HOLLIDAYSBURG, Pa. (AP) — A man fatally shot a woman decorating for a children’s Christmas party at a tiny church hall and killed two men elsewhere in a rural central Pennsylvania township Friday before he was fatally shot in a gunfight with state troopers.

The shootings began in Frankstown Township at about 9 a.m. and investigators were processing five crime scenes within about a 1.5-mile radius, authorities said at a news briefing Friday afternoon. The troopers were responding to a 911 call of a shooting in the township when they heard calls reporting at least one other shooting elsewhere, state police spokeswoman Maria Finn said.

“It’s going to take us some time to put this all together… and know exactly what occurred,” Lt. Col. George Biven’s, deputy state police commissioner, said at a news briefing.

Family members of the victims said they were told the woman at the church was the first victim shot, the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reported. The gunman then shot two men in the driveway of a home after a confrontation at a stop sign, authorities said.

“This person went to their driveway with a pistol, pointed at them and started shooting,” Marie Brenneman told the newspaper, identifying herself as a cousin of one of the male victims. She said both male victims were the shooter’s neighbors in the tiny village of Geeseytown, about 70 miles west of Harrisburg.

“They were uneasy around him,” she said.

The woman at Juniata Valley Gospel Church had cooked food the day before for the funeral of the longtime pastor, said the Rev. James McCaulley, his brother. The central Pennsylvania church was still reeling from the Rev. David McCaulley’s death when the woman returned to decorate the church hall – named after the pastor of 58 years – and bullets ripped through a window, he said.

The gunman then entered and shot one of two women before he left, the Rev. James McCaulley said.

Two troopers driving to the scene of one shooting were fired upon by the driver of a pickup truck headed in the other direction, and the truck smashed head-on into a cruiser driven by a third trooper. The truck driver – believed to be the gunman who killed the other victims – exited the truck and immediately fired at the troopers, who returned fire and killed him, Finn said.

Bivens said investigators don’t know if the victims were picked at random. “We’re not at that point in the investigation to firmly say one way or another,” he said.

All three troopers were being treated at a hospital for what Finn said were non-life threatening injuries.

One trooper was hit by two bullets, one that hit the body armor on his chest and the other that wounded the trooper’s wrist, Finn said. A second trooper was hit by shattered glass and shrapnel. Those two troopers were expected to be released from the hospital Friday.

The third trooper was being evaluated for injuries he suffered from the head-on crash with the gunman’s truck.

McCaulley, who is the pastor of another church about 50 miles away from the site of Friday’s carnage, said his older brother began leading the Frankstown church in 1954.

“He preached his last sermon at the church in October before he fell ill,” McCaulley said.

The church, which lists about 150 members in an online want ad posted this month for an associate pastor, is close-knit and the woman killed Friday was among its more active members, McCaulley said. She had made food for him to bring home Thursday since his wife had died this year, he said.

“The only thing I can say good at this time is that (the gunman) didn’t do this 24 hours earlier when there was a big crowd in the church hall,” McCaulley said. “We’re devastated.”

Friday’s shootings were the second involving a rural western Pennsylvania church this month.

Gregory Eldred, 52, an elementary school teacher is jailed on charges he fatally shot his ex-wife, a church organist, during a service in Coudersport on Dec. 2. The pastor and church members subdued him until police arrived.

Every church should have an armed guard.
And all clergy should have guns! Problem solved!
And those nuns need to start wearing habits again so they can hide their semi-automatics!

More law abiding private citizens should be carring firearms. PROBLEM SOLVED.
But places like Rhode Island make it pretty much impossible.
Strange how the region of our country where our Freedom was founded is where it is disapearing the fastest……actually it isn’t funny at all.

Our pastor and both associate pastors have CHLs. I was in the same class. We literally have at least 2 sentinals every Sunday. Not to mention any on call law enforcement in the congregation that day.
It is a good idea to have the security since “crazy” is unpredictable. We originally did it toprotect the tithes and offerings.

