Blogger Retaliates Against Paper That Published Gun Owner Addresses by Creating Interactive Map of Its Employees

In retaliation against the New York newspaper — the Journal News — that published the addresses of those pistol permit holders in two of the state’s counties, a blogger has created a map pinpointing the addresses of the newspaper’s employees.

(Related: NY Paper Broke No Laws With Gun Owner Map — But Is It Ever Ethical to Publish Personal Info to Push an Agenda?)

Mimicking the title of the Journal News’ original article, Robert Cox with “Talk of the Sound” headlined his post: Map: Where are the Journal News employees in your neighborhood?

Robert Cox With Talk of the Sound Creates Map of Journal News Employees in Retaliation to Gun Permit Map

Screenshot of Journal News employee address map. (Image: Robert Cox/ Talk of the Sound)

He wrote:

The map indicates the addresses of all Journal News Employees in the New York Tri-State area. Each dot represents an individual Journal News employee — a reporter, editor or staffer. The data does not include freelancers — reporters or photographers — which can be hired without being an employee. Being included in this map does not mean the individual at a specific location is a responsible reporter or editor, just that they are a reporter or editor.

[...]

To create the map, Talk of the Sound submitted Google searches for the names and addresses of all Journal News employees in the New York Tri-State area. By state law, the information is public record.

Cox went onto explain that putting together the map has been a crowd-sourced effort between other bloggers and readers. He wrote the map will be updated as more information continues to become available.

He also noted that since the publication has downsized in recent years, some of the names of employees might not be current. So far, dozens of names and addresses have been collected and published.

See the full-size map here.

Another blogger has been curating the names and addresses of News Journal employees as well (via Beta Beat). Christopher Fountain, a Greenwich, Conn., real estate agent on his blog For What It’s Worth, generally composes posts about real estate and home improvement, has been voicing his thoughts on the News Journal’s publishing of gun owner addresses and also recently linked Cox’s interactive map of employee addresses.

Check out these stories on TheBlaze blog related to the New York paper publishing gun owners addresses:

(H/T: Newsbusters)

Editor’s note — We discussed this story and during our live BlazeCast Thursday afternoon…this is the “rewind” of that broadcast:

In CONTROL, Glenn Beck presents a passionate, fact-based case for guns that reveals why gun control isn’t really about controlling guns at all; it’s about controlling us. Find out more HERE.

Yes and now he needs to cross reference the data to see if any of the employees have a gun permit, if not then put the information out there that these houses do not have gun permits, which may mean they are not protected and any would be robber should go to these houses first since they will not meet with resistance.

Does “fires a projectile” count as one military characteristic? I mean, don’t all military guns fire some sort of bullet? If this passes, it will easily be shot down in the Supreme Court (pun intended).

Your post name implies that you are disabled. I can see many physically diabled people having a very good chance of surviving an encounter with a home intruder if they have a gun. Gun in one hand cellphone dialing 911 in another hand.

Without a gun, a physically disabled person may be at the mercy of any thug that comes into their home, house or apartment, whether they be male or female. The paid trolls on this site simply cannot admit this. If they did they would get fired. Maybe not the 1st time, but by the 3rd time their b/ttt would be skidding across the pavement.

For the ones without guns, their next door neighbors should post a sign in their yard with an arrow pointing to the vulnerable house that says,

This homeowner next door is unarmed and wants to ban guns. Out of respect for his beliefs, I will not intervene on his behalf to protect his life and property.

I wonder who will get robbed? In the event of a home invasion, they can call the police, who will be happy to draw a chalk outline around their corpse and fill out a report.

A gun is like a parachute. You always want to have one in case you need it. If you don’t have one when you need one, you will not be around to want or need anything again.

We had a parapalegic in our town that aparently sleeps with his gun. When he woke up to an intruder with a gun pointed at his head, was able to distract him and shoot first. Case closed!

Excellent suggestion. That should be done to make it complete. Did you suggest that to the blog owner? I’m pretty sure he’ll go along with it. If you don’t, I can promise you I will.

Finally, somebody on the right is learning how to wage geurilla warfare. The Republicans are too disgustingly prim and proper to do it. That’s why they lose oiut on so many things.

I believe an in-you-face approach is the only way. For example if the left screams hater and racist, don’t spend time defending yourself. Lay into them with charges of name-calling, because they can’t logically rebut you with facts and figures.

And level your own charges of anti-white black racism. It’s easy to verify and support, because it’s the truth and there;’s so much of it everywhere, from the communities to every network on t.v.

It is the easiest thing in the world to find examples.

