Wash. Post Editor Compares Obama’s Newtown Shooting Speech to Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address

It was a somber weekend following the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting that left 20 children dead on Friday. Last night, President Barack Obama passionately addressed the nation, speaking at a Newtown, Connecticut, interfaith vigil for the victims of the horrific attack. Following his speech, Washington Post associated editor David Maraniss was apparently so moved that he took to Twitter to compare the president’s words to Abraham Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address.

“People will long remember what Barack Obama said in Newtown…his Gettysburg address,” Maraniss tweeted.

Just before making this intriguing comparison, he highlighted the “many levels” he saw present in Obama’s speech, noting that it included: “philosophical, sorrowful determined universal, simple [and] beautiful” themes.

Not everyone agrees with this assessment. Columnist and commentator Charles Krauthammer, for one, called the address “highly political.” And Jim Hoft on the conservative blog Gateway Pundit also seemed to disagree with Maraniss’ assessment, writing, “Lincoln wrote his speeches, was fighting a Civil War and actually matched his words with deeds. Obama has done nothing on the weapons front except run guns to Mexico.”

The tyrant Lincoln was a product of the Illinois political machine, like Barack Hussein Obama. Lincoln was supported by the industrial powers of his day, much like Obama is as well. Lincoln also saw himself above the Constitution, due to his ‘finding’ powers in it that had not been discovered by previous Presidents. He did not respect the power of Congress and often operated as a loose canon. He exercised powers that he had no legal authority to do so with presidential mandates, much like Obama has been doing. Lincoln committed Federal troops before he was sworn into office. He orchestrated clandestine military operations to provoke the South and in violation of his promises.

  The Lincoln myth has been programmed into the American psyche for just such moments. Any time the name of Lincoln is evoked, you can bet another piece of the constitution will be burned.
  
  It is the ultimate tragedy of our history how the man who destroyed the entire bill of rights, is so aggrandized by those who continue to destroy our nation – and the people continue to fall for this ruse with thunderous applause.
  
  You Lincoln-lovers hang on to your britches, because the poison of his actual legacy will soon be re-enacted upon us. We’re just hours away from gun ownership being equated with human ownership – and to be eradicated in the same way. Genocide.
  
  Lincoln’s actual laundry list of treason against the constitution is lengthy, but to the majority of brainwashed Americans – excusable. Will those transgressions be excusable when your head is on the choppng block? I’m sorely afraid we’re about to find out.

  Well, I certainly didn’t compare him to Abe, but then again, who gives an isht? There are freaks on this site talking about the rapture. Talk about fantasy land. I mean adults, full grown people, are talking about the rapture. That kind of nonsense is more terrifying than anything. Living in NY, more times than not, if you are screaming about that stuff on the subway trains, you are just arrested for being a lunatic, but on this site, its common place.. Too funny.
  
  On another note, fat huckabee was talking about there not being enough prayer (LOL) in schools and that’s why this happened.   Lincoln was hated in his day and called a warmonger by the newspapers before and during the war. People tend to forget that. This Obama lecture, was no Gettysbergs address, it was another condescending lecture about how we need more “change”. Another excuse to attack Americans who probably didn’t vote for him who cling to their guns, their Bibles, and religion. He and Holder got together beforehand and parroted nearly word for word the same *hit. Wackos exist, this kid was a product of liberalism and the Department of Education. He was reared in the Northeastern area of the nation, so the “southern mentality or propensity” for guns is not relevant. Crazy people do these things, evil people do these things. So naturally Obama is going weaken gun owner’s rights and enjoy his favorite past-time, by *hitting on the Constitution even more. This speech told us everything he plans on doing and he’s going after the second amendment. No question anymore.

I am happy to tell you this much, our gov’t has been socialistic for 75 years or more, starting with Wilson, and every president since has had a hand in dismantling parts of our Constitution. Our gov’t is broke and broken, we are in a depression right now, but for the skewed numbers and lies we hear from DC, no one can be sure what will happen in the future. Therefore, with all of the uncertainty, there will be no true recovery. The moral decadence in our society is a direct result of removing God from our national lexicon, which I am sure you will disagree with. However, there will come a time when we will ALL face the piper, and when that happens, there will not be any place to hide. I will never bow down to, or get on my knees to any gov’t or man (such as your man Obama, who bows to foreign heads of state); I will stand up for freedom, individualism and free markets with my head held high. I fear no man or gov’t, I fear God only. So you can defend socialism/communism all you want, and you can come and try to take my guns and Bible, but you will fail miserably in that task.   Never heard of anything so foolish in my life.These lefties are quite seriously infatuated with this man. After my first full year at a major university, I had enough of this egomaniac intellectual nim-wits. All who have lived a life thriving off us putting their ego first and for most, for the purpose of moving up the academia, securing research grants, and proving they are the smartest of them all… Yet, never having done any real work in all their lives. Of course these fools would believe this speech is of the like of Lincolns Gettysburg address. As a 37 year old, X-Junky, working towards my psychology degree for the very reason of sitting in rehabs listing to these intellectual elites tell me all kind of very interesting knowledge about addiction and practices that would be really cool and maybe even useful if I was normal, but I am a junkie and I am not normal. If I was I wouldn’t have the overwhelming compulsion to use mood and mind altering drugs to manage my life in this crazy messed up world. But I digress.. I learned the solution at somepoint along the way, and these intellects had no clue of the power of such a spiritual solution, although their “knowledge”, did mention it as important, but not as important was what they told me of course. Anyways, I couldn’t take listening to them anymore, and decided, somebody who has actually lived life, needs to get a degree, so he be the so called “professional”, and convey a real message, not a scripted one like Obam