If Romney had won the election, all these killings would be being blamed on him and the Tea Party. The MSM is to blame for constantly telling lies, coving up the truth and keeping the useful idiots in their constant state of ignorance.
As long as our ‘so-called’ Commander In Chief is a liar and the MSM protects him, we will continue to decline as a society. Fear and Hate are the preferred ‘weapons’ of the Democrat Party and the MSM.

I guess it’s just easier to blame it on something you can’t prove (Satan) or people who you don’t actually know (marauding hoards of phantom American Communists). I guess we can’t really blame the shooter, then. It really was just the evil work of Satan using him as a pawn. Case closed, I guess. That was easy and so, so simple! Good thing we don’t have to give ourselves a good hard look in the mirror and see what is going on in our complicated society.

If you outlaw guns only the bad guys have them. I speak from experience of growing up in Chicago when no-one could own a gun. Lots of people were still gunned down. Stupid ********, you cannot legislate safety. When I lived in Montana there was a large amount of guns and most folks had one on them most the time, very low crime. So more armed citizens equals less crime. Compare the crime stats of a western town during the wild west days with New York of the same year and statistically the wild west was safer, I know bugs you ******** that citizens can actually keep themselves safe, it violates your idea of a nanny/totalitarian system. The police are always minutes away when seconds count.

You would just roll over and die along with your family waiting for the cops to show up. Is that how you would go out? Not me or my family. They know they are safe. Below is a quote from Bryan Fischer, Director of Issues Analysis for the American Family Association on the Newtown tragedy. I’ve substituted the words “public school” or “school” with church or churches and “students” or “children” with church goers.

Just to apply the same logic to this story.

“The question is going to come up, where was God?,” Fischer said. “I thought God cared about the churchgoers. God protects the churchgoers. Where was God when all this went down. Here’s the bottom line, God is not going to go where he is not wanted.

“….we have spent 50 years telling God to get lost, telling God we do not want you in our churches, we don’t want to pray to you in our churches, we do not want to pray to you before football games, we don’t want to pray to you at graduations, we don’t want anybody talking about you in a graduation.

…” We’ve kicked God out of our church system. And I think God would say to us, ‘Hey, I’ll be glad to protect your church goers, but you’ve got to invite me back into your world first. I’m not going to go where I’m not wanted. I am a gentlemen.”

The prog utopia will never be, it can’t exist and they groom these kids to expect it, a few cannot handle the truth and go off. I went to several gun stores today and good god, magazine prices have doubled, the shelves are almost empty. Today in America about 4,000 babies were murdered in the womb of their mothers.

For some it went like this: “The day of the abortion, the abortionist attaches tubing to a suction machine, and inserts the tubing into the uterus. The suction created by the vacuum pulls the unborn baby’s body apart and detaches the placenta from the wall of the uterus, sucking the fetal parts and placenta into a collection bottle.”

For others it was: “…the abortionist slides his hand up the baby’s back and hooks his fingers over the shoulders of the baby. Then, a pair of scissors is inserted into the base of the skull to create an opening. Removing the scissors, he inserts a suction catheter into the opening, and suctions out the skull contents.10 Minus the brains, the skull decompresses, and is easy to remove. Finally, the abortionist removes the placenta with forceps and scrapes the uterine walls with a suction curette.”

The media is trying to push gun control so of course it will be in national news.

Yet, in other news this week, a man was fatally stabbed to death in San Jose today.

A woman in Burnsville, Minnesota stabbed her husband and said she wished she had been the shooter in Connecticut.

Another woman in Ionia, Iowa stabbed her husband multiple times trying to kill him.

A female cab driver in Kansas City was stabbed multiple times and had her cab stolen.

A 20 year old man in Toledo was stabbed to death.

A 23 year old male in Northlake, Illinois choked and stabbed his ex-girlfriend to death.

In San Diego a man fatally stabbed a woman and her 8 year old child.