They created these buzz words…placing them on a par with “child molester,” in order to intimidate the opposition into silence, because they can’t defend their airhead agenda.

Ignore them and answer with charges of your own.

Another excellent idea regarding color coding, and especially, publishing the addresses and phone numbers of the news networks, Harvey Weinstein, Alec Baldwin, Sarandan, Garafalo, Spike Lee, the dregs at the ACLU, SPLC, and others, plus give any pertinent info about them, like where they go to eat, their favorite recreation spots, etc.

Get in their faces and don’t get out.

      Background check of owner and any transferee;
      Type and serial number of the firearm;
      Positive identification, including photograph and fingerprint;
Certification from local law enforcement of identity and that possession would not violate State or local law; and
Dedicated funding for ATF to implement registration”

I hope someone doesn’t give the addresses of those who work at the newspaper to all the gang bangers in surrounding areas. That would be a horrible thing to see. However, this might qualify under the idea of social justice. I’m sure all the people working at the newspaper would be on board with “REDISTRIBUTION OF WEALTH”…..just not sure how they would feel if it was their own wealth. But that’s how most on the left function. Always applying their dumba** ideas to others, but never to themselves. A Marxist’s only problem is when they must live and function in the hell hole they have created for others. It stinks when your ideas come back to bite you in the a**. You know the Alinsky tactic of agitation and aggravation might not be so inspiring when applied to people working at the newspaper instead of gun owners. Maybe thinking before acting would be the wisest course of action next time around.

I don’t have time to real all of posts under this article but you touch on something I’ve thought about doing. It might be worth the effort.

Create an online petition site for folks who are Anti-Gun Advocates. Invite them to sign it and providing full contact information including home address. Fully disclose that their information will be public information and provided to political and elected representatives as well as local law enforcement authorities. Ostensibly for the purpose of enabling local, state and federal governing authorities to formulate speedier reactive response services for them after suffering victimization by armed criminals.

Want to wager on how many Anti-Gun advocates would petition?

Another idea is to insist on legislation that requires non-gun owners to register. After all, they put a burden on society and the tax payer by making themselves the intentional target of opportunistic criminals. After all, if every law abiding citizen was personally armed, we wouldn’t need uniformed police but only need few detective class crime investigators. Police and bureaus of plainsclothes officers don’t stop or deter crime. They only react to it. And if every law abiding citizen were obligated to be armed – crime would drop and we could save municipalities across the nation billions.

I Wholeheartedly agree that any criminal records found should be posted after all we have the right to know if the people who support these agendas may have an alternative motive. After all owning a gun is legal, speeding, theft, assault, embezzlement or even being stupid often is not. We should know if they are a danger to others or even themselves. After all how are they able to ascertain if they know what is good for themselves if they have a past of bad decisions. Oh wait that the liberal agenda isn’t it, oh well lets see how they like for awhile. We can see if they are still so eager to trample anthers rights after they have had the same don’t to them. Accountability has left the building in the media if the people start holding them to the same standard they hold to others we will see if journalism professional integrity returns.

      I’m with ChiefGeorge – I think we’re sliding onto a pretty slippery slope……..
That being said…..maybe the next group of left-wing extremists will think twice before going public with things that are better left private! It’s truly unfortunate that these jokers decided to advertise private information about gun permits. I support the blogger’s retaliatory action in theory… those who live in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones, etc. – and those newspaper idiots should have known better in the first place.
But, our country needs desperately to get back to basics! Social/religious/political/economic/racial divides our Mr. Obama and fellow-progressives have created is destroying the very fiber of our nation. Pitting gun-owners against non-gun-owners – – the criminals are likely to be the only ones to benefit from this one. The far-left nuts are coming out of the woodwork and flooding the country with a new “agenda” crisis every other day – - and we are allowing them to do it.
Does anyone honestly believe that taking the guns out of the hands of responsible citizens will prevent incidents like the horrible mass murder that occurred in Newtown, PA? If anything, these kinds of radical actions – on both sides – are more likely to cause even more sad and senseless acts of violence, not prevent them.
It’s to the point I don’t really recognize this country any more! I can’t believe my fellow-citizens elected Obama and this progresssive agenda to

I’m mostly interested in knowing about the crazy people who buy assault weapons at gun shows and lots of ammo and large magazines. But the NRA says that information is private. And the NRA says you can’t regulate a legal guy buying a weapon capable of killing 31 people in a minute and selling it privately to any assassin with the greenbacks, including an Al Qaeda guy.

