Obama to Boehner: You Get Nothing I Get That for Free

This Nov. 16, 2012 file photo shows President Barack Obama, accompanied by House Speaker John Boehner of Ohio, speaking to reporters in the Roosevelt Room of the White House in Washington, as he hosted a meeting of the bipartisan, bicameral leadership of Congress to discuss the deficit and economy in Washington. (AP)

A Wall Street Journal report detailing the broken-down status of talks between President Barack Obama and House Speaker John Boehner on the year-end “fiscal cliff” reveals that Obama threatened to use both his inaugural and State of the Union speeches to blame Republicans if there’s no deal.

Negotiations reportedly came to a standstill after Boehner proposed increasing the tax rate on top earners:

Mr. Obama repeatedly lost patience with the speaker as negotiations faltered. In an Oval Office meeting last week, he told Mr. Boehner that if the sides didn’t reach agreement, he would use his inaugural address and his State of the Union speech to tell the country the Republicans were at fault.

At one point, according to notes taken by a participant, Mr. Boehner told the president, “I put $800 billion [in tax revenue] on the table. What do I get for that?”

“You get nothing,” the president said. “I get that for free.”

According to Politico, Obama was referring to Rep. Tom Cole (R-Okla.) and Senate Republicans who had already said they would be open to tax rate increases and therefore he didn’t need to concede anything.

Obama has been buoyed by his election victory, using it as an opportunity to remind Boehner he has the upper hand:

Mr. Obama insisted on raising tax rates for those with household income above $250,000. The House GOP wanted significant spending cuts and fundamental changes to Medicare and other entitlement programs in exchange for new tax revenue.

The president repeatedly reminded Mr. Boehner of the election results: “You’re asking me to accept Mitt Romney’s tax plan. Why would I do that?”

Before Obama flew to Hawaii for Christmas with his family on Friday, he said he was still confident the two sides could reach a “comprehensive deal” after using the holidays as a cooling-off period. Boehner used the weekly Republican address to say the House had done all it could to avert the cliff and that it was down to Obama to come up with a “balanced” approach.

Obama needs to understand that unlike the barrage of campaign ads people couldn’t avoid during the election the majority of his voting minions won’t watch the Inaugural and certainly not the state of the union address. He was elected by a machine. Not by informed, interested voters.

Boehner was uncontested in his district this past election cycle. He is in one of the most conservative districts in the country. He will either have to quit or be challenged by an amazing right wing candidate to be unseated.

I think the real problem is the idiot in the White House and his “mandate” from the voters. I want to puke every time I hear him say “The Country voted for my tax plan.” as if he has some huge majority support. Why didn’t the hypocrite apply that logic to obamacare since, if memory serves, about 70% of the nation opposed??

“obama does have huge support. a little over 50% voted for him as president. Less than that approve of his tax plan or his economic policies.

Where obama fails is that a 50.x% or less plurality gives you an uncontested mandate. He thinks it does. Politically it does if he can use the media, left wing, NGOs, control of the senate & the presidencies.

Nongovernent organizations like Pew Research are part of the extended governments.

Reasoning by analogy they are every bit part of the government as Roman allies , tribes adjacent to the empire were often part of the Roman military system. Rome supported these tribes. Gave them trade concessions, helped them in time of need against more hostile tribes & got intel from them. the Byzantines & Chinese did the same thing.

NGO’s & the media are used to conduct polling (including push polling & intel),develop idealogical policies, float trial balloons, red shirt party members when your party is out of power. And the left has more of them than we do.

It is going to be a tough fight. We are fighting a secular Santa Claus. In the end the Democrat Party policies have too many flaws to survive. So even if they win, they lose. But in the meantime we suffer. we have to fight ha

Our leaders used to work for the Best for the citizens, no longer, it’s all about their own legacy or showing how powerful they can be to bring Americans to their knees. They don’t care about Americans like our founding fathers. The constitution and Bill of Rights should still apply today.

Boehner is trying to keep America from going over the Cliff, to keep seniors SS payments coming in and obama want to hurt all of us, while teasing the poor people with obama money & phones, but the sad part of that is: That’s all they get, they have no life beyond the stupid phone & welfare pmts.

Someone ought to remind the First Family about the old saying of leading by example!

