NRA Sees Huge Spike in Membership After Sandy Hook Massacre; Numbers Said to ‘Dwarf Past Trends’

Though it has remained largely silent since the horrific school shooting in Newtown, Conn. last week, the National Rifle Association has reportedly registered about 8,000 new members a day since the tragedy.
An NRA source tells Fox News that, based an internal memo prepared by the group’s membership division, the number of individual contributions to the NRA and the average amount given have spiked significantly in the time since the shooting.
“While this broadly aligns with trends seen after similar incidents in the past, the surge in membership this time is said to dwarf past trends,” Fox News reports.
The NRA in a statement on Tuesday said it would have a news conference to answer questions Friday, the one-week anniversary of the shootings.
“The National Rifle Association of America is made up of 4 million moms and dads, sons and daughters, and we were shocked, saddened and heartbroken by the news of the horrific and senseless murders in Newtown,” the statement said. “The NRA is prepared to offer meaningful contributions to help make sure this never happens again.”
“Out of respect for the families, and as a matter of common decency, we have given time for mourning, prayer and a full investigation of the facts before commenting.”
Additionally, Fox News, citing a source close to the situation, recently reported that the NRA would soon begin to “push back” against gun control activists.
Gun sales have also increased dramatically after the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre.
In CONTROL, Glenn Beck presents a passionate, fact-based case for guns that reveals why gun control isn’t really about controlling guns at all; it’s about controlling us. Posted on December 20, 2012 at 5:16amOh, and by the way, if the NRA supported the 1968 Gun Control Act, why did Senator Dodd, the one who drafted the act, have the FBI investigate the NRA for lobbying against it? Seems rather strange to me. I have heard that the NRA had some input on the act. I would hope so, for if you are to have something rammed down your throat, you might as well have some say in it.

Posted on December 20, 2012 at 8:43amSorry, but the NRA did not actively support the 1968 Gun Control Act. American gun manufacturers actually supported it. This is the gist of that act:
“1968
The Gun Control Act of 1968 – “…was enacted for the purpose of keeping firearms out of the hands of those not legally entitled to possess them because of age, criminal background, or incompetence.” — Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms The Act regulates imported guns, expands the gun-dealer licensing and record keeping requirements, and places specific limitations on the sale of handguns. The list of persons banned from buying guns is expanded to include persons convicted of any non-business related felony, persons found to be mentally incompetent, and users of illegal drugs.”
Yeah, there is a bit of the camel’s nose under the tent because this was written under the LBJ Admin, but this is the act that should have kept the firearms away from those like Adam Lanza, and James Holmes. I personally do find those parts agreeable. My father was a member of the NRA during this time. I think that it was later in the late ’70s that he became a Lifetime Member.

How many gun-wielding killers honestly buy their murder weapon from a store? Did anyone even hear about the school knife-murderer in China the same day as sandy hook? How the hell would banning guns have stopped that guy?! Does that not bother you cause it was 3 less dead?!?! There can’t be world peace Barry, at a certain point you just have to accept life isn’t fair and grow up. Just so you know guys, if they ban guns completely a serial killer can break in your house with an illegal gun and hold you hostage doing God knows what to you. If you even GET to the phone in time, you will have to wait and pray that the killer gives himself up cause the cops aren’t supermen or anything. They might be told by higher-ups to wait outside for 3 and a half hours like Columbine. Is that really what you want? Putting your hope for survival solely on some other guys with guns that might not even be able to save your children? Just think it over, that’s all that could come out of losing the second amendment entirely.

So, then, we must recognize that we are on our own and must protect ourselves. And more than drug dealers, drug addicts, violent or property criminals, or common crooks …. we most need to protect ourselves from a run-amok federal government.

EVERYWHERE there are legal gun owners and especially a concealed carry permit system, violent crime rates drop drastically. Those are facts.
