Did NBC’s David Gregory Violate D.C. Gun Law on National TV?

NBC’s David Gregory held up a magazine for ammunition on Sunday’s “Meet the Press.” (Image source: NBC)
NBC’s David Gregory on Sunday held up a high-capacity magazine for ammunition on national television, a possible violation of Washington, D.C. gun law.
Gregory was asking National Rifle Association CEO Wayne LaPierre whether the NRA was willing to cede any ground on new gun legislation following the Dec. 14 elementary school shooting in Newtown, Conn.
“Here is a magazine for ammunition that carries 30 bullets,” Gregory said on “Meet the Press,” holding it up. “Now isn’t it possible that if we got rid of these, if we replaced them and said, ‘Well, you could only have a magazine that carries five bullets or ten bullets,’ isn’t it just possible that we could reduce the carnage in a situation like Newtown?”
As blog The Patriot Perspective pointed out, Gregory’s demonstration may itself have been a violation of existing D.C. gun law, where “Meet the Press” tapes.
“No person in the District shall possess, sell, or transfer any large capacity ammunition feeding device regardless of whether the device is attached to a firearm. A ‘large capacity ammunition feeding device’ means a magazine, belt, drum, feed strip, or similar device that has a capacity of, or that can be readily restored or converted to accept, more than 10 rounds of ammunition,” D.C. code states. Violations may include a $1,000 fine or imprisonment for up to a year.
A representative from NBC did not immediately return an emailed request for comment.
In CONTROL, Glenn Beck presents a passionate, fact-based case for guns that reveals why gun control isn’t really about controlling guns at all; it’s about controlling us. Find out more HERE.

The AR is an excellent platform; for hunting and the range, 5 rounds is fine; for tac carb, or 3-gun I prefer the 30 rounders. cuts down on reload time…..and it’s all about time…..

Posted on December 23, 2012 at 3:39pmand that thirty round magazine made of steel, plastic and a spring did not kill anyone. It has not even been shown that the latest shooter used these mags.
For the first three days we were told that he was found with two pistols next to him, and that the AR was found in the back seat of his mom’s car
Then the investigator claimed that all wounds had to come from a rifle??
When is the MSM going to speak to Kevin Jennings?
Kevin Jennings is Obama’s pick for safe school Czar. What did he do to make schools safe?
Jennings claim to fame is teaching kids homosexuality in our schools. We know the gays have 64% of the syphilis, made up 57% of new HIV cases last year, but how does any of this make our schools safe?
When is the MSM going to ask real questions?
What video games did the shooter play?
They claimed he was Goth. Pontificate on this?
What music did he listen to?
The MSM called him a marksman. Did he shoot 4H air rifle, how about CMP small bore. was he or his mom and NRA member?
What movies did he watch?
Did he ever play any sports?
Did he ever go to church? What were his religious beliefs?
What kind of upbringing did he get from his dad? How often was his dad around? Did his dad teach him what it is to be a man?
What movies did he watch?
Was he currently going to school, working, or did he just sit home all day?
To my knowledge, the NRA has never shot anyone, but they do provide training for our police officers,

The problem was not the size or capacity of the gun, the problem was that children were left unsecured. The police got there ten minutes late. The maniac could have used a machete for all we know and it wouldn’t matter. The police got there too damn late. There’s nothing that could have stopped him from killing 20+ defenseless souls. The school was dependent on the Government to protect them. The school waited for the police to arrive, while 26 souls were left defenseless. These innocent souls could have been protected, but they got slaughtered because we have allowed our nation to be duped by the stupid progressive policies in place today. The problem was not that the maniac had firearms, the problem was that our children were not adequately protected in school. They were left with zero resources to oppose any intruder intent on causing great harm. This is the fault of senseless progressive policies. This maniac could have been put away way before any of his vicious intentions built up to this atrocity, but the closet Marxist organization, the ACLU, fought for maniacs to roam the streets freely.

http://www.cdc.gov/homeandrecreationalsafety/pdf/poison-issue-brief.pdf
Then there is this.
“Patrick K. O’Neil, who has been coroner since 1992, remembered overdose deaths being rare early in his career and growing steadily since 1999, before which more than one heroin-related death annually was unusual. Now, heroin overdoses are the second most common cause of accidental death in the area, preceded only by traffic accidents.”

