Dick’s Sporting Goods Refusing to Honor Military-Style Rifle Orders Placed Before CT Shooting

Customers Complain Dicks Sporting Goods Sold Them Guns & Then Reneged

Cars are parked in the lot outside the Dicks Sporting Goods store in Cranberry, Pa. on Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2012. The sporting goods chain says it’s suspending sales of modern rifles nationwide because of the school shooting in Connecticut. They also say it’s removing all guns from display at its store closest to Newtown, where the massacre took place. (AP Photo/Keith Srakocic)

Russell Kellner of Flower Mound, Texas, ordered three Troy Defense Carbine Semi-Automatic Rifles from Dick’s Sporting Goods on Black Friday, CBS 11 News reports.

At $799 apiece, a savings of $300 dollars, it “was a heck of a deal,” he said.

However, Kellner and his wife received only two of the three guns. They received a letter from Dick’s on Christmas Eve stating that the company would not fulfill the remainder of their order.

Dick’s announced a week before Christmas that it was suspending sales of “modern sporting rifles” in all stores, “out of respect for the victims of the Connecticut massacre,” CBS News 11 notes.

“It ain’t a good deal when you don’t get it. So I’m not happy at all about it,” said Kellner.

And Kellner isn’t alone.

Troy Blackall says he paid for two of the Troy Carbines at Dick’s — but the store only sent him one.

“It’s unacceptable,” says Blackall.

Dick’s has announced they will be issuing full refunds. The sporting goods store even sent $100 gift cards to customers with unfulfilled orders.

But the chain’s attempts at damage control may not be enough.

“Do what you said. Do what you advertised. Make good on it,” said Kellner.

Blackall is also unimpressed.

“The guns have doubled and tripled in price now. So it’s not like we can get our money back and buy the guns someplace else,” he said.

And the chain’s decision to discontinue rifle sales has upset more than just customers.

“The manufacturer of the guns, Troy industries says on its Facebook page that it’s deeply dismayed and shocked that Dick’s stopped selling its rifle.” CBS News 11 reports. “Troy’s CEO says the company invested millions of dollars into its operations after selecting Dick’s as the sole distributor of this particular rifle.”

I stopped buying stuff at Dicks well over a year ago. Dick’s has become less of a sports-store and more of a sports-boutique. They stopped selling the stuff I was interested in with regard to firearms and everything else they sell is overpriced compared to competing stores/options I have. And the last time my family needed something that Dick’s supplies we had to order it and wait several weeks. We discovered we could just as easily have order that pair of shoes of the web and would have had it much quicker at a cheaper price.

We had giant sporting goods store in my area a few years back with an extensive firearms section
They slowly fazed out the gun department before eliminating it completely in favor of trendy outdoor pursuits like bicyling and kayaking . My brother in law decided he was going to buy new camping gear and start camping again and loaded up the cart at this store with hundreds of dollars of new gear . He had noticed the gun section was smaller than before and asked the clerk ringing up his purchase what was up . He was informed the management had decided it would be more polically correct and eliminate the firearms dept . My brother in law said he wrestled with that all the way out to the car before loading the merchandise back into the cart and taking every thing back for a full refund .
When asked why he was returning everything he said he could not do business with a store that had their new “Anti-gun ” viewpoint . There is a happy ending though .
Six months later this store was out of business!

Why is it that a record of everything you purchase at Dick’s is hidden as a REWARDS card? Why not just drop your prices for everyone? What is the difference? CONTROL is the difference. It begins with the credit system. CONTROL of the masses. The CREDIT system was devised as nothing more than a vehicle of the global elite trash ( AKA prior “kings of the earth” who gained their fortunes on the backs and blood of the masses) to loan money that they robbed from the People to begin with, and money that does not exist, thereby robbing and taking over the entire world financial system and governments, and enslaving the LIVES of the People, as they have succeeded vastly. Then they eventually enslave the world, which is seemingly not too far off. Their pattern and motive has never changed throughout history. Look around if you don’t think that those we FALSELY owe $16 trillion to are not trying to DESTROY the power of the People. THEY ARE! They are no less than parasitic vampiric bloodsuckers. Stores such as Dick’s are likely owned and controlled by these same enemies of the AMERICAN People. They are the enemies of ALL peoples, and ALWAYS have been. They are nothing more than SNAKES. The original “brood of vipers”. People that want freedom must STOP doing business with ALL entities that record what you are doing, and STOP throwing your privacy to the wind. It WILL fly back in your face.

