NEW YORK (TheBlaze/AP) — The long wait is over. President Barack Obama has been named Time Magazine’s “Person of the Year” for 2012.
“We are in the midst of historic cultural and demographic changes, and Obama is both the symbol and in some ways the architect of this new America,” Time Editor Rick Stengel told NBC’s “Today” show, where he announced the selection on Wednesday.
The short list for the honor included Malala Yousafzai, the Pakistani teenager who was shot in the head for advocating for girls’ education, as well as Egyptian president Mohamed Morsi, Apple CEO Tim Cook and Italian physicist Fabiola Giannati.
This isn’t the first time that Obama has been selected; he also received the honor in 2008, when he was President-elect.

In an interview with Time, Obama said his re-election “may have been more satisfying a win than 2008.”
“We’ve gone through a very difficult time,” Obama said. “The American people have rightly been frustrated at the pace of change, and the economy is still struggling, and this president we elected is imperfect, and yet, despite all that, this is who we want to be. That’s a good thing.”
Last year, Time honored “The Protester,” citing dissent across the Middle East that spread to Europe and the United States, saying the protesters reshaped global politics.

Time’s “Person of the Year” is the person or thing that has most influenced the culture and the news during the past year for good or for ill. In 2010, Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg received the honor.
Other previous winners have included Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke, Bono and President George W. Bush.

I concede your point and agree. Although I do come off as a fire thrower sometimes, I do attempt to add a little levity to an otherwise hardcore conversation. Sure, sometimes it isn’t warranted (nor appreciated), but it never is really meant in any malice. Certainly, I like busting b@!!$, but in all honesty, I certainly don’t hate republicans ( i do have friends that are btw) but I strongly disagree with how the GOP view the direction of the country. You have to remember, that bc of the decisions of the Obama administration, we avoided what was certainly a depression. I saw it first hand though my business what happened and what was surely to happen if the banks weren’t bailed out. Now, with saying that, what happened after they were bailed out was disgusting, but in order to save the country/world from a meltdown, it needed to be done. Remember, all of the banks are local now because of how globalized they are. Everything is intertwined. As for Obamacare, there is a lot of about that that I disagree with, but I always believed that if you have the ability to help people that are less fortunate, than you should. Since I do ok, I try to help people, and if by paying a little more in taxes allows a few more people to see a doc, then I feel ok with that.

Never really liked Nixon either, but I voted for him considering the opposition.
I sort of see where your heart is, but do some research regarding how your “little extra” taxes is actually spent. Anything that goes to assist those in need is so filtered through government bureaucrats that usually less that thirty percent ever makes it to the needy. If you think being person of the year twice puts you in the same club as Stalin, then add Reagan, W, Nixon and Eisenhower to that club. Of course, no one is as great as FDR. He was Person of the Year 3 times (’32, ’34, ’41)!

Oh, I think you forgot to mention that he is in the process of dismantling the greatest and most productive health care system in the world and replacing it with a USSR style system with 50 bed wards and 2 nurses on duty. He is driving the most competent doctors offshore and soon we will have to go to the Bahamas, Belieze or other countries to obtain the level of competency which we now have in the medical field. He is also in the process of destroying the healthcare insurance industry also.
