Who Was 2012′s ‘Nanny of the Year’ in Honor of Gov’t Overreach? Hint: @!%$
It’s time again for Reason’s annual “Nanny of the Year” award — the honor that’s handed out by the libertarian think tank every year in honor of the person, group, or law that epitomizes government overreach.
This year’s race came down to three tough choices:
- The Middleborough, Mass., ban on curse words
- An Arizona politician who really dislikes Photoshopped models
- A New Jersey politician who’s none too fond of bikinis.
“The Nannies have been as male-dominated as the Academy Award for best director, but for the first time in history most of the nominees are women! Will this be the year that Nanny gold finally ends up in a woman’s hands?” the video’s description reads.
Who will win? There can only be one:

Posted on December 29, 2012 at 7:56pmObama is the clear winner of the “nanny” award. Just look what he has given to those that voted for him this year. They, however, remain the same, uninformed and ignorant to the conditions of the country.

Posted on December 28, 2012 at 11:26amHow does Bloomberg’s fat and soda bans, as well as his elitist stand on firearms not put him head and shoulders above the crowd?
the cursing is ridiculous but if kids are around given our society’s inability to consider their surroundings any longer, i don’t freak about that too much… any penalties would never hold up under appeal.
the bikinis… all bathing attire, seem ludicrous on a BOARDWALK, by definition at or near a beach, but if it’s a commercial setting, with businesses, and especially if restaurants worry about health department issues, support the measure, it’s a community choice… definitely worthy of consideration, but…
photoshopped models? Really? As if the family photos are not retouched at any reputable photography studio today… as if the politician in question does not know just how to stand so cameras give a more flattering appearance, and how to shape image for voters… the epitome of vanity that ‘concern for girls’ self esteem’ dictate how others behave. That gets my vote.
And I thought there was more sense in the people of Arizona…

Posted on December 28, 2012 at 4:20pmThe ban on curse words in school was #1? During my school days, a student got in trouble if they used curse words. I think Bloomberg’s ban on large sodas is heads and tails above any Nanny.

Posted on December 28, 2012 at 10:58amYou can take my 16 oz. Dr. Pepper but when you start messing with bikinis and photoshopped super models, well, that’s a big f’ing deal! Nobody better be messing with the bikinis and the swimsuit edition. What is wrong with this country?