Posted on December 23, 2012 at 9:35pmI think we should put a few facts on the table here.
- On the day of the Columbine shooting there were two police on duty at the school and one exchanged gunfire with the teenagers but he was outgunned. There was always at least one at the school. That didn’t stop the carnage.
- Virginia State had University police on campus. That didn’t stop the guy from committing the largest mass murder at a school by guns in American history.
- Jared Loughner kept killing people until he emptied his 31 bullet magazine. When he tried to put another magazine he was overpowered. Not before. If he’d had fewer bullets in his clip, he’d have killed and injured fewer people clearly. And there was a cop there, who never shot because he was was trained not to take a chance on killing innocent people.

The Virginia Tech shooting is a completely different situation. Campus police, are just like city police. They enforce parking violations, speeding tickets, do investigations…… They do not have an armed policeman in everybuilding, and is much differnet than a policeman that works at a public high school, middle school, or elementary school.
The Columbine school shooting did have an armed policeman, and he did exchange fire with the two killers, he slowed them down, and when he pressured them, they soon after turned their guns on their selves. Had he not been there, most likely more people would have died/
Jared Loughner was not in a school, and like the other shooters, he was nuts.
While he did have a thirty one round magazine (not a clip), most gun experts will tell you that the extra long mags generally do not function well. A well trained shooter can change mags in just over a second. Standard mags function better, are easier to conceal, and he could have just as easily done the same damage with two standard mags.
You keep wanting to take the action of a couple of nuts and then throw away the Bill of Rights. The gov does not give us those rights, but is under oath to protect those rights.
You can not get away from the facts. Socialist always take away guns. Hitler (yes, he was a socialist), Stalin, Mao, Castro….. They have to have a disarmed population.
Blacks in America are 12.5% of the pop, and do half the murders. t

Are you saying their presence didn’t make a bit of difference? Any resistance is better than no resistance. I know liberals would rather kneel and live like slaves instead of having to stand on their two own feet and fight for their freedom, but can you idiots at least make some logical sense and show some kind of willingness to go beyond the call of duty when it involves protecting the lives of school children?
Are you suggesting that having no police officers present, or any formidable opposition, is better than having at least some resistance present and a chance to fight back? La Pierre doesn’t represent the majority of gun owners. From what I can observe, most Conservatives and gun owners would rather we allow local school districts to decide their own security policies, some of which may include allowing certified, train, and licensed school staff members to carry concealed in the case of such emergencies only. But what we can not allow is for there to be no security measures in place. Please prove to me, by facts, that incidents like these, wherein no formidable opposition was present, outcomes are less deadly and severe. Are you willing to demand that courts, state capitols, banks, large events, celebrities, wealthy citizens, mayors, politicians, private schools, dance clubs, and airports forego the use of armed guards?

Guns can be used for positive. 4H shooting clubs, Olympic shooting competitions, trap and skeet, hunting, IDPA, police use, military use, heck- the Secret Service use guns to protect the president and his family.
Do you wish to take guns away from those that protect the president? If his little girls get armed men to guard them, do my little girls not deserve the same?
Heroine has no positive uses. It is a non legal narcotic.
Grow up, and go take a class on logic, critical thinking, and perhaps learn how to debate before you come hang out with adults and make a fool of yourself again,

Posted on December 24, 2012 at 8:47amNobody ever mentions this but the ’94 ban didn’t prevent the worst shootout in American history either – the North Hollywood B of A robbery where 2 guys with fully auto AKs shot thousands of rounds. I don’t believe they killed anyone but they injured a whole bunch.
Mags made post ’94 are the only ones that were banned under the ’94 law. Gregory (or any of us) could have gotten a ‘pre-ban’ mag and not be in violation. I live in NY where the AWB is still in effect and pre-ban mags are not out of the ordinary. I don’t have any but we see them at the range all the time.

