Home Depot Co-Founder: ‘Raise My Taxes, Go Right Ahead’ – ‘You Get Nothing’ Out of it
[Editor’s note: The following is a cross post by Justin Menza that originally appeared on CNBC.com]:
Congress should raise taxes on the wealthy to get the issue off the table but it won’t be enough to fix the country’s fiscal problems, Ken Langone, Home Depot co-founder, told CNBC on Tuesday.
“I happen to think the real issue is entitlements,” Langone said in a “Closing Bell” interview. “We need to get the issue of taxes off the table.”
He said Speaker John Boehner’s “Plan B” to extend the Bush tax cuts for those making up to $1 million sounds perfect because it gets the tax issue off the table and puts the focus on spending and entitlements.
“People making $1 million a year are not going to do anything different if they pay more taxes,” Langone said.
“Raise my taxes, go right ahead,” the Invemed Associates chairman, said. “Understand something you get nothing, effectively nothing, out of going after the heavyweights.”
But Republican Senator Rand Paul from Kentucky pushed back against calls for higher taxes.
“I really think in the end, as Republicans, we need to stand for what we’ve always stood for which is you stimulate the economy by leaving more money in the private sector,” he said.
Like Langone, Paul sees opportunity to cut back on military spending and means test Social Security and Medicare in order to help fix the country’s fiscal problems.
But Rand said, “The leading Democrats in the Senate have said Social Security is not broken. They won’t look at the age and they won’t means test because they think those programs are not broken.”

The point is pretty apparent. The Sycophant media has given Obama the bully pulpit & he is using ir. He is dead wrong about the numbers, but he has the EMO appeal.
So raise the taxes. It gets that issue off the table & airwaves. Then we look at the #s & see that we still have a spending problem. Hopefully at that point it will be obvious to 70& of America then.

And Obama was right in the mix sitting in a congress that was controlled by Dems when the excessive spending started and as President he hasn’t done anything at all to fix it. In fact there hasn’t been an approved budget since he took office. Oh and when he had complete control the first two years of office he did nothing to fix the economy. All he and his cohorts in crime did was illegally shove obama care down our throats against the will of the people. What else has Obama done on our dime…Golf, vacation, party like a college idiot at the white house, aid and abed our enemy the muslim brotherhood, let a U.S. ambassador get murdered, illegally send arms into Mexico to fabricate a reason to violate our second amendment rights, refused to call terrorist acts what they were, instead choosing to call them work place violence,(Fort Hood), insulted all of our allies, aided and abedded terrorists in the overthrow of Egypt and Lybia, ignored the victims of hurricane Sandy except for his brief campaign stop with Chris (really a progressive) Christie, used our tax dollars to bail out companies that have since failed, took over two of our three major automobile manufacturers…and that was just his first term. What do you think he will do in his second term you idiots gave him. Fix everything he’s broken?

You forget, of course, that before the economy collapsed (thanks to Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae, two government agencies) it boomed – the Dow reached 13,000 for the first time in history, and unemployment was less than 4%. So, what did Obama do? He created a “new normal” for unemployment of 8.5%. He insists that the only way to fund his credit card is to raise taxes on the people left producing. The people with the means to do so will be leaving the country, which means of course the additional tax burden WILL fall on the wage slaves. This is why Obama’s slogan was “Forward” – he wants you to bend over, grease up and take it.

The progressive movement set them up to not have to pay any federal income taxes, so they have no skin in the game and therefore don’t need to care about the federal debt since they don’t have to make payments on. It’s unsustainable and unfortunately unstoppable until the fiscal collapse we all see coming. It now appears to be a game of “who can live better now” while we can.

Answer: Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid. And who exploded spending upon entering office? Why is it that Bush’s WORST deficit was $460 billion (2008, Pelosi/Reid control spending) and Obama’s BEST was $1.1 TRILLION? How could deficits be the “fault” of the Bush tax cuts when reversing them will only reduce the deficit by about 10%?

