Glenn Beck Takes on Gun Control, Fiscal Cliff in 2013 Premier Broadcast

Glenn Beck marked his first broadcast of 2013 with two important issues that are sure to impact American life in the year ahead: the fiscal cliff, and gun control. While the two topics may seem totally unrelated, Beck explained why they have more in common than you think. In fact, essentially all issues or causes can always be extrapolated down to their most rudimentary and, most important component: “the why.”

In both cases, according to Beck, the reason why “is being sidestepped.” It doesn’t matter the topic, the most “crucial component of life,” according to Beck, is “the why.”

For example, while people are politicizing the horrific Newtown school shooting that left 28 dead as a means to call for tighter gun control, no one is getting to the root of the matter. For Beck, Adam Lanza was not a victim of broken gun laws or an overzealous Second Amendment. For Beck he wasn’t even the victim of a “prepper-nut” gun-toting mother. Lanza, like too many in today’s generation who engage in mass-shootings are a product of “broken families, a break-down of values, desensitization of our children through media, Hollywood, and video games.”

YouTube brawls and flashmobs, children confused by violent video games all indicate that children have grown up to be “dead inside,” according to Beck. And it very well may be true. When one delves into the heart of the matter and examines the situation honestly, would a weapons-bans change our culture’s morbid obsession with death and violence?

On a regular basis, impressionable children, at their most malleable and vulnerable stage of development, are given unfettered access to music, movies, television programs and video-games that glorify bloodshed. How can this not have a detrimental effect on one’s psyche?

At the end of 2012 Blaze, I wrote in a Blaze opinion column that our First Amendment rights give artists, filmmakers, writers, music-makers and video game creators the freedom to produce works promoting violence, just as we, the consumer, hold the power to support such material through our consumption. Still, when the bar of stimulus been set to such a high, and indeed depraved level, what can be expected? Will desensitization of both ourselves and our children not ensue?

Indeed, people of good will and sanity are not likely to commit unspeakable acts of violence simply for having listened to rap music or for having watched a movie displaying grotesque images of murder and mayhem, but long-term societal impact is brought to bear by what we, ourselves, condone (sometimes unwittingly) each and every day.

“I thought we were behind the eight-ball on the culture war,” Beck noted before stating that he never realized we were much worse off than even he had imagined. With a view toward better understanding the motivation behind the Newtown shooting, TheBlaze will unveil a special edition of The Glenn Beck Program Thursday, January 3.

  It is not even movies or video games. That is the same argument as the gun argument. Our fascination with death is becuase we are mortal creatures with self awareness. Since the dawn of man we have modeled our fiction, activity and religion around mortality or the cheating of it. If we disarm the public our freedom will fall. If we arm school faculty at some point in the future one of those armed faculty will go on a rampage. There is no solution that will “solve” the problem. Leaders will jump on these horrible events to take more controll from us and we will sit back and say “well we had to do something”. As the Greeks, Romans, and Egyptians before us we as a culture have moved away from our spiritual foundation that pulled us together as a working society, and we will soon suffer their shared fate

  Absolutely the breakdown of the family is at the root of the problem. Last Sunday was the Feast of the Holy Family. Our Father gave a fantastic sermon about how this very thing was contributing to the downfall of all that is good. He also, without bringing politics into the sermon, mentioned how Stalin and Lenin understood that if they could break up the family, they could control you.
  
  We have to start understanding that it all starts with the family. When the family doesn’t talk or eat together, or spends too much time texting on their cell phones, rather than spending it with each other, the family structure degrades. And at the center of the family is God, and without Him, we are not strong, we are weak. The closer we can move towards God and thus strengthen our family, the better off this country will be.

  This entire video is just a circle jerk knock of Simon Sinek’s books and presentations. And yet he gives no mention to the originator of the theory of “Why”. Glenn is a fraud and a fake.

  You are right in that GB has taken Mr Sinek’s presentation and modified it for his own message.
  
  However, “fraud” and “stupid” are much too strong. True, he might have credited Mr Sinek, but he was really doing exactly what Mr Sinek recommended. I think that Mr Sineck might be pleased that GB used his ideas in this way, assuming that he believes in the things that we do.
  
  It is very hard to go through life having completely original ideas, unless your last name happens to be Einstein. Mr Beck is doing what most of us in business, and other walks of life do, that is; we take known ideas and build on them.
  
  Making an exact copy and presenting it as one’s own would indeed be fraud, but this is not what Mr Beck did.
  
  Would you, for example, criticise a surgeon who took the known work of others and applied it to his own field – thereby incrementally improving the lot of humanity? Of course not, and that happens all the time.
  
