Dem Rep. From Texas: ‘No’ To Arming Teachers…But ‘Yes’ to Motorized Steel Walls At Schools
As VP Joe Biden takes the helm of the President’s gun control initiative, Texas Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee has been talking to her constituents about how she would make schools safer.
Despite being elected to serve people in a state where Gov. Rick Perry supports allowing local school districts to decide if teachers and school administrators will be allowed to carry firearms on school grounds, the Representative leans more towards protecting pupils by outfitting schools more like a prison. She believes that protecting the kids would be better handled with bullet-proof windows and mechanized metal walls and doors that would automatically close when trouble is detected.
On Monday, Congresswoman Lee appeared on KPFT (a Houston public radio station) and explained her thoughts on allowing teachers to bring firearms into the classroom:
I cannot, at this juncture, believe that arming teachers… or that teachers would want to be armed… is going to be the answer for a place that is a refuge for learning, for creativity, for solace, for happiness for our children.
Rep. Jackson-Lee also shared how she would earmark funds from a recently approved bond issue to accomplish the “prison-inzation” (this author’s term) of the school.
(Note: The Congresswoman incorrectly states that Lanza used an automatic weapon — “he shot his way into the school with an automatic weapon.” The killer did shoot through a glass door, but there have been no reports that he had a fully automatic weapon, just a semi-automatic rifle.)

Posted on December 20, 2012 at 12:55pmOnly a monkey would come up with something that could seal the shooter in and the police out. Criminals fear armed citizens far more than police. Only an armed school staff ready and able to respond when and where it occurs, can possibly save lives. A crazed criminal is less likely to pick a school that he knows is armed but doesn’t know who or how many. Everything the Connecticut killer did is already illegal, which means nothing to a nut job ready to take his own life. And the cops are minutes way at best and most likely will wait till the shooting stops before entering, or wait even longer for swat.

Posted on December 20, 2012 at 12:17pmIn Newtown her idea would have kept the police out of the school. How many children could possibly be crushed using these sliding steel doors and windows. How about just bullet proof glass would be cheaper than her idea but wouldn’t work either because it too would keep the police out. Guards dogs need cleaned up after, handguns and an AR-15 in house don’t need to be cleaned up after.

Posted on December 20, 2012 at 12:04pmClearly, this woman is out of touch (aren’t they all these days??). WTF does she think the money is going to come from – obama’s pockets?? Why don’t the liberal/uneducated understand that, in order to CURE the problem you have to identify the root cause and correct that problem? Here in the (F/K/A) United States, the continued decay of our society’s moral infastructure continues through no moral guidelines and no adherence to Christian beliefs (reputed these days as “not cool”). lax laws that favor criminal behavior, encouraging disrespect in our youths (I’ve seen it first hand in a public school by a faculty member!), broken families, open discussions/advertisements for contraception and sex (a parent’s job), extensive drug and alcohol abuse (to cope with broken family/abuse) – the list goes on. I suppose it is a lot easier to just ban guns, huh??? This country is ran by a bunch of stupid ass clowns!!!

Posted on December 20, 2012 at 11:56amSheila should work with her “constituents” regarding community killings that occur on a daily basis with handguns. There, she will discover that mental illness, teenage pregnancy, drugs, fatherless homes, non-cooperation with police, violent role models, and ginned up feelings of racial “social injustice” and “victimhood” by black leaders cause an environment of fear, hatred, envy, entitlement, bitterness, and hopelessness. THOSE are things she can do to reduce killings among youths.
Automatic bulletproof doors/windows shutting won’t be very helpful if you’re in the room with the shooter or during fires, and we can ill-afford reconstructing all of our malls, churches, schools, colleges, theaters, restaurants, etc. Get to the REAL problems!