Posted on December 20, 2012 at 1:58pmThe problems the repubs have right now is they have no principles that they think are worth fighting for. If raising taxes is a great idea, let it go up for everyone, then the economy should really boom, right? Langone apparently hasn’t paid attention to the last 4 years. Does he really think that agreeing to raise taxes will take it off the table? We’ve already seen the stimulus be a total failure. Is it off the table because it didn’t work? Of course not! There just wasn’t enough of it! Same for taxes. It won’t work and the dems will claim that there wasn’t enough taken.
I get a boot out of discussions about whether Obamacare can be stopped. Of course it can be. But, there is no one willing to stand up and do it. The repubs think that if the agree with the dems, but just not as much, then they are somehow being responsible. BS! Controlling the House, they have the power to set the agenda. But, fear of being called names by the left media is their biggest concern. They should have learned from Bush. Even though Bush went along with the dems on most everything, it didn’t stop him from being vilified by the dems and the media.
What the repubs failed to understand is that they lost, not because they stood up to Obama, but because they didn’t stand up to him. They rolled over every single time. If you don’t have principles, then it is difficult to fake it.

Posted on December 20, 2012 at 12:47amThat’s because the Republicans and Democrats get their campaign funds from the same sources. The richest people in the world managed by George Soros, he works for the Fabian Society that is funded by money from the Rothchilds of England. In the 40′s and 50′s they found a poor Jew named Soros and sent him to the London School of Economics their funding was then given him and he created the Quantum fund. Investors in the Quantum fund have been the Queen of England, G.H.W. Bush, William Clinton, G.W. Bush and recently Al Gore, Leon Panetta and Barack Obama. Its why Soros decided to change his fund from public to private because the Dodd/Frank Investment Laws required Hedge funds to reveal their investor list. He financed the senators that created the law and now they are all fleeing a sinking ship most of the senators that were useful in the destruction of the USA are now exiting the Congress in droves, but they need Barack to stay and make sure that the fuse stays lit for the financial bomb that is set to go off.

How did he do that you ask? By granting Interpol agents full diplomatic immunity thereby allowing them to search/raid your house without a warrant and then kidnap (arrest and extradite) you to a foreign country without any regards to US law on the subject. With full diplomatic immunity, they can kick in your door, shoot everyone in the house, steal the entire contents and whisk any survivors off to Belgium to face trial without ANY risk of criminal or civil legal action. I would say that that is denying people their Constitutional rights, though you probably won’t because he’s your guy. As first revealed on December 16, President Bush issued a secret presidential order shortly after the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks that authorized the National Security Agency (NSA) to eavesdrop on international phone and email communications that originate from or are received within the United States, and to do so without the court approval normally required under the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA). Facing increasing scrutiny, the Bush administration and its conservative allies in the media have defended the secret spying operation with false and misleading claims that have subsequently been reported without challenge across the media..

The Republicans should absolutely vote present on any and every bill that comes up. But make no mistake, they will blame someone else. They’ve been blaming someone else for a long damn time. FDR didn’t make the Great Depression last longer than it should have. Nope, that happened because we cut govt spending just as the economy was improving (that is their argument).
They will blame the conservatives until the conservatives go completely hands off. And even after that, it’s going to take a few years of stagnant growth before they’re kicked out. I’m convinced that they won’t get kicked out until the checks stop flowing to the leaches. Once the checks stop flowing, those people won’t know what to do and then we’ll be able to kick the liberal/progressives/socialists out of office.

You might want to look at the reasons Time made Obama ‘Man if the Year’.
It has something to do with the ‘new American dynamic’ which Obama knows how to use. It is the fruition of decades of Progressive thought – the ‘low information voter’ (read ‘useful idiots’).
Obama succeeded in getting upwards of 15% of the voters who are disinterested in politics mobilized to vote for him.
Your stat may have been accurate in days past, but the educated class has figured out a way to get the idiots to vote.
Most Democrats today believe they can do nothing without cradle to grave government assistance.

Remember that education these days is owned, run, and designed by Progressive liberals. This means that statistically speaking, there is a direct positive correlation between amount of education and how far left one leans. Education vs liberalist thought is generationally dependent; that is, those who went thru k-12, say in the 50′s-60′s, received mostly an education, those who began k-12 since the 70′s have received a increasing amount of socio-political indoctrination compared to education across generations. The current generation going thru k-12 are learning little but being indoctrinated a-plenty. With the government getting into pre-schooling, the indoctrination level is amplified many-fold…the younger they get ‘em the faster they are “properly” socialized. Home schooling or picking a good private school is the only defense.

