MSNBC Co-Host Refuses to ‘Lie’ to His Children and Let Them Believe Santa Claus Is Real

MSNBC Co Host Toure Refuses to Lie to His Children and Let Them Believe Santa Claus Is Real

MSNBC’s Touré (FILE)

As the hosts of MSNBC’s “The Cycle” discussed what they did over the Christmas holiday on Wednesday, co-host Touré surprised his colleagues when he revealed that he refuses to “lie” to his children and tell them that Santa Claus is real.

Instead, he explained, they go out and buy each other gifts and the topic of the Santa “myth” never comes up.

“With my 5-year-old and 3-year-old, we didn’t talk about Santa at all. I went shopping with them. I let Hendrix pick out a present that he wanted, I let him pick out a present for his sister,” Touré said. “The idea that the presents did not come from us never came up. It just never occurred. We put out the presents before bedtime on Christmas Eve. So, there was no myth that some stranger is going to come in through the door while you’re sleeping.”

Co-host Krystal Ball called Touré’s stance on Santa “lame.”

“I’m sorry. We didn’t lie to our children,” he quickly interjected. “I don’t think that that’s lame, but whatever. Judge not.”

“They picked out their own presents? They didn’t get a surprise?” Ball pressed. “What kind of Christmas is that? I’m glad you’re not my dad.”

      Voices

A doctor had sex with one of his female patients and felt guilty all day long. No matter how much he tried to forget about it, he just couldn’t. The guilt and sense of betrayal of his patient were overwhelming.

But every once in a while he’d hear an internal, reassuring voice in his head that said: “Don’t worry about it. You aren’t the first medical practitioner to have sex with one of his patients and you won’t be the last. And you’re single. Just let it go.”

But, invariably, another voice in his head would bring him back to reality, whispering……….

“You’re a veterinarian, you sick bastard.”

So without santa clause there is no imagination? Its not like he is banned – he is just outed as a fictional character. The notion of imagination is built upon the understanding that it is not real – so your argument makes zero sense.

If you want your kids to have imagination – play with them, have them read, draw, and write….This isnt rocket science

I am a hardcore conservative and a believer in Christ. No Santa B.S. in my house ever. Santa, trees, lights, etc. as they are employed in the modern “holiday” traditions have nothing to do with the birth of Christ. Not that we can’t celebrate His birthday with lights, gifts, etc. (we do). But Santa takes the eye off the ball for young kids–is it about him and you getting stuff or this other thing altogether where God crawled inside a man called the Son of God to take your sins away? Plus, lying to your kids about something they can get so invested in is just unsmart. What else will they decide you were B.S.’ing them about? Including maybe that thing about God coming as a man? Or did you mention that this Christmas at all? Cuz I know Santa forgot to mention it or note it in any way while NORAD tracked him all the way to your neighborhood. Santa can be a fun thing, but he can’t be presented as real, nor does he enhance the actual point and theological meaning of Christ’s birth in any way. Maybe tangentially if you use the Orthodox Saint Nicholas (the actual saint) story in place of American Santa–but then, he wouldn’t be riding a sleigh through the air to your house ever, would he, then?

Not every Christian family is weak in faith. As a Christian you boycott a figure based on a well known Christian? Nevermind …I don’t care to know…you are like the skeleton at the feast…a slayer of hope and good.

Anyway, for the rest of us, it is an exercise in imagination and narrative. As a kid when you realize it is just that…a narrative..a tale and tradition…then you can appreciate it as such while still enjoying the memories. I am glad my parents didn’t piss on my childhood because they were afraid of their own faith being questioned.

The fact that Santa Claus is white is the main reason that black militant ignores him.

You hit on a great point and something I have been pondering upon for some time now, but especially with this Sandy Hook thing. Kids are constantly be made out to be adults, given rights as such, yet, they are still quasi if not completely dependent. With any form of independence comes personal responsibility. Apparently, there is a wide general agreement that a child is not considered able to cope and deal with life responsibly and be accountable for their actions as an adult until the age of 18. This would indicate that a human child lacks the developmental emotional and psychological abilities to thrive and live as an independent responsible adult, yet, these yokes on the left continually treat their children as little adults. Clearly, this isn’t for the childs best interest, but for that of the parents, who by treating a child as a little adult, the expectations are such that their childassume the responsibilities and accountabilities of an adult, thus, creating a perception for the neglecting parent that they have less responsibility they have to deal with in their lives. The quicker they get their child on their own, the quicker they can get back to their self serving and selfish lifestyles. They want the teachers to raise their kids, the day cares, the baby sitters, and everybody else but themselves. They only act as a bank, and when a child cracks, they blame everybody else but themselves with anger generated from the deep seated denial it is really their fault.

I never lied to my child about Santa either. The reason was, when I was a kid, I was told there is a Santa, an Easter Bunny, a tooth fairy and a God, all of whom you can’t see.
Then one day I’m told there is no Santa, no Easter Bunny, and no tooth fairy.
That can’t help but start the questions about the existence of God, whom we also can’t see.
So from day 1, I told my son that we give Santa Clause presents and Easter Bunny presents, and tooth fairy presents – because they’re fun and they make life more beautiful.
But from day 1, he has been told the truth about God and about Jesus and what the Bible, God’s Holy Word, says about God.
My son is 38, and we still exchange Santa gifts every year, and there never was that day of misery of being told all those “magical” beings don’t exist.
He has always known how very much families love their children to want to have such a beautiful tradition of giving, and how neat that is that so many parents are willing to give extra presents, never taking credit for them.
We give gifts to others in Jesus name too, anonymously. Same thing. He’s well grounded in truth and love.

