‘You Are a Dangerous Man…and You Shame Your Country’: CNN Anchor Lashes Out at Gun Lobby Director
CNN’s Piers Morgan on Tuesday went head-to-head with the executive director of a pro-gun organization, at one point calling him a “dangerous man” who brings “shame” to his country in the wake of the Newtown massacre.
Larry Pratt, head of Gun Owners of America, started off his appearance on “Piers Morgan Tonight” by saying America needs to “ban gun control laws that keep people from being able to protect themselves.”
“The problem is not going to go away if we ban this or that gun,” Pratt said. “We’ve tried that, that doesn’t work. Doesn’t even work in England. You have mass murders there all over Europe, there have been mass murderers.”
Morgan said Pratt was talking “complete and utter nonsense” and said the gun murder rates in Britain, Germany or Australia are far lower than that in the U.S. — “75 against 12,000 in Australia.”
Pratt conceded that the gun murder rate in those countries is indeed lower than the U.S., but that the violent crime rate is higher.
“America is not the Wild West that you are depicting. We only have the problems in our cities, and unhappily, in our schools where people like you have been able to get laws put on the books that keep people from being able to defend themselves,” he said. “I honestly don’t understand why you would rather have people be victims of a crime than be able to defend themselves. It’s incomprehensible.”
“You’re an unbelievably stupid man, aren’t you?” Morgan asked.
Pratt shot back that Morgan was being “morally obtuse,” adding: “You seem to prefer being a victim to being able to prevail over the criminal element. And I don’t know why you want to be the criminal’s friend.”
“What a ridiculous argument. You have absolutely no coherent argument whatsoever,” Morgan said. “You don’t give a damn, do you, about the gun murder rate in America? You don’t actually care. All you care about — ”
Pratt cut in that Morgan was ignoring the facts.
“What we do know is that when you go to an area of the United States where guns are freely available, readily able to be carried legally, there you find our lowest murder rates, lower than the murder rates in Europe. You go to our cities where we have cracked down on guns, and that’s where criminals have a field day,” he said.
Morgan later said he wasn’t arguing about Americans’ rights to defend themselves in the home, but that there is “no use and no justification for these AR-15-type assault weapons.”
“There are these assault weapons which have been used now in movie theaters, in shopping malls, in elementary schools to murder many, many Americans,” he said. “Your only answer, Mr. Pratt, to people that want to get rid of both the magazines and these assault weapons, if I’m not mistaken is to let everybody else have similar weapons. Is that the solution to America’s gun murder problem?
Pratt said Morgan was “talking against self-defense” and “against people being able to protect themselves.”
“Post what happened at Sandy Hook,” Morgan said. “Your answer to this problem of repeated use of this weapon with these high-capacity magazines is to continue letting Americans buy them with impunity, and to not concern yourself with these mass shootings, is that right?”
“The Second Amendment means what it says, and meanwhile, you want to continue laws against self-defense,” Pratt said. “Laws that prohibit self-defense. Laws that prohibit teachers and other faculty, other members of the administration in schools from being able to defend themselves if they have a concealed carry permit. The laws prohibit them right now. We have been lobbying against those laws since they were put on. We will continue to do so, pointing out that that is where the problem is. And for you to support them means that you’re really blind to the role that that plays in enabling murders to operate with impunity.”
Morgan responded that he knows “why sales of these weapons have been soaring in the last few days — it’s down to idiots like you.”
After Morgan thanked Pratt for coming on the show and prepared to go to commercial, Pratt thanked him for the “high-level argument…it’s really good.”
“You know what, you wouldn’t understand the meaning of the phrase high-level argument. You are a dangerous man espousing dangerous nonsense and you shame your country,” Morgan said.
CNN posted the entire segment on its website, minus the last few moments with Morgan’s “shame your country” remark. NewsBusters published an edited version that includes the final moments (scroll):

Somehow they choose to overlook historical data that proves when the right of citizens to keep and bear arms is taken away, tyrany, oppression and dictatorships normally follow close behind. People who want an unarmed society are the dangerous ones and possess a shameful mindset towards their country and fellow American citizens in wake of the latest shooting incident at Newtown, CT. It’s plain to see that if the teachers had been allowed their 2nd amendment rights to carry, there may have been far less deaths than there was. You communist, constitution hating liberals are, indirectly, as much to blame as the shooter for the deaths of these children. Gun control does not work, it never has and it never will…. blame the shooter, blame the guns, blame the NRA, blame the responsible and innocent gun owners if you wish… but facts bear it out and prove your liberal thinking and policies are pure stupidity in action and you’re getting people killed….

The muder rate in the USA is high due to the failure of our justice system and the (we feel so sorry for all the murders, rapist, and thieves) Libirals. We do not need new laws, we need enforcement of the laws in place. It is a shame that our government is to busy wasting time on making themselves feel good and rich. Posted on December 19, 2012 at 12:49pmAre some of you sheeple willing to lose a little more of your freedoms because of something a nut-job did 2 blocks, 2 miles, or 3,000 miles from where you live? Really? How were/are you implicated in the crime? Ah, you’re NOT implicated…then why allow yourself to be punished? I can see murder being a crime – if you murder someone you should be punished for it. But then why would you want to lose your 2nd Amend rights, or why would you wish the same upon your neighbor, or the stranger 3000 miles away? Does OWNING firearm implicate you in a crime, in anyway?
What if that train of thought were applied to say, something you DON’T have a constitutional “right” to, like owning a car? As many times as cars have been used to murder, or accessories after the fact, you would think that politicians would have us driving around on mopeds without trunks/cabooses, because of the “safety” issue – YOU’VE never murdered or killed someone with your car, either purposefully nor accidentally, but countless others have…where’s the car-control lobby? SOME folks need their cars for transportation but, we ALL need our right to self-defense as written in stone by our founders, for self-preservation.
I WILL NOT allow myself to be persecuted by gobblement for a crime I had nothing to do with, nor will I comply with “rules”, “regulations”, nor edicts from a communist wannabe=dictator nor his quasi-balled, pseudo-intelligent hand-puppet…

That must be a maddening itch that he can never scratch. All he can do is to try vainly to shame us.

