NRA Calls for Armed Police in Every School, Blames Media as ‘Silent Enablers, if Not Complicit Co-Conspirators’ in Gun Violence

NRA Calls for Armed Police in Every School, Calls Media Silent Enablers, if Not Complicit Co Conspirators of Gun Violence

The National Rifle Association Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre gestures as he speaks about the violent online video game “Kindergarten Killers” during a news conference in response to the Connecticut school shooting on Friday, Dec. 21, 2012 in Washington. The NRA broke its silence Friday on last week’s shooting rampage at a Connecticut elementary school that left 26 children and staff dead. (AP)

The National Rifle Association on Friday called on Congress to act immediately to place armed police officers in every school by the time students return to class in January.

Publicly addressing the media for the first time since last week’s horrific elementary school shooting in Newtown, Conn., NRA Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre said the question is “how do we protect our children right now, starting today, in a way that we know works?”

“The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun,” LaPierre told reporters at a news conference. “Would you rather have your 911 call bring a good guy with a gun from a mile away, or a minute away?”

LaPierre said Congress must appropriate whatever funding is necessary to put armed security in every school in the country before students return from the holidays, and before “we engage in any lengthy debate over legislation, regulation or anything else.”

“If we truly cherish our kids more than our money, more than our celebrities, more than our sports stadiums, we must give them the greatest level of protection possible and that security is only available with properly trained armed good guys,” he said.

He excoriated politicians “pass laws for gun-free school zones” and “issue press releases bragging about them.”

“In doing so they tell every insane killer in America that schools are their safest place to inflict maximum mayhem with minimum risk,” he said.

LaPierre also blamed the media as “silent enablers, if not complicit co-conspirators” when it comes to gun violence, saying there is a “national media machine” that gives wall-to-wall coverage of those who embark on violent shooting rampages and that “sells and sows violence against its own people” in the form of violent video games and blood-filled films. He showed one such video game titled “Kindergarten Killers.”

“It’s been online for 10 years,” LaPierre said. “How come my research department could find it and all of yours either couldn’t or didn’t want anyone to know you had found it?”

The news conference was twice interrupted by protesters who held banners and shouted that the NRA had blood on its hands.

“The NRA is killing our children!” one protester shouted. “They are the perpetrators of the crimes that are taking place in our schools and on our streets!”

If you ban guns you will also have to ban everything from stick and stones, from baseball bats to scissors, from vases to fireplace pokers. If a person wants to murder someone, he will find a weapon to do the job and it need not be a gun.

Murder lies in the heart of man. Change the heart, and then there will be peace among brothers.

For evildoers themselves will be cut off,
But those hoping in Jehovah are the ones that will possess the earth.
      וAnd just a little while longer, and the wicked one will be no more;
And you will certainly give attention to his place, and he will not be.
But the meek ones themselves will possess the earth,
And they will indeed find their exquisite delight in the abundance of peace. (Psalms 37:9-11)

There is hope for a peaceful future and this hope is extended to all mankind, if they want it.

Read the First chapter of Romans and the third chapter of 2 Timothy to describe what we are seeing every single day on TV and the internet. The heart of man can only be changed one way. Society as a whole will continue to deteriorate until the tribulation and ultimately the second coming of the Messiah. Things will only get worse. This is just the beginning of the end. We live in perilous times indeed.

God has raised up an evil ruler over the U.S. as His rod of judgement. We are being chastised because of our arrogance and sinfulness. As it has always been the good will suffer with the evil. God will keep the righteous as He did Daniel in Babylon if they remain faithful. Chastisement is meant to turn the hearts of the wicked toward God. If they are not turned they are destroyed.

As for the rod, God always breaks the rod when He is done using it. God may be merciful and reveal Himself and spare the ruler as He did with Nebuchadnezzar or He can harden the heart and judge the ruler like He did Pharaoh.

You’re exactly right. But these sorry demagogues don’t care if deaths continue or not by means other than firearms. They’re pretty dumb, but I doubt they’re so dumb they think banning assault weapons is going to stop these kinds of killings from occurring.

They want to disarm the populace in order to implement their Orwellian society. If the people are armed, it makes their jobs MUCH MORE difficult.

Their goal IS NOT to stop the killings. It is to prevent the citizenry from defending themselves.

La Pierre is right. Video games and violent movies play a FAR GREATER role in these killings than anything else.

All Hollywood movies depicting violence and slaughter must have an XXX rating. And all videoi games wherein killing is the goal with gratuitous violence HAVE to be banned.

If you are claiming that it is just as easy to kill someone with a baseball bat as with a gun, why would you insist on having a gun to protect yourself?

If you’re being attacked by someone, would you rather them have a gun or a baseball bat? I’m assuming a baseball bat–so we can say that there is a significant difference between these weapons, meaning that your analogy is quite pointless.