      >> THE ROYAL PRESIDENCY GONE WILD <<

The redistribution of $1.4 billion each year:

Taxpayers spent $1.4 billion dollars on everything from staffing, housing, flying and entertaining President Obama and his family last year, according to the author of a new book on taxpayer-funded presidential perks.
In comparison, British taxpayers spent just $57.8 million on the royal family.
Author Robert Keith Gray writes in “Presidential Perks Gone Royal” that Obama isn't the only president to have taken advantage of the expensive trappings of his office. But the amount of money spent on the first family, he argues, has risen tremendously under the Obama administration and needs to be reined in.
Gray told The Daily Caller that the $1.4 billion spent on the Obama family last year is the “total cost of the presidency,” factoring the cost of the “biggest staff in history at the highest wages ever,” a 50 percent increase in the numbers of appointed czars and an Air Force One “running with the frequency of a scheduled air line.”
Perspective: $1.4 billion is equal to spending seven times Mitt Romney’s entire net-worth every year. If Romney had to pay for Barack and Michelle’s lifestyle this year, he would have been bankrupted by the third week in February.

Now, can we please get back to talking about the evil, freeloading rich, who didn't build that?

GOPs fault my ****. The whole economic situation was caused by liberals and progressives. Under Carter, The Community Reinvestment act. Under Clinton, Carter plan put on steroids, ie Fannie and Freddie. Bush tried to get fannie and freddie regulated and dems aka libs and progressives stopped him. Libs and progressives took over congress in 2006 and the economy collapsed. And what caused the collapse, the housing market collapsed. Obama had a SUPER MAJORITY for the first 2 years of his first term and NO BUDGET WAS PASSED. What was passed was the largest tax increase, job killing take over of 1/6th of the US economy the good old OBAHITLERSTALINMAO KILL YA CARE bill. For 4 years, the senate, lib progressive controlled by the way, has not passed a budget, the republican house has several times and has been blocked because of the spending cuts in the bill. The libs and progressives do not want SPENDING CUTS, they want SPENDING INCREASES. The fiscal cliff lies squarely on little hitler’s shoulders and no one elses.

I am waiting for the look on the voter’s faces when they realize Obamacare isn’t free. it will be interesting. During the next few years, I will look for the silver lining. I can’t write off my mortgage interest, it just motivates me to pay off my house in the next two years. I will actually own my home. You want to tax my higher income at a higher rate, I just won’t make as much. This means more time fishing and with my family. I bought little houses so my utilities bills are low which means less time having to clean and maintain them. I cancelled cabled TV over two years ago so I am not wasting my time in front of the TV. Biggest expense was car insurance and registration so I downsized to two vehicles. I know how to cook, shop effectively and a grow a garden so my grocery bills are low we are eating healthier. All good things. We are Americans. We will survive this. The pendulum will swing. In the meantime, we should continue to enjoy our lives despite the corrupt politicians and the liberal agenda. Best part, I also have more time to send my congress and other politicians letters and make phone calls. You should, too.

My question is simple: WHERE are the REST OF THE REPUBLICANS? They gonna let Boehner carry all the water? The situation is going to become so critical that maybe the DEMS will step up to King Obama and tell him to STHU. I actually think the reason that many of us aren’t just hysterical about all of this is REVELATIONS. Those who have ears will hear that.
As far as the VERY INCORRECT STATEMENT: “GOD HELPS THOSE WHO HELP THEMSELVES” …you won’t find that anywhere in the BIBLE. GOD wants us to come to HIM for our instruction, guidance and help. The other is the opposite of what GOD wants.
Having said that: Libs/DEMS who think they can make a “HEAVEN” on earth have totally missed the point. You can not make an even playing field, you can’t erase all the pain and struggle or else we’d be nothing but robotic marshmallows. All I can say now is MARANATHA !!!

We are suppose to have three seperate but EQUAL divisions of government. Each has a specific function that can stop the others from gaining too much power. In the case of the house of representatives…it is the power of the purse. If potus won’t negotiate….cut funding for obamacare…if he still won’t…cut funding for the EPA….still nothing? cut funding for ALL of the czars. They DO have the power to do this…..I have no idea why they don’t use it. Seems to me that the repubs are willing to sit down and negotiate….this whole thing is Obamas fault…period.

Walkabout, I read your congenial response to the – deleted evidently – post from BODYBAG. I see are sympathetic to his view, but that “If too many presidents, the 535 or governors are taken out & it will set a bad precedent.” Ya think? That would “set a bad precedent?” How many is “too many?” At what point does “taking out” politicians as a means of influencing government policy “set a bad precedent?”

Statements like yours sound no less crazy no than Bodybag’s. You aren’t too together are you?

You say “Obama is a bad man.” Do mean he’s evil, this man that won the election to the Presidency by popular vote and by an electoral landslide is a “bad man?” You say he’s “ignorant” although he’s clearly far more educated and intelligent than you. In what way “ignorant?” What is it you’re so smart about that he’s ignorant about. He’s “willful?” Seriously Walkabout? The most powerful man in the world is, you say, “willful?” World leaders aren’t generally “willful?” What do you mean by that? Do countries want insecure, unassertive leaders?

