U.N. to Take Up NRA-Opposed Global Arms Treaty Negotiations Again
The United Nations voted Christmas Eve to reconsider a global arms trade treaty, which the United States failed to ratify in July but was supported by U.S. officials shortly after President Barack Obama’s reelection.
According to the Associated Press, the resolution to renegotiate the treaty in March was approved by a vote of 133-0 with 17 abstentions.

Although some might think support for the treaty improved in light of the recent Sandy Hook Elementary School mass murder in Newtown, Conn., proponents of the treaty have argued in the past that it would not impact domestic gun regulation.
The draft treaty does not control the domestic use of weapons in any country, but it would require all countries to establish national regulations to control the transfer of conventional arms and to regulate arms brokers. It would prohibit states that ratify the treaty from transferring conventional weapons if they would violate arms embargoes or if they would promote acts of genocide, crimes against humanity or war crimes.
In considering whether to authorize the export of arms, the draft says a country must evaluate whether the weapon would be used to violate international human rights or humanitarian laws or be used by terrorists, organized crime or for corrupt practices.
Opponents of the treaty have argued that the wording was too vague and could open up the door to domestic regulation and infringement on Second Amendment rights in America.
The National Rifle Association and other gun lobbying groups fought against the treaty in July. Press TV reported NRA CEO Wayne LaPierre saying before the summer conference that it would not “stand idly by while international organizations, whether state-based or stateless, attempt to undermine the fundamental liberties… on which our entire American system of government is based.”
“Any treaty that includes civilian firearms ownership in its scope will be met with the NRA’s greatest force of opposition,” LaPierre continued, according to Press TV.
After the Obama Administration endorsed the treaty in November, the NRA wrote about some of the worrying provisions in the ATT on its website:
Among the draft’s most onerous requirements are those intending to burden and keep records on “end users,” or gun owners. The draft states that “Each State Party shall maintain national records… Such records may contain… end users” and that “Records shall be kept for a minimum of ten years.” If this obligation were to be enacted and followed, it could result in registration for any American that purchases an imported firearms.
Despite the insistence of a U.S. State Department official this summer that ammunition controls are not feasible and would have “significant administrative and financial costs,” ammunition remains within the scope of the working draft. The draft states, “Each State Party shall establish and maintain a national control system to regulate the export of ammunition for conventional arms.” In the explanation of its vote in favor of the resolution, Mexico made clear that it will continue to pursue its goal of including ammunition within the scope of the treaty.
LaPierre said in July the NRA’s position “will remain the same on any treaty that could adversely affect the rights of American gun owners.”
The negotiations will be held March 18-28 in New York.

The burden is on you to demonstrate high crimes and misdemeanors on the part of the president. To my knowledge, he hasn’t committed any crime.
The US started as a nation of traitors to the British crown, I wouldn’t throw moral stones.
You are aware, aren’t you, that the President can suggest legislation, can appoint members of the judiciary (who then need approval of the legislative branch). In fact, the heads of the executive branch departments, after being nominated by the President, also must get legislative approval before they get appointed.
In other words, the President is NOT a dictator and on his own, has very little power.
Is Barack Obama a traitor to America?
Is Barack Obama mentally ill?
Can Barack Obama be impeached?
Is Barack Obama an Urusper and what does that mean?
Is Barack Obama an evil man?
Is Barack Obama a criminal?
no as far as I know his actions thus far are legal
The answer to all of them is NO. The reason: there is no valid evidence for anything you’ve said. Obviously, you think all of these things are true. Please provide reasons why you believe that.
You could die hating him but he’ll never go to jail because of your hate.

I predicted his election as early as 07. Relection…yep, as early as 09. Right/Right!
Mark these words down! You may believe what you want and that his intentions/agenda for America to be righteous and wholesome, but at the end of the day…in the future you will see what he has wrought upon this nation and it will not be good, you along with others who do not understand nor can grasp who he is will continue to blame others for why things went they way they did and you will be suffering the same as those you hated.
We no longer live in a time of people like Hitler….his tricks no longer work on us. The master is at work right now and you’d better get your mind around that fact. Do not be deceived!

Posted on December 26, 2012 at 11:17amThis means nothing, folks… the US ignores UN resolutions whenever we choose, just like the other nations. Sadly, the UN rendered itself an expensive farce in its distribution of membership seats on various councils, its refusal to act promptly and effectively on member nations behaving badly, the representative dignataries who ahve carved out personal fortunes at the expense of their own and other nations, and the insistence on chasing pseudoscientific hypotheses as if they were unassailable fact.
While a great idea in principle– like socialism in its theory– human nature and real life practice have rendered the UN nothing more than a pricey albatross around the neck of the developed free nations.
And if this administration thinks they can disarm its citizens by bringing in the blue helmets, it would be a pointed and quickly proven mistake… honest Americans will hesitate before taking up arms against neighbors and those they know are ‘just doing their jobs.’ They will unite and repel a foreign invader or aggressor, even if they come facestiously asking ‘plese give us your firearms.’

Posted on December 26, 2012 at 10:45amOur founders were fearful of government. They developed a constitution out of this fear. The 2nd Amendment was not written for the purpose of hunting or defending yourself from thieves. It was written so that the people would always have recourse against government. They realized as power became more centralized that the natural course of events tend to gravitate towards oppression and loss of freedom for people. So……what kind of fool does not fear the government. Apparently the fools in Camden, N.J. Who is calling for gun control laws? THE GOVERNMENT! Who are the people of Camden giving their arms to? THE GOVERNMENT Who is pushing for gun control globally? THE UNITED NATIONS (EXTREMELY BIG GOVERNMENT). How are you going to defend yourself from this government after they have taken all your arms away. YES….even the AR15′s with 30 round clips. Try fending off the military with a pellet gun when they tell you to pay the grass tax or tree tax or face the consequences of loosing your house or jail time.
Let me say it more clearly this time. THE RIGHT TO KEEP AND BEAR ARMS IS TO KEEP BIG GOVERNMENT FROM IMPOSING IT’S WILL ON YOU. NOT TO BE ABLE TO HUNT OR TO DEFEND YOURSELF FROM OTHER CITIZENS. THAT IS ONLY AN ADVANTAGE OF ORIGIONAL INTENT.

I know I’m a broken record with this comment but it’s vital to make people aware of that fact. Too many people are willing to give up their rights to government,it’s pretty scary when you think about it because people aren’t having their firearms confiscated, yet. They’re willingly giving them up and our founders would be rolling in their graves at the thought of it.

Plus, take a look at the countries who are pushing for this the most. They are either dictators or countries who oppress their people and act like they are the ones above it all.
I’m going to say it but I’m sure that a lot of people will disagree with me and say I’m wrong but I believe WW3 has already started. It hasn’t started in the conventional way but the strategic movements (one would be the “Arms Treaty”) are setting the battlefield so the U.N. can just move in.
