Scattered Shower of Journalism? CNN Confronts Jesse Jackson Over Chicago’s High Gun Violence Despite Draconian Gun Laws

Longtime listeners of Glenn Beck know the radio host has a recurring bit he does when the mainstream media — seemingly out of nowhere — performs a tough interview or asks tough questions. He calls it “scattered showers of journalism.” And it was pouring on the CNN set on Friday.

During a segment on Chicago reportedly hitting the sad milestone of its 500th homicide in 2012 (there is now a discrepancy), the Rev. Jesse Jackson was asked to explain how gun violence in Chicago can be so high despite the Draconian gun laws. Additionally, the host pointed out that if such gun laws were enacted on a larger scale, couldn’t we expect a similar rise in violence in other big cities?

Jackson squirmed, and even oddly tried to blame gun ranges for the massacre: “You know, I think about Newtown, for example, they have three or four gun ranges. Now, there are no gun ranges in Chicago.Β  [They] have almost no unemployment. … Newtown is so different than the complexity of the urban crisis.”

But the host didn’t back down.

“Rev. Jackson, I’m going to make one more turn at this question, because the original question was, Chicago has some of the strictest and most tough gun laws in the country,” he said boldly. “If this level of gun laws doesn’t work in Chicago, and you still have the guns coming from outside the city in, and now you got 500 homicides this year, what is the argument to extending this nationally and to other cities?”

Jackson responded that “the guns are not coming from Chicago,” but the host noted that Chicago still isn’t working as a model for gun control considering 87 percent of the homicides were gun-related.

“Chicago is in a bubble as the manufacturer β€” we’re a target market for gun flow. And they exploit the poverty and the pain,” he said, before expanding the blame on “lack of education and lack of dreams.”

In other words, he seemed to admit that stopping violence isn’t really all about guns.

Watch the exchange below via Mediaite:

In CONTROL, Glenn Beck presents a passionate, fact-based case for guns that reveals why gun control isn’t really about controlling guns at all; it’s about controlling us. Find out more HERE.

I live in a suburb north of Chicago and every Monday morning I turn on the news and I hear of the weekend shootings and the deaths that are related. No weekend passes without 4-5 deaths and multiple injuries. I have yet to see or hear Jackson or Sharpton calling out for an end to the violence. Couple of loud mouth hypocrits.

Funny how this Marine felt more safe and at ease in Iraq than he would on nearly any street in any big city in our nation. Not to mention streets with the name of a famous man with a dream. More people are killed here in the U.S. on an annual basis than are killed fighting overseas in our unnecessary and unwinnable wars on terrorism.

Also, on an only slightly related topic; how is it that we live in a nation that exports fiction novels and movies that regularly depict a star rising above government oppression and defeating countless enemies, but so many of us just shirk and bend over when our own governing body want to insert said body into their anuses? Why aren’t we doing what we should and taking these corrupt politicians and tarring and feathering them or confiscating their ill-gotten taxpayer wealth?

I bet Jessie Jackson wouldn’t be caught down in the hood after dark even with his bodyguard. All he had to answer the CNN speaker was that those 400 + homicides were thugs and gang war – The Chicago way. Most of the gang deaths were the ones that brought a knife to a gun fight.

      heck, why stop with Chicago.

Ask Jackson why blacks make up 12.5% of the population, but do half of the nation’s murders. Most of the murders are done with cheap handguns. The “assault rifle” kills less folks than knives do.

If Jackson and crowd could bring black murder rates down to where white murder rates are, they would drop the nation’s murder rate by almost 40%, and save a whole lot of black lives.

We do know that libs, and the professional race hustlers are not about saving black lives. If they were, they would call for the abortion clinics to be taken out of the black neibhborhoods. if they were concerned about black murder rates, they would stand up against violent rap music.

if they were really concenred about black murder, they would see that it is intrinsically tied to welfare, and the programs from the left.

Jackson is about lining his own greedy pockets with money.

“Draconian gun laws”? Every other industrialized Democracy in the world has more restrictive gun laws than those in the United States of America. Every single one. So gun laws in the US are “draconian?” By what standard? Not the standard of other Democracies. So then, by what standard are US gun laws “draconian?” US gun laws are draconian only when compared to lawless countries who have no gun laws.

I don’t believe one has to compare place X to place Y in order to proclaim place X having ‘draconian gun laws’.

