RI Man, Wife Charged With Drunk Driving During Separate Incidents…on the Same Night

LINCOLN, R.I. (TheBlaze/AP) — File this one under “painful irony.” Rhode Island State Police say a husband and wife both face charges of driving under the influence after they were stopped separately on the same night.

Police say 43-year-old Stephanie Souza, of Warwick, was stopped in Cranston on Friday, and a chemical test on her at the Lincoln barracks indicated she’d been driving under the influence. But chaos for the Souza family didn’t end there.

Authorities say that 44-year-old Michael Souza was also pulled over for a motor vehicle violation in Lincoln while driving to get his wife, then taken into custody. They say a chemical test on him at the Lincoln barracks indicated he was also driving under the influence.

A number for the Souzas could not be located Sunday and they could not be reached for comment.

    Many times in my earlier-life, I was called-uppon to be the “designated-driver”…I donot drink booze, so I was the logical choice. My buddies, with girlfriends and /or wives took me allong ’cause I was a “funny-sober-person” , and also a good friend of all. they “bribed” me with lunches and dinners to “come-allong” so I would drive them-all home….safely! Now, many years-later, I still get fonecalls and e-mails from them about the fun-events we-all went to and the great times we had. Each year, I drive to my home-state just to do mucho-visitating. Alla their “babes” are now their wives and husbands with kids(some /w/grandkids). I sure am happy I was able to keep my friends “safe” for their future great-life.

    Uh, oh. Separate criminal lawyers, separate beds and finally, separate divorce lawyers. How sad.

    I would like to see a blood alcohol reading or a Breathalyzer result before passing judgement. One Law enforcements ” driving under the influence” is different than another.

      Well, there is a legal limit. If you’re over the limit, you’re under the influence. It sounds like they were home drinking, she decided to go out somewhere, for some reason and got stopped. When they called him to come get her, he got pulled over FOR A DIFFERENT VIOLATION, maybe running a stop sign? And when tested, tested over the limit, too. There’s a moral to this story: If you have a family member that’s caught driving while drinking, and the police call you to come get them, make sure you haven’t been drinking. If you have, call someone else to drive you…duh!

      One jurisdiction has DUI and DWI while another has only DWI.
      When I wore the badge and sidearm, we had DUI/DWI…
      Most that I pulled over were DUI, when they were and they lived close, I would cuff them and put the fear of GOD into them for a repeat performance. Take them home to the wife for the wife’s wrath was going to be more than ANY judge would give them.

      To the above situation, my attempt may have been fruitless.

      @Dadrocked
      Taking one home is all a peace officer is to do. What you did was just and you should be proud of your service. This couple is about to get robbed blind. Including paying for attorneys who won’t challenge “jurisdiction”. What is “jurisdiction”, anyways?