You’ve made the case that, “If too many presidents, the 535 or governors are taken out & it will set a bad precedent.” So, my non-bad and non-ignorant and non-willful friend, how many is too many?

I hope we are all preparing for the following: Obama at some point very soon will propose to the American people that one way we can cut spending is to abolish congress and their salaries. Since they are unable to pass any legislation and with the dismally low approval rating that they have, why even have a congress. He will offer his plan for the country going FORWARD and I can see it now – this will be polled with high approvals from the public and it shall pass. And that will be that.

It’s wrong to blame Obama and Boehner, they both take orders from the political elites above them. Obama is just the car salesman. He can’t make a decision without consulting the manager. The special interest money tells Boehner and the other congressmen how to vote. The Tea Party and other conservatives take their orders from the people who elected them. This is a real problem for Boehner.

How many is too many? any is bad. We have survived an occasional 1 here or there. But take the Roman Empire. The quicker they got rid of Emperors. the less legitimacy the succeeding ones had the more blood shed there was (the sooner the Empire died.). The same was true of the Republic. Caesar did not kiII the Republic. His was the final nail. the Republic was well on its’ way during the time of Sulla & Marius. When you have enough massacres like you had at that time, democracy/republics die.

How many is too many? Maybe the question is how many is too any & to be able to go on. I don’t know the answer. But I said any were very bad.

I was very upset when the Ambassador died. That was too many. Let’s say if another ambassador died in the next 4 years I would not be shocked. Do you remember the USAID employees kiIIed on Jordan & Kuwait? Of course not.

Is Obama evil. He has said he wants no cuts in the budget. If he raised taxes on $250K a year & over, they additional revenue would not close the budget deficit by more than 5% . That is evil. The only reason we can print money is because the dollar is the reserve currency.

In away it would be better if we lost our reserve currency status. It would prevent Democrats from buying votes.

Still reading “Foreign Affairs” about reserve currencies & Special Drawing rights. The history of reserve currencies I have down pat. Special Drawing Rights I am suspicious of.

The British pound & the U.S. Dollar were the reserve currencies between the World Wars. There can be more than 1 reserve currency. The pound ceased being a reserve currency when it went bankrupt. There is a price for saying “Peace in Our Time” & giving away the border defense of Czechoslovakia to an aggressor & subsequently the Skoda armaments factory, military equipment & Czechoslovakia. And pictures of former Czechoslovakian tanks with swastikas on the coast of France are classic. They show the folly of the left.

They diversified into business that are more profitable in a down economy. They structured their workforce to downsize whenever their is a recession. And they strive for continually improvement & cost savings.

Our household is completely depressed and hopeless for the future of the Republic. I don’t have evidence, but my heart believes members of Congress have been being threatened with much more than a public tongue lashing. There were a few people, Harry Reid for one, that took Air Force One rides and changed their stance on Obama’s health care bill by the time they landed.

It’s more than Obama, Hilary, Bush, Pelosi, Boxer, Feinstein, Frank, Sunstein & wife, Ayers, Goldman Sachs, etc. etc. There is a true essence of evil that has taken over mens minds and hearts.

The result is that there are some wackos (myself) that would have them face the ultimate punishment. Problem is, that’s not legal. I just don’t see how somebody can sit at a table with ANY of these people and not lean over to beat the living crap out of them for their lies, arrogance, hypocrisy, and lust for control. With Boehner’s offer to increase taxes on the top 1% ($1MM+/year earners) President Obama is now holding tax cuts for middle Americans hostage while he goes after the second 1% ($250K->$1MM/year).

The President asked for Increased taxes on everyone earning $200/250K/year, GOP wanted NO tax increases – all current rates stay in effect. Now that the GOP has compromised/conceeded the top 1% ($1MM+/year) the President refuses the offer and takes on the role of the leader of the new Party of “No”…

Of course, the Press will fail to notice that the GOP was willing to meet the President half-way, and that the President was unwilling to specify ANY spending cuts.

Good let taxes go up on everyone. I am tired of hearing how bad the Bush tax cuts were for the economy and the taxpayer. When the middle and lower class see how much Bush lowered their taxes maybe they will shut up. The automatic cuts are needed, even in the republicans sacred defense spending. Every year for decades EVERY department has INCREASED its spending. Bush’s budgets, that the republicans approved, were in the red and Obama’s spending has been on deficit spending steroids.

If we go back to the Democrats illusion of Clinton era tax cuts will help the budget then the Clinton era spending should be implemented as well. Higher taxes on the top 2% will not decrease the budget or debt one stinking penny.

