Dem Rep. From Texas: ‘No’ To Arming Teachers…But ‘Yes’ to Motorized Steel Walls At Schools

As VP Joe Biden takes the helm of the President’s gun control initiative, Texas Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee has been talking to her constituents about how she would make schools safer.

Despite being elected to serve people in a state where Gov. Rick Perry supports allowing local school districts to decide if teachers and school administrators will be allowed to carry firearms on school grounds, the Representative leans more towards protecting pupils by outfitting schools more like a prison. She believes that protecting the kids would be better handled with bullet-proof windows and mechanized metal walls and doors that would automatically close when trouble is detected.

On Monday, Congresswoman Lee appeared on KPFT (a Houston public radio station) and explained her thoughts on allowing teachers to bring firearms into the classroom:

I cannot, at this juncture, believe that arming teachers… or that teachers would want to be armed… is going to be the answer for a place that is a refuge for learning, for creativity, for solace, for happiness for our children.

Rep. Jackson-Lee also shared how she would earmark funds from a recently approved bond issue to accomplish the “prison-inzation” (this author’s term) of the school.

(Note: The Congresswoman incorrectly states that Lanza used an automatic weapon — “he shot his way into the school with an automatic weapon.” The killer did shoot through a glass door, but there have been no reports that he had a fully automatic weapon, just a semi-automatic rifle.)

As a human being and an actual Texas resident from the Houston area – I would personally debate her in any forum just to illustrate the immense danger in fixing non-thinking, self-serving, homogenists in representative government!!

Ever notice that winning an election never made a member of Congress more intelligent. We’re stuck with what we elect. don’t ever forget that. The conduct of Congress, The Supreme Court and our public school system over the last fifty years are certainly more to blame for gun violence than The NRA. We have to make changes to how are kids are brought up if you want this problem fixed.

How about just swapping prisons for schools? Let the poor oppressed prisoners serve their time in schools, and teach the kids in prisons? Social justice for the prisoners, and bricks, walls, watch towers, steel doors for the kids’ safety.
Geeze, another boil on the arse of TX! How did the once great cities in TX become run by these pathetic Commies?

One of the dumbest persons on the face of the Earth…..and she gets re-elected over and over and over and over and over again. What does that say about her district… probably did not even get credit for the name section on their ACT/SAT tests. if there were ten idiots locked in a room with her they would vote her most likely to eat her own feces.

It’s absolutely absurd how this country has changed.

That certainly is a thoughtful idea, Sheila, especially if the killer is already inside before someone presses the motorized steel door button. He could massacre a whole building full of unarmed people, no one could escape, and the police couldn’t get in. Brilliant. You could call it the “Let’s Help a Criminal” system.

The frustrations that must be felt by being treated like royalty in her daily life in DC and yet the realities of STILL feeling like a slave to the American voter must be very painful……unlike King Obama who was given his post for other global motives…..keep’em spending!

We have way too many politicians today who live in lofty towers with an air of superiority, out of touch with reality. This is the same woman asked a NASA scientist if the Mars rover would be able to take pictures of the flag the astronauts left there. And democrats had her as the “head” of their NASA committee.

Think of the time frame to get this done; first there is the process of getting three quotes and vetting them. Then they need to acquire funding which will need tax increases. Then comes the build out per school. The local gun range just put a retaining/deflection wall up at the 25yd range at a cost of $13,000 for material only; the club did all the labor. Time and cost to do what the not so good congresswoman is suggesting is prohibitive in funding and time. Take a week and train the school faculty provide x amount of firearms and this can be done before the summer recess. I am sorry if I make sense because I know the progressives will not get this……..
