Either You Send People There With Security or You Dont Send Them: Republican Sen. Bob Corker to State Dept Officials in Benghazi Hearing

Sen. Bob Corker on Thursday demanded to know why the State Department staffed its diplomatic mission in Benghazi, Libya without enough security to respond to the deadly attacks that killed four Americans in September.

“I cannot imagine sending folks out to Benghazi after we what we saw from the security cameras and the drones, I cannot imagine that we had people out there with the lack of security existent,” Corker (R-Tenn.) told department officials during a Senate Foreign Relations Committee hearing on the attacks. “It seems to me that what the State Department would have done was to prioritize and in fact if we cannot have people there, not send them.”

Noting that Clinton just requested $1.3 billion from Congress, Corker asked why there were never any requests to make sure Benghazi was secure.

“I want to talk about why you did not ask about the resources for Benghazi,” Corker said.

Deputy Secretary of State Thomas Nides answered that the U.S. government must reexamine all of its high-risk posts overseas.

“We are in a situation where the Middle East is evolving, democracies are growing, militaries are forming and we must look at each and every one of those sites and every one of our posts and reexamine under a new normal — ” Nides said.

“You were aware of the security risks there, we’ve read the cables” Corker said. “You were fully aware and either you send people there with security or you don’t send them there.”

They didn’t provide security because it was not a diplomatic mission. According to this http://bit.ly/116gnL2 (also see parts 2 and 3) it was an under cover operation. Highly recommended reading.

  Interesting read. I had heard some funny business was going on there and with the presence of the Turkish emissary at that location but a few hours before the attack, well two plus two… so this article confirms much of what I suspected, as long as this “intelligence insider” is authentic and accurate.

  GBFREAK, actually Bush had a memo saying that Al Qaeda was determined to attack us with planes, but he didn’t follow up on it. Oh, and, you know, the whole invasion of Iraq. Let us know when he finds those WMD’s.

  @ SCISSORS; Okay, if “O” gets a similar vague memo indicating that there is a possible threat from terrorists that might attack buildings by flying into them (in addition to dozens of other vague threats a week), would you be okay with him indefinitely grounding all airlines or better still, refusing the boarding of planes by using racial profiling of Arabs? Just what would you agree to? My guess is NOTHING!

  Does not matter if Benghazi was not a consulate, Absolutely does not matter. A # of us believed & said Obama was running guns.
  
  There are 3 issues.
  1. Obviously, the enemy (Al Qaeda, Russia (Putin), Assad), knew about our undercover facility/operation in Benghazi. The jig was up. They knew who we were so there is no point in pretending. If the Libyan government cannot protect our people then Obama should have sent reaction forces there that were no more than an hour away. While they were in the air he could have got permission from the Libyan’s for U.S,. troops to rescue the Ambassador. and it needn’t be a carpet bombing. It could have been special forces with 1 or 2 smart bombs or hellfire missiles or just spec ops.
  That is THE main issue.
  
  Your ambassador dies you lose face. That is important.
  
  2. The gun running is an important main issue. Was Congress informed? The House & Senate intelligence committees?
  
  3. Third we advertised in the Middle east that we had a gay ambassador. That was wrong.If you are going to go by When in Rome do as the Romans do then if we have a gay state department official in the U.S. or UN (at NYC) & they have a position that makes it necessary to meet others, who do not agree, then tough. They are in America. But by the same token if we have an ambassador in their country we should not be in your face. But regardless he was our Ambassador, we should provide full support. There was no “actionable” information available to the president, from which he could have acted! At least GWB was present at those daily briefings and both knew and cared for the threat that our nation faced!   It just amazes me how Progressive Liberals try to excuse dishonest and borderline illegal activity by pointing to someone else’s bad behavior. Sure Bush got some memos, but nobody had EVER attacked buildings with aircraft before. Yet, just 3 months before the fatal Libya facility (whatever it really was) attack, terrorists blew a hole in the security wall.
  
  Remember the adage, “fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me”. Barry / Billary had all the evidence right in front of them that there were clear and present threats to that facility. Bush had no history to work with.
  
  And in the end, even if one were to condemn Bush for 9/11, that never excuses a later intentional travesty on Barry’s part. So, quit with the “Bush did it” garbage as it doesn’t mean anything.

  There was a definite conspiracy to disseminate false information about the attack and the video! Nobody died as the result of Watergate! This was not an operation to save American lives as was Iran Contra, and Bennghazi did not garner congressional approval as did the invasion of Iraq!   Whatever the huge, impending catastrophe shaking the pols at this time, is, it has not been stopped, or delayed, or prevented.
  They know something that is being kept from the public, that is extremely grave…..they also know that divulging the nature and certainty, of this event. will cause mass panic and chaos.
  I am only reading the demeanor of the folks in D.C., so it could be nothing more than a hot dog stand going out of business, but,….. What could be so frightening and needful of secrecy that would cause anyone to wander so far from the truth and ethics? Seems suicidal to me. They would not be acting so obviously, unless the truth could be more devastating than ruining careers and reputations….

  i kept asking myself why Romney adopted the demeanor of a cuddly stuffed toy in the third debate when the question of Benghazi came up. I believe Romney to be an honorable man and a real gentleman from the things he’s done for folks in dire need. I interpreted Romney’s withdrawal on the whole Benghazi treasonous episode as being the result of him learning something so horrific that he felt that it would be a disaster for the morale of the nation. We’ll never know.

