‘Real News’: Is Now the Time to Talk About Gun Control?

Shootings always put the issue of gun control high up on the national political and media agenda for a few weeks, with an upsurge of emotion and public outcry sustaining the issue for some time before falling once again down the do list for our representatives in Washington D.C.

President Obama offered the following question in his address from Newton, Connecticut, Friday night, the site of the horrific shooting at an elementary school that resulted in the deaths of 20 children under 10 years old: “Are we prepared to say that such violence visited on our children year after year after year is somehow the price of our freedom?”

The tragedy has provided a timely platform for gun control advocates to call greater attention to their cause, but second amendment enthusiasts and gun rights backers are firing back, asking if questions like President Obama’s are fair at this time when any legislative proposals are clearly reactionary. Gun control adovates in turn argue “If not now, when?”

California Sen. Diane Feinstein announced Sunday that she plans to introduce a new gun control bill on the first day of the next session of Congress, and the Obama Administration is now openly discussing various options for gun control legislation that the president will push for in his next term.

On ‘Real News’ Monday the panel discussed if these potential laws will it do anything to prevent tragedies like what happened in Newtown, and whether shortly after such instances take place, is the best time to write legislation that will make the most effective law while respecting the Constitution:

      There appears to be a connection between the Sandy Hook shooter and the Aurora Co. shooter..both men’s dads were connected to the Federal Reserve and supposedly were to testify in the LIBOR scandal last June that rocked the banking world..One source did not believe it and suggested it was a rouse to take attention away from big Pharma..but another source pointed to all of the descrepancies,bogus, convoluted reporting of the 2 incidents.. For example there was reported three guns at the Sandy Hook shooting, and for 40 some hours two guns were in the school used in the shootings, but the automatic rifle was left in the suspect’s mother’s car.. Mid day yesterday that same rifle was magically now NOT in the mother’s car but in the school and was the primary weapon the supposed shooter used. Amazing reporting, and how convenient that now this all fit’s perfectly with their automatic weapons band push !! think of all the stories from different news media..Peter Lanza (Adam Lanza’s dad) who is a VP and Tax Director at GE Financial (one of the many corporations owned and controlled by the CENTRAL (FED) BANKERS). The father of Aurora Colorado Batman movie theater accused shooter James Holmes is Robert Holmes, the lead fraud scientist for the credit score company FICO which works with all major banks, and is directly connected to the function of London.16 international CENTRAL (FED) BANK owned banks have been implicated in this ongoing scandal,

    Why don’t we ask the Black Panthers to guard all the schools? They already get a check (welfare, EBT, and the Obamma phones to communicate direct to Eric Holder with.) This would make them earn the taxpayer money they already receive and protect all the children.
    Problem solved; and they would enjoy taking out the crazies they all claim do these things anyway. Non Blacks and Non Asians are the serial killers, per them, so it would be a win-win for Washington.
    Oh and all us law abiding citizens would get to keep our guns and no mass shootings would ever happen again. : )

      The gun control petition is the most popular petition right now on the white house website. I truly hope that this does not remain the case. Sign the petition allowing individual schools the right for their teachers to be armed marshal’s. Lets make this one the most popular and send the gun control morons packing. Is NOW the time to talk about gun control?

    Well, as long as there are gallons of water pouring out of the eyes of the bereaved, the simple answer would be ‘no.’ There is a time to g r i e v e . And it must run its course. When the time to heal begins, then yes, THAT is the time. And at that time, I suggest we learn some lessons from the Israeli’s and how they defend life and property.

    Years ago it was asked to a high ranking individual in El AL about their ability to not allow plane hijacks- ‘Its easy,’ was the response, ‘we do not allow them on the plane.’ A simple statement, but loaded with training without embarrassing grandma in her wheelchair. They know what to look for, they are skilled in ways we would be jealous of. So yes, enroll their help, and the gun will be used, but as a last resort, not to be offensive, but to defend.

