ATF Raids Gun Shop Where CT Shooter’s Mother Bought Gun Used in Massacre

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) raided the gun shop where Nancy Lanza, the mother of Newtown, Conn. shooter Adam Lanza, bought at least one of the guns used in last week’s massacre, WFSB-TV Hartford Bureau Chief Len Besthoff first reported on Twitter Thursday.

ATF, along with the East Windsor police, raided Riverview Gun Sales in Windsor, Conn., the Hartford Courant confirms. Police did not reveal the reason behind the raid on Thursday, however, officials said it was not prompted by a single incident. An official said that an ongoing investigation was accelerated by recent developments, though the official didn’t say what those developments entailed.

The Hartford Courant, citing “law enforcement sources,” reports that federal agents’ interest in the gun shop grew out of circumstances at the shop that are not related to Nancy Lanza’s purchase of firearms.

The sources said her guns appeared to have been legally purchased and registered properly.

Federal firearms inspectors were reportedly inspecting the business records of Riverview Gun Sales on Thursday night.

“ATF is currently involved in an enforcement operation in the East Windsor area,” ATF spokeswoman Debora A. Seifert said, but refused to provide any additional information.

Riverview Gun Sales is reportedly the same store where police believe a different man stole an “assault weapon” and was possibly planning to carry out an attack, WFSB-TV reports.

On Saturday, a South Windsor man — who had received a suspended prison sentence and two years probation in May for stealing a dozen rifles and shotguns from Riverview Sales — tried to steal a sniper rifle from the same store, police said.

Jordan Marsh, 26, pleaded guilty May 10 to a single count of stealing a firearm and received a suspended prison sentence and two years of probation. He initially faced 12 counts of stealing a firearm and other larceny charges.

According to East Windsor police, on Saturday, Marsh grabbed a Bushmaster .50-caliber rifle from Riverview Sales valued at $5,000 and ran from the store. When store employees confronted Marsh, he pulled a knife, then fled on foot. Police officers eventually caught and arrested him.

“Police said Riverview Gun Sales had no idea the AR-15 Marsh stole was missing. Management at the store didn’t know about 11 guns that Marsh had allegedly stolen last year until they were notified by detectives,” WFSB-TV reports.

Riverview Gun Sales has had inventory issues in the past. State police raided a Connecticut home in 2007 and reportedly found a number of stolen firearms belonging to the store.

East Windsor police Detective Matthew Carl previously told WFSB-TV that at one point, the “Riverview gun store was missing upwards of 30 plus guns.”

  In the four score that I have lived,This country does not resemble the nation that I knew grew up in.
  As the population increases government control over our lives will increase lock step with it.
  A hundred years from now with maybe 3 times our present population the Government will virtually
  Control everything that you do. Look at all heavily populated nation and the control they exert over the populaces.

  The ATF always have their little display at AZ Gun Shows. Ironically, a couple of the AZ shops they specifically told to sell weapons to straw buyers, or be shut down, are also there. The gun shops in question are above board, 100% legit places that were forced into this. The ATF does their best to provide good will and down-play the common belief that they are a puppet of the Administration focused on curtailing the rights of free-men. But the reality is, no-one trusts them.

The gun running to Mexico goes unpunished, the Benghazi screw up goes unpunished and Owebowma goes unpunished. Folks, I think we have reached a dictatorship with the facade of democracy.   Not sure what to make of inventory problems, but every shop should’ve been checking their records to see if they sold to Ms Lanza and if so, promptly had a paid lawyer waiting on site, because you know the Feds/gestapo are coming to drop the hammer on you.

  Well, I KNOW they want to grab all the guns, and certainly persecute anybody who sells them to us mere citizens, but REALLY now, isn’t conducting a raid AFTER the mass-murders kind of locking the born door after the horse has already run off. How STUPID is that?
  
  And does ANYBODY really believe they just “happened” to raid this very same shop where the Sandy Hook murder weapons were purchased on “another matter, unrelated to Sandy Hook?” Really? Anybody who believes THAT story must be r-e-e-e-ally STUPID.
  
