Sherriff Joe Announces Plan to Mobilize Armed Posse to Guard Schools

Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio has announced plans to deploy an armed volunteer posse to protect Phoenix-area students in the wake of the mass shooting at a Connecticut elementary school.

“I have the authority to mobilize private citizens and fight crime in this county,” said Arpaio, according to KTVK-TV.

He says he doesn’t plan to put posse members inside schools but will have them posted around the perimeters.

“I don’t know if they agree [to my plan] or not. I’ll coordinate with them,” the Maricopa County sheriff said, referring to the various school districts. “We’re not talking about placing the posse in the schools right now but in the outlying — the perimeters of the school — to detect any criminal activity.”

The sheriff also explained that the thinks the idea of armed professionals is better than arming teachers and school staff.

“I support arming cops in the schools,” Arpaio said. “If you have a cop that’s armed you don’t need a teacher that’s armed.”

He continued, explaining that now is the time for action.

“[Politicians] are going to be talking about the guns now for years. But I have certain resources at my disposal and I’m not going to talk about it. I’m going to do it,” Arpaio said.

The Arizona sheriff is known as one of the nation’s most high-profile supporters of strict U.S.-Mexico border policy. His plan announced Thursday comes after two other Arizona officials released ideas for boosting school security.

Attorney General Tom Horne proposed firearms training for one person in each school. And Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu proposed training multiple educators per school to carry guns.

We have all sorts of illegal alien related problems such as safe houses used by smugglers to imprison their clients while they extort, torture and/kill them. We have had the cartel take on the Phoenix Police Department it running gun battles with the police being out gunned. Sheriff Joe has not backed down from any of this but has consistently and legally pursued any and all of them.

He has consistently detained illegals and turned them over to ICE without “profiling”. EVERY attempt by the liberals, local and national, to try and find something they can charge him with has failed.

He offers addition cure programs in his jails (it is voluntary). He recently graduated another group from the program. I’ll bet you didn’t hear about any of this in the national press did you.

He just won reelection with a very nice majority of voters even after every and I do mean every liberal organization local and many national too, dumped tons of money and organizational power to beat him.

Sheriff Joe is a “can do” guy. If there is a way to do it, he will find it. He said he will run for sheriff one more time when this term is up. We can only hope he will have the health and desire to do so.

I will take “Mean Ol Sheriff Joe” over Eric Holder any day as my sheriff. I know he is watching my back and not try to stab me in the back. I don’t personally know Joe nor have I ever personally met him.

All you obliviots who hate Sheriff Joe in reality just hate “L

Sheriff Joe used that infamous “Redneck Posse” to start paroling the mall parking lots each and every Christmas shopping season. The crime wave was stopped in its tracks. Since then it has been very safe to shop at the local malls. BTW there was not even ONE member of the Redneck Posse that killed anyone or had a brutality charge leveled at them. They were great.

Years ago our local animal shelter had a BIG scandal on the lack of care and mistreatment of the animals they were charged to protect and care for. Again, all the politicians and city “leaders” would say that it was a crime but that there just wasn’t any money to fund the shelter so there was nothing they could do.

Sheriff Joe (yeah that hard hearted meanie) offered to take over and run the shelter. To this day he has continued to do so. We now have a fine shelter with the animals being treated humanly while using his no nonsense style of management.

We have a HUGH illegal immigration problem here. Arizona is the Identity theft capitol of the US as the illegals us false ID’s. In Maricopa County we are less than 200 miles from the Mexican Border. We now have areas of southern Arizona (that includes a National Monument) that drug cartels control. You enter at your own risk! In Arizona, In the US Mexican cartels control OUR territory!!

Sheriff Joe has not backed down for all of the local and national liberals who could care less about the rule of law.

It is utterly amazing how well all of you liberals know the “real Joe”. As one Arizonian who has lived under many sheriffs in Maricopa County I can say without any hesitation that he is the very best sheriff we have had in my lifetime.