Posted on December 20, 2012 at 11:43amAdding retired cops. Giving reservist credit for time protecting schools or returning vetrans a job. Issue tazers to teachers and staff. Let trained CCL teachers pack heat in school. Knee jerking at its finest. Who’s going to take responsibility for the hiring. Then you’ve got more property taxes for EVERYBODY in the country. What if they hire a whack job, because they just might get hired. How do you protect the weapons meant to protect the kids from being stolen or grabbed by some punk ass thug. How long will it take to unlock the safe where weapons are stored? What’s the liability if they shoot an innocent bystander. Geez, at that point, it’s just sanctioned murder. You think to yourself, what are the odds of that any of these points happen or not happen. I don’t know, but maybe the same odds as some shooter coming in and killing innocent people. I hope the people charging to the lawmakers think this thing through. Otherwise the unintended consequences will put us back into this cycle of stupidity were find ourselves in. Keep the probabilities in mind. Bad things will always happen to good people. It’s impossible to prevent. The majority are always paying a price for a minority of misfits.

Posted on December 20, 2012 at 11:29amThis woman doesn’t think teachers would want to be armed? I can’t help but wonder if the teachers killed at the Newtown massacre were thinking…”sure am glad I don’t have a gun”!
When the parents of these dead little children are up to speaking out, I believe all of them, if they could have been there when their little ones were murdered, will say they would have wanted to be armed!
This crazy political hack want to create security within the school walls without creating “real” gun carrying security by the teachers! Get real! The teachers are entrusted to care for and educate our children! Do you not think that most of them would gladly want to carry a weapon in order to protect themselves and their charges???!!!!
And what if we “imprison-ate” the school interior….what good will that do when the kids leave to get on their school buses??? Arm the teachers, arm the bus drivers, arm the school crossing guards, arm the parents! Stop living in denial and man up!

Posted on December 20, 2012 at 11:26amSheila Jackson Lee is an example of what is wrong with this country. If not for affirmative action, nobody would hire this idiot to work the counter at the local McDonalds. The stupid things that come out of her mouth are non-stop. Really. Living in Texas it is shameful she comes from this state. Yet, she is an elected member of Congress and nobody can defeat this idiot. Which says something about her district. If, she is that stupid. How stupid are her voters? One would hope that our elected reps have at least half a brain. This lady has none and her voters must have less. People wonder why nothing good comes out of congress ever.

Posted on December 20, 2012 at 11:08amArming educators and staff and developing in-schools emergency response teams – makes ALL KINDS of sense!
You cannot meet force w/ no force. That is just common sense. The only reasonable defense is for people to conclude that THEY are ULTIMATELT responsible for their safety and welfare in EVERY SENSE.
You are ultimately responsible for:
Your education
your marketability
your substenance
the quality of your food
your safety
your defense
your social structure
your shelter
your peace
your family
your community
your self reliance
your personal conquest
The one organization repeatedly PROVEN ill-equipped and wholly inept in these matters is GOVERNMENT!!
No question – but not for anything less than obvious reasons.
Government has it’s place and it’s extremely important in helping to govern and enforce the laws limited to their enumerated powers. That said, and this is key – NO GOVERNMENT can EVER replace one’s personal responsibility for SELF-GOVERNANCE.
In the human experience EVERYONE absolutely has the responsibility and the capacity to elevate their own life by the choices they make and the fruit of their own labor. Government cannot replace by compulsory means the responsibility we as individuals have to govern ourselves and contribute to the lives of those around us and within our spheres. As we master that end, we can then be called and counted upon to expand those circles of influence for an even greater good incrementally.

Posted on December 20, 2012 at 11:05amDear Ms. Lee, you have your head so far up your backside that you don’t even know that schools in Texas already allow teachers to be armed on a district by district, school by school basis.
Perhaps if you weren’t so busy calling everyone who doesn’t agree with you a racist, and blaming the lack of motivation in some people, on the success of those who are motivated, you might just see that guns are not the problem, it’s the attitude of the people your government has coddled that is the problem!