  This is just another Obama stunt to bolster his position that all guns are EVIL, and anybody who sells them should be shut down. I”m sure the ATF will produce some kind of BS charges about guns being sold without background checks, etc. Even though it is fine with ODUMBER if his Attorney General scatters ASSAULT WEAPONS all over Mexico and the SW US, resulting in untold Mexican deaths and the deaths of several Americans. (Remember a little thing called Fast and Furious? Good, because the worthless media sure don’t remember it, or TALK about it).
  
  Plus, it doesn’t hurt if it distracts the sheeple long enough for him to run some kind of gun control legislation through the Senate, with the help of his pal, Whorehouse Harry Reid. Or maybe he could just issue an executive order, since that seems to be what he does nowadays, instead of worrying about things like the Balance of Powers or the Constitution, for that matter.

  IF this gun shop truly is having troubles keeping straight there inventory on their guns then by all means investigate and get to the bottom of it. I don’t know how one store can be missing 30 plus guns and not know about it.

  I agree I do not trust the ATF at all, sounds like a bunch of trumped up charges and excuses. BO isn’t going to be happy until he gets most of the guns or there is a bunch of incidents like Ruby Ridge and were all targeted shot and lied about in the media.

  That story is a lie. There is no way on this earth that a FFL could have that many firearms missing and not know about it. Even if ignore all of the FFL tracking requirements under fed law the total value of those firearms would have been very noticeable.

  There will be a push for a national gun registration for all firearms. This will get every firearm on the books. The rest will be considered illegal arms. It will make it easier for them when they change the law and come to collect all of your firearms or arrest you for having unregistered arms.

  If the police discover someone stole several packs of child’s shirts, the store manager will get arrested. If an gun store employee whose responsible for inventory control steals some of the merchandise, the owner is responsible but only if its about guns. Many gun stores have to hire police officers to stay in business and this creates a situation where stings like this one can be set up and cashed in on whenever the government wants one.

  Agreed …. something appears wrong. I don’t have the exact details, but I do recall the news first reporting that a 2nd person hiding in the woods had been arrested as well … who was this? Why do we not hear any more about it? Then, I started thinking about the Colorado theater shooting and initial reports said there was a 2nd person involved as well … then nothing but crickets on that 2nd person.
  
  Now, if I remember correctly, if you have a manchurian candidate, you always have a backup person there in case something goes wrong… possible? Hard to say, but the more I think about many of these shootings and the more I research CIA and mind-control, the more I have my doubts that these shootings are just random happenings.

  That would be incorrect. But, there is an argument to be made that they seemed to refer to the stolen .50 cal as an AR-15. Bushmaster has been making a .50 cal for quite a while… 3 years that I am aware of, and possibly longer.

  @338Lapua, although I guess it is true that it isn’t a rifle that is used by snipers in the military, it has much the same specs as the Barrett, which is. With proper tuning, I would say that it would be a formidable sniper rifle, and if you do a simple search for “bushmaster ba50 sniper rifle”, you will find that many feel the same way.   Yes the 50 cal bmg is a bushmaster but not an ar-15. It is a 30 pound sniper rifle that shoots machine gun sized bullets. You use this bad boy with a tripod. bmg stands for Browning machine gun. These guns are used to pierce armoured vehicles.

So if we have a gun problem and the Government is trying to fix it WHY WHY WHY did this 26 year old go to PRISON for stealing guns? The GUNS ARE NOT THE PROBLEM, PEOPLE ARE THE PROBLEM INCLUDING LIBERAL JUDGES, ATF, OUR GOVERNMENT AND THE STATE OF THE MENTAL HEALTH COMMUNITY THAT THINKS WE SHOULD JUST LET THE MENTALLY ILL LIVE ON THE STREETS AND WALK AMOUNG US! When a parent goes to the state and says their child or adult child has a problem and they believe they could hurt someone I want the state to take that person and evaluate then NOW!