The reality is that the Government was and is the criminal in may cases. The police by and large do a great job of showing up after the violent act and eventually catching the perp if he hasn’t already off himself. To prevent violence in schools we put up signs, ban anyone with a gun from campus, and have anti bullying classes.
Seems to me we should have schools look more like airports if you genuinely want to keep kids safe. But it really is not about safety now is it. We can pay a janitor 70k a year but God forbid we hire an off duty cop who carries a gun because it would harm children to see a gun….they cannot even draw a gun without getting suspended…so an actual gun at school…even on the hip of a police officer…will never happen. The first time these Connecticut kids saw a gun at school was right before they were shot with it. NONE of the bilge coming from the left is about keeping kids safe…it is about disarming Americans who obey the law, thus giving criminals access to more gun free zones.
If Democrats gave a flip about children they would stop murdering them before they were born.

Posted on December 19, 2012 at 12:25pmAfter the fall of France and the Dunkirk evacuation in 1940, Britain found itself short of arms for island defense. The Home Guard was forced to drill with canes, umbrellas, spears, pikes, and clubs. When citizens could find a gun, it was generally a sporting shotgun Γ ill suited for military use because of its short range and bulky ammunition.
Prime Minister Winston Churchill inspecting a No. 4 Enfield which the British adopted after Dunkirk, because the rifle could be mass produced.
British government advertisements in American newspapers and in magazines such as The American Rifleman begged Americans to “Send A Gun to Defend a British HomeΓBritish civilians, faced with threat of invasion. desperately need arms for the defense of their homes.” The ads pleaded for “Pistols, Rifles, Revolvers, Shotguns and Binoculars from American civilians who wish to answer the call and aid in defense of British homes.”
Pro-Allied organizations in the United States collected weapons; the National Rifle Association shipped 7,000 guns to Britain. Britain also purchased surplus World War I Enfield rifles from America’s Department of War.
Many posters are still availabe from collectors. Another example of Americans saving someones’ butt only to find it stuck back into our faces. Our good friends. Many like this jerk and I wish we would have known then what we know now and maybe we could have saved a lot of American lives.

You are saying that all of us that enjoy owning guns and shooting them for sport, hunting with them, and defending ourselves with them are all part of a culture that kills 12000 people a year in the U.S. First you are an idiot. second there would have to be 329 gun murders a day in the U.S. to add up to 12000 yearly gun related murders. I remember watching Katrina footage live on TV like it was yesterday. Throngs of armed
gangs roaming the streets looting and pillaging. ARMED resident homeowners standing guard
outside their homes to protect their property and their families.
Then the authorities came around going door to door attempting to confiscate privately
owned firearms from these citizens who were defending themselves —- meanwhile the
armed gangs were still on the rampage —- no one was trying to take their weapons. These
same “authorities” were P****** who wouldnt confront the lawbreakers.

My Dad was a WWII combat veteran who fought Hitler and saved European arse. He had a 22 hunting rifle and handgun. we knew where he kept it and where the bullets were. We never touched it. He told us he would give us the belt or a spanking if we did so. WE feared our Dad. He would follow through on punishing you. This is what is missing. Kids act up. Then they have no consequences. They get their dinner and dessert. They get put in a two minute “time out” corner and then they get their candy and video games and popcorn. There are no consequences so they don’t learn anything. If we acted up we went to our rooms without dinner. There were real consequences back then. Maybe if parents were stricter with their kids and when they said, “NO” they meant it we would have a more lawful society and we wouldn’t need to be having this discussion. Some AFrican American stand up comedian said, “white people you need to beat your kids” and I laughed cause I understood what he was saying. Soft on discipline equals chaos and crime.

Posted on December 20, 2012 at 10:12pmStates with Concealed Carry provisions, liberal gun ownership and possession laws as well as castle doctrine laws do have lower instances of violent crime. Where the left gets their stats is that they include, as does the AMA, suicides in with their “crime” stats because suicide is a crime.
Don’t believe it, look it up. Pretty well known stat, but the masses are too lazy to look things up.
Every pro-2nd Amendment person has to stop framing the argument with logic. The liberal left, the secular-progressive anti-gun nuts, the RINOs that just want to get along all need an emotional argument to put their brains in check.
The 2nd Amendment is just as important as the 1st Amendment and here is why:
If the right to own a firearm can be limited, so then can the right to freedom of speech.
Well NO they would say. (no, this isn’t the “fire” in a theater argument)
If Hitler were here today, in the United States, how many would fight for his right to speak his mind, to splatter his verbal (poop) all over our airwaves and print media? Just words. Just words.
It is EASY to defend rights when you agree with the free-display there-of. But how many Conservatives would fight for the right to put a crucifix in a jar of pi$$? Regunant? Yes. But free speech? Yes.
The left is run by emotion, use logic to illicit a different response and then see what happens.