Dicks used to be a good store, but the reason they will not honor their pre-CT sales is because the market has driven up the cost by 100%. They will now sell them a 700 rifle for $1400. Integrity is no longer a virtue but greedy Captilism is now the only meaningful virture in Amerika. Boycott Dicks, their camping gear is cheap stuff made by Chinese slave labor anyway.

The whole thing is ridiculous. People who kill are knowingly committing a crime, therefore, willing to purchase illegally. They will just go by way of suicide bombers instead. At least with a gun, some people can get away, or somebody else an take down the shooter.

Propel7; you aren’t to terribly far off in you estimation of the banking system. However there is an excellent book out there that will give you the history of money, how it works, why we are going to slam into the inevitable fiscal wall, and a relatively easy way we could avoid said wall, which is why Dear Leader is where he is to prevent that from happening. Anyway the book is Ellen Browns “Web of Debt…” its written in laymen s terms and is reasonably accurate, although her solution is more complicated than it needs to be.

One of Dick’s board of directors, Larry Stone(formally of Lowe’s) is behind this, he is against sporting rifles, he claims that we do not need them, that they are not necessary for hunting, failing to see that the 2nd Amendment was not created so we could hunt(the Founding Fathers could not imagine that being denied) but to protect us from tyranny of our government, now he (Larry) is helping the government to do just that.

First, it should be lost on noone that the guy pulling this is named “Dick”. Second, Dick is in clear breach of contract and anyone who is affected by this should drag Dicks azz into court to recoup any extra money paid for firearms now that the price is up. Dick sould then be boycotted by every Second Amendment supporter in the country, showing Dick that Americans will not bow to political pressure and neither should Dick.

BOYCOTT DICK’S. Everything in the store is overpriced anyway. If you take a shopping app in with you, you’ll find some outrageous markups even when you include shipping from online retailers. It is time to bring down this corporation that not only doesn’t care to compete against others on price but is also obviously – ANTI-GUN. If you are going to pander to the anti-gun establishment to try and drive sales of your other sporting products, you are going to be sad when you sales go down because all of us gun owners who also bought your other sports equipment go SHOP somewhere else.

I agree wholeheartedly. I have gone to the store here in Madison, Wisc., and cut up my credit card, right at the counter.
What really pissed them off, however. Was when I cancelled an order for two gun safes, for our military veterans group. Which were to store our parade rifles and blank cartriges.
We’ll gladly pay a few bucks more. But it won’t be neccesary, for comperable equipment, from those who believe in the 2nd amendment.
I am tired of the liberals. They spit on me, back in the early seventies, when I returned, a decorated Airman, from ‘Nam.
They are still spitting on those, who gave their lives, for the sake of freedom and liberty.
Pardon me. But didn’t the Revolutionary war, have something to do, with freedom and liberty?

I’ve never shopped at Dick’s and probably never would have even without this…but I wonder if their refusal to complete these orders is due to them not wanting to sell a weapon for $700.00 which they are now paying $1200.00 for?

