Michael Moore: Americans Buy Guns Because ‘We’re a Very Frightened People’ With an Unresolved ‘Race Problem’

Liberal filmmaker Michael Moore said the reason Americans buy guns is “we’re a very frightened people” with an unresolved “race problem.”

“I think we’ve been frightened ever since we landed on these shores,” Moore said, speaking to Current TV for a broadcast of his 10-year-old film “Bowling for Columbine” about the Columbine High School massacre. “We were frightened of the native people, we were frightened of the slaves we brought over — as we should have been. And those in power have known how to manipulate us with fear.”

He said one reason he wanted to make “Bowling for Columbine” was to examine “how fear is used to the point where everybody feels like they’ve got to have a gun in the house.”

“We’ve got over a quarter-billion guns in people’s homes. And they’re mostly in the suburbs and rural areas where there is virtually no crime and no murder. So why is that? What are they really afraid of? What do they think of — who’s going to break into the house?” he asked.

“Do they think it’s little freckled-face Jimmy down the street? I don’t think so. I don’t think that’s who they’re afraid of. And it cuts down to the heart of our race problem that we still haven’t resolved,” Moore said.

      Part of the unresolved race problems is that we have blacks (12.5% of the total population) doing half of the nations murders per year. If black murder rates were equal to whites, we would drop the nation’s murder rate by almost 40%.

I, in turn, will likely die fighting to maintain the God given rights from those who would try to take them from me and fellow citizens.       It’s like that in the cities because the Progressive agenda is to keep cities “gun free” in order to “protect” people. Yes, Michael, it’s your friends who have either created or perpetuated this problem.

      I wonder if citizens of NY, LA, Chicago, Detroit, etc. were to get trained and carry concealed weapons if the crime rates wouldn’t substantially drop. I wonder if citizens were allowed to purchase fully automatic rifles if the gang population wouldn’t thin out a bit. Ya, that’s going far, but it’s only to try to make a point.

      I’m so darn tired of people (even former Marines) claiming we, “don’t really need a semi-automatic rifle” to defend ourselves. Same guys have out of state pistols with 15 rnd mags…oh, and are skilled at hand to hand combat and are skilled marksmen. I love you guys, but be reasonable.

      Bottom line: every person with wealth, power, or influence is either protected by armed security or has their own weapons. That’s fine. But, I DEMAND TO HAVE MINE TOO. Even if I’m uneducated, low income, & completely unimportant to anybody on earth except me, my wife and daughter.

      I take it REAL personal when somebody I don’t know or didn’t vote for tells me I can’t have what the Constitution guarantees. You might be NWO/Comm

    Facts are inconvenient things.

    Facts are, there is a LOT of violent crime in this country. Violent acts committed with hands, knives, and many other weapons besides guns.

    Guns save lives. Disproportionate to the numbers of people who are killed with them.

    If the fact that the majority of violent crime in the US is committed by black Americans (reference the FBIs Uniform Crime Reports and “The Color of Crime” report) happens to coincide with people using firearms to defend themselves, it’s an unfortunate coincidence, but a choice I’d rather NOT have taken away from me so me, my family, and my community can be victimized by criminals intent on doing grievous bodily harm.

    Now, if Mr. Moore could spread his wealth around (and not just his girth), maybe insure that I too have private, armed security, I might reconsider.

    Until that time, I own and train in the use of firearms.

    Could it be, Mr Moore, that the presence of that firepower, in the hands of people willing to use it to defend themselves, discourages criminals from operating in those areas? Could it be that criminals prefer not to get shot while commiting their crimes?

    Do you think, Mr Moore, that the Aurora murderer traveled about 20 miles, bypassing closer theaters, to a venue that banned guns to carry out his atrocious crime because he feared being quickly cut down by armed civilians?

    Could that be it, Mr Moore?

      Your comparison of shooter-density and gundensity between urban and rural is problematic. Rural intended victims, and rural bystander victims, of gun fire are vanishingly lower than urban victims.

      Worse, the urbanites can leave, the cities aren’t yet walled.

    I am so sick of Michael Moore’s claim to stupidity.

    As a proud owner of (won’t disclose how many but atleast 1 for the post) a gun, I can assure any read of my post that I don’t give a RATS A$$ if the person(s) assaulting my wife or in my home is/are white, black, yellow… They will be met with the same general response.

    Does anyone really care the skin color of the person when you need to protect family and property? I have never known anyone to stop before shooting to ask him/herself if the person breaking into their home is of the same race…… TOTALLY STUPID COMMENT MICHAEL MOORE.

    Michael Moore, in my opinion, should demonstrate some mental reservation.

    I am not frightened and I do not have an ‘unresolved race problem’. I moved into an ethnically and culturally pure community – Gemeinschaft – that is also isolated geographically and economically. He nor his ilk are welcome.

      MRUNNER, I do hope that works out for you in Michigan. I live in a Right To Work state, but the small city that I live outside of was run by unions for decades. They have now killed much of themselves off by destroying those businesses. While they were at it, those unions ran other businesses away, and their tactics kept even others from coming to the area. We are down to one major business manufacturer that is still unionized and it is on life support. No, I don’t want to see it fail, we need the employment in the area, but it is the union that is doing more damage than anybody else. But, we are left with so many sons of the previous union employees who think they can get rich right away by voting unions in. So many companies who remain here stay small enough to keep the unions out. It would really be nice to see business grow here and not have to worry about attacks by professional parasites. Oh yeah, for you trolls who ready to tell my that I am wrong, I’ve already been a member of three different unions in different areas of the country. Been there and done that.

Zombies always keep coming so when MM comes for my provisions I will aim for mass (plenty to aim for) start with the 30.06 and progress to the 12 gauge, 9mm and finally the 380.