      DraΒ·coΒ·niΒ·an [drey-koh-nee-uh n, druh-]
      adjective
      1. of, pertaining to, or characteristic of Draco or his code of laws.
      2. ( often lowercase ) rigorous; unusually severe or cruel:

Definition #2 will fit depending upon the mindset of the person proclaiming the law is draconian. ‘Severe’ and ‘cruel’ can be relative terms, just as ‘rich’ and ‘poor’ can be.

jhrusky you get points for posting the definition of the word “draconian.” But you lose points for suggesting that the meaning an individual gives to a word is as valid as the way the meaning the rest of the world gives to that word. Were that true, language would have no meaning.

But you are onto something. If I say that the requirement to stop my car at a stop sign is a “draconian” requirement, according to me, then I can feel comfortable not stopping at intersections. And because it’s draconian, and therefore illegitimate, then I, and everybody, has no obligation to follow traffic regulations, because in my mind they are draconian and restrict my freedom to drive as I choose.

Please, jhrusky, tell me where in the Constitution of the United States of American does it say I can’t drive my car when I want, as fast as I want and prohibits me from driving through any intersection I want when I want. Look for it jhrusky and you won’t find a single dang thing in the Constitution that prohibits me from driving my car however I want. And you are un-American for suggesting otherwise!

sendthemeatballs is a typicl lib in his hatred for America.

One has to know that in the history of the world, we have only been around for a little over 200 years, making us a very young nation.

When compared to other nations, we are the beacon of freedom, and our constitution is unique. The founding fathers recognized certain rights that already belong to the people, and that the gov only protects these rights. One of those rights is our right to keep and bear arms.

Meatball like to clamor on and on about the murder stats of other nations, but there is one statistic that he just hates to hear, and refuse to talk about.

He hates when we remind him that our murder rate is intrinsically tied to our welfare population. He hates when we remind him that our black population is only 12% of the total pop, but they do half of the nation’s murders. If black murder rates were the same as whites, we would lower the nation’s murder rate by a huge 40%.

Meatball claims to have a college education, but I somehow doubt it, or he would find these stats significant.

We need to make an analogy the progressives can understand, since they are the lowest common denominator of intelligence. Look at all the drug laws we have in place for the use and distribution of illegal drugs in America. Does that stop the average progressive from getting stoned in Mommy’s basement every day? Do progressives have problems buying the drugs they enjoy so much? I think not. What makes you think gun laws will be any different? The only people laws effect are those who live by them, and that surely doesn’t include progressives. Your little Utopia will always be a figment of your imagination. Grow up kids!

“Stop” is a fairly easy to understand word. It’s hard to interpret wrongly what the word means. “Excesive” or “Sever” are the opposite… the definition of words as such are in the minds of the beholders. You may think it’s excessive to possess more than 100 rounds of ammunition while I think it’s perfectly normal to have 5000 rounds. You may think it’s excessive to have a house over 3000 square foot while I might think it’s normal to have a 7000 square foot home.

Back to “stop” … I don’t believe you can make an argument that such a word can mean different things.

As to ‘where in the constitution…”? There is none. The Constitution doesn’t say you have a right to drive a car. The state gives you that privledge should you abide by the rules they require you to obey in order to use that privledge.

For producing functionally illiterate students? For producing future feckless politicians living off of the taxpayers’ teat? For producing students whose strongest knowledge is how to game the system and live off the backs of those who do work and do struggle to make a living? not only did JHRUSKY give sendthemeatballs an English lesson, we also see another lib trying to play word games and semantics.

Leave it to the group that worships a man that argued over the meaning of the word “is” to play word games.

What libs cannot do, is argue a topic on the merits. They lose on facts, they lose on history, and they lose on logic and critical thinking. Once they know they will lose, they call names like racist, sexist, islamaphobe, or homophobe.

I agree with you in part. Jackson has never been relevant in the first place, so I’d have to say he hasn’t risen high enough to become irrelevant. He hasn’t even risen to the level of a viable resource for truth, and thus can’t even lay claim to being an anachronism. He’s simply non-existent. That’s the basic reason no one should ask him a question about anything, least of all even the most incongruous or innocuous subject matter. What I find most telling about this particular article is that Jackson usually can depend on the newscaster to cue him for the answers because they are of the same race. What Jackson was completed taken aback about is why his “brother” was asking such a logical question of him on national TV. Worse yet, the newsman wouldn’t let Jackson off the hook, which must have really puzzled whoever that interviewee was – probably because he’s so non-existent, I can’t seem to recall his name.