  The real story is that a THIEF stole guns, and gets probation. Whose fault is this? Why it’s the fault of the evil guns of course…
  
  Liberals are SO incredibly stupid! They make tons and tons of BS laws, then they fail to enforce them. On the few occasions when the criminal makes it to trial, he does NO jail time, and has NO punishment. Probabation is NOT a punishment, as it basically says “Don’t get caught again, and you’ll never have to pay for your crime.” This might be a slight oversimplification, but not by much…

  Depressed people choosing not to kill themselves alone…or, deciding they don’t have the guts to kill themselves, so they’ll go kill other people until someone else is forced to do it for them. There always seems to be an uptick in violence this time of year.
  
  We can’t blame the thief for stealing the guns, we must blame the store they were stolen from. That makes perfect sense. [sarc] Just like laws blaming a club/bar/party host when someone gets a DUI. It’s ONE PERSON’S fault, and they were the one who chose to drink then get behind the wheel. We have become a society where there is no personal responsibility for one’s own actions.
  
  The left has to blame someone, and the idiot who did it is dead, so…we’re it. And, I, personally, don’t like being systematically categorized as “evil” every time someone who has lost their soul loses their mind. The ‘authorities’ blame the guns, the gun dealers, the gun makers, the gun clubs and ALL of the gun owners in the country, instead of placing blame where it belongs: squarely on the person who pulled the trigger. Just because the shooter dies in the incident, they want someone, something to blame–something has to be DONE! I’m sick of it.   Actually, At least eleven crimes in our country have been connected to guns that were provided through the Administration’s Fast and Furious program, including the murder of Agent Brian Terry of the U.S. Border Patrol.
  
  And the number of deaths in Mexico is now over 360 that can be linked directly to the Guns of Fast and Furious, and only 24 guns have been recovered of the 2,400 guns sent to mexico in Fast and Furious by DOJ.
  
  And the murderer of Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry received a prison sentence of 57 months.

  Yeah, isn’t it odd that you did not see Obama get on TV all choked up and teary eyed about the DEA agents that were murdered by his “Fast and Furious” pals, and he CERTAINLY did not shed any tears for those “bumps in the road” that were murdered in Benghazi. But an opportunity like THIS to push through gun control laws was too good to miss, and so there he was, all teary-eyed and sentimental, his lying face all over the media, showing up in CT to “grieve” with the famailies. What a load of BS. Obama cares for NOBODY but himself, and I doubt if the emotion of GRIEF has ever entered his sociopathic, egomaniacal little head.

  You say 100 deaths in Mexico? Well that’s only the onew we know about. How many are buried in graves in remote places and will never be found? Fast and Furious was the most ill conceived plan ever created yet, no one has ever gotten to the bottom of what and who is really responsible.
  
  As far as this gun shop is concerned, there seems to be a real accountability problem. One can expect the ATF to look into such sloppy book keeping especially in light of the fact that the owner didn’t know about missing guns.

  It’s a 30 pound gun for god’s sake. Not a very useable or stealable gun for street use. The average ar-15 weighs 8-9 pounds. Something stinks about this story. By the way that gun sells for 5500. Don’t think that one would be walking out the store.

  I really doubt that you can run a gun store with no mistakes for x number of years. If you make one false statement on a 4473 (like an ATF chief just got caught doing), you can be found guilty of a felony and lose your right to own a firearm forever, as well as spending 5 years in a federal prison. Somehow, I doubt that the ATF chief will be going to prison. But, you or I would be…

The atf will harass this gun seller, I’ll bet he sold the gun legally. And yet fast and furious is still producing victims. No investigation into any of that. The government will prosecute all the wrong people in all the wrong ways. The supposed video maker that was blamed for Bengazi is still in jail.

  Remember that they feel the gun has a mind of it’s own and most likely leapt into his hands as he was passing by. If there was a ban on that gun he wouldn’t have been able to steal it, is their mentality.

  He probably only had intended to use them for hunting season then I’m sure he would have honestly returned them.
  It is more revenue producing and cost effective to fine a criminal these days then to jail them thus “Catch and Release”.

  Yes, the sorry fellow that stole 11 guns rec. no prison time. How many guns did he sell to killers just like Eric and gun-walkers? This story stinks. They should have let out somebody on a small pot charge and shoved this guy into his cell to rot for at least 2 yrs.