I would be ok with myself having a baseball bat only if there was a guarantee that any would be intruder also, at most could only have a baseball bat. Since this will NEVER be the case, guns should never be taken away from those who want to own them, PERIOD. Thank you for applying logic to this conversation. Remember you opened this can of worms. His analogy is spot on. I would like to have the best available, such that if the would be intruder had the same, best available weapon, because dont sit on your high horse and suggest that they wouldn’t, i would have a fighting chance to defend myself.

Not to mention the fact our gov’t is now under investigation for providing arms to said criminals. Notice i said under investigation, i didn’t say providing. I am not a conspiracy nut.

It makes no sense to ban “assault weapons” and not also ban semi-automatic pistols. A .45ACP round is more powerful than a .223 round, and both are effective in killing the same amount of people in the same amount of time. If they ban these rifles, they will also have to go after handguns. Fortunately, the Supreme Court has already held that handguns are the common gun in use for lawful self defense and can’t be prohibited, as was done in DC. The leftist clowns like Encimon can keep spewing their baseless crap, but they will never show facts to support their claim that 100% gun-free school zones have protected children from armed intruders. In fact, there are plenty of facts to prove that armed school staff members have ended the threat of armed intruders. Of course, the liberal detests facts and preys on the emotions and fears of recently harmed individuals. Their good feel do nothing laws have caused too much damage to this country, and we can no longer afford their stupidity. The liberal provides no solution but only quick fixes based in lala land. He ignores reality and believes that human laws can make the world a perfect place. He doesn’t understand that human laws are made to enable good people to protect themselves from the evil of the world.

A ban on all semi-automatic rifles, and a ban on all shotguns whatsoever, wouldn’t make one bit of a difference. The police with all its force and might got there too late to save any lives from death. The maniac could have gone in with one 6 shot revolver, two 12 round lever action rifles and easily killed 30 defenseless souls in under 10 minutes. The police arrived at Sandy Hook Elementary School in ten minutes, too late to confront the threat. What do the liberals suggest we give to teachers in the care of 20+ students while they patiently wait for the police to arrive when they’re being slaughtered by a mentally deranged maniac? Should we give the school more funds to create more closets? Should we arm the teachers with more crayons and color books so that kids die peacefully? What do these sick liberals suggest? These liberals can’t even concede to the fact that as of right now the majority of students and teachers in government managed buildings are sitting ducks for anyone to just come on in and cause havoc, regardless of what weapon used or threat imposed, while every state capitol, court and local government facility sports at least one armed guard in the case of such an emergency. Do liberals count the lives of one class of people more valuable than our innocent children? Are we not all equal, and deserve equal protection under the law?

      So who is Kevin Jennings?

The real question, is why is the MSM not talking about Kevin Jennings? Four years ago, Jennings was Obama’s pick for SAFE SCHOOL CZAR.

Jennings had no police training, no experience in security, his claim to fame is teaching homosexuality to school children.

He once bragged that he knew of a minor at his school that was having sex with a grown adult, but he never told authorities, or the child’s parents.

So once again, notice that the MSM is clamoring for the legally owned guns of America’s citizens, but will not so much as mention Obama’s SAFE SCHOOL CZAR from four years ago.

@Encinomoron…. The greatest threat to all innocent victims of violent criminals is people like you who share a mindset that denies and even condemn the protection that can be afforded a potential victim by an armed citizen. When an atrocity such as the “Sandy Hook School” massacre occurs and that 911 call is placed would you rather an unarmed police officer responds? The answer is obviously no. Why, then, do you object to having an armed officer on the premises acting as the protector of the intended victims, seconds, not minuets away? Do you object to armed guards in federal buildings? How about flanking your president and affording him protection? Even banks have armed guards. Do you object to them too? You and your ilk have targeted the NRA for decades as a boogieman and your arguments are ineffective because they make no sense.. The weapon of choice, be it a gin or a truckload of fertilizer, is not at fault. the perp is. And when seconds count and the police are minuets away, the result can be catastrophic. Got it?

I agree WHITEFANG. Much of what was said in the NRA press conference was in theory,, good. I agree that the only way to stop an evil man with a gun is with a good man/woman with a gun. However, this power should not be trusted to yet another government agency. What the NRA has failed to foresee (or did they?) is that this call for more armed government, police or other such agency is an invitation to further in prison and indoctrinate our children through the public school system. The message? ‘God’ the government is your only hope for survival. Hear me out.

If you have not noticed, the TSA has been a horrifying failure and is growing like a cancer in the USA. The TSA has been trampling our rights on every level. The TSA started out as Airport security but now are expanding busses, railways and now even to highway check points! Enough. Though I can’t say whether it will be the TSA or a new agency I can say that this is a big fat green light for the growing anti constitutional federal police state to expand its authority over us. Can you imagine being frisked before you pick up your child at school? How about a body cavity search? The Oboma Administration is likely to latch on to this opportunity whole heartedly.