For the same reason people try to argue with SENDTHEMETEORS on this forum. The only difference between Jesse Jackson and SENDTHEMETEORS is the size of their lips and the size of their egos….the former’s ego now shrunken into an ossified Cook County stalagmite and the latter’s ego is still developing as he tries to hijack threads on this forum…..but he still can’t get the pretty girl in Calculus class to give him the time of day……and so he comes here. Always thinking of “Indira” the hot Pakistani chick in Calculus class who won’t even look at him……and so he whittles away at people’s nerves on the Blaze. I ignore both Jesse Jackson and SENDTHEMETEORS….the same way I ignore the germs on a public bathroom door….I just don’t touch any knob jobs….be they on doors or in YOUTUBE format or posts on this forum. Sadly, Chicago is one of the toughest cities with gun violence, mostly drug, gang and crime related, and states like Texas, with many more legal guns and the right to not only own but to be able to carry them, have some of the lowest. Rev. Jackson and others can’t blame it all on others bringing in guns, their own citizens & criminals are the ones buying, stealing 7 using them to commit so much crime & death.

With so many states and cities now allowing concealed carry and having even more guns but less crime it shows that the problem is more in and with Chicago and their government and laws than others. No wonder the President and his family want to live in even DC, plus vacation in Hawaii and not come home to Chicago, and look at the security that he has when he goes there, plus his friend, their Mayor.

Maybe they should listen less to Mayor Blumberg and their own leaders locally and look to the other states and states with lower crime rates & take some lessons from what works in those cities & states. The idea of not allowing law abiding citizens to have a gun to protect themselves & defend their homes while criminals, who don’t obey the laws but do have guns, seem more in control than the Mayor & the City Council and state officials. Surely, if other cities have the guns but don’t have the murders then it must be in Chicago and committed by their citizens, not outsiders coming in and committing all of the crime and murders they are having there today. He (Obama) can not get past what he thought going into this job. The liberals thought Bush had people around him that just spewed the company line, look at this president! Anyone on welfare, food stamps or other government assistance for an extended period of time, is a perpetual child that refuses to be self reliant. Self reliance with dignity and integrity defines actual adulthood as opposed to the society we have that is made up of really old children.

I believe people are and do express their outrage at abortions, but the government has not banned them and don’t seem as worried about them as they are the gun ranges and law abiding citizens with guns. Maybe you should suggest to the Mayor and Council, and the President, that outlawing and banning abortions would save lives & make up far more than the 500 that they blame on the guns killing.

Somewhere along the line it would seem they would wake up and make realistic changes but the “Chicago Way” seems to be so well in place & repeated that it can’t be changed by even the President or his Mayor, who he has trained and taken with him until now, when he let him go back home to get it ready for the re-election. I wonder where the President and his family will move when they leave DC? For some reason I believe the odds are more for Hawaii than they may be for Chicago & kids in school there, even with the Secret Service to protect them and keep them from joining the 500+ by then. Sad.

I have been starting to post the same argument. I do see the horrifying scene in CT but the same day, statistically, in the US, 3,200 abortions were performed. Since ’73, 55,000,000 babies, number has been rounded, have been murdered and that has been done with government approval. The moment the government stops legal murder and using my tax dollars, then we can move on to gain moral high ground. Until then, we are nothing more than the people who bomb buses.

@ Matyelizabeth….. Because this loudmouth race pimp inserts’ himself into every possible national conversation that even remotely has anything to do with race. In this instance he was faced with a question that, if answered honestly, would once again expose him for the fraud he is. He is hardly some humble “minister” who works to spread the Gospel of the Savior in whom he professes belief. His mission on earth is to foment racial division and eventually see the white man in chains. He knows as well as the rest of us do that more gun control means fewer armed law abiding citizens. His gandbanger brothers will never give up the tools of their trade, namely ILLEGAL guns.

So as always, we must defend our desire for guns to the highest degree and be question on every single fact we present but they can just mumble any incoherent response and it is acceptable and deemed an appropriate answer answer.

All it would take a just a few real journalist to put this to rest. If they would truly make these people present facts and not just opinions they would shut up very quickly about gun control.

That man never answers a question that makes him look like the total a.. he is, so it just makes him look like a worse one. Silly to have expected an intelligent answer.

He’s a reverend? What the heck is that? Self-described. He indicated preference for gay marriage? Do not be deceived by unChristian professed christians. This tool is nothing but a lying deceived individual that the media prefers. reverend Al Sharpton, another misguided soul, these guys get summoned to the White House on a regular basis, this is the Moral Compass of our direction taken by these scoundrels? This is indicative of the lies that come out of this very large group of imbiciles.

If it weren’t so sad, it would be entertaining. GOD Bless Everyone.

” they exploit the poverty and the pain,” he said, before expanding the blame on β€œlack of education and lack of dreams.” Sounds like he is talking smack about himself and Rev Al. Never one to exploit and all.
