Dem Rep. From Texas: ‘No’ To Arming Teachers…But ‘Yes’ to Motorized Steel Walls At Schools

As VP Joe Biden takes the helm of the President’s gun control initiative, Texas Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee has been talking to her constituents about how she would make schools safer.

Despite being elected to serve people in a state where Gov. Rick Perry supports allowing local school districts to decide if teachers and school administrators will be allowed to carry firearms on school grounds, the Representative leans more towards protecting pupils by outfitting schools more like a prison. She believes that protecting the kids would be better handled with bullet-proof windows and mechanized metal walls and doors that would automatically close when trouble is detected.

On Monday, Congresswoman Lee appeared on KPFT (a Houston public radio station) and explained her thoughts on allowing teachers to bring firearms into the classroom:

I cannot, at this juncture, believe that arming teachers… or that teachers would want to be armed… is going to be the answer for a place that is a refuge for learning, for creativity, for solace, for happiness for our children.

Rep. Jackson-Lee also shared how she would earmark funds from a recently approved bond issue to accomplish the “prison-inzation” (this author’s term) of the school.

(Note: The Congresswoman incorrectly states that Lanza used an automatic weapon — “he shot his way into the school with an automatic weapon.” The killer did shoot through a glass door, but there have been no reports that he had a fully automatic weapon, just a semi-automatic rifle.)

  Please don’t judge Texas by this “woman,” and I use the term loosely. The only reason she would be for motorized steel walls and against guns is because it would cost money to retro-fit all the schools in her district and she could give the contracts to her croonies.

  I have a lot of choice words to say right now, but I don’t want to offend someone as delicate as Allegiance.
  
  I googled the terms “+school +arson”. I received 16 results & they were all garbage. Either arsons at school do not occur(never occur) or there is something wrong with the web.
  
  You can’t have google 1950s & items about what happened because the search engines cannot use heuristic reasoning/logic in search terms or at least the ones we use don’t seem to have it.

  I’v got news for this uneducated liberal! Teachers are already armed and the schools can’t stop them unless they put up metal detectors. My wife taught school in Texas for almost 30 years and she always had a gun. Sometimes it was just a derringer with a single .22 long rifle bullit. Before we got married I didn’t know she was armed and one evening we were going to visit her folks in Oklahoma and some kids in a Firebird were playing with us. They let me pass and then would pass me and finally we were coming to a curve where they were going to run us off the road. My wife reached into the glove box and rolled down the rt. window and pointed a .22 gun at the driver. He locked up his brakes and smoked the tires and we never saw them again.

So they lock down the school like a prison with the freak inside with the children. Instead of 20 children being killed she would make absolutely sure that every child in that school gets killed. Of course she would still be all for it as long as all of the students are white because very few people hate white people more than she does. She hates white people almost as much as she hates intelligence which is why she stays far away from getting any. She is a joke of humanity!   This “steel wall” idea, which sounds similar to automatically-sealing airlocks in a spaceship or space station to protect against a hull breach, would be fantastic for trapping students and teachers inside while some nutcase set a fire or set bombs off. Or, trapping the kids and teachers IN with the killer.

  You know, it would be irony on an epic scale if the people of the US were to be saved from tyranny not by elections, rebellion, or the judicial system, but by either terrorists, Iran, or N. Korea nuking Washington, D.C.
  
  Personally, if I were a D.C. resident and accidentally learned of such a plot, either to nuke D.C. and/or to assassinate top government leaders, I’d quietly leave town and keep my mouth shut. And that really hurts me to have to say about my own nation’s government and it’s leaders. But sadly, it and they have become everything that the US was founded to escape, and has fought politically and waged wars against, for over 100 years.

  Gun-free zones have never stopped a predator from murdering innocent children on school grounds. Not once has a murderer stopped at that “no guns” sign and left.
  
  Legislate those on school grounds defenseless and they are victims in waiting. It is far past time we provide our children armed security at every school in this country. The real question is why do so many cling to their denial and want to keep the children and teachers defenseless?

That’s right, she wants to lock unarmed kids and teachers in with a shooter whose intent is to kill them. That makes more sense than giving them a way to defend themselves.

After a little more consideration- I think she is correct. Her solution is the right one for the people of her district. It will get them used to the prison system at a very young age- which is likely where they will end up if they follow the values of the voters prevalent in her district. Good to break them in early.

All this coming from a member of a demographic that is responsible for over 50% of this country’s gun violence. They can’t handle the responsibilities of gun ownership so they think that nobody else can either.

this idea just seems wrong to me….i have this mental picture of children playing in a school yard with the playground surrounded by concertina wire and guard towers……hardly a scene condusive to learning.

Here’s a typical Democratic response. Illogical, and asinine. She want to spend enormous amounts of money for steel walls to put the children in a prison atmosphere, while on the other hand, arming teachers, and, or a security staff would be far cheaper. Its all about common sense. I choose having live security rather than an inaminate security that can have the power turned off, becoming useless.
