N.Y. Newspaper Announces it Will Publish More Names & Addresses of Gun Owners
Apparently undeterred by retaliation from a pro-Second Amendment blogger, the editorial staff at Gannett’s “Journal News” is at it again.
After creating an uproar for publishing the names and addresses of gun owners in New York’s Westchester and Rockland counties, “Journal News” announced it would release and publish the names and addresses of permit holders in Putnam County, according to Reuters.
“Further names and addresses will be added as they become available to a map originally published on December 24 in the White Plains, New York-based Journal News,” the report notes.
The map was included in an article entitled “The gun owner next door: What you don’t know about the weapons in your neighborhood,” that was released shortly after a shooting spree in Newtown, Conn., claimed 26 lives, including 20 children.
“Some 44,000 people are licensed to own pistols in the three counties, the newspaper said. Owners of rifles and shotguns do not need permits,” Reuters adds.
The newspaper’s decision to publish the names and addresses of permit holders has been met with both praise and criticism.
“Do you fools realize that you also made a map for criminals to use to find homes to rob that have no guns in them to protect themselves?” Rob Seubert of Silver Spring, Maryland, wrote on the newspaper’s web site. “What a bunch of liberal boobs you all are.”
Meanwhile, Sen. Greg Ball (R-N.Y.) announced plans to introduce legislation that would keep the names and addresses of gun owners private except to law enforcement.
“The asinine editors at the Journal News have once again gone out of their way to place a virtual scarlet letter on law abiding firearm owners throughout the region,” the senator’s website reads.

After the newspaper launched its ‘gun owners’ map, pro-Second Amendment blogger Robert Cox retaliated by releasing a map with the names & addresses of ‘Journal News’ employees.
For her part, CynDee Royle, VP of news and editor, stands by the newspaper’s decision to publish private citizens’ information.
“We knew publication of the database would be controversial, but we felt sharing as much information as we could about gun ownership in our area was important in the aftermath of the Newtown shootings,” she said.
But Al Tompkins, media critic for the Poynter Institute, writes that the newspaper failed to justify its decision to publish permit holders’ personal information.
“If journalists could show flaws in the gun permitting system, that would be newsworthy,” he said. “Or, for example, if gun owners were exempted from permits because of political connections, then journalists could better justify the privacy invasion.”
He continued, adding that he “feared the dispute might prompt lawmakers to play to privacy fears,” as Reuters notes.
“The net effect of the abuse of public records from all sides may well be a public distaste for opening records, which would be the biggest mistake of all,” he said.

Posted on December 29, 2012 at 1:23pmLets put away all the BS ONCE-AND-FOR-ALL
Over and over and over [ad nauseum] we hear the same old tired arguments being made because
no one has the STONES to actually state the TRUTH.
Example:
Last night on CNN [communist news network] there was a “debate” on the gun subject featuring
none other than liberal numbnuts Roland Martin and some weak GOP “strategist”.
Martin parrots the same old “hunters have no reason to need 30-40 round clip’
At one point he actually chuckled and said “Hey, if you need 30 rounds to hit a deer — you cant shoot”
Truth:
This isnt about hunters.
What it IS about is FREE LIBERTY-LOVING citizens armed to defend themselves against a tyrannical government.
Citizens need to be able to match the capabilities of their potential oppressors.
Its called “Balance Of Power”
That is what our Founding Fathers specifically outlined from the beginning.

Posted on December 29, 2012 at 6:01pmCan I give you a warning of what not to follow. Granted here in Australia we have never had an equivalent amendment to our constitutions as your 2nd amendment, nor do we have the right to free speech enshrined in our constitution, something I hope will be corrected after the next election.
How they took our guns.
First they toughen the shooters license and then make it illegal to have a gun without said license, Then they demand that all the honest citizens register their guns for a multiple of reasons eg: easier to identify when stolen, make it harder for the criminals to have guns (haha), it is easier to arrest said criminals when they are not licensed etc, etc. Then it will be against the law to have a gun in the house without keeping it under lock and key in a gun safe and again tightening shooters licenses, and now that they know who owns what weapon and where they are kept they will begin the banning of certain types of firearms, type by type.
Little by little they will take all your freedoms away and they are very very good at sounding reasonable when they are just the opposite.

