College Coach Behind Viral Postgame Speech Calling on Obama to Take Action After CT Shooting Explains Himself

Winthrop University head basketball coach Pat Kelsey is making headlines across America after unleashing an impassioned post-game speech about the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting. During his emotional appeal, Kelsey implored President Barack Obama and other leaders to stand up and take action to prevent future violence and loss. This morning, he appeared on Blaze radio with host Joe Pags to discuss his noteworthy reaction.

Pags, who is filling in for Glenn Beck, asked the coach to describe what led to his epic commentary that has now gone viral. Kelsey responded by recalling how he first heard the news on Friday about the Connecticut school shooting, noting that it instantly made him sick to his stomach and stopped him in his tracks.

“In our society it seems like…you’re almost numb to some of these crazy things that happen,” he said.

However, the fact that children were involved separated this incident from others, making Kelsey so physically ill that he “almost threw up.” The Winthrop coach said that, like many other national tragedies, the Sandy Hook massacre is something that he will “never, ever forget.”

As he prepared for the games that came just days after the shooting, he described doing so with a heavy heart, noting that the rampage felt personal (Kelsey has two children of his own — a four and a five-year-old).

After speaking about the game at the now-infamous press conference following his team’s loss, he was asked if he had anything else to say. It was at that moment that his epic commentary was unleashed.

“I don’t know if it was divine intervention, because I’m definitely not that eloquent of a speaker,” he said. “And I’m not trying to pat myself on the back…but something spoke through me…”

He called America the “greatest country in the history of civilization” and said that he hopes that society adapts to continue making this notion a reality. As for President Obama, while he didn’t vote for him, Kelsey said that he is the leader of the nation who can tackle this issue.

As for how adults can assist young people, the coach said that following Jesus’ lead will help sway young people in the right direction. Listen to his interview, below:

      Yes, Yes Dear Leader,

Please take action now. Please ignore that old constitution, and the Bill of Rights, being these are rights from God, and rights that you took an oath to support and protect.

Please come out of the closet as the full blown Marxist that we all know you really are.

Please do away with the guns, because we know that you will not be able to take the Bibles, and send Children to re-education camps, until you first take the guns.

We know that the socialists in the past like Hitler, Mao, Stalin took guns, alone with socializing medicine, and redistributing wealth.

We believe in your Dear Leader, not throw that old Constitution away, ignore the founding fathers, and take away what George Washington called the teeth of liberty (guns).

Hitler was a socialist? Because the word “socialist” appears in the name of the Nazi Party? That has to be one of the most insane things I have read on this site, and I’ve read a few. Nazism was a form of far-right fascism, as the slightest amount of research will confirm. You can start with the Wikipedia page:

TheCalmOne, they’re all varying degrees of the same thing, with the exception of communism being international rather than national. None recognize individual rights or personal property rights. In all, the individual exists for the state, not the other way around.

Capitalism is the counter to communism, socialism, fascism. Anarchy is extreme capitalism.

The problem with America is not GUNS! The problem with America is that we don’t respect life (abortions), we don’t respect others, we don’t respect the rights and property of others, we are irresponsible, we are immoral and we are in a state of degeneracy.

O, and by the way, Obama’s little contraceptive measure has promoted more sexual relations outside of marriage, which will mean even more abortions, more illigitimate children, more single parents, more crime, more abuse, more disrespect, and more violence.

I am clearly living in a parallel universe because I don’t get why we’re lauding these people who call for the president to “do something.” Implicit in the “do something” cry is the assumption that guns are the problem. Ever seen what happens to crime when people are allowed to carry concealed weapons?
Maybe we should ask the president to “do something” about liberal policies that undermine the family and religion, while giving law breakers a slap on the hand if not a free pass.

If Congress disagree with the presidents changes 2/3 vote can override it and pass it without his signiture. The problem is mental illness, where those with it grow up in a society of graphic Hollywood violence, graphic Hollywood sex, computer game violence, television violence, destroyed standards in education, destroyed traditions in society, and an environment of unconditional tolerance. Add all of that to the abolition of institutionalization, and lawyers of perpetual suits, and you get the results that you now see.

He’s too emeshed in the Authority and Servant role, being a coach I guess this is understandable. He clearly doesn’t grasp that “the President” is not “the Dictator” and has very limited Constitutional authority to fix anything. He’s not empowered frankly to be able to do more than bully pulpit and urge Congress to act.