  So, I agree, he might have credited Mr Sinek in his presentation, but your characterisations are way over the top.
  
  By the way, thanks for that link. I found that presentation well worth watching and I recommend it to others – especially those in business.

We have totally lost communication with each other on a personal level.
We no longer look at others as real, humans or someone that has feelings.
We are a selfish society that has turned our backs on god and what he wants from us.
To get attention and help lashing out with dispicable acts in desperation.
In short. Taught to not have a soul, empty inside.
Can government fulfill this need or just feed it. We lack love & understing.

  I maintain I have all these positive characteristics and many more similar positive ones (though most certainly… NOT ALWAYS)

  I DO share those values with others I encounter. No – not ALWAYS. (Heck, guess if it was always then… I’d be GOD – huh?)
  
  Why do so many of those who say they follow the good of God always get so defensive (and often ‘attack’ – name calling and much more) when I ask them why God must be ‘present’ for such good to exist?
  Heck, I have met many. many people who claim to be practicing the good of god only to see them as hateful, selfish, damaging-to-others kind of people.
  
  I know I am far from perfect. I know I sometimes hurt others. But I also know I don’t ‘hide’ behind god – acting as if god gives me some sort of right to be that way.
  
  Tell me WHY without god I am nothing.
  That is my whole point. Can not one be compassionate, caring, loving, forgiving (truly forgiving) – Could not Jesus / God have destroyed all when hanging from the cross? And what did he do?
  I do not see that type of forgiveness almost no-where in our world. Instead we dump billions into a for-profit military complex. Instead we support a profits-over-lives healthcare system. Instead we destroy the planet (god supposedly gave us) – for increased profit margins.
  
  Don’t talk to me about god’s LASTING VALUE when so many men pit themselves against their fellow man.

  Our personal, societal, national and global challenges are HUGE and require complex, detailed dialogue but apparently that is something far beyond your grasp.
  Seems you’d rather be told how great your beliefs are rather than question your weaknesses.
  Beck fills folks up with empty FEELINGS – all while he collects a huge paycheck from you all.
  If he were true to actually seeking solutions to the complex challenges we face then he would not utilize an approach that fails to honestly include those he disagrees with.
  
  He tells you the answer is Freedom and Liberty – but then tells you how much exposure (to violence) YOU should be letting your kids have.
  He tells you how govt needs to be out of our lives – then tells you how you must live the most personal aspects of your lives.
  He tells you of this great threat of economic collapse – while selling you ‘stock’ in gold. (Do you really believe if the global economic system failed owning a little gold will do you ANY good?)
  He profits – while spreading fear – and offering nothing tangible in the way of addressing our complex challenges.
  He says he has a positive message of hope – and then his media (like this site) offer nothing close to positive

  Moving on, I had a discussion with my son this morning about his relationship with God. He, at 14 years old, was able express it simply and complicity. We also discussed militant atheists who are offended by our Faith in Christ and how they attack. I am ever-grateful my son understands how to handle them as well. Bottom line is that we are confident enough in our Faith that we are not offended. We know the who ultimately has victory over all evil, fake religion and man-made doctrine. YHVH Bless.

  I’m not sure what your issue with God is, I don’t know you, but I don’t think anyone is saying a belief in God is required or mandated for everyone in order to have a functional society.A society with a strong moral core – morals “Of or pertaining to the principles of right and wrong : virtuous.” is based on God’s guidelines for us…outlined in the Bible. There is a reason He gave us the guide on how to live. Without Him we become lost. A small population of atheists are harmless, but as numbers grow they become a cancer on society. My opinion.

Consider if you will the radicalization Islamic youth. We see the babies brandishing guns, screaming in hate filled rage and ask WHY? Because that is what they are exposed to, what they are taught. Just like Hollywood and video games do to our children on a daily basis.

Our kids play out their violent training in the school halls, the playgrounds, the school bus.

We, the parents MUST retake control. To save our country, we must save our children.

  When one studies any topic – oh, lets say other religions, one is exposed to the details of such. (Heck, experts on such topics are exposed to great quantities of such yet… Do you see those folks ‘going extreme’ themselves?)
  Simple exposure is not the issue.
  A ‘nurturing’ of such ideology is also required.
  
  The opposite of exposure is censorship.
  And here we have Mr. Beck telling us what he thinks we must censor OUR / MY children from.

  I’ve had over 18 years of Christian-affiliated education. My similarly educated care-giving wife near the same. We send our son to a Catholic institution. (because the education is better – and since both of us turned out fine – we figure he’ll learn from the experience as well.)
  
  How pathetic of you to attempt such petty offensiveness.
  Does that make you feel good?
  
