‘Best Moment Ever’ or ‘Over the Top’? CNBC Anchor Takes Dem. Senator to Task for Fiscal Cliff Debates

(Photo: CNBC)
A recent interview by CNBC’s Maria Bartiromo has been getting traction on both left-leaning and right-leaning sites since it originally aired on Thursday, with some throwing up their hands in applause and others saying she should apologize.
Bartiromo was interviewing Democratic Senator Ben Cardin of Maryland about the “fiscal cliff’ debates, and started off the discussion with a question that has been on the minds of many Americans for months (if not years).
“Are you guys incompetent, or what?” she askes the senator, noting that both Republicans and Democrats accuse each other of not having a “balanced approach.”
“I mean, if you can’t do this, if you can’t do what the American people pay you to do, why don’t you just step aside and put somebody in there who can actually get a deal done?” she continued in a no-nonsense tone.
After Cardin blames Republican Speaker of the House John Boehner for preventing the process from “moving forward,” saying Democrats have been ready, Bartiromo proceeds with little patience and little expectation of a straight answer:
“So how come you’re not moving forward? What’s the problem? Because the American people are so tired of this, and they are really tired of the lawmakers thinking that the American people are stupid. You can’t keep coming on the show every week saying the same thing– ‘it’s not a balanced approach.’”
Laughing in disbelief and shaking her head as Cardin says his party has been ready for six months to a year to “move forward,” Bartiromo sticks her hand toward the screen and interrogates the senator, asking if he would be willing to amend the tax code to obtain the additional revenue the government is demanding.
When Cardin fumbles and replies “no” to all her questions, she summarizes: “You’re talking about $1.2 trillion in revenue, but you’re not prepared to put anything on the table. People are not stupid!”
But when Cardin repeats the Democrat line of raising taxes on the rich to solve the crisis, Bartiromo got to the crux of the matter and dismissed the sitting senator:
“That’s all you want to do. That’s it. It’s your way or the highway. Raise the rates on the rich. No other way. Your way or the highway. That’s it…That’s where we are. Thank you, Senator.”
Cardin complains that Bartiromo didn’t let her answer the questions, and she responds that he’s answered them “clearly.”
After the interview, the floor erupts in applause for Bartiromo and she laughs, burying her face in her hand.
“Traders on the floor have been watching the show, that’s all I’m gonna say,” she says with a laugh.

Posted on December 22, 2012 at 7:31pmWhat else is scary, is that 99.9% of the people and these Financial “experts” are clueless about our Monetary system.
Let me make it simple for all.
The United States Government is a Private Corporation that is Insolvent.
It must Borrow “Money” with INTEREST from the Federal Reserve PRIVATE BANK to pay it’s employees and the “Entitled”.
Whether it is called TARP, Jobs Stimulus, QE 1, 2, or 3, it is still just another LOAN from the BANK.
We exchange T-Bills (IOUs backed by America’s Assets) with the Bank for their NOTES, with INTEREST ATTACHED to those notes.
Since we could not Buy back our T-Bonds, The Bank sold them off to China and others.
Over 5 Trillion Dollars worth of America’s T-Bonds have been sold.
If these holders make a “run on the bank” we are screwed. We will have to borrow more with interest
and devalue our dollar, hurting us and ******* off the people by devaluing the “money” we just gave them, OR we have to surrender collateral worth 5 Trillion.
Thomas Edison Said:
“If the nation can issue a dollar bond, it can also issue a dollar bill. The element that makes the bond good, makes the bill good, also. The difference, between the bond and the bill, is that the bond lets the money-broker collect twice the amount of the bond, and an additional 20%. Whereas the currency, the honest sort, provided by the Constitution, pays nobody, but those, who contribute in some useful way.”