I do know the reality of the day however, and if Obama can release a diktat that tries to disarm us, we can thank people like this coach for empowering him by using a big microphone to imply that he has powers he does not.

These idiots. If you want to prevent violence, and I mean make a real difference in the rates, then you’ll start with our educational system. You’ll get back to teaching basics. You’ll get back to objective grading and not Standards Based Grading. You’ll stop tearing down our traditions, that became traditions because they were shown to work. You’ll stop giving trophies to both losers and winners, because the real world’s not like that. You’ll get back to standards in Hollywood and television, removing the soft porn and violence.

There’s lots that can be done, but the debase in our culture are simply giving lip service, and attacking the weapons used, without attacking the root cause.

Finally, get back to institutionalization. This is a behavioral problem. Only changes that control, change, behavior can work. Not guns.

this is the coach whose team was involved in the most talked about brawl in sports last year…

    hypocrisy?

and sadly, too many people will take what he said to be an endorsement of WHATEVER BHO chooses to do about the situation, irregardless of whether it has logical merit, is rationally generated, or in implementation has a prayer of working…

ban assault rifles? unenforceable… illegal deliveries will supplant that of weed from the open border
waiting list? won’t address stolen guns being used… only applicable to domestic violence solutions.
magazine limits? magazines can be created or modified… and multiple magazines will accomplish the same thing
tax bullets? EPA regulation of bullets? RELOADING, and more encouragement to steal ammunition or encourage a black market in ammunition
‘encourage’ lawsuits against firearms manufacturers? so much for affordable weapons, including for the government, and without any appreciable benefit to the victims or their families… only the lawyers will profit.

He did mention that he hopes to lead by example by his players, which is a solid point, but one that will be ignored by the Left, who don’t want to encourage personal responsibility or endorse the benefits religion bring to a civilized society.

Wish he had kept it to merely a brief, we lost, but others have lost so much more, we hope they’ll heal, and we’ll work harder to do better…

Your analysis is spot on. Gun control laws are not meant to protect anyone, EXCEPT THE CRIMINALS.
This has been proven over and over again. Every country that outlawed guns saw a RISE in gun crimes, and a RISE in home invasions. When guns were allowed back in DC recently, GUN VIOLENCE FELL.

The obvious solution to any thinking person is to ALLOW CONCEALED CARRY EVERYWHERE.

How can any thinking person mix the ideas of Jesus’ teachings, ‘American greatness’ and the bizarre, fully debunked myth that obama is a “leader”? One week after the Sandy Hook tragedy, and obama is already exploiting the murder of 26 children and adults to push his destructive agenda; obama is not a “leader”, and he is a “president” only on paper. We can be 100% sure that obama is not interested in the causes behind the Sandy Hook shootings, or in preventing future shootings, but rather, he is only interested (as usual) in exploiting this tragedy for political gain. To obama, the Sandy Hook tragedy is nothing more than a tool to push higher taxes and gun bans, etc. We should not look to obama for leadership – we should view him as what he really is – the greatest enemy the United States has ever faced.

You can prevent evil violence by empowering the individual, the state, or both.

When you empower the state you move further toward totalitarianism. TSA is a perfect example. Was the cost and loss of freedoms worth the claimed prevention of violence through hijack?

When you empower the individual you run the risk of lawless vigilantism. The wild west comes to mind.

You cannot prevent evil from happening. Guns, knives, bombs, and hands have been used to perform mass murder. You can no sooner outlaw every deadly instrument than you can outlaw evil.

I say generously deputize citizens, train them, guide them, and create laws for them. These citizens should carry weapons openly. If you don’t like the word deputize than use citizen militia as the term.

To prevent evil violence you must be able to quickly confront it with equal or greater good violence.

Don’t “license”, rather, follow the 2nd Amendment to the letter and leave us alone. We’re adults, we can make big boy judgements all on our own without the “benevolent” concerns of government guiding us.

The wild west that I am talking about was quite violent for the existing population. What the wild west was not was what we would call the west today. But what must be noted is that even with people carrying and using guns freely society grew and malnourished.

Maybe before I die, but definitely before my children die the US will ban citizens from having weapons. This must happen for global socialism to succeed. Succeed it will.
