Ted Nugent’s ‘Gun Country’ Show Cancelled Following Shooting Massacre — Agree or Disagree?

Almost as quickly as Ted Nugent’s show launched on the Discovery Channel this past October, it has ended. The network, in the wake of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting, announced that the program, titled, “Ted Nugent’s Gun Country,” will be discontinued. Considering sensitivities surrounding the horrific rampage and renewed calls among some leaders for increased gun control, Discovery’s decision is not entirely surprising.

But this isn’t the only show the network has canned following the shooting. “American Guns,” another Discovery series, was also cancelled, with executives declining to give definitive reasons for the removal of either show from its scheduled programming.

Discovery was purportedly pushed heavily on social media to take action on programs involving firearms, thus many assume that their inevitable decision was rooted in pressures following the horrific event that left 20 schoolchildren dead (and eight adults, including Adam Lanza, the shooter).

Discovery Cancels Ted Nugents Gun Country Following Sandy Hook Massacre

Nugent, for one, has been anything but silent in the wake of the tragedy. On Tuesday, he penned an open letter in the Washington Times, addressing the Sandy Hook shooting. In it, he was candid about his views on the matter, noting that he believes that more laws and regulations will do little to solve the problem.

Rather that legislative action, the rocker recommended looking at culture as the main contributing factor leading to societal chaos. Read a portion of his comments, below:

The heart of the matter is that our Humpty Dumpty culture has taken a great fall.

Like an iceberg, we only periodically see the psychotic manifestation, the tip of our shattered culture, but what lies just beneath the surface is a gigantic cultural cancer that is rotting America from within.

The ugly and dangerous truth is that we live in an embarrassing, politically correct culture that exalts and rejoices in the bizarre; aggressively promotes an “anything goes” value system; and vilifies, condemns and mocks traditional societal values and customs at every opportunity.

We’ve embraced a culture of contempt that attacks the very institutions that make for a healthy and strong society, and then we’re shocked when it spirals out of control. The only thing I’m shocked about is that anybody is shocked.

Watch the musician chat about gun control, below:

As for Nugent’s show, the ratings were apparently not very strong to begin with, giving the network more than one potential reason not to continue with “Gun Country.” However, “American Guns” was said to be much more popular, leading to increased speculation surrounding the motivation for removing the shows.

What do you think about Discovery’s alleged decision to separate itself from shows surrounding firearms? Is it smart and sensible — or do you find it unpalatable?

Take the poll, below:

Dude, we are talking about the Discovery Channel. They are all about leftist agenda, but apparently just not beneath ditching their principles every once in awhile to make a buck off the tooth-less, inbred yokels that I’m sure they picture as Ted’s target audience. This CYA move is very predictable in my mind, definitely less of a surprise than giving Ted a show in the first place?!

They (the commie left) are organized…..I’m sure it is easy for them to get 1,000 people on a social network campaign. And when you are getting 1,000 tweets an hour you will feel like the world is against you, or your activity (putting on certain shows).

Unfortunately the decent people of the world have been cast in an outcast sort of light, and we are ashamed to click that “like” button for what ever reason….

Xiccarph, nice imagery and metaphorical language.

Actually this story is a week old. The Blaze was – somehow! – was a little slow on this news item. If by now anyone is surprised by this they ought to just go look into their bathroom mirror and then slap themselves for being so stupid.

The majority of Americans are offended by the language of people like Nugent and some other TV hosts. Nugent would probably have the audience to support a gun show if he’d stayed out of politics. But America is a capitalistic country and money is king. His audience, which was never that large, fell like a rock with every political statement he made. Plus, Discovery saw that he was tarnishing their brand with the majority of Americans. Discovery, like every company in this capitalistic country of ours, is in the business of making money. Nugent was losing them business with his political statements, rather than gaining them business. So he’s gone. That’s just business, nothing personal. This is about money not politics.

I wish there was another way to express this, but there isn’t.
      YOU are a MORON.
In your little make believe world, The Discovery Channel had never apparently never heard of Ted Nugent before giving him a show. They had never heard that Ted Nugent spoke in the political realm. They couldn’t have known what his politics were and only found out after he made some statements (all true, by the way) about the Sandy Hook shootings.
The only kind of capitalism that The Discovery Channel practices is CRONY capitalism.

@sendthemeteors Contrary to your claim that it was business and not political you already admitted that the pressure came from people that disagreed with Nugent politically. Therefore, it was political. I loved the show and was one of the very few reasons for me to watch their programming. So ironically it appears that Nugent was correct in saying that part of the problem is political correctness in our society.

Ol’ Chrissy Mathews says I can’t say monkeying, watermelon (even if I want to eat one myself), shuck and jive, urban, angry, Chicago, Founding Father, kitchen, privileged, professor, food stamp, or use a dog whistle (for some reason) without being racist. And of course there’s still n!gg3r, you people, black, *****, boy, and darky. Of course the most racist thing anyone can say today is, “I’m a conservative.”

Even Cops have been known to takeout off duty cops as an example. But they have things like City appointed Lawyers & City insurance. If a civilian kills or wounds a person they are “LIABLE”

Another example of political correctness gone crazy. I agree 100% with Teds letter. It is the same thing with God. The left wants God out of everything and when something happens they are the first to say “how could God let this happen?” They are shocked when God complies with their demands. I blame this stuff on the person that does the killings. But if the left is looking to blame someone, they should look in the mirror and then read teds letter.

Apparently the Second Amendment freedoms mean more in the former Confederacy than it does in the Union North. Although I see no need for civilians to own functioning M-2 Automatic Weapons, the second Amendment gives them the freedom to do so and if they can afford the high cost of ownership then let them spend it, it’s their money. I just want to be able to buy a semi auto .22 plinker to keep my shooting skills up. Because if there is a ban on ALL “Semi-Auto” fire arms then the lowly .22 rimfire will be gone also.
This is the Democrats taking us back to the 18th Century on firearms owner ship since then only bolt/lever action rifles will be available to civilian shooters. And then politicians will have the power of the gun to keep them in office just look at how Russia, China and other nations treat civilians when they have no guns to defend themselves. It is either the Gov’t or Mercenary Rebels that steal from the citizens to control them with the fear of death because they are the only ones with guns. If the people have guns then this does not happen look at Switzerland where all adults of military age are trained in the military and issued a military firearm to defend the country from invasion and how many gun deaths and violence is there there?

Cite your sources for this statement. You are correct in your statement that there is much less of a demand for liberal talk-radio. Rush and the other crazies certainly do dominate the airwaves on AM radio.