What goes around comes around. How unfortunate for the brainless arrogant progressives who are willing to do anything, even put the lives of people at risk simply to reach “the end” because after all when it comes to arrogant progressives it has become quite evident that they will crush anyone who gets in the way on the way to the end product…the ends ALWAYS justify the means with these people. I wonder how long it will take or how much suffering people will experience before they understand that premise…

It’s very difficult to get any pistol license here, much less a CCL . It’s so difficult that many don’t have a pistol license. Also, FYI NYS law requires that in a home invasion, if you have any means to escape your home, leaving it to the intruder, you must escape and avoid. Nonetheless I am of the double-ought school as are many of my neighbors.
I don’t mind the bears, foxes, white-tail and occasional cougar, which you would think easily justify “packing” unless you live your life “at the mall”. It’s the political predators that have taken over this state, from whom there is no escape.

1. “Meanwhile, Sen. Greg Ball (R-N.Y.) announced plans to introduce legislation that would keep the names and addresses of gun owners private except to law enforcement.”
Doesn’t the Police already have the info? Why reiterate the point? Could it be an expansion is coming like perhaps involuntary ballistic gathering? Hope not.
2. By posting private information pertaining to weapon possession, a process deemed private by law(you can’t get the list if you asked the police), was subjugated by law for what purpose?
Private info such as: Name, address etc.,, was private,is this not a abuse of power on the part of the newspaper? Like Wikileaks before it? Posting such information of non-violent law abiding citizens serves what purpose? Who might it help later down the road? Is this a precursor to instead of “The gun owner next door: What you don’t know about the weapons in your neighborhood,” what about “The Christian/Jew/Muslim next door: What you don’t know about the Religious Zealots/Zionist Pigs/Terrorist in your neighborhood,”. Hitler used similar tactics to placate to the fears already existing in minds of the German ppl. Their economy was in shambles, jobs were scarce, ppl afraid of what was to come.
What is my point? Does it seem like we are on a downward spiral/slippery slope to 1uping each other? After they post more info, what will be the response by their opposing side? WHEN will this lead to violence(like they want)?

Posted on December 29, 2012 at 10:45amThese guys still ignore the reality that legal gun owners hardly ever (statistically “never”) commit crimes with guns, especially those who’ve had to undergo a background check to get a permit in restrictive states like NY.
It’s like a mantra that has eroded their brains to the point that no amount of statistical proof to the contrary will have any effect on their outlook.
The broadcast “news” outlets” are no better, notice how they always point out whether a firearm is semi-automatic when involved is a shooting; they don’t know what that means, and “semi” vs “full” auto is the same thing to them. It just sounds more menacing, the bullets somehow more deadly.
Ignorance, bias, self-interest, the keystones of America’s current excuse for journalism. If the folks in these areas don’t already have a good gun safe, they should definitely get one now.

Home owners are advised to make every effort to leave the residence and call the police voice mail. It’s a Class 6 Felony to discharge a deadly weapon within the city limits.
The use of a firearm against a burglar or assailant is at least a Class 3 Felony and may result in a civil lawsuit. After the lawyers and the legal system get done, you would be advised to help the burglar load your property into his car.

Next, if you left self defense up to the professional now it wouldn’t be self defense would it. What do you plan on doing if an burglar stands between you and your kids room, leave the house to go get help while leaving your kids to take care of themselves against the criminal. \

Posted on December 29, 2012 at 8:46pm@LAMARR01, shooting at and killing a burglar that you know is unarmed is illegal in every State. The difference is, in most rational States you can assume that someone that has broken into your home is armed so you want be prosecuted unless they can show you knew the burglar was unarmed. Next, if you left self defense up to the professional now it wouldn’t be SELF defense would it. What do you plan on doing if a burglar stands between you and your kid’s room, leave the house to go get help while leaving your kids to take care of themselves against the criminal.

Posted on December 29, 2012 at 10:41amIsn’t it amazing how this liberal rag of a newspaper and its decision makers would rather demonize those people following the law than those who do not follow the law?
I think the guy that posted the map of the reporters addresses should do a FOIA on each and publish their contents.

Posted on December 29, 2012 at 11:10amWell when your whole existent in life is to kick God out, the only spirit left to fill the void is Satan. Someone should post a list of EVERY Employee that works at the Gannett’s “Journal News”, and label each of them as a Satan worshiper. From the Satan Worshiper switchboard operator to the King Satan Worshiper himself the CEO. All of them are guilty of spiting in the face of God to promote their Communist agenda.
If you work for a company that sole purpose is to kick God out, then you are responsible for your word and deed. If your a business that supports this paper with your Advertising dollars, then you too are just as guilty.
Before all you Cable TV Viewers start agreeing, just remember every time you tune to Chris Mathews to see what stupid thing he is saying today, understand, your Cable subscribe provider is giving your viewing habits to the liberal media’s adverting Agency. These ratings are called Cable overnight ratings and if it wasn’t for Conservative voters watching CNN, NBC, MSNBC and the rest of Obama Lap Dog media they wouldn’t have any ratings to stay on the air.