So what IS the answer?? TRUST US, WE THE PEOPLE. Simply allow teachers and other school workers to carry a gun, if they so choose. My friends, more government is NOT the answer. NRA, you have missed the mark. You’re not the enemy but you have now enabled

Those fools with signs against the NRA are just that, IDIOTS. People with legal guns want to protect themselves, their families and any others who need help.
For the IDIOTS with signs, it’s the illegal guns and owners and sicko people who cause all the killings that go on around America, not legal gun owners.
Someone said get a baseball bat; yeah, if that’s all you have available, but someone coming at you with a baseball bat or a knife would be best stopped with a gun, not a battle of strength of who can wield a bat better. I want a gun to protect me and my family and to hell with the NRA protestors.

As far as I’m concerned, if they are this stupid, they’re the ones who’d better pray no one harms them with a bat or a gun when they have nothing to protect themselves with; I’d be praying for a gun.

I think having armed guards at schools is a very good idea. Every military base in the united states has both military and private security who are armed, many shopping malls and fast food resturants have armed security, many schools in the inner city in high crime areas have an armed Police Officer or Security Guard on site. What in this world is more valuable than our children? We should provide them with the same protection(s) that we provide for other facilities and people. While were in the process of protecting children how about we ban Abortion as well? Doesn’t make sense to put armed guards at schools and not protect children in the womb.

@PubliusPencilman – You seem to be overlooking a key point, there are already millions of guns in the country. Assuming that banning weapons will make it more likely that someone will be attacked with a baseball bat isn’t very realistic. Look at it this way, once bows and arrows were invented the Lance and the Spear were inferior weapons, if you wanted to defend yourself at a distance you needed a bow and arrow, same holds true for a guns. When Plasma guns hit the market I’m going to get one, you have to even the playing field right? Remember the Indiana jones scene where the guy pulls out a whip too and Indiana rolls his eyes and pulls out his gun and shoots the guy? Don’t bring a baseball bat to a gunfight. Having served 3 combat tours I can tell you I wish there were no guns or violence or crime but there is and I want to do everything I can to protect my family. God Bless.

You and I are concerned with solving the problem of mass killings. We are mortified by the senseless killing of our precious children. However, those screaming for gun bans are not so concerned about such things. Either that, or they are so lacking in brain power that they can’t see the complete lack of logic in their arguments. Some of them are that challenged, but most just hate guns and see this as the main issue. It really isn’t about the kids at all. It is all about the guns. They just use the kids as a means to help magnify their emotions, which is what is most important to them. You and I can give them the best solutions to the mass murders, and all they care about is the guns, and the hate and fear that a gun makes them feel.. There is no reasoning with emotion. We are completely wasting our time.

Valiant says, “…A .45ACP round is more powerful than a .223 round, and both are effective in killing the same amount of people in the same amount of time…”
Wrong, Valiant: the .45 might be almost as good at twenty feet, but not twenty yards and especially at 200 yards.
But why should we allow dotgov to ban any, let alone either?

When the Sandy Hook district re-opened it’s schools (except the elementary) earlier this week, the parents were made to feel safer about their kids returning to school by what action of the district ??
To put a GUN in each school. Imagine that…….the thing that all of you morons want to blame for this tragedy is the one thing that made these parents feel that their kids were SAFER. A GUN ! It doesn’t matter that it is a police officer that has the gun as most people don’t personally know the officer and don’t even know how proficient the officer is with that firearm. All they know is that there is a GUN in their school, and they feel better.
Does Obama wants to regulate the “assault weapons” that are protecting him ? Of course not.
He didn’t want to regulate the hundreds of “assault weapons” that he and Eric Holder allowed to walk into Mexico and have been used to kill over and over again.

The NRA is for stiff PENALTIES for the use of a firearm in the commission of a crime.
Obama and Holder are for PROVIDING the firearms for the commission of a crime..

If you ban guns you will also have to ban everything from stick and stones, from baseball bats to scissors, from vases to fireplace pokers. If a person wants to murder someone, he will find a weapon to do the job and it need not be a gun.

Murder lies in the heart of man. Change the heart, and then there will be peace among brothers
      ***
Don’t forget to ban arms and legs, both can be used to strangle a victim. In order to have no murder, we’d all have to be little rubber ball people bouncing around unable to do anything else. I agree totally with you. Man’s worked since the beginning to change the heart, when they discovered it was impossible, they’ve just said there was no such thing as evil just bad behaviours learned from some problems. Then we let Sigmond Freud and modern psychology/psychiatry movement take over our society, government and schools. HOW’S THAT WORKIN’ OUT FOR US???
Maybe it’s time to replace the PSY’s with some old fashioned common sense, use discipline when possible and separation, whether jail for those who just have murderous hearts, or hospital type institutions for those who are suffering short term problems, then we can let true medicine determine whether there are physical and physiological causes. There might even be a place for those poor old PSY’s to re-think their theories, and add the fact that if someone can change or be medicated ok, but if non-violence depends on med’s keep

