Philadelphia Mayor: NRA’s Idea to Have Armed Officials at Schools a ‘Completely Dumbass Idea’

Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter Credit: AP
Appearing on MSNBC Wednesday, Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter called the National Rifle Association’s suggestion of arming school officials to prevent future massacres a “completely dumbass idea.”
Filling in for host Andrea Mitchell, Luke Russert began by saying that many are calling for stricter gun laws following the deadly Newtown, Conn. shooting.
“There is a worry amongst some folks that once time passes, once we get past the State of the Union, that this could fizzle out,” Russert said.
“Not gonna happen,” Nutter interjected. “I think the public has been shocked and their conscience has been put on the carpet here with this one; and a totality of Newtown, Aurora, Tucson, a number of others…”
Nutter went on to say that NRA chair Wayne LaPierre’s press “statement” suggestion to have armed guards positioned at school entrances to prevent future attacks was flawed. Using that same logic, he explained, the recent fatal shooting of two New York firefighters requires all first responders be armed too.
“I think it just shows that that was a completely dumbass idea from the start,” he added.

Posted on December 26, 2012 at 4:58pmCOLUMBINE STUDENT’S FATHER 12 YEARS LATER!!
Guess our national leaders didn’t expect this. On Thursday, Darrell Scott, the father of Rachel Scott, a victim of the Columbine High School shootings in Littleton, Colorado, was invited to address the House Judiciary Committee’s subcommittee. What he said to our national leaders during this special session of Congress was painfully truthful.
They were not prepared for what he was to say, nor was it received well. It needs to be heard by every parent, every teacher, every politician, every sociologist, every psychologist, and every so-called expert! These courageous words spoken by Darrell Scott are powerful, penetrating, and deeply personal. There is no doubt that God sent this man as a voice crying in the wilderness. The following is a portion of the transcript:
“Since the dawn of creation there has been both good &evil in the hearts of men and women. We all contain the seeds of kindness or the seeds of violence. The death of my wonderful daughter, Rachel Joy Scott, and the deaths of that heroic teacher, and the other eleven children who died must not be in vain. Their blood cries out for answers.
“The first recorded act of violence was when Cain slew his brother Abel out in the field. The villain was not the club he used.. Neither was it the NCA, the National Club Association. The true killer was Cain, and the reason for the murder could only be found in Cain’s heart.
“In the days that followed the Columbine

Posted on December 26, 2012 at 6:09pmYou had to attack civilians, the people, women, children, innocent people, unknown people far removed from any political game. The reason was quite simple: to force … the public to turn to the state to ask for greater security.”
This was the essence of Operation Gladio, a decades-long covert campaign of terrorism and deceit directed by the intelligence services of the West — against their own populations. Hundreds of innocent people were killed or maimed in terrorist attacks — on train stations, supermarkets, cafes and offices — which were then blamed on “leftist subversives” or other political opponents. The purpose, as stated above in sworn testimony by Gladio agent Vincenzo Vinciguerra, was to demonize designated enemies and frighten the public into supporting ever-increasing powers for government leaders — and their elitist cronies.
These attacks are a concerterted attempt to remove all guns with U.S. Govt DARPA program and CIA influences .

I’d say some schools can have armed guards if they want. But also there are some willing teachers who would carry concealed with permit and training. I personally like the latter option than police in uniforms. Besides, then the perps would not know who exactly is potentially packing.

Posted on December 26, 2012 at 7:32pmClub no, sword or long knife, yes, especially if they are in a confined space like a classroom. Guns are almost worthless in close range combat. You may get one person, but not 20. Knifes and swords are very capable at close range.
This guy got the body count he did because his target was so weak: children.
People run from gunfire, they can’t hear knifes and swords, so anyone skilled in them could waltz through 20 people in a crowded mall before anyone knew what was happening.
Removing guns will accomplish nothing other than to make law abiding citizens weaker against their government should it run roughshod over their freedoms… like it’s trying to do, and being pushed by well-meaning but less than informed people or those that are part of the elite machine that would benefit by the removal of that layer of defense.
We are witnessing elite theory play out to its extreme folks. It will end in a draw or not well at all.

Funny how security is the answer when the problem comes from within and taking away the right to defend yourself is the answer when the threat comes from the outside.
We have no problem with metal detectors, bomb detectors and security at airports, but please don’t have security outside the schools to patrol for pedophiles and those who wish our children harm.
The answer is always to make guns illegal so only the tyrants in government and criminals can defend themselves from those who wish them harm.
Just another hypocrite who would like nothing more than to make the citizens of the US defenseless against the tyrannical government that is headed our way.

