Meet the First Female NASCAR Pit Crew Member Named ‘Christmas’ Who Only Weighs 115 Lbs

Christmas Abbott is the First Female to Join a NASCAR Pit Crew

Christmas Abbott loves CrossFit and Olympic lifting, she wrote on her Facebook fan page. She’s only 5’3″ and weighs 115 pounds, which she also notes means that she likes “surprising people with my strength.”

But she also likes tackling “any challenge that is said can’t be done.” Perhaps one of these was joining a NASCAR pit crew. It’s a physically demanding job where not only strength but speed are of the essence. Abbott has proved that she both and joined a pit crew as the first female ever in NASCAR history.

ABC News featured Abbott last month reporting she was trained for the job by Turner Motorsports. Her duty on the crew is in the front tire position where she cranks off all five lug nuts, pulls off the tire, replaces it with a fresh one and puts the lug nuts back on. Then repeat on the other side. According to ABC, the entire pit crew’s efforts take about 12 seconds.

Abbott’s coach Shaun Peet told ABC he thought bringing on a woman was a publicity stunt at first. Of which, “I wanted no part of,” he said.

“And I think, I was convinced, when I saw her. She ran a 6.8 [second] right side the other day, which for as long as she’s being doing it is exceptional,” Peet said, according to ABC.

Watch ABC’s report:

On her CrossFit Journal, Abbott wrote:

“I love changing tires. The adrenaline of running in front of a car and then having the car zip by you, 50 to 60 miles an hour behind you … ,” Abbott starts. And when she so much as hears the sound of the air gun, “It makes me want to go fast,” she says. “It’s like hearing ‘3, 2, 1 … go.’”

In addition to being the first woman on a NACAR pit crew, Abbott owns CrossFit Invoke in North Carolina.

The Christmas baby — if you hadn’t guessed by the name — just turned 31 and is celebrating by hiking in the Dominican mountains, according to her Facebook page.

    Good for her!

And BTW, has anyone ever tried to flop top your knees on concrete from a run, snatch a 60 pound tire/wheel off your car while on your knees, where you’ve automatically lost almost half of your body’s leverage and strength and then put it back on, get up and run and do it again twice in 12-14 seconds all while 43 other cars could be whizzing past you within a foot or two at up to 70 mph and where missing just one lug nut or having to hit it twice is the difference is winning or losing?!
Don’t even bother your little brains about the heat from the wheel you have to deal with when you stick your hands in the holes to get it off being easily being a few hundred degrees because they’re attached to the brakes which can reach 1000 plus degrees! The brakes CAN make these tires melt and go flat….but all you naysayers know this kinda stuff.
The difficulty is clear and the mechanics of it, those that cause PLENTY of end range motions that can easily cause some serious injuries, are simple. So, cheer her on and if she succeeds give her the credit she’s due! This ain’t a job for the weak or faint hearted! These people ARE athletes pure and simple.
P.S. As a man, I don’t like her tattoos either but that’s irrelevant and their hers and she’s not MY wife or daughter.

How politically correct. Despite her cut but slim body I would like to have my 15 year old son train then challenge her for her job against a stop watch ! My so ? Varsity wrestler, varsity ( Junior Olympic & C.I.F.) swimmer ( both for all three years in High school so far. Black Belts in TaeKonDo, HapKiDo, and Pankration ( MMA), a purple belt in BJJ for three years @ 15 years of age. 6 1/2 percent body fat. In sort, just a boy, do you think she would accept the challenge ? Do you think she would win ? …again an ordinary 15 year old boy…

Some of these comments remind me of criticism of women in combat, or law enforcement, or even simply in the service.

Here’s the bottom line, there IS a financial bottom line in NASCAR, and they will not willy-nilly up and decide to reduce their ability to compete irrationally or to be correct somehow. Miss Christmas works hard for the money, so you’d better treat her right. She earns respect every day.

Hope you all had a wonderful Christmas Day, please take a moment to say grace for a First Responder.

I find woman OK for the most part at work, though over the years I’ve been surprised at how little woman understand about what their actually managing, are wholly afraid of risk and either shift responsibility or avoid it all together.. No surprise with this, so here we have a First one in NASCAR..

She is a very talented and beautiful woman, but I don’t care who they are, when they get older and you can’t see the tattoo anymore because of the wrinkles, it is gross. I think ANYONE that does this to their body, male or female isn’t like a painting that after say one-hundred or a thousand years is still beautiful, after twenty to thirty years this body art starts to look like crap.

Judging? Don’t be so judgmental norsepagan.

It is a simple and real observation about the ink. This lady doesn’t need to ink herself to stand out. She’s gone way beyond that with what she’s doing so the ink is a non issue far as I’m concerned. These days young women who have zero ink and zero body hardware are the ones who in that regard are the stand outs to me.

      what’s with – ” from the reporter “?
Are you just trying to claim to be someone special or what?
      I wanna see some credentials…

      Anyway –
My neice is a 115lb mechanic for Toyota – with tattoos no less.
No – she is not ripped like THAT but she makes more $/hour than her teamleader boyfriend because she continues to go to school, get extra training and addiding more and more certifications to her bio. I am really impressed with her as she does it because she simply LOVES being around cars.
This girl – Christmas – will make her jealous, but that’s what drives a lot of people.

More power to Christmas – kick butt and take names.
If you’re doing what you love – as my 21 year old neice is – you got more going for you than most of us do.

      to he11 with the naysayers.
They are either jealous women or – more often these days – jealous men.
Most men these days can’t change a flat, much less replace a timing belt or degree a cam.
I know enough about the business to know you wouldn’t be there on looks/sex alone as those guys mean business.

