NRA Sees Huge Spike in Membership After Sandy Hook Massacre; Numbers Said to ‘Dwarf Past Trends’

NRA Sees Huge Spike in Membership After Sandy Hook Massacre

Though it has remained largely silent since the horrific school shooting in Newtown, Conn. last week, the National Rifle Association has reportedly registered about 8,000 new members a day since the tragedy.

An NRA source tells Fox News that, based an internal memo prepared by the group’s membership division, the number of individual contributions to the NRA and the average amount given have spiked significantly in the time since the shooting.

“While this broadly aligns with trends seen after similar incidents in the past, the surge in membership this time is said to dwarf past trends,” Fox News reports.

The NRA in a statement on Tuesday said it would have a news conference to answer questions Friday, the one-week anniversary of the shootings.

“The National Rifle Association of America is made up of 4 million moms and dads, sons and daughters, and we were shocked, saddened and heartbroken by the news of the horrific and senseless murders in Newtown,” the statement said. “The NRA is prepared to offer meaningful contributions to help make sure this never happens again.”

“Out of respect for the families, and as a matter of common decency, we have given time for mourning, prayer and a full investigation of the facts before commenting.”

Additionally, Fox News, citing a source close to the situation, recently reported that the NRA would soon begin to “push back” against gun control activists.

Gun sales have also increased dramatically after the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre.

NRA was created after the civil war by the federal government, they supported the 1968 gun control act. Gun Owners of America would better represent a member. gunowners.org

The US government has had no control over the NRA in a very long time. Does Gun Owners of America have nearly 5 million members and a multi-billion dollar lobby in DC as well as th NRA-ILA? Why not join both and add your voice to the NRA as well as GOA?

Oh, and by the way, if the NRA supported the 1968 Gun Control Act, why did Senator Dodd, the one who drafted the act, have the FBI investigate the NRA for lobbying against it? Seems rather strange to me. I have heard that the NRA had some input on the act. I would hope so, for if you are to have something rammed down your throat, you might as well have some say in it.

Sorry, but the NRA did not actively support the 1968 Gun Control Act. American gun manufacturers actually supported it. This is the gist of that act:
      “1968
The Gun Control Act of 1968 – “…was enacted for the purpose of keeping firearms out of the hands of those not legally entitled to possess them because of age, criminal background, or incompetence.” — Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms The Act regulates imported guns, expands the gun-dealer licensing and record keeping requirements, and places specific limitations on the sale of handguns. The list of persons banned from buying guns is expanded to include persons convicted of any non-business related felony, persons found to be mentally incompetent, and users of illegal drugs.”
Yeah, there is a bit of the camel’s nose under the tent because this was written under the LBJ Admin, but this is the act that should have kept the firearms away from those like Adam Lanza, and James Holmes. I personally do find those parts agreeable. My father was a member of the NRA during this time. I think that it was later in the late ’70s that he became a Lifetime Member.

I back the notion of joining GOA & NRA.

For one giving the NRA members makes Congress fear them. Second giving them some money makes them last the withering fire longer.

That allows come up as a strategic reserve relatively unscathed.

One reason there are not more homicide by vars, is that a jihadi failed. He only hurt 9 people & the injuries were minor. If he had killed to 9 people we would see copycats.

Why is it that there were no reports of twitter feeds from people threatening to kill Obama if re-elected? How is it that there are all kinds of tweets from people wanting to kill Romney if elected, start riots and looting? How is it that there are tweets from people that want to kill the NRA members? A hunting technique used since ancient times is to push animals emotionally over the edge, then exploit the mistakes they make in the confused heat of their emotions, slaughtering them in the process.

Democrats are using this technique today by exploiting tender emotions over 20 brutally murdered small children. What an immoral syndicate they are. Willing to do absolutely anything to further their political agenda.

