MSNBC’s Touré: ‘I Have a Right to Know…Who Has a Gun and Who Doesn’t’

A weekly publication in New York, The Journal News, has come under fire for publishing the names and addresses of pistol permit holders in two New York counties. On Thursday, the publication got some help from a couple of MSNBC hosts who defended the paper’s actions.

During Thursday’s edition of “The Cycle,” co-host Touré argued that he has every right to know the identity of every gun owner around him.

“I have a right to know, I think, to know who has a gun and who doesn’t,” Touré said. “Maybe I don’t want to go there, maybe I don’t want my kids going there.”

MSNBCs Toure: I Have a Right to Know...Who Has a Gun and Who Doesnt

He went on to claim that guns are far more likely to be used against friends and family than against home intruders.

“We treat guns as a private choice, but they are really a public matter in that having a gun impacts the local community, the national community,” Touré explained, adding that firearms are the leading cause of death in nearly every age category.

“They’re not sex offenders,” co-host Krystal Ball chimed in.

Watch the clip via MSNBC/Mediaite below:

Fellow co-host Steve Kornacki agreed with Touré, saying “I would like to know, if I was moving out to the suburbs with my family, I’d like to know if a neighbor had stockpiled weapons like Nancy Lanza had.” But Kornacki did say there was an ethical side of the argument when you are dealing with releasing people’s personal information and home addresses.

Kornacki also argued that America has made a “decision as a society” to make gun owners’ personal information publicly available.

Kornacki may have overstated his case as confidentiality law varies from state to state. Yes, it’s true that in New York, handgun permit holders’ information is available to the public. However, states like Texas consider concealed carry permit holders’ personal information confidential.

Either way, confidentiality law is not something that the United States made a “decision as a society” on, they are laws written and enacted by public officials.

In CONTROL, Glenn Beck presents a passionate, fact-based case for guns that reveals why gun control isn’t really about controlling guns at all; it’s about controlling us. Find out more HERE.

Toure’ is more likely to be gunned down by Santa Claus, than be gunned down by a conservative, liberty loving, 2nd amendment patriot. However, Toure’ is a million times more likely to be gunned down in Chicago or LA by a Black market gang banger who stole a gun. Do we need to track guns or criminals? What came first the chicken(roost) or the egg?

This is so stupid. You have no idea what criminal has a gun. Why in the world would they want to know what legal owner has one? It seems retarded. I don’t understand this. People die every day in the Ghetto but they fail to mention that. And those criminals are not going to the local store to buy one.

I love how these people talk like these problems of the inner city, resulting from poor parenting, irresponsible fathers knocking up 5 different women, not getting married, nor financially taking care of their children, makes their problems OUR problem. Torre speaks like he is part of a commune or something, and because of the countless irresponsible people who lack of accountability found with in these inner citie area’s, we should give up our individual lives we earned. Ok, yes we all used the same roads and infrastructure if you want to go that road, but because these people choose to live a certain lifestyle, hang on to certain cutltural norms, we are supposed to carry them for their poor choices. I am poor, I have been poor for a very long time since I started going to school, but I live a very humble simple life. I gave up drinking and drugging years ago, because I can’t manage that lifestyle, let alone afford it. You would be amazed on what I live on a month. I even have a sister and brother-in-law who are white trash, and have 2 kids. Me and my sister raise have taken them and raise them. It cost’s us what it would cost anybody else to raise a kid, but I sacrifice my life for the welfare of these children. I don’t just write them off as not my responsibility and go about my selfish life, partying it up or even starting a family of my own. I see it that God must have meant for me to not have my own kids so I could be there to guide these children. That’s the differ

This is a non-sense argument. The whole debate is devoid of reality and objectivity. You have a right…pft. Your rights are spelled out explicitly in the first 10 amendments of the Constitution and no where does it say you have a right to know who is a gun owner and who isn’t.

In one way I can respect Toure’s concerns, but it doesn’t seem like gang members & criminals use registered guns or are willing to let the general public know they are carrying. It always feels like it’s more about agenda than real concerns for safety. Could be wrong.