Here is one reason why:
“Let me control a peoples currency and I care not who makes their laws.”
– Meyer Nathaniel Rothschild in a speech to a gathering of world bankers February 12, 1912, a requote of his ancestor Mayer Amschel.
They don’t care about left or right. They just made that game up, to divide, distract and confuse the people.
A whack-a-mole game, if you will.
““Whoever controls the volume of money in any country is absolute master of all industry and commerce.”
– President James A. Garfield, assassinated 1881
~~~~~~~~~~
The INVISIBLE GOVERNMENT is another reason why DemocRAT or RepubliCON makes no difference:
“This [Federal Reserve Act] establishes the most gigantic trust on earth. When the President Wilson signs this bill, the INVISIBLE GOVERNMENT of the monetary power will be legalized….the worst legislative crime of the ages is perpetrated by this banking and currency bill. From now on, depressions will be scientifically created.”
– Charles A. Lindbergh, Sr., 1913
“Behind the ostensible government sits enthroned an INVISIBLE GOVERNMENT owing no allegiance and acknowledging no responsibility to the people. To destroy this INVISIBLE GOVERNMENT, to befoul the unholy alliance between corrupt business and corrupt politics is the first task of the statesmanship of today.”
– Theodore Roosevelt
Posted on December 22, 2012 at 8:10pmWell isn’t that cute! This woman is angling for a job at FOX with her Hannity-like interview, not even letting the guy speak. I guess her “interview” technique gets points because she frustrated the Senator.
She’s right though. Americans aren’t stupid. Boehner’s “plan B,” which was basically a wish list of everything the Tea Party could hope for – except for that marginal tax rate on the top 0.1% of Americans, the millionaires and billionaires – couldn’t pass. Even a bill that had zero possibility of passing in the Senate couldn’t even pass in the House, even as a meaningless political gesture. In other words, Republicans couldn’t even whip the votes to pass their own legislation.
Though 60% of Americans support raising the marginal tax rate on those making more than $250K, Tea Party members shut down that idea even for those making $1000K, despite getting every thing else they could possibly dream for. “We the People” indeed.
The Republican party is held hostage to the Tea Party and is incapable of trying to govern. Republicans themselves can’t even come up with legislation they can pass in the House as “Plan B” shows.
She’s right, Americans aren’t stupid and they know who is pushing us off the cliff.
You’re a moron. You could tax those “Top 2%” at 100% of their income and you’d get enough
revenue to run the fed gov for 8 DAYS. The taxation part of this is nothing but a diversion in order
to distract everyone away from the REAL issue —– SPENDING.
We DO NOT have a revenue problem. We have a SPENDING PROBLEM.
We take in $1.5 Trillion in revenues —– We spend $3 Trillion. Its not rocket science.
Those Tea Party members are the ONLY sane voices in the entire government right now.
They’re not going to pass tax increases because it doesnt SOLVE THE PROBLEM.
Why give DC even more money when they are COMPLETELY irresponsible with what we give them now?
They came up with a process and said if we don’t agree then this (the cliff) happens. It was obvious they weren’t going to agree.
Both sides get to blame the other when the inevitable occurs, and their constituents get to believe that their guy tried. No one is labeled as raising taxes on the middle class, and no one takes the heat for cutting the defense budget.
They are stupid when it comes to running the country, but smart when it comes to keeping their jobs.
You have finally witnessed an honest journalist. Maria hit conservatives too. Yet, if Americans were smart, there should be 95% that say to tax some one else, as long as it costs themselves nothing. They have learned a fatal tactic – the majority can vote themselves all kinds of freebies with no concern for the wealthy who pay. But if no one is wealthy, then who pays? Sure, there will always be some who can out wit the system and stay wealthy but in a lot fewer numbers. What is needed is a leader of ALL the people. Not leadership that uses the Alinsky style divide and conquer. Get ready, your standard of living will be going down with every one else’s. Quit believing that taxing the rich will do anything to solve the spending problem. Your not Al Sharpton by any chance, are you?
Posted on December 23, 2012 at 5:36amAnd not one of the posters offered the ultimate solution to the mess we have now!
It’s called the FAIR TAX and it takes the decisions for taxes out of the hands of the corrupt political class. Everybody pays 22% sales tax on “new” goods like clothes, cars and homes. No tax is paid if the item is ‘used.” No personal or corporate income taxes and no inheritance tax.
When you see an absolute incompetant like Senator Cardin parrot the political talking points of his party, don’t you think it’s time to take these clowns out of the tax code equation? Will we have to have a deep depression in this country to get the FAIR TAX and get rid of the FED?
The absolute absurity of the situation is represented by a man like Charlie Rangle. He was a once powerful US House committee chairman who was responsible for making tax code while he enjoyed not paying taxes on incomes from a rental home he owned in the islands; or, there’s John “I served in Viet Nam” Kerry, who bought a yacht a few years back and registered it in another state to avoid paying heavy MA taxes.