@WOLF Ha, you caught that. I figured someone would. My statement was in regards to stopping power, not distance. Of course the .223 has longer range, as its a caliber made for a rifle. We shouldn’t ban the .223 or .45ACP. I was trying to make the point that these liberals know nothing about firearms, and throw anything out there to see if it catches. They say that the Bushmaster used in CT is an evil “assault weapon” that has a “very high” capacity caliber, and ignore the fact that there are more ‘powerful’ calibers for pistols, or even hunting rifles. And, considering most modern pistols are also semi-automatic; which type of gun this maniac used, whether rifle or handgun, wouldn’t make much of a difference. So banning one, won’t reduce the harm intended, since the other one can also do about the same damage. The maniac in CT did not shoot those innocent souls from far away, but most likely within three yards the most, so it doesn’t matter if a a rifle or pistol were used.

This might possibly one of the most stupid suggestions I’ve ever heard in my life. Put a policeman in every school in the United States? How many school are there in the US? In my moderately sized city, there must 500. Who is going to pay for all those cops? Especially when cities are cutting back? Ya gonna raise taxes?

Virginia State, to scene of the worst mass murder at a school in the US had campus police. How much did that help. I think this is an appeal to uneducated people who have never been to college frankly. College campuses are generally big spread out places. A cop at every building? Who pays for that? In fact most school I’ve seen are fairly spread out. And if someone wants to shoot up a school? Who is the first person they kill? The cop of course.

That kind of idea only appeals to the ignorant. Give me single example where someone with a 30 round magazine in an automatic weapon saved lives. You can’t because that doesn’t happen. The only purpose for assault weapons with large magazines is to kill a lot of people in a short amount of time. You’re not stupid are you? It’s not for killing a lot of dear in a short time. It’s for killing people. And those guns ARE NEVER used for killing a lot of bad guys outside a war setting.

Nope, those guns are only used for killing lots of innocent people or even children in a short amount of time. The only people who need those weapons are soldiers overseas or people who want kill.

Maybe you should calculate the kinetic energy of a baseball bat, thrown stone compared to a bullet.
Combat is not always about who has the fastest weapon, but the better tactics & surprise.

Watching Investigation Discovery Channel I saw where a Texas mother defended her son from 5 teenagers. She killed one of them & went to jail. Hooray the demented one says. Success. But who is successful? I say the mother is. He son is alive & the other 4 teenagers have not had their way since.
The mother had gone to police about the bullying problem. They did nothing. She lived in the country side. How fast were the police going to get there? In time to throw white sheets over the mother & her son? Does that get your rocks off?
5 young men brazenly pull up in a pickup to a isolated or semi-isolated home in the country. they have entered private property against the owners wishes & are approaching the house. What do you do? A the liberal answer. Panic room! Call 911. People have literally taken apart house to get at people in the middle ages & they can to this day. If those men who at the very least wanted to beat her son down. At the very least they could have maimed him in the process. At worst they could have decided to play God. Theirs was the transgression.

Forcibly relocating people from the countryside to city apartment s won;t work either. There are any # of apartment blocks that are no go areas in various countries. Check mate.

@sendthemeteors – You are correct, it is not a very good idea and for exactly the reason you state. Another is the fact that a single uniformed officer would be the very first target in a repeat assualt. There is a reason why states with the most relaxed gun-control measures have lower incidents of crime . . . the criminals never know who is, or is not, armed. On the flip side, there is a reason why these mass-killings always occur in “gun-free zones”. In those cases, guess who’s the only one armed? The bad guy. You mentioned the VA killings, which took place on a campus with armed security. A large university is no diffeent from a small town and the old saying “when seconds count, the police are minutes away,” holds true. There were numerous professors on campus that had legally owned firearms . . . in their cars. Had they been allowed to carry, the life-or-death outcome may have been far different. I get your warm and fuzzy ideal of ‘eliminating all guns’ – but that is not going to happen anymore than laws to eliminate illegal drugs. The unfortunate answer is; the best way to deal with an armed madman is by confronting him with an armed good guy. Allowing teachers, administrators and other workers within the school system to be armed – heck, even the thought that they ‘might’ be armed – is likely to thwart more future tragedies of the kind that occurred in CT last week than any kind of ineffective ‘ban’ ever could.

@sendthemeteors LaPierre did not offer the best solution. The best decision is to allow certified school staff members to conceal carry, and repeal the mandatory nationwide gun-free school zone act. Let each school or district decide on its own. A school in Texas is doing this the right way: http://www.theblaze.com/stories/this-tiny-tx-town-allows-teachers-to-carry-concealed-guns-we-can-protect-our-children/

Tennessee’s plan is also much better: http://www.breitbart.com/Big-Government/2012/12/20/Tennessee-Considering-Training-Arming-Teachers

Allowing our children to be left there like sitting ducks, and to provide them zero opportunity to effectively oppose any intruder or threat is not an option any longer. The left’s solution is ridiculous. Banning semi-automatic rifles won’t do jack. A semi-automatic pistol would have the same effect. The liberal’s are offering no real solutions but just ignorant feel good do nothing laws.