  I vaguely remember a dictator once stating that a plan was in the works that would shock the world and that it was 90% complete. This was quite a few years ago. Does anyone remember it. I just can’t put it together. The part about being 90% complete keeps popping up.

We just witnessed an election that would have had a completely different outcome had the truth been known about Benghazi. There is no honesty with the Obama administration. When times get tougher (and they will), may those who voted for Obama feel double the pain.

  1 – James McDougal – Clinton’s convicted Whitewater partner died of an apparent heart attack, while in solitary confinement. He was a key witness in Ken Starr’s investigation.
  2 – Mary Mahoney – A former White House intern was murdered July 1997 at a Starbucks Coffee Shop in Georgetown. The murder happened just after she was to go public with her story of sexual harassment in the White House.
  3 – Vince Foster – Former white House councilor, and colleague of Hillary Clinton at Little Rock’s Rose Law firm. Died of a gunshot wound to the head, ruled a suicide.
  4 – Ron Brown – Secretary of Commerce and former DNC Chairman. Reported to have died by impact in a plane crash. A pathologist close to the investigation reported that there was a hole in the top of Brown’s skull resembling a gunshot wound. At the time of his death Brown was being investigated, and spoke publicly of his willingness to cut a deal with prosecutors.

I don’t care if some of you want to believe it was a CIA operation or not. It really doesn’t matter to me what the operation was. What I want is for someone to be held accountable for:

1. Failing to leave the security assets that were already on the ground in weeks prior even though DoD said it would give full cooperation. State turned them down. Why?

2. Failing to secure adequate facilities IAW Congressional mandate. Why were they in this POS location?

3. Lying to the American people, repeatedly, from multiple sources (Rice, Clinton, Carney, Obama) that the event was started by a protest against a YouTube video. Why?

4. Ms. Lamb, formerly of State, testified that State in DC and White House were watching the events unfold live and in real time. Who did what and when? Under whose authority, or lack thereof did any action, or a lack thereof take place?

5. What did the President know and when? He has stated that he ordered that all means of support was to be given but none was taken. Who failed to follow his order (Panetta) and where is the paper trail of the order? If no order was given then why did the President lie?

6. Who changed the talking points memo (Clapper?) from Intelligence and why? Everybody knew Al Queda or the Muslim Brotherhood was responsible for this terrorist act. Why go to the trouble of trying to cover it up with such a ridicules story?

I’m tired of politicians getting away with murder. Heads must roll for this crime.

This entire situation is a coverup to the core. These hearings are absolutely useless. The “security” of the compound is the least of the questions that need answered. WHY were they there in the first place is the question that needs to be asked, but NEVER will.

Clinton is too “sick” to attend? Then they should subpoena her to testify.

Then in an effort to hide why these Americans were there and the fact that they denied more security for our people they KNOWINGLY AND INTENTIONALY LIED to the country to save face just befor the election. They watched this attack on live video feed and then made up some bs about some crappy video just to hide their failures just before the election!!!!!!!   People that have blood on their hands from their wrongful doings and is not their blood will soon show up. For example Clintons so called illness. Please cut the theatrical crap. This was a CIA mission. The State Department, regardless of how incompetent they are, had NOTHING to do with Benghazi. Also, stop calling it a “diplomatic mission.” It was a CIA safe house organizing the smuggling of weapons out of Libya.

It’s all smoke and mirrors to hide the fact that Obama was and is planning to use chemical weapons on the Syrians and blame Assad. That’s why he let Stevens die. That’s why he drew his phony “red line.” All to cover a false flag operation that is in the works right now.

  Right as far as you go, but at this point I believe everything was setup for a black op. from the video, (see Proof Positive for an interesting set of questions, Sept 26?), all the planning to make sure there would be no resistance, including removing 2 units of protection just prior to 9/11 when they had been asking for much more. Then ad in the response to the attack, telling multiple people, at Africom, and in Italy to stand down and not help, hope someday those people will have the courage to speak about what they know, they should be subpoenaed, Hamm should be asked WHO asked him to stand down and why he was relieved of duty when he continued to ready troops to go help. And finally, the 2 former seals who were the flies in the ointment that refused the order to stand down and messed up the plan. Those poor guys had every expectation that when they “painted” the mortar targets, the missiles would take them out, they were betrayed. Likely the plan was to kidnap Stevens and trade him for the Blind Sheik, it was to be done with lightning diplomatic speed for Obama’s Oct. surprise. (This is why they needed the video, couldn’t be seen that terrorists had taken Stevens. (Think the CIA is incapable of this kind of set up, see the current movie ARGO)? The attackers were likely Morsi’s guys, and that explains keeping investigators away until all traces of the Obama/Morsi deal could be scrubbed, both physically and in the records. No wonder Hilary is sick, she should be.

  Exactly. It was a CIA outing and they all know it and are dancing around it. The only good thing to come out of it is that REAL consulates in these type of areas will get better security. The reason the WH didn’t act quickly IMHO is that they were informed of its true mission and didn’t have a game plan for this type of situation. The men that went back and died were true heroes knowing exactly what the situation possibly was regarding getting any support because of the covert arms running to Syrians was the purpose of this “safe house.” Stevens going into this zone without proper escort was a risk he took for the OP. It was a bad decision. Now I ask, is this the truth or spin put out there through the back door?
