s Changing His ‘Libertarian’ Stance on Gun Control
In a Monday morning monologue following the tragedy in Newtown, CT, MSNBC host and former GOP congressman Joe Scarborough said he’s having a change of heart regarding certain aspects of gun control.
“For me, just like for you, there is no escaping the horrors visited upon those students and teachers at Sandy Hook,” he began, after noting that his own son has Asberger’s Syndrome just like has been reported about the shooter, Adam Lanza.
“But every American must know, form this day forward, nothing can ever be the same again,” he added. “…Let Newtown be the hour after which, in the words of the New Testament, we did all we could do to make all things do. Politicians can no longer be allowed to defend the status quo.” And he made no qualms that he was talking about gun control, bringing up other recent shootings, “combat-style weapons,” and “twisted readings of our Bill of Rights.”
He did say that “no single action can solve the problem that can save our children,” but he still let it be known where a lot of the blame lies:
“You know me: I am a conservative Republican who received the NRA’s highest ratings over four terms in Congress. I saw this debate over guns as a powerful symbolic struggle between individual rights and government control. … But the symbols of that ideological struggle they’ve been shattered by the harvest zone from violent, mind-numbing video games and gruesome Hollywood movies that dangerously desensitize those who struggle with mental health challenges. And then add in military-style weapons and high-capacity magazines to that equation and tragedy can never be too far behind. … You know there is now easy ideological way forward. If it were only that simple as to blame Hollywood, or the NRA, or insufficient funding for mental health, then our task would be completed in no time. But I come to you this morning with a heavy heart and no easy answers. Still, I’ve spent the past few days grasping for solutions and struggling for answers — while daring to question my own long-held belief on these subjects.”
Then, after explaining that he once held and defended the “libertarian” view on guns, he’s changing:
I knew that day that the ideologies of my past career were no longer relevant to the future that I want, that I demand for my children. Friday changed everything. It must change everything. We all must begin anew and demand that Washington’s old way of doing business is no longer acceptable. Entertainment moguls don’t have an absolute right to glorify murder while spreading mayhem in young minds across America. And our Bill of Rights does not guarantee gun manufacturers the absolute right to sell military-style, high-caliber, semi-automatic combat assault rifles with high-capacity magazines to whoever the hell they want. It is time for Congress to put children before deadly dogmas.
“For the sake of my four children and yours, I choose live and I choose change. It’s time to turn over the tables inside the temple,” he concluded.
You can listen to him explain it all, below:

Lets re-title this piece as:
‘Friday Changed Everything’: MSNBC’s Scarborough Goes on a long, whiny, Rant, Says He’s Changing His ‘Libertarian’ Stance on Gun Control to a more politically correct stance. One that won’t rile his bosses, and will be at least marginally acceptable to his small, liberal, audience.

is no smarter than doing the same when a person steals a car and rams a bunch of people.
Some things cannot be cured.
Stupidity, it seems, for one.
If you want to be pissed, be pissed at the mother who did not lock up her weapons when she knew her child was on the edge.
Sue her estate if it makes you feel better but that is a wussie tactic.
Your lawsuit against the gvmt will only get other overly smart kids with mental problems locked up in an insane asylum BEFORE they do anything wrong.
And what will the ACLU think about that?

The Central Bank has been taking your tax dollars Since you began earning income.
That is because of the Federal Reserve Act of 1913.
Don’t be pissed at me that you are a factotum to the private bank and pay Unconstitutional Unapportioned Tax. That is your own fault, due to your ignorance of History.
I don’t believe in friviolous Lawsuits. That is why I would never sue the Family of the shooter because they were not responsible for anything. Her estate should go to surviving relatives.
I also don’t blame the Mother for not locking up her guns. I am sure she didn’t see this coming.
My point was to not blame the gun, and turn the tables on those who demonize a tool that helps me feel secure though out my life. Safe and secure at Home. Safe and Secure when I travel. And Safe and secure when I am in a Precarious situation.
You do NOT punish those who are not responsible for brutal and vicious crimes.

