Navy Seal Commander Job Price Found Dead in Possible Suicide

WASHINGTON (AP) — U.S. military officials are investigating the apparent suicide of a Navy SEAL commander in Afghanistan.

Cmdr. Job W. Price, 42, of Pottstown, Pa., died Saturday of a gunshot wound to the head while supporting stability operations in Uruzgan Province, Afghanistan, a U.S. military official said Monday on condition of anonymity because the death is still under investigation.

The official said Price failed to show up for an appointment and was found when others went to check on him.

Price was from Virginia Beach, Va.-based SEAL Team 4, which is part of the mission to train Afghan local police to stave off the Taliban in remote parts of Afghanistan.

It was not immediately known when Price started his tour of duty in Afghanistan, though he had been in command of the team of 25 to 30 men since June 2011, the official said. He said Price had no immediately known professional or work problems other than the stresses of deployment, which can be tremendous for troops.

“The Naval Special Warfare family is deeply saddened by the loss of our teammate,” said Capt. Robert Smith, Commander of Naval Special Warfare Group Two, which manages all Virginia-based Navy SEAL teams. “We extend our condolences, thoughts and prayers to the family, friends, and NSW community during this time of grieving.”

“As we mourn the loss and honor the memory of our fallen teammate, those he served with will continue to carry out the mission,” Smith added Sunday.

Price is survived by a wife and a daughter.

His body is to be returned to the United States early Tuesday.

I think it’s another case of green-on-blue. The Afghans are our enemies, across the board, and the Obozo Administration is covering up its failures by calling it a suicide.

One can only hope that the Chinese will eventually go into Afghanistan, clean up the mess by any means necessary, and keep the mineral resources for themselves. We have neither the manpower nor the political will, and we are located too far away.

Under Obama , we seem to be losing a lot of our Navy Seals. Has it always been this way ? I was “asleep ” prior to Obamacare , I never paid close attention to what was happening in politics , now that I’m glued to politics , I find a lot of bad things are occurring frequently, things that don’t make sense. The endless wars and the new wars in the making are putting a horrendous strain on our military. When you fight without a clear or absent mission and you are instructed to look at the enemy (a term that has lost all meaning because it changes on an hourly basis) through the prism of political correctness a person can only take so much.

There have been a lot of navy seal team members killed over the past several years. Makes one wonder.

May he rest in peace, may his family find comfort and may our nation find the truth.

We haven’t had a war since WWII – Korea – Viet Nam, Afghanistan, Iraq – while tragic have not been fought as wars (not to dimish the sacrifices of the troups who answered the calls from our country – I thank you for your service and appreciate what you have done) – WAR means you do whatever is necessary to elimiate the enemy and their sympathisers – you obliterate the enemy and their ability to make war on the rest of us – or at the very least until the the sympathisers are begging us to stop.

We have sent our troups in with hands tied. War is not pretty and is not supposed to be – it is supposed to be so horrific that those who survive never want to do it again – as a deterent.

Korea, viet Nam, Afghanistan and Iraq should have been leveled in the first 3 months of our superior forces to be victorious.

Thankful that we didn;t fight WWII the same way or we would all be speaking German or Japanese

I agree there would be elevated combat stress for any of our military personnel during this current administration. I wouldn’t want to be in a theater of war knowing the guy calling the shots wants me dead.

I had a friend in Iraq when the current administration took control. He said everything immediately went into a schizophrenic tailspin.