When Maricopa County had financial problems (read Democrat county supervisors overspent) our jails were over crowded to the point that the courts were going to start ordering the immediate release of some very unsavory inmates. Sheriff Joe said “No Way”. Brick & mortar jails were just too expensive so he open the “Tent City Jail” and posted a “Vacancy” sign in front of it.

He cut off the cable tv which was showing the inmates all of the R rated movies which only reinforces violence. He did many other things to help cut costs and he worked tirelessly to “encourage” the jailbirds that this was not a vacation and they really did not want to return for another “vacation”.

I have had several friends and relatives check in to Joe’ -4 star rated resort. All of them said it was no fun and that they definitely did not want to return for another visit. It was also interesting that they all said that if you kept your big mouth shut, obeyed the rules that you could do your time without any hassles.

About 15 years ago our local malls were experiencing a hugh crime wave during the Christmas shopping season. Thieft, carjackings, robbery and worse were happening almost daily. The city cops just wrung their hands and did NOTHING

And when one of the self righteous wanna-be’s kills someone it is the sheriff that should stand trial for first degree premeditated murder.

I am a legal gun owner who submitted to background checks, completed the appropriate training, and take gun ownership seriously. As law-abiding citizens we are expected to navigate the labyrinth of conflicting state laws regarding firearms and we do successfully everyday. Although many of these laws are conflicting between neighboring states, we still respect them and abide by them everyday. Let’s make it easy for everyone (including David Gregory) and develop a basic framework across the United States.

With 300 million firearms in private hands (one-third of them pistols), the overwhelming majority of gun owners ARE responsible, law-abiding citizens, which is why these horrific massacres are not commonplace, but rather horrific outliers that can never be legislated away (e.g. DC, Chicago, and “Gun Free Zones”).

By the way, if you see any of those far left liberal marxist communist pigs that are the domestic enemy within in those perimeters, be sure and arrest/charge them too as they are the ones who started/caused this whole mess to begin with. Local community members stepping up to look out for the students in their public community schools are not red necks.
Sheriff Joe is showing the country that states, counties and communities do not need the Federal government to solve our problems for us.
We the people have the power to solve our own problems on a local level.
Sheriff Joe is one reason I am proud to live in Arizona. Gov. Brewer is another reason.

When I was a boy in th 50s I use to listen to the men talk about their experiences in WWII. They didn’t equivocate and acted decisively. And after surviving The Battle of The Bulge and Iwo Jimo they knew right from wrong. No phony PC would be tolerated. Sheriff Joe is such a men too.

As much as I like Joe, on this…no. No more wasteful taxpayer spending or the creation of more useless government jobs when just letting qualified teachers or school staff lawfully carry firearms in school(or school functions) would avoid all of that. It wouldn’t cost taxpayers a dime.

  Your total lack of knowledge and understanding is overwhelming!! The volunteer posse is very much like your own national guard unit. They are totally volunteering their time and provide their own equipment.
  
  They receive the same training the regular sheriff deputes do so they are totally qualified to do what they are asked to do.
  
  NO, they do not do all of the heavy lifting. That is left for the regular deputes. They help with patrolling and security work as with the local malls during Christmastime.
  
  So when everyone else is wringing their hands saying nothing can be done to better protect our children without having more laws and/or committee meetings we have someone who; Has the resources that will not cost the taxpayer a single dime, can be implemented immediately and will be effective in reducing the potential problem and if anything does happen it will increase the chances someone WITH the proper training with a firearm could arrive at the school to stop the problem in its tracks.
  
  Amazing how you would NOT want that for your children and/or grandchildren.
  
  Please do Arizona a favor and STAY in your liberal gun control state/city and never move here. Oh and if you are from Chicago, congrats on your 500th homicide so far this year. Its thinking like yours that made it all possible.

That’s our Sheriff Joe – none like him. A real leader, believes in the rule of law and that nobody is above it and he stands frim on his principles. The yellow bellied bittie barry boy and bittie eric cannot stand him and they have been after him for years and truth always wins in the end. We need thousands more just like him.