Posted on December 19, 2012 at 7:38pmExactly right Tri Ox. Obama needs to greatly expand the “proletariat” (his voter base) to enhance the socialist nature of the US. The more lower class there are, the more dependence on government and entitlements. That’s probably the primary characteristic of Marxism. If there is no whining lower class that is dependent upon government handouts, there is no reason for Marxism to exist. That is the Marxist fan club. It’s all in the Manifesto in black and white. He has to transform the middle class into a much larger lower class to accomplish his mission.

I actually know of someone who thinks that is a good thing because now instead of 20 employees, there are 25…and that’s good for the unemployment numbers!!
True story.

The 40 hour work week was created in the last Depression so they could lower the official number. This time is is mostly service jobs being cut, so it’s only poor workers who are going to be screwed. At least FDR employed poor people in ‘make work’ jobs.

Posted on December 19, 2012 at 7:35pmMy sons have their own construction company and they had to downsize so they could stay under Obamas 25 employee mandate for healthcare. My sons pay $7,000 a month in Workmans comp and that takes care of their on job injurys. Since my sons are non union they have more work than they can handel and have to turn down some jobs. When my sons bid a job the folks around here know that that is all they will pay and won’t have to worry about cost overruns or overtime. My sons pay overtime after 8 hrs. and double on Sunday or Holidays.

Posted on December 19, 2012 at 7:12pmI got a bill from the IRS for $400,000 the other day. As an owner of several businesses, a patriot, a technically disabled woman, an employer and a very conservative tax filer (no weird deductions here) I was truly disgusted. I am so sick of this government. Thanks IRS for auditing me before Christmas sending me a ludacris bill and expecting me to pay for the united states to waste my money. Maybe I should just go on disability close my various businesses fire my employees and mooch off of the rest of society. My life would be so much easier. Cant wait until they further screw me for making money and employing many people who we love and care for.

Posted on December 19, 2012 at 8:40pmFor whom the bell tolls, bother. The Govmt already knows that folks making over 250k can hire lawyers and create tax havens for themselves but then they will come back and say that now they have to lower that number down to 100k and then 75k and then it will have to cover everyone because they were unable to generate enough “revenue” to cover the bills and the rapidly expanding numbers of people receiving govmt handouts. they are purposefully creating a crisis that they we then jump in and solve by abrogating the constitution and capitalism and establishing socialism for all…except themselves and their progeny of course because some animals are more equal than others.

Of course Turbo Timmy blamed his on Turbo Tax. Then it was found out Charlie Rangle owed almost $800,000 on his foreign condoes and his slums in DC. Old Nancy couldn’t get that plug back in fast enough. Of course The Rev. al Sharpton oews 1.2 million and Warren Buffit owes over 1 Billion. We find out Lindsey Lohan and bunch more movie stars owe. We need to fire the IRS and hire all new folks that are hungrey to make a living instead od living on unemployment.

Posted on December 19, 2012 at 6:41pmthat guy is an idiot ………….topic is WAY over his head
money in the private sector creates wealth, and growth
money in the government does not it creates absolutely nothing for production and economic growth it adds no value to national gdp it merely shuffles money from a to b , after of course taking a bite out of it
example for the slow ones
100 $ goes to government ………80$ gets sent to lazy smuck a , 20 $ goes to facilitate transfer
100$ foes to private economy some guy uses it to build a product, then sells that product for 120$
private sector adds value government destroys value

Posted on December 19, 2012 at 6:59pmSS is thievery, writ large. The amount they take vs what they pay (and have done with it) is such a bad investment that nobody would do it unless it is compulsory. So guess what, it is. Your post seems to provide that people are participating in it like a 401K. They are not. People with guns extract that money from you and waste it on political gamesmanship.
If they gave me an option to give up any claim to what I’ve paid in lieu of future “contributions” I’d take it in a heartbeat. I wonder why they won’t let me opt out when giving them 20 years worth of contributions? You think because the money I paid in isn’t there? Hmmmmm.

Posted on December 20, 2012 at 12:02pmDemocrats have a natural resistance to means testing because it uncloaks the program and makes even the less well informed aware that it is a welfare program, thus damaging the popularity. With or without the cloak, the programs are welfare programs because they provide a benefit beyond what was put into them. This is because of longer life spans and the habit of congress to fear that an excess of funds means that there is no circulation of wealth. The masters of eco-sustainability are not able to apply the concept of sustainability to economics.