Genius… most schools have security. Arming them isn’t turning a school into a prison. Metal detectors are worthless for things like this. Armed security is a very effective deterrent. Look at Israel where they allow teachers to carry guns AND post 2 armed guards at each school. When was the last time something like this happened there? And remember they have terrorists actively targeting their civilian population. Get your head out of your arse.

As a retired school principal, the last thing I would want to see if guns in the hands of classroom teachers but not for the reasons you think. My reasons are students gaining access to them by theft etc. Teachers will tell you it is hard enough to keep students out of purses in locked file cabinets etc. But on the other hand armed security guards are a no brainer. Every place we go has armed security guards: banks, stores, airports, courthouse, patroling the streets etc. But we cringe at the sight of a policeman protecting our schools. IT is the only answer. Buzzing in doesn’t work for the armed gunman but is at least a way to slow them down entering the school. It would have been nice if that principal was armed as she charged the shooter. Most principals would do the same thing even knowing you had no chance. You see your school students as your children, even the misbehaving ones.No system is perfect but at least a gunman might think twice if he knew he must fight his way into the school. Gun laws do not keep guns out of the hands of criminals or black market dealers. Quit deluding yourselves. An interesting article is how many school shootings have occurred where schools already employ armed police in their schools. It might give us a valid insight into the real solution. You can’t fix crazy and stupid. You must confront it.

And yes, you should home school your children if you want them to have the best education possible. I would not suggest that you stay home from the mall, movie theaters or off the highway. I do suggest that you get firearms training, get a gun and carry it. That way, IF you need protection in the future, YOU will be able to provide it yourself instead of waiting 10 minutes or more for someone else to show up and risk their life for your protection.

@Exiled, I used to be a teacher. I trust teachers and no I don’t think they will go any crazier than they already are to be a teacher. I have never held or fired a real weapon. I can’t imagine most of the teachers I’ve known owning or carrying weapons in class. Many teachers don’t have their own classroom, they have a desk in an office and move carts between classroooms. Where do they secure their weapon? I never brought anything to school that I didn’t want stolen, because in a school, if it can be stolen, a student will steal it. How is a weapon locked in a desk a deterent to a terrorist attack? “Excuse me, Mr. Terrorist, I need to unlock my desk and my gun safe, don’t shoot anybody until I get back!” Well, don’t lock it up then, carry it with you. Right, I’m going to walk between the desks with a pistol on my hip. How do I reach students if I’m packing heat? Oh, and then there’s the irrate parent. If teachers are armed, you can beat that parents will be. I knew of a teacher who physically threatened for pulling his son off of a boy he had pinned to the ground and was beating to a bloody pulp. And you didn’t address the issue of bullets going through the walls. I’ve been in a classroom where a fight erupted. What if a teacher shoots a dangerous student but misses and the bullet kills someone else? What do you tell the parents of the innocent student? What do you say to the teacher who has to live with this? What do you say to the students?

DesertRose: Yes, a concealed weapon would always have to be WORN. Leaving it in a desk or on a cart or something would be a horrible idea. Concealed weapons are also not usually worn on the hip – they’re worn on the ankle or under the armpit…

      @DesertRose

It’s called training and qualification. When I did security work at 21 yrs old, I, too, had never handled a handgun. I had to take a 80 hour training course provided by the local LEO. It was 40 hours of Criminal Law(when you can/can’t use it and the consequences of misuse), plus 40 hours of live fire practice. I had to score 42 out of 50 hits on situational targets(that’s rounds, not points) while on a timer to pass. I scored 49, missing the rabid dog target(rural area….you urbanites wouldn’t understand) Before the final, I’d fired more than 1,000 rounds through my chosen carry weapon(which I still have today, on it’s second barrel, and still practice monthly). Israel requires their armed teachers to be either ex-IDF or take over 120 hours of training with a military instructor. You don’t just hand a moron a weapon of mass destruction and expect them to be an expert marksman out of the box. That’s the Lib-tard way of thinking..

@Exiled, So, what you’re saying is that classrooms should be turned into war zones and that I have to put a gun and a holster under my dress or around my ankle and I have to walk around a classroom like it’s just any other day because someone might possibly burst through the door and start shooting? I’m 5ft tall and wear a size 6 shoe and when I was teaching, I wore dresses the first month of school. A gun on my ankle? What about the relationship with the students? You don’t think having someone trained to kill will make a difference in how they teach?

Brother-Ed, You’ve been watching too much Fox. The “collective” crap is out of SciFi and Roger Ailes nether regions. You folks are talking about turning schools into combat zones rather than giving up your guns. The rest of us have to live at the OK Corral so you can feel “assured”!

