Angry Republican Rep. Peter King Tells New Yorkers Not to Give Money to GOP Following No Sandy Vote

Getty Images
Rep. Peter King (R-N.Y.) excoriated his own party Wednesday after House Republican leadership scrapped a vote on a Hurricane Sandy relief bill, calling on New Yorkers not to give a single penny to House GOP members.
“This is absolutely indefensible, this is inexcusable,” King said on Fox News. ”These Republicans have no problem finding New York when they’re out raising millions of dollars. They’re in New York all the time filling their pockets with money from New Yorkers. I’m saying right now, anyone from New York or New Jersey who contributes one penny to congressional Republicans is out of their minds. Because what they did last night was put a knife in the back of New Yorkers and New Jerseyans. It was an absolute disgrace.”
King said there were rumblings Tuesday night that the $60 billion aid measure might get pulled, but said House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) assured him there would be a vote once the “fiscal cliff” was dealt with.
“We confronted John Boehner on the floor and asked him,” King said. “He goes ‘no, wait until the fiscal cliff vote is over, we’ll take care of it.’ We were told it was 99 percent certain…the speaker walked off the floor, told an aide to the majority leader that the Congress was finished, there were no votes, and then they came back and told us.”
King said he wasn’t taking it as a personal offense, but as an offense for the thousands of people in his district and the hundreds of thousands of people in the affected areas. He said Congress appropriated $60 billion in aid 10 days after Hurricane Katrina, but that there hasn’t been one cent nine weeks after Sandy.
“All we’re saying is treat us the same everybody else has been treated,” King said. “Why the Republican Party has this bias against New York, this bias against New Jersey, this bias against the northeast? They wonder why they’re becoming a minority party? Why we’re going to be the party of the permanent minority? What they did last night was so immoral, so disgraceful, so irresponsible. They’re supposed to be the party of family values, and you have families that are starving, families that are suffering, families spread all over living in substandard housing. This is a disgrace.”
He added, “They are inexcusable and as far as I’m concerned, I’m on my own. They’re going to have to go a long way to get my vote on anything.”
King said it was a particular betrayal to New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, who crisscrossed the country campaigning for Republicans during the election.
“He went everywhere for Republicans all over the country, and what do they do? They knifed him in the back,” he said.

Posted on January 2, 2013 at 1:57pmAll Americans should want to provide emergency relief to areas experiencing storms, etc…..HOWEVER…we don’t owe complete rebuilding costs. Living on Long Island or in NY is a choice people make. Why should taxpayers finance rebuilding where problems can easily occur again and again, and why should taxpayers finance the rebuilding of highly plush, expensive east coast digs? People should insure their properties with consideration to location. Governmental relief should be toward restoring basic services, basic cleanup, emergency supplies/food, emergency rescues and evacuations, and low interest loans.

If you want Bills passed, please leave out the PORK, oink, oink. This bill wasn’t asking Americans to help Sandy people, they were asking us to cover every Tom, Dick & Harry’s special projects that have no business using American’s money. They can do all these pork projects on their own dime, just like the rest of us have to do. snort, snort, oink, oink.
Time to stop skrewing the Americans with all the Pork. Present the dam BILL alone, or forget it~~~

Posted on January 2, 2013 at 1:36pmDevastation in New Orleans from Katrina and it takes the Gov. five days just to get “water” to the victoms, and I couldn’t believe when I was watching as Mexico was sending a convoy of trucks over the bridge – before the U.S. Gov. was even thinking of getting off the pot! No crys against Gov. there.
Sandy hits NY, and everyone plus their grandmother was right there to help. Even Oby was there (even though it was for political gain). PLUS millions upon millions were donated to the Sandy Relief Concert where EVERY legendary rock band from the U.S. and U.K. showed up. AND THAT’S NOT GOOD ENOUGH?! Oh. How bout the NY & NJ Unions FORCING all non-Union VOLUNTEERS out of NJ even after they spent their OWN money to go and help! Then there’s the ol’ Sandy Relief Concert that was “non-profit”. Uh….by law the organizers (Bon-Jovi & Springsteen) ONLY had to actually hand over a whopping 30% of the MILLIONS they received over that. They are allowed the other 70% for “administration costs”. Bet ol’ Jon and Bruce are having more than “hamburgers” right now…
Answer this. If YOUR area got hit with a disaster, do you actually believe that Springsteen would come in and have “uber-legendary” rock stars give a four hour concert for your State? And yet….NOT ENOUGH for good ol’ NY and NJ!! “We are OBLIGATED to give MORE!”.

Instead of advising the electorate last year that all NYS republicans should stop donating to the GOP unless a ‘real conservative’ replace Romney on the ballot, King crawls on his belly for federal tax dollars just like Cuomo and Chucky ‘Cheese’ Schumer.
The rest of the country should not bail out NY for any reason.

Flood insurance was not an option for these NY homeowners.
