Obama’s Silence on Ex-Marine Jailed in Mexico Incites Heated Exchange Between Fox News Hosts

During a guest appearance Thursday on “The Five,” Fox News host Bill O’Reilly got into a heated exchange with one of the show’s co-hosts over President Barack Obama’s silence on ex-Marine Jon Hammar, who has been imprisoned in Mexico on a disputed gun charge since August.

“You don’t think the United States government is not trying their damnedest to get this guy out of there? And by the way, there are thousands of American prisoners in Mexico,” co-host Bob Beckel asked O’Reilly.

“Not like this. This is really egregious,” O’Reilly replied. “He had paperwork, he brought in the paperwork over to the Mexicans and they grabbed him for extortion purposes. Now, what they are doing behind the scenes, I’m assuming they are doing what they should do. But should they have made a public statement before this time? Yes, they should. That is what leadership is. Especially a commander-in-chief, you don’t let one of your guys get chained to a bed in Matamoros.”

He later went on: “We had the parents on last night…The State Department tells the parents, ‘We can’t do anything’…But we have a scientist in jail in Pakistan for 30 years and this is a guy that helped us get bin Laden. What has President Obama done about that? Nothing.”

Mediaite tracks some of the ensuing back-and-forth:

“That’s not right,” Beckel retorted. “They’ve gone to the ISI and they tried to get him out.”

“Who is they? Who went to ISI?” O’Reilly asked.

“I assume the CIA,” said Beckel.

“You assume a lot,” O’Reilly snarked back, sending the conversation into a shout-fest.

“You’re assuming something,” Beckel shouted.

“I’m not,” O’Reilly shouted. “I’m a fact-based guy. Have we seen Hillary Clinton say anything publicly? Seen the president say anything publicly? No. That is the fact.”

“You think saying something publicly is policy?” Beckel asked.

“So leadership is not saying anything and allowing people to assume we’re doing something? That’s Bob Beckel’s leadership. Let’s hear it for him,” O’Reilly responded by mock-clapping the liberal co-host. Beckel shot back that it’s unfair for him to assume the Obama administration is doing nothing to fix the situation.

[Jon] Hammar and a friend were detained by Mexican authorities in August for a gun-related incident. The two men had crossed the border and provided the paperwork for the weapon they were carrying, an antique shotgun. However, police eventually impounded their RV and jailed both men, claiming it was illegal to carry that type of gun. Hammar’s friend was later released because the gun did not belong to him.

  Why would Obama say or do anything? He doesn’t care. He hates the military, and this guy is a Marine. He was arrested and imprisoned because of a shotgun he wanted to bring in (which he did it the right way and was still arrested), Obama hates guns. Obama figures the Marine “got what he deserved”.

  Our Sewer Rat-in-Chief watched as four men were slain in Benghazi and he didn’t lift a finger.
  
  Him NOT doing things is expected: Didn’t help the Iranian protestors back in the summer of ’09 when there were one million people in the streets of Tehran. Didn’t speak about the big oil blowout in the GoM for over a week when he should have acted immediately to accept the offer of huge converted oil tanker skimming ships from foreign countrie. BP wouldn’t take them. Obama could have taken over. Didn’t help stem the violence in his adopted home city of Chicago as street violence results in hundreds being killed. Didn’t do a damn thing for the folks on Staten Island except have his picture taken with them.

  Finally, maybe all the things that Glenn Beck has been trying to open O’Reilly’s eyes about over the last few years is actually beginning to pay off – some of his “memos” of late have been pretty good. I kind of fed up with him for a while but lately he seems like his eyes are opening.
  
  Anybody know him personally tell him to watch Agenda: Grinding America Down. Its a crash course in how we got to this place where our very society is being ripped apart. King obama considers the military as his enemy when it comes to him accomplishing what his agenda is for America, especially the Marines, since they are the first ones sent in. Our Marine in jail in Mexico is to obama like a Mexican Gitmo. They have a known terrorist in custody, and obama agrees with them.

Bob Beckel will argue to the point where he looks incredibly stupid, and I truly believe if Obama asked him to kiss his fanny, Beckel would ask with a big smile where do you want it on the right cheek, the left cheek or right smack dab in the middle. Beckel is totally out to lunch period, I don’t think I have ever heard Beckel say anything that was critical of this particular non-committal do nothing US President.

I’d like to see O’Reilly get some guts and truly be a patriot. He is just in it for the money and a puppet of Fox News. He thinks that he is cool and is highminded and arrogant. It would be neat if he really told the truth of what was going on in the United States and why Obama wants all our veterans all killed or jailed. I’d also like to see Glen tell the truth too. Glen is wish washy. I know I am going to cancel my subscription because Glen is just in it for the money too and pretends that he is a good man. There are no men on television that are great men. They all are actors. A true man of God would not be given one minute on the news.

  It is my humble impression that God the Father is to be the final judge, and we do not know what is in another person’s heart. Perhaps television, like other technology, can and is being used for God’s purposes… it seems premature to summarily dismiss all people on tv as unworthy. Sure there are schysters in every profession, I would agree. Look at Rachel Maddow in journalism. Look at the liberal lefties on the View. Look at the “leaders” who let 4 Americans die in Benghazi, who blamed the deaths on an impromptu video in public ads and speeches, including at the U.N., when they knew they were lying.
