Austin Restaurant Closes Amid Furor Over Owner’s Outrageous Comments About Sandy Hook Victims
Editor’s note: This post contains strong language that may be offensive to some readers.
β
Just hours after the tragic shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn. on Friday, Austin business owner Eddie Nimibutr wrote on his personal Facebook page that he didn’t “care if a bunch of white kids got killed.”
The resulting backlash was both swift and severe. On Monday, Nimibutr’s restaurant, Thai Noodle House, was forced to close its doors and turn off its lights, KEYE-TV reported. Only time will tell if the close is permanent, but the owner said the restaurant will stay closed for the time being for fear retaliation against him and his employees.
After initially refusing to apologize and telling those who disagreed with him they didn’t have to eat at his restaurant, Nimibutr provided an apology of sorts to KEYE-TV, but he did not completely take back his statement.
“[It] was a bad response, I shouldnβt have said it in those words,β said Nimibutr.Β “Looking back at it, it was better to say something than to be silent.”
In case you missed it, this is the portion of Nimibutr’s Facebook post that landed him in hot water:
βI donβt care if a bunch of white kids got killed. F**k Post-Racial bullsh*t. When kids from minority groups get shot, nobody cares. When Israel launched missiles at the school on Gaza, everybody was too busy jerking off. Why should i care about people who dont give a damn about me?β
His offensive post quickly went viral and was picked up by local and national media. Now he says he is “shocked” and “a little bit scared too.” Nimibutr claims he has been receiving death threats and people have been driving by his home and business.
βI do apologize, because maybe it was a little insensitive to write something like that, right that day the day of the shooting,” he told KEYE-TV.
But the restaurant owner says he just wanted to shine light on violence around the world and mental health issues.
βNothing is being done, I mean were talking about gun laws, you know, Congress is going to do this, Congress is going to do that,β he said.
A Facebook page calling for a boycott of the restaurant has since been created, with hundreds people demanding an apology.

Posted on December 19, 2012 at 5:08pmThe bible says, “man will give account of every idle word he speaks”. This guy is having to pay and give account very severely. That is why it is wise to keep your mouth shut if you don’t know what you are talking about and don’t understand what truth is. An even man out of the evil abundance of his heart brings forth evil things. His evil tongue reaped bad consequences. He reaped what he sowed.

Ditto Head said, “Heβll be out of business by this time next year.” Good call.
But most of the posts were like doubletap (that username is sure cutesy): “He will get plenty of business, all dark skinned,” and “Not in Austin, his business will triple with all the America hating hippies that live there.” Another poster, Not A Crazy (sure, as if) says, “This guy is just another one of those open-minded loving leftist… I will never forget he is a leftist and I will never darken the door of his worthless establishment.”
UT has a large, diverse student body, and is probably has one of the most liberal, smart, diverse and educated concentrations of people in the US. And based on Facebook of a nearby restaurant owner (who is not a part of the UT system), you say liberals are a bunch of bigots. I’d say that’s over generalization. In fact, given that the restaurant closed due to the general outrage at the owner’s raciest comments, I’d say that you’re confused about liberalism. Not confused really, but projecting your idea that liberal are super-bigots, and that you are ever so tolerant.
Sorry, the majority of Americans don’t view you that way. But that’s just a perception right?

If you say something liberal and still want to be part of the party, you have to check your status & color. This guy in Austin was Asian not black or Hispanic. You say that you can’t understand what I write. Then you hit the nail on the head of one of my 2 points of the last post.
Yes Asians are not as supported as much as Black or Hispanics. There are caps for Asian in the state of California for college admissions. Just like there is a pecking order for unions there is one for minorities. And the left implicitly shows us what that pecking order is by their actions.
(The real question is when Hispanic clout grows how will the racist black civil rights leader view it? You can’t practice racial spoils politics & have a happy ending.}
If Edward Nimibutr had just used the mantra that he meant something similar to the liberal talking point of “an amber alert for a white kid gets more news play than an amber alert for a black kid” & it upsets him, then he would have been safe. But he didn’t & the left had to toss him overboard.

I would add, that there were more children killed by partial birth abortion this year, than in this horrible massacre in CT, and the media and our nation could care less. These children will never have the chance to be hugged by a loving parent, or make it to kindergarten, and our politicians call this a “right”, while they ignorantly attempt to remove our legitimate rights under the second amendment.

Posted on December 19, 2012 at 4:47pmAhhh beautiful country we live in. You have the right indeed to make such an insensitive, ignorant, callous remark. And guess what citizens have the right to choose not to frequent your establishment. But hey look on the bright side, you can get in line for some Obama bucs, and stamps MORON!

Funny, I’ve noticed your comments and imagined you might be a quilter as well! Not exactly sure why, but maybe because you put the pieces together well!

Posted on December 19, 2012 at 4:43pmThat creep was more than a little insensitive in his comments. I wonder if he really has had death threats or if that was just a lie to make others sound as bad as he is or if is he trying to get some sympathy.
I’m sorry his employees lost their jobs. Him losing his…..not at all.

And that is what closed it .. not any threats .. people would not support this moron’s business.
