Kentucky Man Danny Hafley Under Fire for Effigy of Obama Eating Watermelon

A Kentucky man has sparked a public outcry after he put up a statue of President Barack Obama eating watermelon. His critics say the display is blatantly racist.

When asked why he chose to depict Obama, the nation’s first black president, eating watermelon, Danny Hafley said he “might get hungry standing out here.”

Hafley told LEX18 in Lexington said he is merely exercising his right to free speech and the statue is protected under the First Amendment.

“The way I look at it, it’s freedom of speech,” he said. “I don’t know how other people will take it.”

Hafley reportedly bought the Obama mask on the statue after Halloween and erected the display around the time of the November election.

“The mannequin, dressed in a grey suit, clip-on tie and blue-collared shirt, was originally standing in Hafley’s yard but the homeowner decided it would look better near the road,” LEX18 reports.

“That’s my buddy…He don’t talk. Don’t make no smart comments. If I had a dollar for everyone who stopped and took a picture of it I’d be a millionaire,” Hafley added.

One neighbor said the Obama figure initially had a sign asking people to pray Obama won’t destroy the United States.

Several other neighbors reportedly felt there was nothing wrong with the display and said Hafley had the right to leave it up.

  I didn’t vote for Obama because he was Black. I definitely didn’t vote for him because he’s a liberal (because he’s not). I voted AGAINST Romney because he’s a tool. The man is a vulture capitalist (to quote both Newt Gingrich and Rick Perry) who had no idea how to build a successful company, just run them into the ground as he stripped off all of their assets.

If a person puts a watermelon slice in the hands of an Obozo then it only means he is racist if he doesn’t like black people.   Thinks for the link Crueltiming, because I knew I remembered reading that Mrs. Obozo’s garden project was toast but I didn’t where to link it. Also, I read somewhere that all of the public school 4×8 garden plots are just another in the unabridged dictionary sized wasteful projects in the non-edumacation indoctrination centers(public schools) Turns out that almost no food was grown and that most of what did get grown was just thrown away, because the kids don’t eat it. If the Obozo gardens don’t grow Chicken McNuggets, Snickers, and Pizza then the kids don’t eat it. Water the plants with Gatorade and the Skittles will be grown. Ebononomics.

Only one problem, Barack and Michelle Obama are more racist than anyone on this sight. Don’t you think its a little unfair to call people out on an issue for which our potus is himself guilty?

  It’s one of the oldest stereotypes concerning African-Americans. Not the ‘it’s okay it’s based on a truth” kind of stereotype, either. The image of blacks eating watermelon was originally used to create the idea that slaves were so simple they enjoyed being a slave, and the treats that came with it. You say you are “so sick and tired of people like you who call anyone and everyone who disagrees with or paints Obama in a bad light as racist.” First of all, that’s not what is going on here. This guy isn’t disagreeing with Obama, he is mocking his ethnicity, no one can dispute that. Second, the reason some people do call people who honestly disagree with Obama racist is because they lump them in with this guy and the thousands of others who are racists and welcomed and cheered by conservatives, I was at a tea party event in DC a couple years ago and a guy with a microphone conducted a ‘best sign’ contest. They cheered and cheered for not the clever tax slogans, but the hateful racist stuff that included nooses and references to the N-word. These new ‘conservatives’ approve, or at least condone, these types of racists and dismiss intellectuals as ‘elites’. Read the Blaze. This type of racist, bigoted and hateful commentary is never condemned, usually embraced. That’s why you have become the party of racists.   First, this “new wave” of Conservative “racism” has much more to do with what is called a self fulfilling prophecy than actual animus towards blacks. ALL conservatives have spent the past couple of decades being labelled as racist and bigoted for EVERY SINGLE WORD they say that doesn’t tow the liberal line. This trend has only been placed on steroids by the likes of Chris Matthews and Barack Obama. EVENTUALLY, after people are dishonestly bashed like that for years, they begin to lash out.
  
  Second, you are simply lying about that “Tea Party Rally”…huffington, MSNBC, ect, all scoured the country side TRYING to find racist signs and t-shirts from TP rallies and NEVER FOUND A SINGLE instance of the N word being used or played on. Instead, they simply took totally NON racist signs and shirts and FORCED racism on them. If those powerful, national outlets couldn’t find them, you sure as HELL didn’t randomly stumble upon a few at a DC rally of all places.
  
  Finally, maybe you should review the posts on this thread again…I have seen at least a DOZEN Blaze posters (many of whom post regularly) that called this mans “display” racist. I don’t call it racist only because I REFUSE to use that word unless someone is actively trying to hold someone back or HARM them because of their race.