@Redhawke I know you Tea types want to home school. By all means, keep it up. The standards of American education will fall even farther. We are already nearly illiterate in the sciences because of the homeschoolers and the Bible thumpers. And now you want to turn the schools into armed camps but there’s something wrong with Liberals?

Desert Rose: I know many teachers that would have no objection to carrying a concealed weapon, and I know that it wouldn’t affect their teaching at all. Guns are not the center of the world. If I conceal a weapon on my person, I pretty much forget about it unless I have need to draw it for some reason. Why would that influence my teaching in any way?

      Not so sure.

Yes, we need armed individuals (adults) present. Put a guy in a uniform there though and that’s simply another step in the chain of planning for a psychopath.

“Ok, Officer Friendly sits near the office from 10 to 11. Walk in shoot him first. Rest of school is mine”.

I prefer “go back to the notion that individuals are free, and stop prohibiting teachers or *visitors* to peacefully carry sidearms as they wish”. No uniforms, no way to know, no way to target with certainty.

But alas, liberty is never considered an option these days. We’ll continue to compound the problems of life with more and more government, begetting even more government.

Mental illness is the cause. Start there. Institutionalization and a national data base. Simultaneously, Hollywood, television, and the computer gaming industry must be reined in. No more graphic violence and sex, back to standards.

Then, schools and education. Stay with objective criteria in grading, not feel good, subjective emotions. Everybody is not the same. Ditto child sports. Everybody does not deserve a trophy. There really are winners and losers, and effort pays off.

Having armed protection at every school assures you that if they do decided to try a mass killing in a school they will not make it very far.

There’s no evidence that violent video games contribute to actual violence. Besides, graphically violent video games are already rated such that only adults can purchase them. If kids are getting them then it’s the fault of their parents. Censorship is not the answer here.

Graphic violence and animal graphic sex have no place in the general population. If people want that debased trash, make them go to porn/violent stores, where ages can be checked, and some control can be implemented. It worked in the past, not perfect, but better than the present.

A national data base of mentally ill will be abused. People on the list might eventually include those who post aggressive comments on the computer. If someone says that he wishes someone would shoot his ex-wife, they might get on the list as a precaution. Soldiers suspected of Post Traumatic Stress or even victims of crimes who know and are able to take action against the perpetrator might be put on there temporarily to make sure no outraged parent kills a child molester. Pre diabetics who have nothing but low blood sugar and are misdiagnosed as being depressed might make the list. Anyone who has been involved in a court ordered separation or had had the cops come to the house to break up a domestic dispute could get on the list. Anyone taking a legal black-label drug to quit smoking might be placed on the list. Lefties always abuse language by redefining it and push the envelope of the rule structure.

Commonsense tells you that you are wrong. Let’s just take one example. During last years Super Bowl, companies paid an average of $3.5 million for a 30-second spot. Why would they do that if it had no effect on behavior? Their research shows that it does, which is why they pay the ungodly price.

Now, if 30 seconds has an influence on behavior, how much more influence does a 90 min. movie contain? That would equal 180 consecutive, coordinated, commercials. Now, place that influence into a mentally deranged brain that can not process data in a normal fashion.

      Use your brain.

You are 100% correct in that mental illness is the cause, but over regulation and censorship is not the solution. Call of Duty alone sold well over 50 million copies. Grand theft Auto series sold over 120 million copies. These do not cause this kind of violent acts. If they did, can you imagine the kind of mayhem that would be occurring in this country? There were many mass murders committed before the invention of TVs or Video Games. IMHO There are only 3 people who are to blame:

#1 the guy who did it
#2 the person who did not secure their firearms (his mom)
#3 the people that knew he had a mental illness and did nothing

At this point, someone could use such a system to steal fresh organs rather than take care of the “mentally ill”. What happened in Newton Connecticut is aberration. We should not turn our society inside out because of an anomaly.

    Solid statements, one and all.
That said, the huge majority of our kids and young adults who watch violent movies and play violent video games ARE NOT violent… they don’t beat their girlfriends, abuse their friends, kill puppies, or trip old people.

Stated simply evil crazy exists. It will continue to exist. Pretending evil crazy doesn’t get aroused watching violence on TV or the movie screen and pretending to enact it in video games is ridiculous, but the movies and games aren’t the cause. And if friends and families do a better job of looking honestly at just how little bobby is playing and the way he reacts to what he watches (not just what he watches, sorry parents), THEY can intevene long before a problem arises and get these troubled souls help…

of course, there’s not the help there used to be, thanks to government cuts, and the stigma associated with government institutions (funny the Left doesn’t demonize those outside of mental health).