  I find no offense with God.
  I find offense with man who uses God to the detriment of others.
  
  I have traveled the world and understand we each hold our own spirituality – but far too often that spirituality is corrupted by men who use God for their personal gain and the manipulation of others.
  
  My key question is… Is there any ‘good’ that REQUIRES a belief in God?
  Since I believe the answer is No then why do we need God? Its fine of you want ‘him’ – but need… ???
  A non-believer can be just as good a person as any believer.
  The positive values of… Honesty, Respect, Compassion, Love, Forgiveness, etc. … They do not REQUIRE a belief in God – and I have found that far too often those values get corrupted by men who SUPPOSEDLY profess to know what God wants.
  
  But why waste my time discussing such with someone who obviously is incapable of much more than childish attempts at being offensive.

In his talk today, Glenn hits the core of human motivation and he is living proof of its validity. The link at the end of this post expands on the truth underlying Glenn’s message. I believe that the ‘Why’ deeply motivates many of us who dedicate our lives to restore the foundational roots our Country.

Very good show tonight Glenn and I’ve watched every single one since CNN. I think the reason kids, some kids go nuts and do what happened in Newtown is partly because parents get lazy and USE electronics and TV as a babysitter. I have seen this myself. I know someone who would take her 3 month old twins and put them in their little rockers and stick a video on and go back to bed while they sat there alone. This cruel behavior just got worse as they got older. It went from kids videos to horror flicks to whatever they wanted. Allot of parents are stressed out with work and lack of time to spend with their kids so they let electronics do their job. I say this is part of the Why we have kids killing kids because they have forgot how to care.

  There is no great supporter of this revolutionary news network than I. But I too am asking “why?”
  
  Now I was told that the US was headed toward the same hyperinflation experienced by the Weimar Republic from from 1921 to 1923. Several times. So I followed the recommendations and spent every penny I had buying limited edition gold by the recommended vendor. A year or two later I was low on cash, and tried to sell a few of my coins to get by. I realized at that point, that my coins were worth less than half what I paid for them. Still.
  
  I had to ask myself “why?” It taught me a lesson. Yes, the US will very soon experience the hyperinflation of the Weimar Republic, and then I’ll be sittin’ in cotton.
  
  Also, when I was told that I might, because of my beliefs, be interred in a government FEMA camp to shut me up, and prevent me expressing myself on websites like this, I was worried. So worried in fact, that I bought a couple of semi-automatic assault rifles, freeze dried foods, and ten 55 gallon barrels that I’m storing water in (and, you know, have added a little bleach to each). I’m still waiting on the FEMA hammer to fall, but when it does? I’ll be sittin’ in cotton.

Not one person has said I’m wrong but they (mostly) say they hope I’m wrong. Want to know/discuss the real problem with people and why things are not getting better? Broken families are caused by the welfare state,the collectivist government that says the father must be out of the house before they can receive money for nothing. Parents can’t punish their own kids the way they see fit because their form of punishment doesn’t conform to the way government says it should be.
Government wants to supplant the parents authority and in effect become the parent and for a very insidious reason,government wants to indoctrinate kids into the ideology of collectivism.

Have you ever been to a tea party rally, or talked to someone who actually has been to a rally? No I doubt very seriously that you have and if you did you would just start screaming at them if you perceived that the conversation was not going your way. You have the right to believe whatever the hell you want but you don’t have the right to define the narrative to suit just your purposes. I have never seen anyone at tea party rallies saying anything about race matters and neither have you because it didn’t happen.

He’s right. We’re indoctrinated from birth to not only lose the value of a human life, but actually attack those who are still attune to it. Look how conscientious objectors and anti-war activists are treated – if not with complete silence in response, then with contempt and jeers. Look how well-conditioned we are to just accept that children are murdered before they are given a chance to live. See how there is no protest to our President murdering children with drone strikes, starting more undeclared wars, and all in tune to being awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.

  Sorry, can’t do that here. There are too many weak minded people that could not handle it. I can tell you that every person already knows the “why” and I know how to uncover what is being hidden from them. Some people would freak out and might do harm to themselves so I must be extremely careful. I don’t know how to explain it in a forum like this where anyone could read it. Jesus knew what it was/is and tried to say it from the cross. “Forgive them Father for they know not what they do”. It’s what the “do” is that I found out. Almost killed me. Well, actually it did kill me in many ways. What people “do” is the “why” and it’s not found in any book. And I mean “any” book. I want to talk to Glenn about it because he might have an idea of “how” to explain the “why” to a large group of people without any one of them freaking out. Trust me…. people have freaked out and I don’t want or need to do that here.