Does anyone but me find it strange that it this country it’s easier for an Al Qaeda terrorist to get the firepower needed to kill hundreds of people than it is for him to get a driver’s license? Or to vote?

your comment – “Does anyone but me find it strange that it this country it’s easier for an Al Qaeda terrorist to get the firepower needed to kill hundreds of people than it is for him to get a driver’s license? Or to vote?”

We find it strange that you pretend to care how folks get an AR, but you did not care that Eric Holder and crew send these same types of weapons into the hands of criminls that killed one of our own border patrol agents, and hundreds of Mexican citizens. You are a joke/

We also know that 50% of the murder in the US is done by Black Americans, and the majority of these murders is done by handguns, but not a peep from you and your fellow libs. Why is that?

If we lowered the black murder rate to the same as whites, we would drop the national murder rate by 40%, and save a whole lot of black lives.

In reality, rifles were used in just over 300 murders last year (all types of rifles, including the military style), but handguns were used in over 6000 known murders. More people were killed with knives, than with rifles, but you are not interested in facts, you are interested in doing away with the 2nd Amendment, so communsim can be furthered.

As far as criminals getting guns from gun shows. Your fear is not founded on facts.

Straw purchasing was the most common channel in trafficking of guns into the hands of criminals acording to the FBI

The Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS) report on “Firearms Use by Offenders” found that only 0.8% of firearms used in crimes came from ” a gun show,”

Yo, Send, you finally showed up again — and no admission that you were wrong earlier to claim no elected politician was talking about confiscation.

I haven’t forgotten that you made that the goalpost before. Why not just admit, okay, poor word choice, not the best strategy. And move on. :) It would give your credibility -something-.

As for the registration thing, now that confiscation is on the table (and keeping in mind that only arming the good guys has ever actually helped stop violence; gun banning has worsened it many times), adding registration to all guns is not looking wise. I was on board with the whole registration thing before, but this violation of privacy seems to blow that out of the water. What answer do you give to that?

Also, gun experts actually say that it is already very difficult to get guns. I highly recommend reading this article someone linked to earlier:

      http://1389blog.com/2012/12/23/larry-correia-refutes-the-gun-controllers-once-and-for-all/

So, your characterization of how things are appears to be very inaccurate.

A more interesting story would be to get the raw data the newspaper used and then see who’s name and address they Did Not publish.
If it can be shown that they did not publish this information when it concerned family, friends, or political allies then that would show malicious intent in the publication of the other names, due to their attempt to shelter these individuals from the harm that they anticipated this would cause.

We are seeing this vicious, community-organizer attitude all the way from the Community-Organizer-in-Chief and his allies in the Legislature like Nancy Pelosi, Steny Hoyer and the odious Harry Reid down to the gutter-snipes like Michael Moore and Chris Matthews, Bill Maher and Toure, Ed Schultz and David Letterman – and I could go on and on. The country is in survival mode and we must engage them in the trenches in hand-to-hand verbal and cyber-combat or we are doomed as a nation to suffer what the old Soviet Union did, and Europe is suffering as we speak, write and read.

@Walkabout, Being disabled I agree with your analysis. However, your logic matters not to the Obama administration, to the ilk of party members like Feinstein, or to Progressive Communist members of the Democratic or Republican parties USA. The disabled among us should not be burdened with the added responsibility of gun ownership. It with utmost compassion that our Communist leaders in the White House, Senate, and House provide those of us who are disabled with that which is best for the collective: Euthanasia. As in the thirties, they will come for the retarded, the physically disabled, and the mentally frail. Ironically, it likely is the disabled who will have first use of firearms as our founders intended. It is the disabled who must protect themselves against the benevolent, life-ending-injection-carrying Communist, Obama government before others as our Democratic and Republican Progressive parties come calling to share their view of collectivist compassion. Jaded worldview? You betcha’!

      Hey Conservative w.e. man
So yesterday, this was all, “right to know” info on the firearms owners in the area. The complete idiots in her editorial staff approved the innane behavior but now are concerned about safety. The hilarious thing here is, the left think they may actually have the courage or tenacity to do something about a neighbor who legally owns a firearm. LOLLOLLOLLOL
Some of the info I am referencing is not specifically in this story but if you have been following, you will bet the point. These libs cannot protect themselves from rodents, insects, and unfortunately thier own children. To all patriots, continue to track this li$tar) behavior and keep them all held accountable. The crying, whining, and outright cowardly behavior will only get worse but will be the guage we need to assess our progress.
Please do not be rude, threatening, or “overly” insulting but…. do not let these folks get off without challenge to thier moronic statements.
May the Lord protect our great nation and “all of her people”

Serves them right. I especially like the disclaimer about them not necessarily being responsible journalists or editors.

It’s about time someone started fighting back against the front line of the socialist movement.
