GLOUCESTER TOWNSHIP, N.J. (The Blaze/AP) — Three officers have been injured in a shooting at a police station in southern New Jersey.
The shooting occurred at the Gloucester Township police station in Camden County.
Police Chief Harry Earle says gunfire erupted inside the police station at about 5:45 a.m. Friday. The shooter, who was being held at the station, was shot and killed inside the municipal building.
MyFoxPhilly.com has more, including how the man got the weapon:
One male officer was shot twice, including once in the abdomen below his bullet-proof vest, and is in surgery this morning, police told the media during brief update Friday morning. That officer is reported to be in serious but stable condition at Cooper University Hospital.
Injuries to the other two officers, a man and a woman, were said to be “very minor.”
Police said a suspect was under arrest in connection with a domestic violence-related incident when a violent struggle with officers ensued around 5:30 a.m.
The suspect “obtained a firearm” during the struggle, police said. Officers then returned fire, killing the suspect.
Philadelphia News, Weather and Sports from WTXF FOX 29
Earle says two of the officers suffered graze wounds and were treated at a hospital and released. The third was hit twice in the leg and was undergoing surgery. Earle says he’s expected to recover quickly.

Dec. 28, 2012 at 2:49pmWhen in a tussle with a perp many officers experience their gun falling out of the holster. Sometimes a perp picks it up but most of the time they do not. If they arm themselves then it is a different story. The rest of the officers get to shoot them and it is legal. They become a living target for some target practice. Most perps have sense enough to know this.

Dec. 28, 2012 at 8:30pmOne common refrain here is that murderers don’t attack police at a police stations. Yuck, yuck, the bad guys know better! Yuck, yuck, the cops have guns so nobody is attack them! The perp knows they have guns so for sure they’d never attack cops at a police station!
Please don’t ever again try to support your ideas about gun control with your simplistic view that criminals don’t dare attack police in a police station because of the deterrent of all those police having guns. This guy did.
When you think about it, most cops are killed in cold blood because the criminal knows he has a gun. The fact that the cop has a gun makes him the first target. Your answer to mass murder is to give teachers guns? Then they become the first targets.
Actually, if you are intent on mass murder, an “organized” killer (that’s the FBI classification for a smart mass murderer who plans ahead, like the Aurora shooter) the first people you kill are the cops and/or the security guard, like the guy at the Holocaust Museum in DC did.
I’m a 100% in support of the police don’t get me wrong. But they are targets because they have guns, not in spite of the fact they have guns.

They (police) might have been beating him… They have been known to do that, or are you blind to that as well. Why is it Ice T is so much smarter than you… I don’t like Ice T, but he is right: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-GwIbyp4xBU
Here is an additional tid bit for you to view. Australia took guns away but only from the law abiding…, The government can not protect you and you cant protect yourself from either the police or the criminals who are sometime one in the same…
Why do we need AR15s with 30 round magazines? Because the police have them…

This dude was not a mass murder type, looking for easy victims like the recent shooting at Sandy Hook.
He was already in custody for domestic assault, while at the police station he started fighting, and
obtained” a gun.

“Stop” stated in a sharply pronounced in a commanding tone usually works. Of course it only works with my 3 year old granddaughter when she is trying to take ornaments off the Christmas tree. But still the theory should work on a 250 lb, 6’5″ guy with a knife. I will send a letter to Toure and encourage him to develop and use this powerful weapon.

After 9-11 this nation did not ban either passenger aircraft or box cutters for that matter. Rather better armored doors were installed on the crew cabins, and an ARMED Sky Marshal was put on these aircraft to protect the passengers. So far, that and primarily vigilant passengers have stopped terrorists on aircraft. Yet, you still come up with your knee jerk reactions to disarm the lawful rather than attack the actual cause.

Dec. 28, 2012 at 9:42amHad to have been from one of the detectives, unless one of the arresting officers still had a Type I holster. I wore a Type III holster about 12 years ago that required more than one particular movements of the weapon to essentially “unlock” it from the holster to be drawn. Practice, practice, practice makes the officer proficient and rapid at this, but the angle that another person comes from makes it almost impossible for an assailant to take the officer’s weapon. We had an incident where a huge guy attacked one of our officers and was even able to rip the leather at some of the stitching and the holster never let go. But, we will have to wait to see if this department releases such information. There will be that embarrassment factor along with the potential of knee jerk reactions by members of the public as well as the know nothing politicians.