    But others already have said to enlist the aid of retired army or other military personnel, (jobs??) and train people to use firearms to defend- if the killer in Connecticut knew there were arms inside, that doesnt happen, or he is killed before the carnage. There is no single solution, but the old Boy Scout motto is ever relevant: ‘be prepared,’ and killers do their magic when folks are not prepared. Expect the best, prepare for the worst.

    I really would like to see honest reporting about homeowners who defended life and property with arms; I’d bet the number of cases would dwarf all the attention of today.

    Wait a minute – they let a sedated homicidal maniac with a black suit and a helmet shaped **** cut run loose around a school on a daily basis without being handcuffed – and, ” they,” ( the Northerners ) expect us ( forgive, I’m assuming reasoning powers ) believe that “they” have the intelligence to dictate the terms on the survival of our children by taking our guns away ! Now, who is really the insane person here? Please ! Let us go back to the beginning and talk about putting a fence somewhere – may I suggest where ?

    Guns cannot be controlled – only people can be “controlled”- let’s call it what the Dem / Socialist really mean – They are demanding “people control” and that does not mean control of criminals or the mentally insane. The politicians want “control of the people.” Fear is the great weapon of charlatans.

    Before any intelligent discussion can begin on Gun Control the following question must be answered:
    “In any of the mass shootings would more people be alive or would more people be dead it there had been a responsible employee or employees properly trained and licensed to carry a concealed weapon.”

    Any solution arrived at without the answer to that question in nothing more than knee jerk grandstanding.

    Why are we even entertaining the thought about gun control? There is nothing anyone could have done about the current tragedy because evil people will always do evil things and you can’t legislate evil away. Liberals make me sick with their knee jerk reactions wanting to take away everyones Constitutional rights when freaks do something evil. These are the same liberals who have no problem murdering 2,000 plus innocent human lives everyday through their support of abortion but now we are supposed to believe they care about life. The bodies of those poor little kids weren’t even cold yet and Michael Bloomberg is on national TV. Rupert Murdoch is on the news claiming that “now is the time to get automatic weapons off the street”. Some other tinpot politician is claiming that now is the time to “exploit” the tragedy and finally get rid of guns. And so it goes. Feinstein, Obama, Schumer, and lefty politicians of every yellow stripe, all lined up to grab a few seconds on the news. And the vampire TV journalists are tweeting family members of the victims trying to schedule ghoulish on the air interviews, because the “people need to know”. Not a second to lose.

    Guns are not the issue, it is the abnormal people that use them in these ways. And if you look at realistically is doesn’t pay in this country to be normal. It seems like the majority of our laws and regulations are there to protect and place the abnormal above the normal. EG if you get into an altercation with the wrong guy it is a hate crime. look at the environmentalist and the EPA there demands and regulations are far from normal. and every sub culture perverted group is protected. Even lizards are put above the good of humans. Regulations and congress has become insane. They were sent there to work for the normal people who sent them there. not some sub culture special interest group. and part of the reasoning behind the 2nd was to make sure or government was controlled by normal people.

    I think it is high time we talk about “Gun Control”.

    First topic, “Gun Free Zones”: They don’t work. Let us get rid of this rediculous rule. Criminals do not respect the sign.

    Second topic: High capacity magazines. Let’s restrict magazines to 10 rounds. Sales for tape will go up because all you have to do is tape two 10 round magazines and you have a 20 round magazine with a very brief “intermission” after the first 10 rounds. Does that really make it better for society?

    Third Topic: Which guns to restrict? Well, lets start with AR-15′s….they can shoot a nasty .223 bullet….and if you have a magazine of 10 rounds, that will be unacceptable. But if you are going to ban that, might as well ban the .22 “varmit” rifle, bullet is just a bit smaller, but not much….less propellent, but that hunk of lead is almost as big as a .223; but the kicker is, most of these rifles come with 10 round magazines. Tape two magazines together and then you get the scenario in topic two. So lets get rid of those rifles as well!

    And hand-guns…man, they don’t usually have “high capacity” magazines….but most 9mm handguns can take 13 rounds…..that’s WAY more then 10! Get rid of those too!