Philly schools in the inner city have armed police that work at each school.
Show us one NRA member that murdered anyone?
I would be more accurate to say that welfare recipients are doing the killing. Did you know that ? Welfare and violent crime are intrinsically connected.
We also know that black Americans make up 12.5% of the population, but do half the nation’s murders. If we lowered black murder rates to the same as whites, we would lower the nation’s murder rate by just about 40% and save a whole lot of black lives. What do you say to that?
We also know that portions of the US that enacted concealed carry laws have seen a decline in crime. You posted a bogus study on another article claiming the opposite, but I helped you out, and posted the study, showing your to be bogus.
We also know that when England and Australia outlawed handguns, gun violence and murder both went up considerably.
We also know that nations in the past that outlawed all guns (under the leadership of folks like Hitler, Stalin, Mao, Castro….) then murdered millions of their own.

Arming firefighters would be stupid because GUNPOWDER EXPLODES under heat, Mr. Nutter. Hello? Not remotely comparable. If it didn’t (and guns somehow still fired), then maybe firefighters already WOULD be armed. They could at least keep arms on the truck.
But more to the point, I notice he didn’t give any reason to believe him that it’s dumb. He just scoffs and insults, but how does that help protect our kids? Posted on December 26, 2012 at 4:49pmThere are NO perfect solutions to this and guns will always be with us (thank God)! SO let’s use these measures that will reduce gun violence: let’s restore religious education in public schools K thru 12 (read David Bartons Original Intent after Biblical Natural Law rejected / removed from schools crimes and immorality rises), place anyone committing certain classes of crime with ANY weapon in jail for life.–No three strikes so you die in jail; have NO gun free zones, allow college students/teachers who qualify to carry weapons on the campus and in the classrooms, begin weapons training/education for qualified High School seniors and demystify weapons — teach them how to handle, shoot and proper gun safety (called education removing the xenophobia), strengthen the Castle Doctrine so that there are far less prosecutions of people who have rightfully protected themselves with a weapon, ID those demographics most likely to use guns in crime and increase cop patrols…

Most accidental shootings occur because some kid went “eww coool, lets play with your dads gun!” or something similar… Most main street people that are anti gun are anti gun because they don’t know about them and believe msm evil gun rederic, but if they understood gun safety and how they are crucial in defending your self then the rederic becomes just that…. the taboo fades, and more good guys begin to arm there selves as means of self defense. How is it a dumbass idea, mr mayor? because it would minimize the numbers of deaths? because it would introduce a measure of authority and responsibility to the schools that are lacking such? because it strips you and other liberals of an albeit twisted tool with which to try to take more control over the populace?
In point of fact, the only problem with the NRA suggestion is the cost… and THAT can be addressed if the training and response are taken ‘in house’ to teachers, who would receive a minimal stipend for the extra responsibility.
But the NRA could not champion that idea without more people becoming irrationally angry…
the EMOTIONAL response to the Sandy Hook tragedy is just that, Mr. Mayor… it’s pie in the sky, ignore reality… in short, your position will get MORE people killed… and more INNOCENT people killed at that.

Posted on December 26, 2012 at 4:35pm…. Why shouldn’t all first responders be armed? If a policeman can carry a gun I see no reason why there can’t be an AR in the firetruck

Posted on December 26, 2012 at 6:34pmEleven is about how many you need for them to be any more effective than none. Unfortunately, there are almost 100,000 public schools in this country and we can’t afford to put eleven guards in each of them just because there may be an attack on one of them somewhere once every year or two.

Posted on December 27, 2012 at 12:54amGet rid of public schools, I say. Get rid of all federal depts. that have anything to do with education. Go state and local… We save lots of money, have more control, and can hire security with the savings…The safety of my grandkids is my top priority. We need to take back control of our lives… I want to deal with this evil world how I see fit. All you commies and libs, can follow your masters, go ahead and castrate yourselves, but I will pass, thanks

Posted on December 26, 2012 at 5:08pmRJJING..his story when he changed his name from HORSEDANCER to WANGO was that he was banned by the monitors at the Blaze for something he said and had to create the WANGO screenname in order to keep on posting here. And now three screennames later and he’s calling others “zealots”? This guy doesn’t need more screennames, he needs a therapist.

Posted on December 27, 2012 at 9:11amAVENGERK, I was apparently busy with something else and missed any post from WANGO explaining that site name change. Got the feeling that The Blaze had banned him this last time, since in his newly resurrected name sake he made a quasi accusation directed at me. I know that I had nothing to do with his latest name change, or any of the others. The only posts that I have tagged the Report Post link have been for those ad trolls. For the absolute most part I disagree with him, but would rather speak my views here as well as read his.