An interesting statistic: California can be considered to be the strictest state in the nation in regard to gun control. Interestingly enough, they also had, by far, the MOST firearm related murders. In contrast, Vermont had NONE. Vermont, by the way, is a Constitutional carry state, which means ANYONE can carry concealed, with no permits or licenses.

I cannot understand why progressives think taking guns away is a good idea? Was it a good idea in Germany? The U.S.S.R.? China? etc. Looking back on history, it seems to me a disturbing pattern that citizens who lose their rights to own firearms end up up slaughtered by the same government that took away their guns. But not this time, right? We learned from those tragedies. We have attained a level where citizens should place our trust in the benevolence of those who hold office. What makes you think that a government that sponsors the murder of 3,000 babies per day would not hesitate to slaughter those who would dare speak out against it if they are disarmed? I believe the only reason they have not slaughtered us yet is the fact that we are armed. The aggressors have high-capacity magazines, Fully-automatic weapons, and we are expected to defend ourselves with what? Muzzle-loaders? All you useful idiots out there had better think real hard about this. As I recall, the useful idiots of the past suffered the same fate as everyone else.

Posted on December 17, 2012 at 4:16pmOk Encinom say I buy your argument that no one should own military weapons………..it still leaves out the weapons recently used……..no military armorer wants to preted the AR15 types we get all horny about are miliary rifles………calling them assault rifles is like calling a jeep liberty an armor plated humvee.
I think we are better off to protect our schools etc. Just like we do our lawmakers…..no more, no less. Do you not think the terrorist currently hiding in our country after crossing our ridiculous border security don’t know our schools are easy killing zones ?
Wake up America, we shut God out and are bound to slavery, hooks in the jaw so to speak. It ain’t exactly pretty, but if you choose not to defend yourself so be it. Just don’t lay your weakness on the rest of us who will likely be the ones who save your **** at our own peril.

Posted on December 17, 2012 at 4:41pmWe accept the fact that the price of drinking alcohol is that some people will abuse it and destroy their lives and the lives of others. Because of that some people choose not to drink at all, but they don’t insist that THEIR choice must be imposed on everyone else.
We accept the fact that driving tons of metal at 60+ miles/hour is a great way to get to where you’re going, but that some people will abuse this freedom and kill themselves and others. Some people choose not to drive because of that, but they don’t insist that THEIR choice must be imposed on everyone else.
And the above examples are not even constitutional rights. It is our right as a freedom loving people to have arms, and to use them as we see fit. We must understand that this right comes with a heavy responsibility, that we must train ourselves to be proficient and safe with a tool that deals death.
BUT we must also accept the fact that some will choose not to be responsible for this awesome right, and that they will do evil with their freedom. Therefore the price of freedom will always be blood, and sometimes the blood of innocents. It’s an awful truth, but no amount of emotional pleas, or nebulous thinking will change this fact.

The US federal government still, to this day, defines the militia as every able-bodied man over the age of 18.
The military branches, you know, the Army, Air Force, etc. Those are not “militias” you idiot. Militias are citizen soldiers. Those guys, they’re professionals.

Our founding fathers knew that a militia is formed from people who already have arms. Encinom’s claim is just another progressive tactic. They attempt to distort the true meaning of the Constitution in order to further their political agenda. Sorry Encinom but we the people know better.

It’s Spoiled Brat morons–like you–who created these guns free zones, thereby ensuring psychopaths a safe place to do their damage. The Aurora shooter bypassed theaters closer to his residence, and used the one for his attack, because they posted a no concealed weapons sign outside.
If you hated gun violence as much as you hate guns, you’d know the solution is more guns in the hands of good people.

Fact of the matter is that there are many guns out there that are can put about as much down range in the right hands as the AR. There is no right to mental health cost coverage.
There is a right to self defense.

Just a thought on the shooter: most experts will point out, the one thing the killer fears most is failure -the Majority of the time the Killer intends to die. They pick the target where they are least likely to fail – as an example, the Aurora movie theater shooting. What deters the killer is the possibility of failing especially where the intended target might be armed or be around others that might be armed..(concealed carry) This is a mental illness issue not a gun grabber issue. Deter these people (concealed carry), problem solved.