Posted on December 24, 2012 at 9:27amgood answer. The loon that shot up the theater in Colorado used a Rem 870 to do most of his damage. A shotgun holds 5 rounds with the magazine plug removed. He also had an M&P 15. He killed or shot 71 people, therefore he reloaded at least a couple of times. proves the point, that it only takes a sec to reload. Cops were there in 90 seconds, 71 people dead or injured….

Posted on December 24, 2012 at 9:28amEveryone should stop blaming the instrument: Firearm, Box Cutter (9/11), Airplanes (9/11), Automobiles (36,783 deaths last year), …, etc.
We should blame and start to look at the contributors that desensitize, and/or remove or lower inhibitions: Alcohol, Drugs, Hollywood, Violent Video Games, Music Genre, and Mental Illness.
The instrument has never jumped up off the table by itself to cause harm, nor has the instrument started all by itself to cause harm.
“Firearms stand next in importance to the constitution itself. They are the American people’s liberty teeth and keystone under independence … from the hour the Pilgrims landed to the present day, events, occurences and tendencies prove that to ensure peace security and happiness, the rifle and pistol are equally indispensable … the very atmosphere of firearms anywhere restrains evil interference — they deserve a place of honor with all that’s good.”

Posted on December 24, 2012 at 10:10amRANGERSKIMPY . . .You said, ” . . . that thirty round magazine made of steel, plastic and a spring did not kill anyone.” Your “argument” is that the device is not inherently evil. It is incapable of inflicting any harm on anyone unless there is a human force behind it. The same is true for heroin.
Ah, but guns have the potential to be used for good. If that is your argument, then what to do about coffee? cigarettes? Since their use has no capacity for improving the human condition, should they be illegal. Let me guess – they fall under the right to “the pursuit of happiness.” Now we’re back to heroin. What about cocaine? It is used by health professionals in pain management. It’s legal, but it’s also illegal.
Your problem, Ranger Skimpy, is that you want so badly to be right about guns that you’re willing to abandon logic and bastardize every other issue around it to sustain your personal fascinations. Here, I’ll show you . . .”The NRA has never shot anyone.” News flash! Neither has rap music. If you want to argue with the adults, then man up. Think and talk the truth. It’ll set you free!

Jared Loughner freaked out people at the local community college so much so that they strategically chose to sit next to the door. That is highly abnormal.
What do people normally do in class. they figure out who they are going to sit next to, to be able to gossip, to be their study partner, or to see the board. For your average every day person to think of security in a community college is so beyond the norm.
The point is that he should have been evaluated at that time.
There were campus police at Virginia Tech. Send Meteors TELLS US. Yay, Meteors loves us,Yes Meteors loves us. She tells us so.
Really Meteors? There were cops at Virginia Tech? Are you sssshhuuuure? It is not like we don;t know that there are campus police as universities & colleges.
If Send the Meteors really wanted to be helpful, he, she, it would tell us how many cops there were. The total number. How many are on each shift. How many have desk jobs. How many are away on training & vacation. So how many cops were there really at Virginia Tech on duty that day?
Universities have anywhere form 20,000 to 40,000 students. How do the # of cops at Virginia tech compare to other towns & universities of similar size? 20K to 40K is a small city.
Are the cops there fully trained? I kind of doubt security at a community college has the training & credentials to have the authority to put a psych hold on a student.

please tell me the last time a loaded firearm sitting on a table has jumped up and killed someone?
We do know that Contributing Factors have lead to violence by desensitizing and/or reducing inhibitions. Alcohol, Drugs, Hollywood, Music Genre, Violent Video Games, Religion, and Mental Illness are all contributing factors.
3000 people where murdered in 9/11 by people who used Box Cutters and Airplanes (instruments) to carry out this senseless act of violence. Yet, I see no ban on box cutters or airplanes. 353 murders where committed last year with a Rifle (FBI UCR 2011), 1668 murder with knives, 787 murders with Hands and Feet. Do we ban Hands and Feet or do we go after the contributing Factors. 36, 863 people were killed in automobile accidents last year. Yet, we still can buy cars.
UK Home Office reported for 2011 that there was 11,749 crimes committed with Firearms in the UK and Whales. How do you think gun control is working there?