I – for one – am impressed and proud as hell of you.

Funny how many men get intimidated by strong woman. What do you care about how she looks.?? The chick donates profits to the troops in Afghanistan, she talks about how grateful she is she lives in America and recognizes how blessed she is to have the opportunities she does here. She has a machine gun on her work out shirt and a pistol tat on her hip….. Seems like my kind of girl. It is this kind of judgmental nonsense that drives the young conservatives away from our party … Not that I hadn’t seen enough of it demonstrated by the voter turnout for conservatives this past election cycle. Quite a number of judgmental folks out there, who can’t respect a person for their works and not have to judge them by the church they belong to, or the tattoos they have, or if they are rich, or whatever other factor eliminates them from being on the same page as them. Of course, your welcome to your opinion, and I Am sorry if it is just that, I am more venting at this pattern I have come to see develop ever since I went to 8-28. Somehow, all these people who I had felt I aligned with in purpose, emerged a branch that is highly critical and judgmental of others and it is primarily born-again’s. They claim the Tea-Party as their own, probably because they are so good at the guilting people into joining the various independent Tea Party groups. Quite frankly, it saddens me more than anything else. I love my friends who are members of such sects of Christianity, but the judgmental crap go

“Strong women”, Gender-Marxist code speak used to belittle anyone and everyone who dares to question their Cult.

Strong women don’t need to be paraded around like a show pony, but that’s the point isn’t it? This is a bitch and pony show. It has nothing to do with so-called equality and everything to to with tearing down society in the name of “fairness”. Strong women don’t need Affirmative Action. Strong women don’t need Anti-Discrimination. Basically, there’s no such thing as a “strong woman.”

Addison is in the Truck series, I woud assume this is the difference. I don’t know anything about Nascar, but I do know a handful of the names of the racers who drive cars, I don’t have a clue who drives the trucks. SO I would say this is a bigger deal being on a car crew Regardless, the young lady demonstrates not only a great attitude, personality, and physique, but she speaks of her gratitude for living in America and recognizing he opportunities she has here. That last bit was the most inspiring to me, as it took me some time as a young lad to learn to be grateful for this great country I was so fortunate to be born in. Heck, look how many people, young and old, spit on America, crying about how we treat our people, how we treat the poor and so on. Let them go live in Mexico and see what poor is. Honestly, go live abroad for a bit in countries even in Europe and find out you can’t even afford to a window air conditioner let alone afford to run it. Good Bless ya Christmas !! Keep that chin up and press on. I am sure you are well aware there are always going to be people who envy your abilities, ambition and success. You may already be aware, but watch out for them scoundrels in the media and marketing, and never believe they are doing you any favors so don’t so them any. It is always just business with those people and their interests are only in their success. Whether it be through you or the next product. I like your attitude, good luck !!

First of I ike her mojo as far as personal business is concerned, but it is far from relevant. So she changes tires for NASCAR. Second is NASCAR in the kind of trouble that they need this? Are they that hard up for publicity Are times that though?
To add to this everyone be honest , when I follow ANY sport either on TV or the Net and look a attendance even at so called major events the stadiums are not even close to being full the cameras only show those areas in the stands with a few fans, to add to that is the fact that new stadiums all over are being built smaller and smaller, who inthe heck can affort to take in a game by yourdelf let alone take a family?? The reasons NASCAR is loosing their audience are numerous:
      The so called Stock Cars
The idea that you can abandon tracks and dates to expand your brand
Their abandonment of the core audience
Stupid gopher graphics on the TV
Stupid comments from stupid talking heads during the race, “Boogity, boogity, boogity, let’s go racing boys!”, WTF?

You gotta understand. Most of the keyboard wizards here are fat, slow and unhealthy. They would be threatened by a man with this kind of drive and fitness level, so when it’s a woman it’s tenfold. I personally have no problem with her. She’s beautiful, fit, smart and passionate. Only those hideous tattoos do it in for me. I’ll never understand why women do that to themselves. It’s tacky enough on men. Other than that, she’s tops.

Improvise: no…it’s not the communist emblem on her shirt. WOD stands or “Workout Of the Day”, a term used in the crossfit workout world. A WOD Killer is a person that rolls into the crossfit center and knocks their workout out quickly and efficiently. Just thought I would share. Kudos to Christmas on her accomplishment and Merry Christmas to all at The Blaze!

I understand what WOD stood for. I read the article and looked it up myself. If that’s not a communist symbol, what is it? Don’t just say no because you like the wodkiller gear.

If she wasn’t cute, would anyone care? Looking at her background a little more, it appears she’s just another model trying to generate publicity for herself by doing “edgy” things – not that she isn’t capable – clearly she is. But we have women in Iraq and Afghanistan doing HEROIC things – where are their stories? Or do they have to be models first, too?

How can you say she is cute? I don’t mind a woman that goes to the gym and works out. Just when in the hell did a steroid taking manly looking woman become cute. I am a country boy and worked on a farm with women, they can be strong and still look like a lady. If you are going to date her then its time to come out of the closet.

WOW,, what a lady, just the kind you want to take home and show around. NOT! When did men start to prefer fema-nazis to real women?

She posed nude for Inked magazine. Those tattoos aren’t just on her arm…they’re all over her. Sad.

I’m not the one “throwing up” because a woman has some ink…….or had the audacity to wear pants.
There is plenty of stupid to go around here. If you don’t believe me, locate the nearest mirror and see for yourself.