Posted on December 29, 2012 at 6:01pmThe judges in my area give pedophiles a serious lecture and sentence them to a psychological evaluation. They aren’t supposed to live within 1,500 feet of a school or playground but that isn’t enforced. Listing the names and addresses of sexual predators can lead to compromising their civil liberties.

Posted on December 29, 2012 at 10:40amDo a google search for the employees addresses and look for the Zillow listings. You will see a lot of them have $500k to $1+ million dollar homes. Working for a newspaper that no one has heard of ??? These people are the 1%’ers. If I lived in the area. I would post the employee image on a picket poster and march in front of their homes. Put on my finest OWS feces stained sweats and let the neighborhood know, us poor people need their Gannett NY Journal News money. NOW, DAMNIT!

Posted on December 29, 2012 at 10:51amSo, I still wonder how they protect all of their expensive materialistic items with no firearm. If they live in 500k-1m dollar homes, then they should be a criminals dream. It is obvious to anyone that criminals would prefer to steal from a home owner that does not have a firearm. These employees probably do not even lock their doors or windows, why would they. If someone stole from them. Well, they would probably shrug it off as spreading the wealth.

Posted on December 29, 2012 at 10:39amAll this does is make the burglar’s job easier. They’ll get in their car, drive to a nice part of town, look at their handy interactive map of handgun owners and then rob their neighbor that doesn’t own one. Way to go Journal News, you probably just got one of your gun hating progressive friends burglarized, if not killed in the process.

This seems to be what is happening here, and encouraged by the Left.. Americans “turning in” or “outing” other Americans who own guns.. This is where it really starts to get scary. :(

Posted on December 29, 2012 at 11:20amThat is the least of what they are doing. their goal maybe to try to shame them or make them social pariahs.
Their goal may also be
– to put them in harms way & get gun owners killed.
– Hope some legal gun owner becomes unhinged & tries to harm on of the Gannett employees
– Hope that a gun gets stolen by a burglar & used in a homicide & that it is then traced to the gun owner’s name they published.
One more motive is to prop up flagging newspaper sales. Their staff has shrunk in recent years.
They are by conscious decision or by lack of reasoning making life more dangerous for gun owners.
We must reply in kind. Publish their names & addresses & gun ownership status. Publish whether they have ADT or other home security. Publish their net worth. Estimate if you have to. They created the class warfare model. Let’s use it. They have spend years preparing the ground for class warfare. Let’s use it. Publish how many square feet of living space they have. What cars they drive. How often they eat out. How fabulous there vacations are. Suppose they go to Disney World. That may not seem fabulous, but it is much more than some of they fellow citizen’s get.
Also if any of the higher up live in a gated community publish that.

They have gotten us into War before (Spanish-American War) & they have supported a war that we did not need to be in (WW1; see George Creel & the Committee on Public Information). As for Garnnett they have plenty of personal info to be disseminated in every state, city and town across the country. Post their address, tag number, family members etc.

Posted on December 29, 2012 at 10:35amThis newspaper is part of the Gannet media group. They own many TV Stations and Papers throughout the United States. Check to see if your local station is part of Gannet and let them know you will no longer watch their station. Check if your local paper is a Gannet Group company and cancel or refuse to subscribe to that paper. Let advertiser’s know you will not buy their products or shop at there stores, car dealerships, etc… if they advertise with Gannet owned TV & Newspapers.
It is time Conservatives and/or Gun Owners(could even be a Democrat gun owner out there) played things the lib way. Protest, start petitions, refuse to do business with these types of people. Let them know this will not be tolerated. Post or send letters to the editor of your local paper. Let your local TV station about how you feel about Gannet. Find out where the local reporters live and post their home addresses, family members, what they drive, car license plate numbers, phone numbers, etc…
Type it out and make a 100 copies or more and start posting them around town, put them on cars in parking lots. Let your voices be heard.

Send snail mail to the employees of the paper to their homes. They have to deal with the onslaught of physical stuff…and maybe get their postal carrier a little miffed. But then again, nothing wrong with keeping the postal service in business…honestly, I couldn’t imagine life without it…but that’s another debate.

I look forward to seeing all the dirty info on the personal lives of these employees. Send copies to neighbors within 1 mile of their residences.