I agree. From even before they could understand, my kids have always been told where their presents come. My mom actually mostly fills our stockings and mails them to us every year; when we hang them up at night, they’re already mostly full; I will usually buy a couple of bags of candy and divide them among the stockings so they have a little more.

Even still, the kids think that Santa is cool, even if he’s only a fun game to play. The kids don’t have to go through a major disappointment as they get older, and I don’t have to go through the dilemma of whether to tell a “white” lie or not. We’ve told them not to spoil it for other kids, because it’s really not up to me how to tell other parents how to raise their kids.

Typical of the demented mindset, incapable of understanding the spirit of the holiday. Instead, a liberal damaged mind lashes out on others, accusing everybody else as “liars” to elevate themselves. Torretz suffers from broken childhood upbringing so expect him to do it to his own kids (who did he slip the date rape drug to btw?). Toure’ it is clear you were not raised properly, lack of morals and values, just a mouth piece struggling to prove your own importance. The real truth is your own ego obstructs the innocence of youth and compassion.

@Kupo sure, but you, like your boy Toure’ here again miss the point of Santa Clause and throw an ugly image on that which you cannot comprehend. You want the innocence of children to celebrate the joy of the holidays the same way an adult does, then go ahead. Treat children as adults, sure there’s no harm in that…right? Maybe do a little research as to why Santa Clause was created.

Adults that grew up with the spirit of Santa Clause, that talk about it, tend to have a smile on their face and have fond memories. In hindsight (there’s a lesson) appreciate it all the more. Why are liberals/communists always so close minded? One dimensional in thinking? Funny how liberals project.

It’s good that you can choose not to lie to your children, but do not look down on people who wish to do so. I was lied to by my parents that Santa was real. But when I caught Mom putting presents under the tree on Christmas Eve she asked me to not spoil the fun for the younger kids. Her words made me feel like an adult and we after became closer. So, being lied to about Santa actually brought me and my Mother closer together (Dad was always there too, but Mom was the one who was the real Santa). That was 40 years ago. She’s 82 years old now and plays “Santa” for her great-grandchildren. God Bless her.

Like they are never going to see him “lie” as they grow older and watch where he works and what he says himself.

TIME, I remember that show on AFN when I was stationed in Graf, then Hohenfels. Early ’80s. Actually, around ’81. I had the same reaction back then.

I came to Germany a couple years later…. don’t remember it. I DO however remember that exercise show AFN had on… 3 three young ladies (contortionists more like it, lol) on this excercise floor that rotated? You remember THAT? Lmao.

Look up “20 Minute Workout”-’80s on your browser. Check out the images and see if you remember what I’m talking about RJJ. Lol.

TIME, Man, I was just pulling out the keyboard to respond to your other post just as I got a phone call from one of my best Army Buds from Bragg, my first post.
Yeah, I think the Tooth Fairy ended less than a year after I got over there. LOL, yes I do seem to recall that exercise show. Will look that up in a moment too. Dang, remember probably what was the most boring show on AFN in the afternoons, Gasthaus! With LOL, Herb Glover? Don’t ask how, but I just cannot forget that name for some reason. And, Lord I do try. Okay, off to the search engine now.

TIME, Oh yeah, I do remember that. Heck, I was there from early ’81 to early ’84, then back here to Drum, then less than two years and I was back over there for 3 1/2 years. Then finally home for Christmas of ’88. Then back again right before Christmas of ’91. To me AFN is just short for Another Friggin’ (I was nice) Nuisance.

LMAO…. Sorry to get back to you so late RJJ…. Oh heck yeah, I remember “Gasthaus”… and Herb Glover DOES sound familiar too ! I just did the one 3 year tour in Germany (Baumholder, 8th ID NCO Academy), but was there previously for a couple Reforgers (in your neck of the woods around Wild-Chicken and Graf) when I was at Devens in Mass. We were always gone when I was stationed there. We called the 39th Engineer Battalion the “road show”… and Devens called us the Black Sheep when we were in garrison (they loved when we went TDY), lol.

If I’m not mistaken… AFN when I was stationed in Panama was called AFRTS…. ??

TIME, Yeah, AFRTS is American Forces Radio and Television Service. AFN in Europe fell under the umbrella of it’s parent, AFRTS. I remember the still black and white AFRTS ads in the ’80s on AFN. I do know that in Korea, it was called AFKN. Never made it to Panama myself. Geez, I remember the REFORGERs. Worked on about 8 of them. LOL, Engineer eh? Our two MOSs were like oil and water then! Actually had a lot of good friends who were engineers. One really great friend was in Heilbronn. He and I did a lot of bicycling and shooting together, while his wife worked in my unit.

My kids are smart, and they know that St. Nicholas was a real man, but is long dead, and that he was known for giving gifts and expecting nothing in return, a very Christian concept. If I teach my children that “Santa Claus” and “The Easter Bunny” are real, when they find out the truth they may think I was lying to them about God being real. Therefore I only teach them truth.

Wait… these are adopted kids, right? No way he fathered any. Nurturing creativity and magical childhood experiences should be requirement #1 on the adoption application, after the unconditional love clause of course.

How can you lie to your children about Santa Claus when you helped to re-elect him in the first place?

I did show some respect. I didn’t mention anything about the new red Santa suit missing the hammer & sickle emblem on it.