The suggested response IS the only way to immediately protect our kids, and even that won’t keep nuts from killing if they are willing to die to accomplish their goals. Ask the terrorists, a suicide bomber has nothing to lose and usually cannot be stopped, the grim goal is to minimize the damage and to pre-empt attacks.

      who said more employees?
we have all those we’ve already employed with the last bail out, right?

seriously, i don’t mean adding to payrolls, but redistributing payrolls… in small municipalities there could be redrawing of the zones the police patrol, with a greater presence on campus.

future school planning putting all grades in closer proximity– different schools, but blocks apart– would aid as well.

and the schools ALREADY have security… adapting that would be appropriate.

if we stop funding studies about cell phones cancer causing risk and evaluations of shrimp on treadmills there would be more money available.

or close Ramstein and our other allied bases… bring the troops home.
or stop funding countries that keep our citizens shackeled for a legal firearm…

lots of way to skin this cat, and when the cry goes up ‘it’s too expensive’ the alternative is to train, evaluate, and arm those already on site, a la pilots. But right now, saying that is something like pointing out that the king has no clothes… you might get stoned for impertinence

Now before you flame me understand this. I am in no way saying that children should be abandoned and left to fend for themselves. Absolutely NOT! But we as American must stop thinking about the individual selfish rights and start thinking as a country and our rights as a whole. Stop voting with your feelings and start voting for whats best for America.

Many people will immediately think well I don’t necessarily NEED a gun so why not get rid of them or regulate them more. NO! Our rights to keep guns in Constitutional and the 2nd Amendment was written as a means to protect our right to possess arms that are ALIKE to the firepower of the tyrannical government. Its not about hunting. Its about fire with fire. Don’t bring a knife to a gunfight. The last 40 years have been chipping away at the rights one at a time. 9/11 saw the biggest loss of freedom with the creation of Homeland Security. Hey Just- WERE BROKE!!! They broke the will of the Russians the same way. We will loose that war in the long run because we have been bogged down too long over there. While the cost of war is many dead citizens, all wars are won by will. If you cannot break the will of a people you cannot win the war. If God forbid we ever lost freedom to a tyrannical new government than I would rather the people have a rock than a stick. I would rather the people have a gun than a rock. I ask you, if challenged with the threat of the loss of freedom, what cost is to high to secure it?? How many lives through out history have been taken for the prize of freedom? You CANNOT equal the awesome might of a global government, but the will of a people is mightier. I don’t care what the odds look like, if the cause is righteous and just, cemented in love and liberty, than I would gladly give my life so your children might be free. As CRAZY as that sounds, and believe me I think its crazy, I PRAY TO GOD IT NEVER HAPPENS. However if it should, I hope my neighbor has more than a pee shooter to fight the cause. People like yourself said the same thing when the American Revolution began. “We cannot win against the mightiest, most well equipped army in the world! We are but farmers, with wooden pitchforks and a few muskets!”. The WILL of those farmers beat the mightiest world power at that time. These are just the facts my friend. Just.

You missed the point entirely. Its not that the children don’t have rights but the push (and its a HUGE push) that the protection of children outweighs everything else is how they have chipped away at out freedoms. Think about it. Was their anybody calling for armed guards in our schools 20 years ago? When you went to school did they lock the doors behind you? Did your parents have to “check you out” from the front office everyday? Did your school police your activities and penalize you with suspensions or detentions because of your outside activities? None of these things happened until we allowed more and more government intervention into the day to day activities at school. LOOK AT THE FREAKING LUNCH PROGRAMS! Our mother socialist Moo-chelle has attempted to infiltrate the lives of children using celebrities all while attempting to eliminate what SHE finds to be the cause of obesity. And God bless the kids with balls enough to stand up. Those kids should be the future of our country. We have lost a generation and if we are not careful, we will lose the rest from here on. The public school system has become the step 1 brainwashing. The public universities are now step 2. I live in a university town and let me tell, we are surrounded by some of the stupidest people alive but yet this school is ranked as a higher education facility.

The US military went up against poor communist farmers for several years in Vietnam, and couldn’t defeat them. The US military went up against armed rebels in Lebanon, and couldn’t defeat them. The US military went up against dirt poor cave dwellers in the Middle East, and yet we’re still there, after 8 long years. Sorry to break the news to you, but any armed civilian population in the world, even consisting of citizens in third world countries, would undoubtedly give the US military a difficult time fighting.

Liberals would rather accept the role of no hope for survival against tyranny instead of at least having an ounce of chance to protect themselves and family. The liberal’s mind will always surrender when faced with a choice or duty demanding sacrifice, dedication and constant vigilance. They’re cowards of the first degree and don’t have the heart to become free. Like subjects they depend and wait for their overlords to protect them. It’s sad really, they forced such a policy on all public schools, and left our children sitting ducks for any madman to come in cause all sorts of harm and damage. These progressives liberals are sick.

In this past century we have seen the rise of the Soviet Union, Nazi Germany, militaristic Japan, nationalist Spain, fascist Italy, communist China, despot North Korea, dictatorial Cuba, and genocidal African states and tribes. The second Amendment is not outdated at all, but much needed even more.