Start demanding the FAIR TAX, dissolving the FED and our withdrawal fronm the UN.
Posted on December 23, 2012 at 7:37amSendthemeteors, you truly are part of the problem and not the solution to our woes. We don’t run our government on polls. It’s bad enough we let the morons elect our president, but we won’t let them make the laws too, without a fight. About 47 percent of the voting public did not vote for Obama. That may not be the majority, but it’s a huge amount of people. We may not be represented by the president but we are by our congress. The progressives will not run roughshod over this country.
I am nowhere near the two percent of the top income level, but it p*sses me off when people like you demand others pay more in taxes, but if you had to pay more or lost any of your entitlements, you’d be crying big progressive crocodile tears about how unfair the system is towards you. At the end of the day, most of us (not just the two percent) will be paying higher taxes and entitlements will be cut. Get used to the idea. The free ride is just about over.
Someone has been listening to Mark Levin i see. Yes but if your raise taxes at 1.4 trillion and you cut the Pentagon’s wasteful spending and yes reform entitlements, and invest in infrastructure. which is the Presidents side of the deal you would cut the deficit and fix our government waste. But Not raising taxes, lowering corporate tax rates on companies that at the end of the year pay 0% effective taxes cause of the subsidies and tax breaks they enjoy. Like GE who got a refund check from the Government and Oil companies, the most profitable industry in human history still get subsidized from the government. So wake up people can’t cut 16 trillion in debt by just cutting spending. MORONS
You are the moron who doesn’t understand a thing about money or business. I am a small 5 man coorporation. I and all of my employees pay income tax on everything we make, just like every other coorporate employee in America. If I am lucky enough to make a profit the government will take part of that also. So any coorporate owner with any sense would take that profit and re-invest it back into the company rather that pay it to a corrupt, irresponsible self serving government. And guess what? If I purchase new equipment for my company in lieu of coorporate tax, then the people who built that equipment get to keep their jobs and pay income taxes.
This is how economics works.
Instead of despising people who work hard and invest in their companies to protect their interest and the interest of their employees, you should applaud them. This is what made America great and people like you want to destroy it in favor of bitterness and class warfare instead of going and getting it for yourself.
Posted on December 23, 2012 at 2:12pmAt 2:17 in the video, CNBC quotes Sen. Cardin as saying “Social Security has not added to the deficit.”
This talking point has been repeated by many Democrats lately, and is a complete lie. Social Security’s outflows have exceeded its inflows by $100-150 billion per year since summer of 2010. So any claims that Social Security is not contributing to the deficit are either ignorant or dishonest.
On page 10 of the 2012 Trustees Report for Social Security, it says: “In 2011, Social Security’s cost continued to exceed both the program’s tax income and its non-interest income, a trend that the Trustees project to continue throughout the short-range period and beyond. The 2011 deficit of tax income relative to cost was $148 billion, and the projected 2012 deficit is $165 billion.”
Where is the MainStreamMedia on these repeated falsehoods? Covering up the truth as usual? (of course they are)
At least Maria slammed Cardin for his dishonest talking point about Dems wanting a “balanced” approach without any real spending cuts. She should have corrected his Social Security lie, too — before CNBC put it up on the screen.
Posted on December 23, 2012 at 7:20pmMy “Law Professor” explains that our Government was a Trust before it became a Corporation.
The People Created that trust for the benefit of the people.
That means that the People are the Grantors/Administrators and Beneficiaries.
That means that ALL Government Employees are TRUSTEES, From the Lowest position all the way to the President and even the Supreme Court Justice.
Trustees take orders from the Grantor/Administrator.
Trustees can never administrate authority or take anything from the Beneficiaires.
The TRUSTEES are the Grantor’s and Beneficiaries Servant. (I.E. Indentured Public Servant)
NO ONE OWNS YOU !!!!
No one has Authority over you, unless you break the Law, then and only then, you can be detained by a law enforcement officer.
~~~~~~~~~~
Government = A Trust
The People = Boss (Grantor)
The President and every government employee below him = Servant (trustee)
The People = Bosses’ Family (beneficiary)
When they began managing America from the De-Facto Government in 1871, that changed everything. They Trademarked the Name ‘United States Government’ and made a Corporation under that name. They have been operating as a Corp ever since.
We are Still the Creators of the Corp. which makes us Grantors/Executors.
We are still beneficiaries of the Corp. and “Stockholders”.
ANY Public Servant is still a TRUSTEE and /or “employee” of the Corp.