Well Touré… why not just head down to K Street under the bridge and ask some fine young men there about that?

Then head on over to 14th St. N. and Euclid in NW DC and ask around there. I’m sure that the nice fancy haircut and clean cut clothes you wear will gain some wonderful answers to your racist questions more rapidly than you ever imagined..

You can’t legislate, create laws, or do anything to prevent what happens in senseless killings. This is just what happens and there will always be access to weapons whether legally or illegally. Sorry but all the laws in the world will not prevent the next Connecticut, Colorado, or Virginia or Texas shooting. It is not the weapon that is the problem but people who are just crazy and those that are close to them either are unaware or are powerless to stop it. We will always have this problem and we will see more with the re-election of a president who promises to crush our economy and bring us all to our knees.

Hey, “Mr T”, care to enlighten me as to where your right to know ANYTHING about your neighbors is guaranteed in The Constitution or ensuing Amendments?
The only rights YOU have are the rights to remain black, stupid, and a racist. That last one only applies to “African Americans”, whatever the hell that means. I, for one, would like to know when an ass moves into my neighborhood. By YOUR reasoning, you would need to register as an ass prior to moving into my neighborhood. Now, THAT’S an Amendment that I can support, you pompous, self important, Metro sexual, piece of crap. Oops, I mean “African American” piece of crap.

The Journal News simply published a directory for gang-bangers in need of a gun. These people are long term thinkers. The police and military aren’t going to disarm us. Shoot a criminal breaking into your house, they’ll confiscate every gun you have. If you think you’ve got their methods figured out, twist it, spin it, turn it inside out, and you still won’t get it. They are wired different. They have “group think”. We are individuals. We believe in individuality, they don’t. There are more of us than them, but their voice is heard, their laws are enacted. Why is that? It’s what I can’t figure out.

You see a gun on his or her side and you won’t have any doubt as to who’s carrying. Regardless, you have no legal right to know who is carrying, so give up on that lame argument. Our rights are not explicitly laid out in the first 10 amendments to the Constitution.
It is called the Bill of Rights but that is a misnomer and has been the reason for quite some confusion on what the Constitution is.

The Bill of Rights enumerates some very specific constraints that are placed on The Government with respect to certain unalienable rights granted us by our Creator.

Our Constitution does not give us our rights nor does it “lay them out”.
      Our rights simply…are.
And government is explicitly constrained from violating them or infringing on them. Period.

I must vehemently disagree with Mr. Toure! Posting the names & addresses of ‘gun owners’ in a publication with wide distribution merely tells the criminal where he can get some guns if he simply burglarizes this home. In addition, it also alerts the anti-gun groups so that they will have a venue to go protest from. In either case, this places the law-abiding owner & his family in a difficult (& probably dangerous) situation. His statement that these weapons in the home are going to be used to shoot either a family member or a friend is also extremely false and adds more fuel to the fire for the anti-gun people.

In reality, in most states, to obtain a right-to-carry license, the responsible gun owner MUST undergo training to demonstrate that they are familiar with the weapon & can handle it safely – especially around family & family friends. On the other hand, those weapons in the home are truly used more often than any one knows to capture (or drive off) a felon in the home or defend the family from harm from a burglar or other criminal. Responsible owners always identify the target prior to discharging the weapon. If Toure would read some ACTUAL studies that have been conducted in this country, he would find that weapons are used to protect the family NOT to use the family as target practice.

Anyone who uses the weapon irresponsibly is either fined or jailed. In either case, he/she is also restricted from legally owning a firearm in the future.

If this d***che has the right to know who owns guns then we should all have the right to know who is voting for these Progressive Socialists to remain in office. We should also have the right to know who is on the public dole, in other words, who is taking money at the point of a gun from the producers in this Country and being paid to vote for the Progressive Socialists.

I think the two maps might just strangely co-inside. If their policies are truly so inspiring then why must they pay people to vote for them – Food Stamps, Welfare, Medicaid, SSI, Disability, government this/government that. All of which comes to each of the leeches, extracted at the point of a gun by the Socialists. The very ones that call for “equality” for all and now they are coming for your guns so that you won’t have any way to stop the next wave of moochers from pillaging your hard earned life savings to pay for their “fairness doctrine”.