    Where do you draw the freaking line?

    Why don’t we concentrate on the root cause….the deranged shooter in the first place? But even then, they just might resort to……pipe bombs?

      And for those of you who feel that hiring more policemen to cover schools, libraries, playgrounds, municple sports fields, state recreational areas, national forests, your neighborhood, your garage….your bedroom…..where does it stop? You can’t just keep hiring public employees because you are taking people from the private sector, and they are needed to support the bloated government employees we already have! Not knocking our public servants; but man, how do you sustain this increase in public employee hiring?

      Permitting citizens to qualify, aquire, and carry weapons is essential to our public safety. I read a book about a kid whom was blinded by a firework accident. He had to learn braille, and deal with becoming blind and coping with the world. During his rehab after his accident, his “trainer” after instructing this kid to navigate the hallways by counting steps. The kid scraped himself up pretty good in this first excercise. The kid complained to his trainer, “why did you let me get scraped up on those edges along the walls? The trainer replied, “you can’t pad all the sharp corners in life”.

      I found that profound, and applicable to this talk about gun control. We can’t pad all the rough stuff in life….sometimes you have to equip yourself and deal with it. We will never legislate out violence, there will always be weapons. And there will always be mass murders. I just don’t want to be caught unprepared when I meet those rough edges.

    The only gun control we need to talk about is:
    1. to start hiring decorated combat-ready returning service men and women as guards on school campuses and pay them at least as much per year as the principal makes;
    2. use tax monies to shore up the buildings themselves bringing them up to safety levels acceptable in ISRAEL for their schools;
    3. all teachers and staff have courses throughout the year on gun safety— how to load one and how to use it effectively. Those teachers unwilling to learn how to use a gun to defend their own lives and their students’ lives probably shouldn’t be teaching in a public school these days;
    4. students should be taught defense protocols just as we were taught “duck and cover” and bomb drills throughout our growing up days.
    5. all schools should have safe rooms designated throughout the school for emergencies such as this.

    Had we been ready, folks. Had we been ready officially, this wouldn’t have happened.

    “No guns!” is NOT the answer. Learning how to use them safely and wisely is.

      I don’t really care for item 5 by itself mainly because to get to a ‘safe room’ you have to move from point A to point B, and this can expose people to danger unnecessarily.

    Firearms are used far more often by law abiding citizens for personal defense than for the horrible murders committed by deranged criminals. (Although this fact is rarely (if ever) reported by the MSM)

    Guns act as “force equalizers” for all men, women, and children enabling defense from stronger, or more able, violent attackers that would otherwise not be possible. No matter how much regulation you impose on weapons, no matter how ‘hard’ or ‘difficult’ legislators try to make it on law-abiding people to even purchase a weapon there is one truth that will never, ever change…….

    IT WILL ALWAYS BE EASIER FOR CRIMINALS TO OBTAIN WEAPONS OF THEIR CHOOSING.

      If I may be frank, if they outlaw my means of self defense, then I have no further need to restrict myself to what is now legal. A lawful person has no moral obligation to follow the edicts of lawless thugs. Read that any way you wish.

      @ GhostOfJefferson

      Can you imagine how many times in the last 4 years that I’ve said to my family and friends exactly what you just said?

      I agree 100%.

      Aye Tsunami, probably as many times as I have.

      If I’m made an outlaw by unconstitutional law, then I shall make myself a true outlaw by deed. I’ll be moral and virtuous, but the need to follow the laws of the lawless will no longer apply.

    There is no debate, and there is no question. My rights are mine and mine alone, given to me by God and revokable only by God. No popular opinion poll, tragedy, vote or mob with pitchforks may deprive me of my rights, except by killing me, and even then the question is up to God alone.

    Never comply. Never submit. Never turn in your weapons. Your life depends on it.

      “A free people ought not only to be armed and disciplined, but they should have sufficient arms and ammunition to maintain a status of independence from any who might attempt to abuse them, which would include their own government.”
