Boy Refuses to Go to School — So Mich. Mom Sprays Him With Mace

Jackson, Michigan Mother Sprays 16 year old Son With Mace Over School Argument

(Image: Shutterstock.com)

Parents can go to extreme measures to get their kids out of bed and out the door to make it to school on time. One Michigan mom though had a tough time getting her teen son to agree to going to school — so she sprayed him with mace when he refused.

According to MLive.com, the Jackson mother sprayed the 16-year-old when he was trying to get away on his bicycle because she thought he was going to attack her after they had an argument about him going to school. The teen though told police, who responded to a complaint, that he was trying to get away.

Jackson Police Deputy Chief John Holda told MLive no one was injured or arrested.

It is not known if the teen ended up going to school that day.

In some jurisdictions parents can be jailed if their children do not go to school. I say good for her. A stun gun shock would have been preferable as the effects of the mace (or pepper spray) might make it difficult for him to see clearly during the first few classes of the day.

I’m not too sure that I would use mace on a kid, but I do like her attitude. I would think a good slap across the buttocks would work a lot better, with a 2×4!

They watch too much Jerry Springer – the new Brady Bunch. There just may be a reason why the kid doesn’t respect his Mother, she seems to have screws loose and doesn’t know how to simply communicate. Perhaps they should sit normally in the morning and have a pancake breakfast together over conversation not involving weapons. She probably has been having him all his life eat the free breakfast at school by the government. Not doing her “Mom” job. Dad was probably some lay at the park. If you actually want to use mace to protect yourself – the very very very best out there is BEAR REPELLANT. It’s a huge can like a fire extinguisher with the almost same effects but on a much more massive scale!!! Except the Mother should not have used it on her kid.

Do you actually believe what you wrote? If you think you can just calmly sit and have a civilized conversation with an unruly violent teenager then you are as dilusional as Obama about the world we actually live in. No one really knows what went on here. If the teen was violent toward the mother then he deserved it and probably should have gotten more than that. like a good old fashioned ass whipping with a limb from the nearest tree. But if the mother is a sorry piece of crap that abuses her kids then she needs to spend a little time in jail. It all depends on the situation and what really happened. No one can really tell just from this article.

How shocking, an obstinate high school kid who didn’t want to go to school. The mother is a lunatic for macing her own kid…for acting like a kid. If the kid was trying to get away, how could be attacking the mom. Mom = long jail period.

By the way, is the child afraid? Did he hear things from other kids? Given the amount of media play of the recent school shooting, I would think many school kids all over are possibly traumatized and in fear! Mom’s a monster!

I showed up bright and early at my son’s school on Monday to withdraw him to homeschool him. While she was doing the paper work, an ambulance showed up. I know better than to ask, but I kept my eyes and ears open. It was apparently just a bump on the head of a child and they called first responders to make sure there was no serious injury. But, while they were getting ready to leave, a girl about 4th grade, looked out the front windows and commented, “That makes me very scared.” The receptionist just told her to go to class, no explanation at all. I said to her, “It’s ok or they wouldn’t be leaving.” Do you think it’s possible after CT that he was afraid of some of the kids he knows and thinks something like that would be possible?

if he’d have had his butt spanked and been educated well in his formative years, he’d know to get his butt out of bed on school days. My son was learning disabled, and had lots of problems in school, but I told him, he’d finish high school if I had to take him everyday till he was 30, and when I got no help from the school authorities with his classes to make sure he was covered to graduate, I told them the same thing. He graduated with his class at almost 18, his birthday in June. He went to Vo-Tech the next year, and graduated with honors. Never missed a day of school in high school OR Vo-Tech and he was the only one with perfect attendance. He is 43 now and has worked since he was 14 years old..playing music and at a regular welding job..also paint and body..Train them and lay down the rules as children, and they will not stray far from the teachings. Back up your rules with action. Oh and I’ll bet he never had over 3 spankings in his life after age 3 when he got his hands slapped for getting into things. Never had to.

A mother who forces her child too attend a public school, especially if she uses mace in order to force that child too obey should be arrested for child abuse. Maybe the teachers union had a political rally or demonstration planned for that day, and he did not wish too participate.

I must admit, my first question is, what is wrong? Why is he so adamant about not going? Boredom? Fear? Is he a night person being forced into a day schedule? (common in the teen years) Frustration in a particular subject?
There are solutions to ALL of those problems. Which DON’T involve MACE!

Now…I am not above using some creative means of moving a sluggish kiddo. I have been known to keep a bowl of marbles in the freezer for just such an occasion. But this sounds like things are out of hand and communication needs to happen on both sides…

      MOID = Mace Owners Identification

We also need a 5 day waiting period to pick up mace after you purchase it.

Plus, the FBI needs a database of everyone who has purchased mace.