Yes lets focus in on community college security. Is the security at a community college the Walmart type or fully trained Law Enforcement Officers (LEOs) that people feel comfortable to approach & & confident that they have the authority to act?
If a person is saying bizarre things & talking”word soup” & you have multiple witnesses & people feel the need to figure out their escape plan in case a classmate pops offs, are the LEOs at a community college authorized to put a psych hold on them. Or are these rent a cops?
I bet you have a high number of psych cases going into college than have it figured out where they are going to work after high school. They are away from home at least part of the time. It they have poor social skills college will be where they start spiraling faster down hill. In a number of classes it really helps to work cooperatively to pass. Yes some psychiatric problems start soon in adolescence & become apparent no later than the 20s. You would see it in college. So I ask you how are community college LEOs or security trained?
I figure that Meteors has the time to look it up. Yes she said she was traveling for business last week. Was it for a liberal non-profit advocacy group. It would explain their ability & willingness to go to a site where everything she hears is anathema to her world view.

Meteors was to focus on guns. She doesn’t want to mention the shrine or whatever Loughner & friends had in their backyard or was it his parent’s backyard. The one with the school & candles.
If Guns are the problem, then their should be no reason to take down the skull shrine & hide it. By hiding it, admits that you do not want to discuss it, because sooner or later you might ask if that is part of the problem.
I feel bad for Loughner’s parents. But I believe that they were part of the problem. They had at least 33% input into what he became. I believe that Loughner’s father put a lot of anti-social views into his head judging from his record.
Who puts up a skull shrine in their backyard?

I think we should put a few facts on the table here.
– On the day of the Columbine shooting there were two police on duty at the school and one exchanged gunfire with the teenagers but he was outgunned. There was always at least one at the school. That didn’t stop the carnage.
– Virginia State had University police on campus. That didn’t stop the guy from committing the largest mass murder at a school by guns in American history.
– Jared Loughner kept killing people until he emptied his 31 bullet magazine. When he tried to put another magazine he was overpowered. Not before. If he’d had fewer bullets in his clip, he’d have killed and injured fewer people clearly. And there was a cop there, who never shot because he was was trained not to take a chance on killing innocent people.

The founding fathers saw gun ownership as a right that already belonged to the people, and that is is the duty of the government to protect that right.
Daily, law abiding citizens stop crimes using guns. Daily, police use firearms to stop crimes. Daily, our military usees guns to stop evil.
We use guns to hunt, we use them for sport (to inclue the Olympics), and we protect the President with them.
Non legal drugs to not benefit anyone.
We can shot that gangster rap, violent video games, violent moves…. play a part in the violence in our society.
Not one of the mass murders have ever been tied to the NRA, 4H shooting programs, CMP…. All of the recent ones have been heavinly tied to violent vidoe games, the Goth stuff, and violent movies.
Once again, Kevin Jennings was Obama’s pick for safe school czar. His claim to fame was teaching homosexuality to school age children. He did nothing to keep our schools safe, but the MSM will not mention his name (neither will you), but you try to go after the NRA.
Socialist nations in the past always take away guns. Hitler, Mao, Stalin, castro…. all take away the guns, then they murdered millions of their own people.
The Rifle is what seperates the surf from the citizen.

Tell us about black on black violence?
Why is the liberal MSM so quiet on the subject?
Blacks are 12.5% of the population, but do half the nation’s murders. If we lower their murder rate to the same as whites, we will lower the nation’s murder rate by almost 40%
We in America lead the world in gun ownership. For every 100 people, we have 88 guns. There are 25 nations in the world with higher murder rates than us (including Russia, were it is very difficult to get a gun).
Honduras has 6.6 guns per 100 people but they have the highest murder rate in the world.
Lower guns in the hands of citizens does not lower murder rates, but it does increase the likelihood that the corrupt government will kill its own citizens
The Swiss have one of the lowest murder rates in the world, and they have an “assault rifle” in every house.