Now that the video is attached, it tells a bit of a different story. LOL, it sort of reminds me of a Birmingham car dealership when I was in high school. Their commercials ended with the owner shouting out “Come on down to Jim Skinner Ford and steal a car!” An inventory after the first of one year, they discovered that somebody had stolen nine. Apparently this gun store has just as sloppy of a daily inventory.

  After purchasing firearms, in a state less restrictive than Conn. I CANNOT imagine having an “inventory” problem like this. This smells bad.

  As a retired 35 year retail professional, I can tell you that MOST stores that sell high value items, ie jewelry, computers, guns, do inventory daily. That way you can pin down the time and possible cause (person) of the theft. You may not inventory every item, but you must rotate them so that in a week or so, you cover all of your inventory. Failure to keep close track can cause you to go out of business, or maybe get raided by the feds.

ATF has proven it self to be implementing tyranny and treason over the years, but none to stop them. So the POTUS already is taken over the disarmament plan, and not even the GOP is saying anything about this nor confronting him to hold him accountable. They are all in this together. GOP does not really defend your rights, but tryranny. There should be out cry on all the ATF etc at Fed and State level —- Silence.

Start defending, because it is time your not protected.

This is all most likely a LIE to justify bullying by the ATF and “prove” to the gullible sheeple that gun dealers are evil–and so are the people who use their products.   “A crisis is a terrible thing to waste.” Obama said it, and he and his friends LAUGHED about it. I guess the deaths of 20 innocent school children was too good to waste, too–that’s why he was all over it, going on TV to show us how teary-eyed and EMOTIONAL he was about the whole thing, and how he immediately went into his song and dance about “doing something about it” (Canceling the Second Amendment?) I hope they’re not trying to start a war on our streets, but considering recent events, that may be the case. I just hope those in our military and law enforcement exercise their good judgement and not allow themselves to be used as tools against citizens.

The police will raid yuor house the same way. they will shoot your family and not think twice, the same as they do with suspected drug offenders.   I, for one, do NOT believe our military would support a naked power grab by Obama. I don’t believe HE thinks they will either, which is why he is so eager to disarm the rest of us, so he can use his “civilian security force that is as large and well-equipped as the military.”

After Badger Guns in Wisconsin, one of the worst gun shops, was shutdown, that left only a few thousand) “worst” gun shops. Too bad Riverview’s name popped up. There will always be a worst gun shop while there are more than one.

Good people ought to be armed as they will, with wits and Guns and the Truth. God Bless Bitter Clingers, damn know-nothings, progressives.

  Most of the comments in Bodybag’s section are spot on; but, is anybody ready to speculate just how close we may be to the actual “tipping point?”
  
  Think about this: Last night, that big fool Boehner failed to realize that he’s there to lead, not dictate policy to fiscally conservative, Tea party-affiliated members of the House. The market is going to fall today big time and each and every day until the “can is kicked down the road” and the bandits on Wall Street go back to snookering folks out of their retirements.
  
  At to that chaos a possible nation-wide port strike commencing on 29 Dec 12. Who runs the labor in those ports? Our friends at the ILA. Would a big labor union draw fire from the Sewer Rat-in-Chief for shutting down the ports? Not on your life!
  
  So, we may have the perfect storm brewing. Combine chaos in the financial sector and a nation-wide port strike and folks will get just a wee bit panicked.
  
  Be prepared with food, water, guns and (plenty) ammo.
  
  “Remember Benghazi and ALL the Traitors!”

If this is true, then its jut the beginning.

We must understand how the pressure of politics and the media will force those weak knee’d bureaucrats out from behind their desks in full DO SOMETHING MODE. This is one example! Once you understand that your fellow Americans (who are in places of department head power) don’t have your best interests at hand but serve a larger agenda to take away your rights wherever and whenever they can.

Communist China media outlet has stated that American citizens need to give up their guns after the Sandy Hook shootings. The pressure is mounting worldwide and soon you’ll have UN blue helmets on our streets trying to keep the piece and doing their darndest to make sure you don’t succeed in securing your rights here at home.