Not only were they living in each other’s time, but were highly complementary of each other. The “Collected works of Marx and Engals”, is rife with praise for Lincoln – during and after the war. Satisfy yourself by reading ad nauseum at m a r x i s t . o r g with the search “Lincoln”. You’ll even find a return letter from Lincoln to Marx acknowleding the communist party as, “…the friend of humanity and progress throughout the world.” and that the Lincoln administration, “…derive new encouragements to persevere from the testimony of the workingmen of Europe that the national attitude is favored with their enlightened approval and earnest sympathies.”
  
  Even Obama hasn’t been so bold in his endorsements of Marx – as directly and without question as Lincoln. The Marxists know who thier kind are, and Lincoln was amongst the originals.

The warning signs are there friends. The have been coming slowly but continuously over the last few years. A civil war is coming and it’s going to be REALLY bad. Are you getting ready? The dolts that elected Obama, that live in the city, and are at the greatest risk, are not preparing. You MUST get out of the large cities to the country. What are you going to do when the food lines shut down? Are the police going to protect you? Amen, Snowleopard, you’re dead on, with that analysis. He wants to be “God” and he wants to rule the world. He’s also a TV HOGG and all he wants is to get TV (media face time) whenever and whereever he can. I would be furious if he disrupped my small town with his “enterge’ ” of secret service. I think what he has done is so disgusting. I’ve lost a child, and I didn’t want to see anyone but my immediate family members and close friends. If you think I would want to see “O” at my church, or at my home, you would be so wrong! The audacity of this man is beyond comprehension. He should be ashamed, but he doesn’t have an “ashamed bone in his body”, nor a true caring bone, as if he did, he would have stayed away and just sent a kind word. As a mother of a lost child, his presence would have made me more depressed.

I suppose that when you love a man, anthing he does or says is deemed Licolnesque. Our media is disgusting. I liked Obama’s speech, and thought he executed a thoughtful referendum on the events of Friday, however, I’m not quick to say this speech was historical.

Lincoln was trying to reconcile and keep the United States united and as one. Obama is trying and will continue to try and to divide this country to attain his progressive (secular) agenda, e.g. divide and conquer.

  Barry Soetoro is a truly ghoulish man indeed and the sycophants in the so called press are worshiping a man! To see this man exploiting the massacre of those innocent children is beyond the pale,how many times has he spoke about this horrific massacre? Three or four times now? He’s using this massacre to advance his agenda of disarming the public at large. If the government is the only entity that’s allowed to be armed that will be the end of our republic and the dawn of a tyrannical regime.

Obama should have done all of us a favor and remained in the Whitehouse. He needs to be concentraing on having Hillary testify why Christ Stephens was killed and take responsibility for this. He needs to be working on the fiscal cliff. He needs to put his priorities in perspective and start using common sense.

He had no business interrupting the parents who have lost their children and loved ones. He brings little hope to them, but he should take full responsiblity for the lost lives in Bengazi/Libya. If I were the parents of Chris Stephens and those other three men, I would be livid why their killings are being pushed under the carpet. The nonsense make Nixon and Watergate look like an angel.

Hillary Clinton, if she’s even contemplating running in 2016, needs to gett off her A$$ and testify before her peers about what happened. She’s scared! She’s a whimp! She’s got no business in politics, but the liberals are too darn dumb to realize what’s going on. Maybe they do, but I’m telling you, “O” and “Hillary are responsible fot the killings of our Ambassador and the other three men. Shame on the entire Washington D. C. leaders. Shame!!!!!

Lincoln was trying to keep the United States “united.” Obama has and will continue to try to divide the people of the United States to attain his progressive (secular) goal, e.g. divide and conquer.

  Yes, and he’s getting ready to do what Hitler did, when he took away “the people’s” guns. He doesn’t want you to be able to protect yourself or your family. It’s coming, as he believes “our government” can protect us. He’s so full of pooh! He will do something by using “executive order”, as he a pro at doing this, just wait! Things with “O” and the “NRA” will be heating up soon.
  
  All because a woman didn’t lock up her guns, knowing she had a mentally disturbed son living under her roof. If the little sucker wanted to get guns, he would have found them, at home or someone else, but they were just to easy to come by. He planned this methodical attack weeks in advance. He was sick. You can’t get rid of the sicko’s, and thankfully we don’t have to feed hiim three meals a day, or allow attorney’s to get richer by representing him.
