Embattled French President Francois Hollande suffered a fresh setback Saturday when France’s highest court threw out a plan to tax the ultrawealthy at a 75 percent rate, saying it was unfair.
In a stinging rebuke to one of Socialist Hollande’s flagship campaign promises, the constitutional council ruled Saturday that the way the highly contentious tax was designed was unconstitutional. It was intended to hit incomes over €1 million ($1.32 million).
The largely symbolic measure would have only hit a small number of taxpayers and brought in an estimated €100 million to €300 million — an insignificant amount in the context of France’s roughly €85 billion deficit.
Prime Minister Jean-Marc Ayrault was quick to respond, saying in a statement following the decision the government would resubmit the measure to take the court’s concerns into account. The court’s ruling took issue not with the size of the tax, but with the way it discriminated between households depending on how incomes were distributed among its members. A household with two earners each making under €1 million would be exempt from the tax, while one with one earner making €1.2 million would have to pay.
The French government approved the tax in its most recent budget, amid criticism by some that it would do little to stem the country’s mounting fiscal problems and would drive away the wealthiest citizens. Hollande’s popularity, meanwhile, has been on the wane as the country’s unemployment continued its rise for the 19th straight month.
In recent weeks, Gerard Depardieu — France’s most famous actor — announced his intention to turn in his French passport and move to a village in a tax-friendly Belgium.

Dec. 29, 2012 at 7:32pmZeus: How disingenuous of you. You’re implying that the Nixon and Reagan implemented those tax rates when they inherited them from previous administrations. After all, the top rate was 90% under Kennedy and it he dropped them to the 70% that Nixon inherited from Johnson.
As we all can see, it’s a lot easier to blame the wealthy for everything thus making top bracket tax reductions a lot more difficult. In fact, the only way to drop the top bracket is in conjunction with cuts throughout the whole tax structure.

Eliminate the inheritance tax.
Eliminate the capital gains tax.
Income under $50,000: 10% tax rate
Income from $50,000 to $100,000: 15% tax rate
Income from $100,000 to $250,000: 20% tax rate

The Jewish banking cartel manipulates currencies to make some societies more wealthy and others more poor. Through their international central banking scheme, they allow the wealth of one nation, America, to be transferred to another nation, China, in order to build the infrastructure needed to create more consumers.
The Rothschild’s and their progeny have been stealing our futures for quite a long time. In 1863 they said it better than I could ever say it, “Give me control of a nation’s money and I care not who makes it’s laws.”

She used a hidden camera. One wonders what would happen if they thought they could get away with anything?
Liberalism imposes multiculturism, which ends in the death of the culture that the liberals grew up in. then to flee to another country to enact the same liberal nonsense.
Kind of like how Californicators move to Oregon & Washington to escape high taxes only to enact high taxes in the news states or residence.
Liberalism is a mental disorder.

While some Jewish lawyers started the ACLU & the NAACP, I can see why they did it & why they were communist. They did it for the same reason former President Vicente Fox’s ancestors became Mexican. That said I intensely dislike communists & the ACLU.
Oh & I like listening to Michael Medved (Jewish) & I think highly of David Horowitz (Jewish). Horowitz runs Frontpage Magazine & I have his book Radical Son.

The Banking cartels DO manipulate world currencies. The Federal Reserve is the worst offender.
The Rothschilds were evil and have done tremendous harm throughout history. The family’s original ethnicity has nothing to do with their actions. Ignorant antisemitism has been a safety blanket for them through history as well. Everyone gets caught up in demonizing Jews and ignores the REAL economic and political problems. Don’t fall into that trap yourself.
A hundred years from now should we blame every terror incident on the Bin Laden family, and therefore all Muslims are terrorists because the Bin Ladens are Muslim?

Some makes it’s way back to the functioning economy over time, but it takes time and disrupts the natural order. Politicians do not care as long as they get theirs. In the private sector the punitive measures for incompetence and greed are swift and sure. Dec. 29, 2012 at 12:17pmWell it’s to counter act the tax breaks that are in place. For example why should a person get a lower rate of taxation for capital gain, instead of regular income.
Capital Gain is being exploited. Where a person has what is effectively their regular income considered as capital gains. When Capital Gain is supposed to be to protect a person who had a long term investment.
So the rich person expliots something. And they get punished for other aspects. Then it evens out.
Have to balance out the economy long term. Or it will fail. IE- no middle class leads to lower demand. Which leads to crap economy.

Dec. 29, 2012 at 10:26amIt’s clear in France as it is here, it’s not about revenue but about making a statement regarding the disparity of incomes, nothing more than a political bone to throw the voters.
If the economy and solving the US’ financial woes were really the goal of any of the Lib’s machinations, taxes would go down, tax revenues would go up, everyone would pay more taxes based on higher incomes…not higher rates.
Remember Ol’ Joe in the debate: “never happened, not ever” when Ryan said lowering rates increased revenues. A standard Lib ‘don’t try to bring facts into this discussion, my mind is made up’ reply.
We lost, we’re still losing with Boehner fumbling around and we’ll continue to lose as long as the Libs have free reign to hand out US Treasury gift cards in exchange for votes…doesn’t matter that the gift cards are debit cards with no money in the account.

Dec. 29, 2012 at 3:03pmBased on empirical data & the Laffer Curve We could have a 20% to maybe a 22% tax rate.
Could does not mean should. We should try to eliminate poverty or at least try to keep it as small as possible. I know Jesus said the poor shall always be among you. Apparently liberal Christians & just plain libs forgot that. However I believe in what Ben Franklin said. He said the poor must not be made comfortable but be chased out of poverty. Lyndon Baines Johnson War on Poverty has failed. Time to shoulder the liberals aside & fix their mistakes. If we succeed & the QDR shows no threats in the horizon, it would be immoral to have even a 20% tax rate.
I think tithing your government & tithing your church if you are so inclined is a formula for success
(Atheists can always tither the charity of their choice).