Because Saddam was about to start purchasing oil with their own currency. This is all about the dollar bill. It will be worth absolutely nothing come next year.. Start storing food, investing in gold and silver, owning and operating a gun, self defense, basic survival instinct skills, growing your own food and most importantly prayer and community. There is no political solution to our problems. However, God wins, but not without tribulation.. There’s no more time to waste. Many financial advisors and economists warn us to prepare for next year. I’m more than certain readers of the blaze are aware of this. But it’s important to spread this to others as well because as the chaos increases the select few that are able to keep their balance and focus during these dark times are going to determine how much chaos will be experienced.

WTF can we please get rid of this useless ******* Boehner, and get someone who is a real conservative. I hear Allen West has some free time, or Louie Gohmert is great too. Just anyone who will not only stand, but take on the Dem, and for God sake fight for something instead of just defending tired, old, moderate positions. How about a flat tax? Everyone pays the exact same amount rich people buy more expensive stuff so THEY NATURALLY PAY MORE TAXES! How stupid do these incompetent children think we are.

Posted on December 22, 2012 at 6:39pmSo good to hear real questions being asked. The news ignorant media isn’t asking the questions that need to be asked and than they allow the people who they are interviewing to spin and spin and spin. And than they go on as if asking questions are their job, it does not matter whether the answer was spin or creditable or truth. So What Is That?
Kathrine H. talked about the Libya report and it said nothing. We the people paid for a report that did not answer one question we wanted answered and Kathrine talked as if it was a creditable report. I could not listen to it. Was she too tired to think about what she is talking about?

Raise taxes on the rich and you’ll have enough “revenue” top run the fed. government for 8 days, then what?

Posted on December 22, 2012 at 6:13pmShe was great! She speaks for the American public. (Don’t you even think of apologizing, Maria.) Dems are PLAYING with Boehner and Americans–and laughing behind our backs as they do it. If Boehner caves on increased taxes for the wealthy, Obama will want something else that’s obnoxious, like giving him a blank check on the debt ceiling. There’s no end to what Obama wants and virtually nothing he’s prepared to give. The Democrats are willing to let him become a dictator. Bravo, Ms. Bartiromo!

Posted on December 22, 2012 at 6:21pmThe GOP is part of the problem, just as the demon-craps. The American people are stupid, because they keep voting these imbecilic, self serving leaders back into office even after they demonstrate no ability to correct our fiscal issues, while continuing to spend on special pork projects to promote their own welfare and personal future. In my apinion the actions of the house, the Senate and the President is treason to the U.S. as they are promoting the fall of our once great country. But, at least Maria is not afraid to hold them accountable. Please, media members, keep the heat on all of them, or before to long you won’t be able to report anything, except what is officially sanctioned by our communist government.

Posted on December 23, 2012 at 2:31pmI actually disagree on folding. I think the right strategy is to completely fold, give the Democrats 100% of what they want. We need to crash. There are too many criminals benefiting from our current corrupt system. The only way to break them loose is to collapse the economy and reset it.
Otherwise the federal government, which is the largest criminal conspiracy in world history, will continue to manipulate us all via tax code (choosing winners and losers), law, and code.
Only with a depression do we have the chance to chase out the rats and find some sensible people to run government. We all know how stupid these fools sound. They seem to think that they are still fooling us. And to an extent they have. We now have low voter turnout, a minority of people electing these con-men and women, and a majority that do not understand our economic system, currency (manipulation) nor does anyone understand our tax code. All of this is on purpose. Break it down, rebuilt it, resetting states rights and reducing the federal government to a minimum of services and power.

There are plenty of public programs, originated by our federal and state legislators, that will allow you to get your G.E.D. for little to no cost. Then, perhaps, you’ll have a better outlook on life and not blame others for your misery.

After ten years of achieving more wealth then at any time in our countries history they deserve at least ten more years of tax breaks. So what if 98% of the country will pay $2500 more. The millionaires and billionaires need those tax breaks. Thank God for the Tea Party and their admiration for the elites of our country don’t give in. Keep our country hostage so that the 2% get what they want. God Guns and Gold!

Even if the democrats got what they wanted on taxing the rich it would only raise enough money to cover eight or so days of government spending. Then you would have the (intended) consequences of added unemployment, stalled capital investment, a reduction in tax collection, and an increase on entitlement spending.
When you spend too much, it’s time to start cutting back on things you don’t need. It’s called prioritation and you don’t seem to have a clue about how to do this.
As written, “thou shall not covet”, and I will not begrudge anyone who earns their money honestly for providing a service or product that others want or need. Just remember that the money in the pocket of the wealthy is only a fraction of the money the company earned to pay wages, retirement, pensions, healthcare, for millions across the country.
Give me my tri-cornered hat anyday to battle the likes of you, the entitlement class. You truly are brainwashed and jealous.
I hope the three ghosts of Christmas come to visit you soon. Merry Christmas.

It’s a non fix, BUT it does pit the millions and millions of entitled to se the wealthy as their enemy and Obama as the whiute hat that’s going to protect them from the rich ..