Posted on December 24, 2012 at 1:01pmWhen are we going to end the mainstream media’s hold on the Democrat liberal ignorati? The media used to report the news after it happened, but not they create the events in their effort to increase their ratings and hold on the government. I quit watching the mainstream media news after the election because as long as they are able to ignore the law and can exert their influence on what happens, elections in this country are a joke. This last election was rigged but the losing party is too timid to fight it. It is statistically impossible to achieve a 100% vote for one candidate in any secret ballot election and yet the Democrats achieved that in Philadelphia which is why they won Pennsylvania, as well as 200 or so other counties and or precincts. The only people that can correct this travesty is the U.S. Supreme Court. The other big lie is that photo ID being required to vote is voter suppression. Does anybody other than Michele Obama really believe that? We have trivialized federal voting to the point that it is a joke. The media and the liberal ignorati are pushing gun control laws as the panacea to end all violent crime in spite of the fact that this shooter broke 41 laws in the course of his crime, including killing his own mother to take her guns. The mall shooting in Oregon was stopped by a concealed weapon permit holder who drew down on the shooter limiting the deaths to two. Was that reported on the media? No, because it was against their anti-gun agend

The Second Amendment is to protect We The People’s Constitutional Right to defend ourselves from an attack. We The People need to be as equally armed as out attacker even if that attacker might someday be members of our tax paid employees!

Tyranny !!!! – That’s the 800lb gorilla in the room that no one wants to talk about. There are millions of hunters in the U.S., but that’s not what the 2nd amendment was intended to be about. I would suspect that there are an equal number of guys who don’t hunt much who have a weapon set aside for when the SHTF. THAT’S WHY THE 2ND AMENDMENT WAS WRITTEN !!!!!
When you have tyranny in government the next step is non-compliance, rebellion, chaos, revolution, or civil war. Why do you think they are pushing so hard for gun control right now? Well,,,,, the current administration has an agenda and they don’t want the people to be armed so they can force it on us. It’s in plain sight….you have three choices, submit to tyranny, arm yourself, or stick you head in the sand and kiss your @zz goodbye.
“When the people fear government, there is tyranny….when the government fears the people, there is freedom”
“If you will not fight for the right when you can easily win without bloodshed, if you will not fight when your victory will be sure and not to costly, you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a small chance of survival. There may even be a worse case, you may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves”. Winston Churchill

People must understand the real reason for the 2nd Amendment which was adopted on December 15, 1791, along with the rest of the Bill of Rights. The Courts ruled that the Second Amendment protects an individual’s right to possess a firearm, unconnected to service in a militia and to use that arm for lawful purposes, such as self-defense within the home. The idea being we needed to keep the power separated in the states and not the federal government. They knew that if the federal government because too powerful it would lead to tyranny. This is how the left SHOULD be doing this. All there other nonsense is in direct violation of their sworn oaths to protect and defend the constitution. It is a shame, that congressmen are not being brought up on charges for violating their oath.

Posted on December 24, 2012 at 2:04am@TexasKnight – Actually there have been 3 amendments made to the Constitution since 1962 (the 50 years mention in your post) – the 24th (revocation of voting rights) in 1962, the 25th (defining the process of presidential succession) in 1965, and the 26th (modifying the voting age to 18) in 1971.
As for a constitutional convention, only 1 has ever been called by the states – for the 21st amendment in 1933 repealing the the 18th amendment and effectively ending prohibition.

JUST THINK…….DC banned something that is a lot more likely to jam than a standard mag. More mags is the answer. I had several 15 rd. mags for my Glock 22. They were WAY hard to load, jammed whenever I started firing hard. They just had to go. Really improved me as a shooter. I place shots better. I keep a better count of shots fired and am ready with the next when she locks open. NO-ONE has the right to tell me I cannot have them, I just like the more reliable mags better. Posted on December 23, 2012 at 3:17pmCA’s Dianne Feinstein tried to manipulate that as well by having a mandatory “bullet button” instead of the standard magazine release installed. It’s another “safety” measure that can be easily defeated.
Feinstein is no genius by any measure of sanity, and the application of such devices defeat nothing.

Our “Bullet Button” was our answer to DiDi and her draconian law. Despite federal law dissolving in 2004, California kept our slightly less strict law on the books. The law reads “…remove feeding device with tools. A bullet tip is a tool”.
A rather ingenious device, the bullet button, replaces the standard magazine push button with parts that block normal manipulation of the magazine release without inserting a tool…or bullet tip. We are still restricted to 10 round magazines (that has not deterred criminals, re: North Hollywood bank robbery) in standard configured rifles. Make your AR15 “featureless” (not having enough features that create a so-called assault rifle, like “deadly” flash-hiders), and it is now totally legal to use your 20, 30, or 100 round magazines all day and night. Yes, legal to own, possess, and use standard capacity magazines here.
No state law covers or mentions the Bullet Button, it is solely a private invention. The DOJ has made no ruling on it…because they can’t. It not only renders the rifle legal by statute, but follows the letter of the law exactly.

They have numerous items that do exactly that. I chose the Radlock version of the bullet button – it lets me alternate between active mag release and CA compliant. They have nubs that can be attached to magazines, fingertip tools, magnetized covers…etc.

Mother of six says school kids deserve to be protected by armed, trained guards
By Gayle Trotter
Published December 22, 2012
Already, gun-rights opponents have begun scoffing at the notion of armed guards in our children’s schools. That doesn’t prevent the gun-rights opponent-in-chief from relying on a government-provided security detail to protect his own children.
On any given school day, no fewer than 6 marked Secret Service police cars surround the Sidwell Friends School, where the Obama girls attend. In these cars, good guys are ready to respond with deadly force to any threat of harm to the first daughters.
The Secret Service’s mere presence deters anyone who would attempt violence at the school founded by Quakers, who adhere to pacifism and nonviolent principles. In this haven of Northwest Washington, D.C., the pacifists depend on guns for protection.

I can have a federally approved gun cabinet yet, if a crook breaks into my home and manages to break into said federally approved gun cabinet, I will be charged with unsafe storage of guns.
And what about that Marine who took his gun to, New York was it? about a year ago, and ASKED how to go about checking his weapon, and then got charged for a weapon’s violation?
The rules are, even if you don’t know a particular law, if you break it, you get charged so…

Posted on December 23, 2012 at 2:52pmThis again shows the ignorance of their argument.
They, the ignorant media and liberals, have no idea how guns operate. It takes mere seconds to reload even a 5 or 10 round magazine, so what if you have to do it multiple times if you are intent on killing people.
So what if it added 15-30 seconds for the lunatic to fire the same 30 rounds. This argument is ridiculous and as always just a smokescreen for their real purpose…to BAN all LEGAL guns and only allow the ILLEGAL ONES that lunatics and criminals will always have.
Let’s see ALL government officials give up ALL their ARMED guards, secret service, etc, if guns aren’t important for self defense. If guns aren’t needed, give em up Obama. Lead the way. Never Happen.
Disarm ALL secret service, guards, FBI, police, ALL of them then let’s talk.

Posted on December 23, 2012 at 5:30pmExactly. While liberal’s are arguing whether maniacs should have the capacity to kill 5 children instead of 15, us conservatives are actually trying to put forth solutions that would better secure our schools and ensure that no kids are killed, but then again, that wouldn’t put blame on guns, and push forth an anti-gun agenda, would it?

They don’t realize that if you trace the history of the loss of character, morals and empathy in our society that it all comes down to the steady degradation of our society by the Progressives, starting with Teddy Roosevelt and accellerating with Woodrow Wilson. The great society of the sixties destroyed the black family and further destroyed our sense of community.