Either way, if the taxes are only increased on the job producers and those who have more disposable income then the economy will go into a recession (just see how many people cancel their yard care, dinners out, etc, etc). If taxes go up on everyone then the economy is in a recession as well. We are screwed either say.

Another steam roller of budget problems will arise next year no matter what. Tax accountants and attorneys are making a windfall this year as businesses and individuals readjust their earnings, dividends and capital gains to take the hit on taxes this year as opposed to next year. People with large tracts of land and other assets are transferring them to their families now to avoid the biggest communist tax known as the inheritance ta

If you make $250,000 and you have to pay a 5 percent higher tax rate, I don’t think you’ll have to cancel yard care or dinners out. Did the people making 250,000 and up wait till GW Bush lowered taxes to get yard care and start eating out? Seriously? I don’t see the logic.

Boehner couldn’t even get his back-up Plan B to pass because of Republican lawmakers’ pledge to Grover Norquist. We need to not only make some cuts but pay for the cost of the wars begun by Bush. How irresponsible to lower taxes, run up debt, then blame the next president who is left with the major recession and revenue shortfall. I must respectfully say that Beck is a charlatan who should be exposed. Search his name at Media Matters for America and if you are objective and seeking truth, your eyes will be opened. That is why he fears that website and cannot honestly rebut the majority of their accusations against conservatives. I say this without malice and wish for Beck’s well being and happiness should he regain an appreciation for truth and honesty. Good luck and always carefully search for and uphold truth.

The Bush tax cuts spurred revenue, and, since Obama has voted to maintain those cuts, at some point they became the Obama Tax rates. Media Matters is full of lunatics and imbeciles, so by seeking truth there you are lowering your IQ. I’m guessing you’re firmly in the Michael Moore camp.If you want to talk about unfunded increases in spending let’s talk the fraudulant foodstamp program, cash for clunkers, foriegn aid payments to countries that hate us and want us dead. I could go on and on but I’m sure some other people on this, Glenn Beck’s website will do that for me. I can’t believe that after four years and an election morons are still blaming Bush. You are going to get your’s. Taxes will go up, inflation will hit, the debt will continue to grow, the country will officially go bankrupt, although unofficially it already is, unemployment is going to rise sharply. There is a good chance that there will be a stock market crash, U.S. credit downgrade, hyper inflation along with a total economic collapse. When all of this happens the parasite class will take to the streets and chaos will begin. Survival of the fittest will be the rule of the day. Many law enforcement types will stay home to protect their families and those that stay on duty will be overcome. It’s going to be an Apocalyptic movie come to life. If the history of it is ever told, the genesis of it all will be found to be the administration of F.D.R. The “no turning back” point will be seen as Lyndon Johnson’s “Great Society”, the true incubator of the parasite class. Now the country is controlled by politicians who were elected by ignorant voters who desire a sugar daddy to provide for them and protect them. Since it is impossible for the parasite class to sustain and grow the economy of the country, and since the parasites breed like rabbits, the dwindling number of producers are not going to be able to be taxed enough to keep the economy rolling. After the first of the year when the magnitude of the economic wreckage wrought by Obama & Company becomes crystal clear to the producers, hope along with drive is going to fade and then the great down hill slide will begin.

He has emboldened our enemies through words and physical arms. He has weakened our stance nationally. He has pitted American against American. He appears complicit if not responsible for the deaths of border agent Brian Terry, 20+ Navy SEALs (who appear to have been quid pro quo for bin Laden), 4 embassy workers (including our Ambassador) in Benghazi, and how many others?

If he succeeds in standing up to the Republicans in his second term instead of hopelessly trying to collaborate with a bunch of overgrown infants who are so irrational and petty that they will vote against their own ideas when they hear that he agrees with them, he could still go down in history as one of our greatest Presidents.

Chet – If anybody is acting like a bunch of infants, that would be you Obama regime supporters and Obama. You’re whining about how the rich should have to pay higher tax rates to take care of you freeloading bums even though the rich don’t owe you losers anything in life.

From the Constitution: All bills for raising revenue shall originate in the House of Representatives” Obama should NOT be allowed to raise taxes on cent! Its ALL about spending, CUT SPENDING! Washing does NOT have a revenue problem, it has a spending problem. The house needs to stand strong and not allow any tax increase. Obama hasn’t passed a budget since he’s been in office, why? If he passed a budget, he’d be expected to stick to it, and thats the last thing he wants. Obama is the worst president in history, and he has no clue when it comes to economics.

He is such an arrogant pos. I’m with you, no other president would of acted like this. We’re going over the cliff and he’s going to try to blame it on republicans. The house needs to pass several spending bills to show they are trying to do something. Even if they go nowhere.
