Did NBC’s David Gregory Violate D.C. Gun Law on National TV?

NBC’s David Gregory on Sunday held up a high-capacity magazine for ammunition on national television, a possible violation of Washington, D.C. gun law.

Gregory was asking National Rifle Association CEO Wayne LaPierre whether the NRA was willing to cede any ground on new gun legislation following the Dec. 14 elementary school shooting in Newtown, Conn.

“Here is a magazine for ammunition that carries 30 bullets,” Gregory said on “Meet the Press,” holding it up. “Now isn’t it possible that if we got rid of these, if we replaced them and said, ‘Well, you could only have a magazine that carries five bullets or ten bullets,’ isn’t it just possible that we could reduce the carnage in a situation like Newtown?”

As blog The Patriot Perspective pointed out, Gregory’s demonstration may itself have been a violation of existing D.C. gun law, where “Meet the Press” tapes.

“No person in the District shall possess, sell, or transfer any large capacity ammunition feeding device regardless of whether the device is attached to a firearm. A ‘large capacity ammunition feeding device’ means a magazine, belt, drum, feed strip, or similar device that has a capacity of, or that can be readily restored or converted to accept, more than 10 rounds of ammunition,” D.C. code states. Violations may include a $1,000 fine or imprisonment for up to a year.

A representative from NBC did not immediately return an emailed request for comment.

In CONTROL, Glenn Beck presents a passionate, fact-based case for guns that reveals why gun control isn’t really about controlling guns at all; it’s about controlling us. Find out more HERE.

Ironic that a Leftist Activist is so stupid he has no idea what the laws in effect already are as he violates one.

There area thousand parts to this issue and David is happy by modifying one out the thousand. Great progress.
The NRA guys should have said :”…good, let’s do it and move on if that’s all it takes to make you happy”.

I think this was done to show that semi-auto gun owners should not be allowed to have more than one magazine for their firearms. Multiple magazines have nothing to do with how many booolets you can shoot. My carry gun is a revolver. I own many quick-load “magazines” for it. Ooops, maybe I shouldn’t have said that!

Love these bleeding heart liberals saying we need to ban assault rifles and high capacity magazines! Well I would love to ask them about a theoretical situation such as RED DAWN. Say they do ban these and more! If a foreign country say the Cartels of Mexico decide it’s safer here than there! Then all we have is low capacity magazines and small caliber weapons. Who do you think is going to win? Yeah, thought so!

He should have asked Gregory, “Did you know having one of those in your possesion is against the law in the district?”

It’s frustrating watching these traitors assault our constitutional liberties daily. While spending a trillion dollars and an entire decade tracking bin Laden – the federal government has made great strides in reshaping America into what bin Laden wanted us to be in the first place. So who the hell won the actual war?

So are they going to enforce the laws they have already, or will Gregory be ignored because he is on the anti gun bandwagon ? If anybody tries to take your gear, tell the judge about “Equal Enforcement.”
Unfortunately, in this rapidly evolving totalitarian state we call the US, the judge may well not go for it, which is exactly why the founders knew we needed to be able to take care of ourselves.

The weapons of 1776 were as high tech for the time as it could get and were needed to counter the others just as high tech for the time. Nothing has changed, if we cant have comparable weapons to any oppressive agencies, the 2nd has been violated, simple.

He would only violate laws if he was a Christian conservative doing this demonstration on television otherwise he isn’t violating laws. He wouldn’t even violate laws if he was a Fort Hood muslim terrorist who killed our beloved veterans. He wouldn’t violate laws if he was a black, liberal Attorney General who sold weapons to the Mexican drug cartel. He wouldn’t violate laws if he was the Secretary of State avoiding investigations regarding the death of an American Ambassador and a former Navy seals. He wouldn’t violate laws by putting the whole team who killed Bin Ladin all on an antiquated helicopter to be shot down due to lack of intel security in the White House. He wouldn’t violate laws if he was Charlie Rangel . He wouldn’t violate laws if he was a TSA agent sexually assaulting young children. See the pattern here.

The NRA and all pro-guns types should run with this. If someone had to drive outside of DC to buy the “prop” as you can’t buy it in the city and then drive it back in city boarders the current ban is not working and neither will any others.

David Gregory should hand himself in to authorities to show that the city ban is working and then also plead guilt. He should also name ever intern and/or producers who gave him the magazine prop and they too should be arrested. To show that laws work even fools who support them on a national scale need to face the punishment when they are too foolish to not know all detail of the same local laws.

“reduce the carnage…”. So then, what is his idea of the acceptable number of dead children???

Perhaps if we began looking at the underlying mental health issues that seem to be a common thread, we might be better served.

Limiting magazine capacity will only “apply” to the law-abiding who will then be even more outmatched, and create a black market for high capacity magazines… i.e. drugs, alcohol during prohibition, etc. Not that there is/was additional violence and more deaths associated with either of these.

Ignorance may be bliss, but if it continues all we will accomplish is to create more crime and more deaths overall.

It is clear that Islam can create fanatic jihad types; our culture is producing these nut-cases so it is time we treat our schools like we treat our airports and airplanes.
Put an air marshal type person in every school. Select one or more volunteers from the staff who agree to intense training and certification. They could range from janitor to top administrator. And put a big sign on the door that says the Marshal is on duty, but keep their identity secret
Add a good access control system to the doors, like a hotel, and all doors lock until a teacher allows access with a card. Each staff person carries a pendant that they can press to set off a school wide alert in an instant. Any security expert worth his pay could design a good system in an hour (I did it for years…).

@Mike Benton, that’s the best idea I’ve seen anyone come up with so far. Especially the panic button and the key card for the classroom doors. Plus all doors should have some sort of reinforcement in them so that bullets can’t penetrate. It’s awful that it should have to come down to this, but we MUST protect our children.

All this talk of limiting the capacity of the magazines is pointless. If the killer had stopped to reload after every 5 or 10 shots, who cares – who was going to stop him between reloads? The Columbine killers started in the cafeteria and ended in the library, they shot who they wanted whenever they wanted. They roamed the school at will. There was no one with the ability to stop them. It wasn’t a rampage, it was a barrel, and the staff and students were fish. Put up a sign that says “Gun Free Zone,” you might as well put one up that says “Everyone inside is totally helpless, fire at will.”

There you go…..outlawed equipment acquired easily ……you really think gun control laws can work? If they outlawsthem, the black market goes viral. For those who think guns are the problem, take a look at how many stabbings happen daily. In my town they outnumber guns crime about 27 to 1.