They know it’s their faults that no one could defend themselves every time this happens. Of course p-bo has armed guards at all times, so does biden. But they don’t trust us, noooo only we are supposed to trust who THEY say we should trust… We just want our kids to be safe when we send them on that bus, just like any other parent. How many gun-wielding killers honestly buy their murder weapon from a store? Did anyone even hear about the school knife-murderer in China the same day as sandy hook? How the hell would banning guns have stopped that guy?! Does that not bother you cause it was 3 less dead?!?! There can’t be world peace Barry, at a certain point you just have to accept life isn’t fair and grow up. Just so you know guys, if they ban guns completely a serial killer can break in your house with an illegal gun and hold you hostage doing God knows what to you. If you even GET to the phone in time, you will have to wait and pray that the killer gives himself up cause the cops aren’t supermen or anything. They might be told by higher-ups to wait outside for 3 and a half hours like Columbine. Is that really what you want? Putting your hope for survival solely on some other guys with guns that might not even be able to save your children? Just think it over, that’s all that could come out of losing the second amendment entirely.

When I was a child we all (children) looked to both the police and our parents to protect us. Generally, they both did a good job.

That’s all gone by the wayside. The police are nothing more than record-takers. Many parents are simply landlords. Certainly no other government group can be trusted.

So, then, we must recognize that we are on our own and must protect ourselves. And more than drug dealers, drug addicts, violent or property criminals, or common crooks …. we most need to protect ourselves from a run-amok federal government.

The only thing people need to be defended against is people with guns. That would be you. Dress it up and tie a pretty bow around it and try and ease your soul but it still comes out the same. It’s you freaks that we to be protected from. Hope your bunker is ready because the majority is against you.

@Bava… please (honestly) please explain something for me… Murder is against the law, grand theft auto of your mothers car is against the law, walking past the “gun free zone” with a firearm is against the law So why the hell do you think writing more laws will acomplish a dam thing? Criminals by name break laws…. writing more gun laws ONLY effects honest people, criminals could care less (actually they are for more gun laws cuz then their victoms are easier pray) about gun laws just like they can care less abt drug laws murder laws sexual assualt laws etc etc etc

BAVA, why don’t you ask England how their gun ban thing worked for them? I’ll tell you anyway – a 300% increase in violent crime, that’s how. Australia is in the same boat, and a school shooting was the cause that led to that ban. EVERYWHERE there are legal gun owners and especially a concealed carry permit system, violent crime rates drop drastically. Those are facts. The only thing you become when you give up a gun is a victim. Do me a favor, wear an arm brassard declaring you are unarmed and post a sign to that affect in your yard and see how it works out.

NOT ONE INVESTIGATED REPORTER HAS ASKED.ABOUT THE VIDEO FOOTAGE!ck it.There is a secret agency recruiting,, lonely and distubed young men..He talks them into a specail plan. or operation.to make them feel important.and part of something big and good. this agent is not includeing all the details.. he coaches them.. intimadates them.. then forces them to go on the mission with him.. the specail agent kills everyone.. and then kills the student he recruited and was made by force to go along with him… leaving nothing but the weapons. he escapes ..makeing it look like a suicide by a lonewofe. this explains wearing the mask part to.. and explains no video footage.. not a metion.. of cameras because ..it will show more than one shooter! and the real killer. a special shooter even military background type marksman-cia agent??? TheEnd..

Are you suggesting a grassy knoll type coverup? Hummmm! Something to think about. Government investigations are the same thing as having Al Capone investigate the Mafia.

2 things come to mind. First, witnesses in Colorado said there were two shooters.
Second, we know everyone has video cameras, nowadays. I’ve never seen video from either shooting.

At the time of the shooting, the cops caught a guy in the woods wearing camo trousers and dark jacket. They led him out in cuffs and put him into the FRONT SEAT of the cop car. Witnesses saw this and its on tape. Who is this guy, why was he there, whats his name and why was he in the woods near the school. Since initial reports of this, the propaganda machine is silent.

They still have said nothing on the guy they picked up in the woods by the school. It would account for the initial reports that the Bushmaster was found in the car and not the school.

      @SUBIC

Exactly what I was thinking! Initial reports talks about another man but reports nothing about; only platering the face of this Adam kid all over the place.

Note to Blaze: This may be a great opportunity for your journalist team to go off and investigate and be ahead of the news cycle. I would be very interested in reading more about this angle. Anyone arrested should be a point of discussion given the tragedy and national impact.

Guns act as “force equalizers” for all men, women, and children enabling defense from stronger, more able violent attackers that would otherwise not be possible.

For recent examples of defensive firearm use not typically reported in the national media check out:
