School Board Bans Confederate Flag, Any Other Imagery Deemed to Be ‘Racially Hostile, Offensive or Intolerant’
BUDA, Texas (TheBlaze/AP) — A Central Texas school board is banning the Confederate battle flag from district property and district-sponsored events.
Hays board members voted 5-2 Monday to amend the student code of conduct to ban the flag, which was formerly displayed with the Hays High School Rebel mascot. The ban also covers any imagery deemed to be “racially hostile, offensive or intolerant,” the Associated Press reports.
The action comes after two students were accused of writing racial slurs and urinating on the door of a black teacher’s classroom in May at Hays High. The school is in Buda, 15 miles south of Austin.
In October, the Hays board decided to keep Confederate anthem “Dixie” as the school fight song.
KVUE has more details on the history of the Confederate flag in the school district:

As a white southerner, I object to the words such as “red neck,” hill billy,” “*******,” as racists, and insensitive.
You will see more of this in the South in the years to come as the self-hating sentiment of northern whites spreads south.

Posted on December 19, 2012 at 11:03amNot just southerners. We have a college in southern Utah called Dixie College, with the Confederate flag and we were the rebels. After 30+ years of this college, in the early 2000′s a gal came to college here and the Confederate flag gave her chills down her spine and we lost that, the name Dixie is being debated as it offends some students and now we may lose our Rebels. There was a bronze statue of soliders with the Confederate flag, after 27 year, gone. All this started happening when we got a liberal black college professor…Hummmm to P.C.? Yeap, it is tearing the community apart and think that was his goal, teach at a small Mormon town and tear it apart!

1) If they can’t answer the first question quickly, succinctly and reasonably, then they haven’t punch much thought into their assault on the First Amendment.
2) If they aren’t afraid of the Confederacy rising again, then this is just more politically correct authoritarianism. (I bet it felt good, though.)

By Monday, the desk was taken over by maggots and I was given a “B” on my term paper because she refused to rescue and grade it, lucky me! That was over 30 years ago, I hope the “Statute of Limitations” has run out on that obvious criminal act?
The removal of this flag, song and other references to “The South” is simply their way of re-writing history. Well, go back and find you an old globe. One with the Mason-Dixon line on it and prepare yourself for future events. You will need to know where the line in the sand is drawn. It’s coming, I can feel it. Not looking for a fight but I damn sure am not going to run from one.

Posted on December 18, 2012 at 7:24pmOh sure, this makes sense. Get rid of anything that potentially could be deemed “hateful”; that will stop events like students urinating on a black teachers classroom door. For all we know, if there was a white teacher in that particular classroom they may very well have urinated on the door anyway….IF this even happened at all. Might as well ban eating fried chicken and watermellon on school grounds as well.
The confederate flag is part of our history. Slavery is part of our history. Why deny it? Why bury it? Slavery was a terrible thing, but it did exist. We would do better to preserve these symbols of our history (i.e., confederate flag reminding us of our slavery past), so that we do not forget that it was terrible; and thus, do not go back down that road again.
Unfortunately, liberals think that by banning these symbols, they are moving closer to their utopian goal. To them, the sky can be rose colored…..all you need to do is put the rose colored glasses on. They fail to recognize that you may put rose colored glasses on, the sky is still really blue.

Most did not come from a large. rich plantation home. They were shopkeepers and dirt farmers. Most fought because they surmised that Washington d.c. was against States Rights and was dictating to them in many ways. The Southerner considered their states their countries and did not want to live under the yoke of Washington d.c. and the scoundrel there. They were right. I believe the same thing. With the union victory came federalism and the dictatorship of the federal government.

SOME of them were actually noble in their rebellion–the South was not. The South disrespected our political traditions of democracy and spat on the American social contract, all for their own economic selfishness and the desire of southern elites to retain their economic power through perpetuating their ownership of other human beings as property. “Any people anywhere being inclined and having the power have the right to rise up and shake off the existing government, and form a new one that suits them better. This is a most valuable, a most sacred right — a right which we hope and believe is to liberate the world. Nor is this right confined to cases in which the whole people of an existing government may choose to exercise it. Any portion of such people that can may revolutionize and make their own of so much of the territory as they inhabit. ”

===============
Seeking relief from oppressive taxation is not an ‘immoral purpose’:
———————-
“Prior to the U. S. “Civil War” there was no U. S. income tax. Considerably more than 90% of U. S. government revenue was raised by a tariff on imported goods. A tariff is a tax on selected imports, most commonly finished or manufactured products. A high tariff is usually legislated not only to raise revenue, but also to protect domestic industry from foreign competition. By placing such a high, protective tariff on imported goods it makes them more expensive to buy than the same domestic goods. This allows domestic industries to charge higher prices and make more money on sales that might otherwise be lost to foreign competition because of cheaper prices (without the tariff) or better quality. This, of course, causes domestic consumers to pay higher prices and have a lower standard of living. Tariffs on some industrial products also hurt other domestic industries that must pay higher prices for goods they need to make their products. Because the nature and products of regional economies can vary widely, high tariffs are sometimes good for one section of the country, but damaging to another section of the country.”

Posted on December 18, 2012 at 6:25pmNow-a-days everything is racial – peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, big bird, oreos, shoes, fishing poles, 8-track tape players, the bandaid on my knee. Whether the kids urinated on the teacher’s door was because he was black or white is irrelevant. The kids should be kicked out of the school.

Posted on December 18, 2012 at 7:04pmI agree with you JERK. Once again, .001 % of the people commit a crime or an unjust deed and everyone has to pay the price. Typical liberal response.
We have a huge Stars & Bars flag flying high here in FL along I-75 just south of Tampa sponsored by the Sons of Confederate Veterans. The NAAACP The national association for advancement of angry colored people have stomped up and down trying to get it removed but they have been squashed every time they throw a tantrum.

Posted on December 18, 2012 at 6:25pmWhile no one condones slavery, it was just one issue in the civil war. I don’t see how you can refer to the confederacy without using the flag. History combines a lot of different and sometimes unsavory things within a given event. Sac up y’all and face it responsibly.

Posted on December 18, 2012 at 7:25pmNo one is saying the Confederate flag doesn’t have a place in history. Flying it on school grounds or having the mascot carry it is a different story.
“just one issue of the Civil War…’, you seriously don’t fall for that crap do you? While there were several DIFFERENCES between northern and southern states, only one, the belief that the 1860 election signaled a shift in political power that would soon enable the congress to abolish slavery, warrented the war. Compare the two constitutions. Outside of the eternal protections granted to slavery, there is very little difference. The Confederates even ironically kept the provision allowing the suspension of habeus corpus in the event of rebellion. Few of the changes, outside of slavery, were significant as shown by the fact that only 2 of the changes had ever been considered in Congress before 1861. Southerners like to say the war was not about slavery, I imagine it’s ancestorally convenient, it certainly was in my family, but primary sources like the writings and speeches of Lincoln and Davis and the two Constitutions all point to it being a one issue war.

Oh…..you mean like Lincoln’s 1st Inaugural Address?:
————–
“I understand a proposed amendment to the Constitution—which amendment, however, I have not seen—has passed Congress, to the effect that the Federal Government shall never interfere with the domestic institutions of the States, including that of persons held to service. To avoid misconstruction of what I have said, I depart from my purpose not to speak of particular amendments so far as to say that, holding such a provision to now be implied constitutional law, I have no objection to its being made express and irrevocable.”
-Abraham Lincoln, First Inaugural Address, March 4, 1861