In Detroit, Michigan a 33 year old man was stabbed to death for standing too close to the attacker.

In Missoula a man stabbed another man in the face.

I could go on, but you won’t hear about these because no one is trying to ban knives. If they were, I could hear the arguments now…”that type of knife is too long and deadly looking” or “that knife is too easily concealed” or “that knife has serrated edges and looks more deadly so why do you need it?”.

Not to diminish the deaths of innocent people, but two weeks ago, this would have been barely a blip on the news reel.

The biggest tragedy will be giving up our freedoms for a false sense of security. The 2nd Amendment is the Holy Grail for progressives. Do not let them have it.

The people of Russia gave up their rights for security, the people of Gremany gave up their rights for security, the people of China gave up their rights for security, the people of North Korea gave up their rights for security. Where did it get them? Dictatorships, mass murders – - – millions dead! Is this what we want for America? I hope not.

@encinom, You don’t have a clue about the interpretation of the 2nd. Ammendment.
“Well-Regulated” implies nothing more than the imposition of proper discipline and
training of a militia. And, to maintain this militia an armed citizenry is necessary.
Consequently, the citizens need to be allowed to “keep and bear arms”.

You are too stupid to see the fault in your own logic. Regulated by who? the very tyrants our forefathers wrote the second amendment to protect us from? A well regulated militia means a well equipped militia to the standards of the day. and for us to be equipped to meet the standards of the day,to secure our liberty, our rights to keep and bear arms SHALL NOT be infringed. read something from the same time period, and you will see the term “regulated” does not imply government oversight. you often will see someone described as “well regulated in the fashions of the day”. that does not mean the government told them what to wear, but that they were wearing the most modern fashions of the day,or what was en vogue during that time period. well regulated in the second amendment implies that Americans are guaranteed access to the same modern weaponry of the day, that could potentially be used against the population to rob us of liberty, and therefore our rights to keep such weapons shall not be infringed. your logic implies that the second amendment contradicts itself by saying that even though our rights to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed,it will be regulated by “someone”,who could very well be the tyrants we need the second amendment to protect us from.

Every freedom loving American is considered to be a militiaman in the defense of liberty. We would not have won our liberty if it wasnt for the armed citizen when we had no standing army capable of securing our freedom from England. Our Army does not prevent invasion, our armed populace does.

By the syntax, regulating the militia… Keeping the militia under control, and so the government, falls to the people.

Oh, and militia isn’t defined… if you want the militia to be the only ones armed, we need only volunteer ourselves… And then it should by rights be the government providing my modern sporting rifle with all that extra tax money coming in.

Chief Justice Burger, also understood the meaning of the 2nd Amendment. “We see that the need for a state militia was the predicate of the ‘right’ guaranteed; in short, it was declared “necessary” in order to have a state military force to protect the security of the state. That Second Amendment clause must be read as though the word ‘because’ was the opening word of the guarantee. Today, of course, the ‘state militia’ serves a very different purpose. A huge national defense establishment has taken over the role of the militia of 200 years ago. ” http://www.guncite.com/burger.html

How F’ing convenient could this be to use against the NRA’s suggestion to arm teachers in schools.

See how this works? If the NRA would have suggested that priests or doctors should be armed to protect their flock or their patients…a priest or a doctor would be the next one to go nuts to fulfill the agenda.

Everything is pointing in this direction.

An America destroyed and weakened from within by corruption of the soul is now easy pickings for the vultures circling above…i.e. China and Russia. Once America is no longer able to defy its government at home nor rally around it in a crisis then we as a republic are finished.

We are divided nearly down the middle and those leftists screaming for 2nd ammendment to be undone will win at the end of the day. Then it will begin.

The goal is for these NWO players to invite an attack from abroad against the US by purposely positioning America as the protagonist abroad. Our enemies are lining up against us and ready to strike. Make no mistake this is what is happening out there.

Then whats left of NATO and the US will rally together to destroy both China and Russia….we are in the advance steps of WW3.