If you own a gun or ever would like to, you better join the NRA now because 2013 is going to be the year of the gun ban, gun restrictions, and gun registration. Once you are registered it’s off to the concentration camps for you.

You are 8.5 times more likely to be strangled or stabbed to death than killed with a rifle of any kind in this Country. However, I don’t hear them calling to ban all knives and cut off everyone’s hands. However, if you let them take our God Given right to bare arms away, that just might be next. You can’t carry a knife on the streets of England and some States have already made it illegal to carry knives over a certain length.

Really? Lets see that statistic proving that little bit of BS. I hate it when people make these blanket statements, the media spreads them, & the sheeple buy it without one moment’s thought as to if that is really true or not.

I would also like Touré to provide the proof in the Constitution where he has the right to know someone else’s private business (gun ownership). Another reason I will never live in New York, publishing gun owner information.

It’s a shame isn’t it that there’s so many simpletons on TV spewing their idiocy. When someone says they have a ‘right’ to know who owns a gun that person should be banned for life from TV or speaking in public at all,it’s a public health issue.

No possible way is there a right to this information as it opposes the reason for the 2nd. You cannot oppose a government descended into tyranny if they know where to grab the guns. Simple logic and common sense dictates that in order to preserve your right to defend against tyranny you must be able to keep your arms. The founding fathers understood this well and if they were here to be questioned they would back me up on this opinion. Under a government gone bad the only way to preserve this 2nd amendment right would be to keep them unaware of where to find your guns. As the federal government has it’s powers spelled out this leaves all other power to the state. However no state can pass an unconstitutional law creating a violation of the Bill of Rights, meaning this New York law forcing citizens to register and creating a list of guns along with their location, is clearly unconstitutional.

Hale v Henkel 201 U.S. 43 @ 89 {1906} sez NOBODY has the RIGHT to know anything, absent trespass AGAINST the State — LQQk it up — One’s ‘bidness’ is nobody else’s ‘bidness…’ They can ‘ask’ anything they want — but one isn’t obligated to tell ‘em anything — strong-arming to ‘coerce’ compliance is remedied in the Federal jurisdiction, I heard…. One cannot ‘follow the law’ if one doesn’t KNOW the law — logical, I’d submit.

What happens to the weapons that are returned in on government buy-back. Are they destroyed to sent to the Mexican cartels? Many experts agree about disarming the public and population reduction:

      Idi Amin (100,000 – 500,000)
      Pol Pot ( 2,000,000 – 2,500,000)
      Josef Stalin (10,000,000 – 20,000,000)
      Adolf Hitler (42,000,000)
      Fidel Castro (30,000)
      Mao Tse Tung (20,000,000 – 40,000,000)

A leading cause of death appears to be “not being able to defend yourself.”

Piss-ant peasants like you should be denied the 2nd amendment. Only the self serving liberal elite are worthy of self defense.

It is a simple matter to assume all have guns and behave honorably. What government in history ever disarmed their people for good and not ill? There are no good reasons here people. This is not a noble effort, but nonsensical childish short sighted and wicked behavior. For the virtuous among us, knowing what we will do is dependent upon deciding what we “should do” and then preparing to act with honor. A good man has repeatedly said, “Do right.” I fully intend to and I am not alone.

Your post reminds me of what Ron Paul said in his farewell speech….

“The immoral use of force is the source of man’s political problems. Sadly, many religious groups, secular organizations, and psychopathic authoritarians endorse government initiated force to change the world. Even when the desired goals are well-intentioned—or especially when well-intentioned—the results are dismal. The good results sought never materialize. The new problems created require even more government force as a solution. The net result is institutionalizing government initiated violence and morally justifying it on humanitarian grounds.

This is the same fundamental reason our government uses force for invading other countries at will, central economic planning at home, and the regulation of personal liberty and habits of our citizens.”