When NRA Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre spoke this morning I WEPT! It is the first time sense the tragedy that I have heard someone pin point EXACTLY what is wrong with our culture, our media, and our logic in banning assault weapons. His words cut so deeply into the fabric of the lies and propaganda being spewed by our media and Washington for the last week that I couldn’t help by tear and say “WHY, WHY, aren’t people understanding the truth in this mans words??”. People are so easily led by simple emotional talking points, instead of LOGICAL common sense solutions that WILL SAVE LIVES!!! WHY, aren’t people outraged about the propaganda being sold on the backs of the beautiful little children who died in CT? May God WAKE UP OUR REPUBLIC!

Stop referring to them as “assault weapons.” An assault weapon is a term created by the government to scare people. No guns are actually called “assault weapons.” They are rifles, shotguns, pistols, revolvers, etc. When you begin to use their terminology they have already begun to win the fight. Ask any lib to explain what an assault weapon is and you will get blank stares and stumbling.

I felt the same way. I thought the camera angle of the media swarming to the protestor shows how sick our media is. The NRA was giving solid factual advice and standing up to protect our children and the media does not care. They did not even listen to the beginning of the speech when they said they will take questions on Monday. The NRA said they will set up a way to protect America’s children NOW but we all know the media will show the protestors as the big story. Our country is sick. It needs to be healed with truth and people using their brains.

Yes sadly it will be all about the stupid protesters and not the brilliant message from the NRA. Oh and on my language of “Assault Rifle”, my bad, I should have said SBR (Scary Black Rifle). Thats what we called it last time we went through this crap in the 90′s. I guess language is always an issue, but every military person, Cop, Gun store worker, and person I know calls them “Assault Rifles”. Just because their named that doesn’t mean the public doesn’t have a right to them. I can give a LIST of reasons why the public should have access to them.

And some (no scratch that MOST) of the problems relating to gun accidents and fear of guns is lack of education about guns. I was not raised around guns. My grandparents had guns for hunting but my parents never kept any guns. I have always loved guns and loved shooting. Its a sport for me however, now its a survival preparation. I hunt…ethically and I use and store my guns safely. I also teach my nieces and nephews about guns and safety. Because of this my parents now have multiple guns in the house. Its up to US to educate the generations about the proper use and handling of guns. With this knowledge, there is no fear of guns only respect.

An armed society is a polite society. Those states that strictly limit gun ownership have seen an increase in violent crimes (see Illinois and Connecticut). Those states that allow gun ownership and conceal carry permits have seen a decrease in violent crimes. Restricting guns to law-abiding citizens will not stop criminals from using guns to commit violent crimes. We have laws on the books that are not enforced – 45% reduction in enforcement under this administration. (Fast & Furious?) Gun ownership, appropriate training, conceal carry permits are all good.

Do I even have to mention the irony that this administration is sending weapons to Egypt and Syria, and at the same time desiring to strip weapons from US Citizens who are guaranteed the right to bear arms by our own Constitution?

The proper response is a return to strong families, respect for life and liberty, and personal responsibility through enforcement of the law.

Better yet, keep your kids home and school them yourself. At least they will learn relevant education. If you have time to stand in school with a gun, then you have time to oversee education curriculum.

some of those parents aren’t stable… some encourage their kids to fight… or fight kids ‘for their kids’… mental health issues affect parents, too, sadly.

i don’t mean to flame the suggestion out of hand… with the appropriate training and psychiatric assessment, i would not argue… the same as with the teachers.

the biggest ‘if’ is see is that ‘if something bad happens,’ many would find themselves focused on their kiddo and that could limit their effective response. that said, i know that most parents will protect any kiddo they can, whenever they can.

as a culture we have become so protective we sometimes slip into indulgence, instead.

Ask the parents that are afraid of guns. Unless it’s a toy gun, and that might need to be bright orange or green, it’s to be feared.

I’d be willing to volunteer at least one day a month. We could probably do it less often if we eliminated this culture of fear. A gun doesn’t shoot itself.

I agree, but common sense means nothing to the anti-gunners. There is enough waste in education budgets to put 20 policemen at every school. But protecting children is not the primary focus here; preventing the exercise of Constitutional rights is. Never let a good crisis go to waste.

The Israel children were being targeted and they sent armed bodyguards on hikes & field trips too. Let’s Protect Our Children. My guess is we’re going to hear silly excuses about how we cannot afford this when $220K for Congressional water bottles, subsidies for salmon farmers in the Sandy bill are all considered normal costs. This is worth the extra cost. Bring it on – maybe I’ll actually get something for my 60 cents out of every dollar serf fee.

Bingo Winged One! What LaPierre suggested would help, but a dozen armed faculty on campus is better. We hear stories of teachers who risked and sometimes sacrificed their own lives for “their kids”, and parents trust these people to watch over and teach their young ones. I say if a teacher has a carry permit (or lives in a state where none is required) let them carry!