Troy can sue Dicks for damages. There are likely contractual agreements involved. Maybe Troy can make good on its sales directly to the customer, and then select a new retailer to distribute its merchandise. Wal-Mart might be needing an extra supplier of these items, since they are selling out of them all over the country. In the meantime, don’t shop at Dicks Sporting Goods. I’m surprised Dick’s was able to cancel special make up rifles from Troy Industries. Usually these special make up (SMU’s) are built with non cancelable purchase orders. Sounds like either Dick’s is breaking a contract or Troy Industries may need a better lawyer to write the fine print on its SMU agreements. Either way its a waste of time and effort but I’m sure it “feels good.” Its all window dressing for the socks and jocks side of the business where the antis thrive.

I’ll bet the cheapskates at Dick’s didn’t want to pay til delivery and had a cancel clause in the contract so they could weasel out if prices went too high. Back-Fire!

BassPro started as a wall of fishing gear in a Brown Derby Liquor store in Springfield, MO. George Bush made political campaign stops in the solidly republican city, just so he could shop at the HQ. Unfortunately I think some of their firearms, while excellent quality, might be a tad overpriced. They’re outdoor equipment is the most extensive I have ever seen though. For the outdoor enthusiast who is willing to pay for name brand equipment, there is no better place.

Being from the area I grew up with Bass Pro and since I turned 21 (years ago) Brown Derby. The last people to cave in to government pressure is the Morris family (Bass Pro & Brown Derby owners to those who don’t know). They are a bit overpriced but I have NEVER seen them pull products because of these tragic events pulled off by psychopathic individuals.

That’s why private-run co.s are better(Chik-Fil-a). They’re not infected by Progressives on their board of directors or major stock holders.
The reason corp.s are cheaper is that they get lower financing via big banks. Thomas Jefferson warned about banks and corp.s taking over thru Central Banking 200 years ago. He’s being proven right.

a Dick’s store recently opened up and no longer will i attend it, but as this situation progresses its harder to get anything, you go to most bass pro’s and ask if they have any ar-10 or 9mm ammo, and they will tell you to forget it, it’s being sold as soon as they hit the shelves. its hard to get ammo anywhere now including online.

Unlike the liberal left, I won’t go picket the store, break the windows, go in & disrupt their business, or follow the managers home & harrass their families. I, as a conservative, will simply take my business elsewhere. Luckily I made my major purchases right before Nov 6th so I have what I need. Dicks can run their business as they want to and I respect their rights. They just won’t ever get another penny of my business. Free market model, if they go out of business, I won’t cry. If they stay in business with other customers, that is fine. Freedom is freedom, at least until Comrad Obama & The wicked Feinstein of the west takes that away.

Just Hunters alone contribute 4.6 billion to the US economy yearly. That is a sizable chunk of market share to miss out on. If other firearm friendly outdoor enthusiasts also shop elsewhere, Dicks will have to start laying off people and closing stores. Maybe they can become a niche company and market to the limp wristed sackless environmentalists as they fight over the dope farmers amongst themselves. Tree hugging hypocrites need to wear ponchos now and then when they chain themselves to plants right?

Gee that might actually mean small, independent stores,( that were displaced by mega-marts which forced small local stores out of business) where they actually care about customers while they sell products lines they want to sell, might come back ? Oh my… parish the thought.

I have already written to the company about my displeasure at their decision.
They actively marketed ‘modern sporting rifles’ as the holiday approached.
They continue to sell multi round shotguns and rifles, as well as the requisite .223 or 5.56 ammo for the AR platform.

And in point of fact, their employees did the right thing… When the shooter tried to buy weapons they turned him away…

So why the knee jerk EmOtIoNaL response for a corporation? Someone has overreacted, and the further decision not to honor agreements already made with customers I hope will come back to bite them in the keester…

Capitulating to the feeling driven minority who DON’T PURCHASE FIREARMS IN THE FIRST PLACE, much less a majority of the other products the store offers is a losing proposition… capitulating to protestors at the expense of your customers.

As I told them, I would prefer to shop locally, but if they cannot understand how their decision adversely affects gun owners, gun rights, and their bottom line, I will happily drive to Cabela’s or Bass Pro Shops, where they recognize it is not the tool but the person wielding it.
